Patriarche Sfeir has called the Lebanese Christian Youths to get enrolled in the Lebanese army as the % of Christians is decreasing in the army.

Well we all respect the brave guys in the army, they are brave soldiers, trained well But unfortunately the Lebanese Army Organization is directed and guided by politicians.

How you can encourage a person to enter the army when he sees a Pilot get assassinated by a Lebanese/Iranian Political Party because he was flying over a Lebanese Territory but controlled by Hizbullah??

How you can encourage a person to enter the army when he sees that the Head of Operations in the Army got assassinated.( R.I.P General Francois El Hage). inno ma 7ada fi faw2 rasso khaymi…

How you can encourage a person to enter the army after what we saw in Spring 2008 where the army wasn’t taking actions to stop the clash between the people. The army decided to step aside when there is a military fight between 2 different political parties. The army gave the green light to the parties to start arming themselves since the Lebanese Army won’t protect them.

How can you encourage a person to enter the LA, when he sees that a local political party is stronger than the Army, and has thousands of rockets and control Lebanese areas.

How can you encourage a person to be in the army, when the elite of the lebanese soldiers were killed in Nahr Al Bared due to lack of Arsenal.

    Shlomo,

U’re definitely right here, but maybe this would help in certain change of policy in the Army. I said maybe because I’m not really convinced.

  • 2. hochoz | December 7th, 2008 at 4:14 pm

Good point raised by the patriarch….however, there’s no possible way of applying it to lebanon…. due to the simple fact that we have 2 armies….or let me rephrase it…a bunch of terrorists holding the evolution of this country on one side – a.k.a hezbollah – , and a whole military institution full of patriotic heroes whose will has been taken hostage by hezbies on the other…

My logic says one country…one army…

  • 3. TOO CHRISTIANS | December 7th, 2008 at 4:16 pm

I am sorry to say what a waste!! The Patriarch is calling the Christian youth to enroll? Why? So the “CHRISTIAN” army can protect the gold around their necks and the lavish cars, houses, and churches? .. When a christian family knocks the churchs doors for money to start a family or to pay for the maternity bill, they tell them that the church is poor and don’t have money… while “OTHERS” get them married and built houses for them so they can multiply, instead of buying fancy cars and fancy churches “THEY” spend the money were it is needed. Of course THEY will have an entire army ready for them today at short notice, but what we have? A single child to a single family…

  • 4. carl tabet | December 7th, 2008 at 5:08 pm

yeah well let me tell you one thing hochoz, you like your army that much dont you? did you forget how passive they were during the events of may? how they showed us that they dont care about this country unless orders are given to them? they watched HA and amal thugs kill and torture sunnis and didnt do a single thing, because they were afraid of harsh consequences.. i think they all need to grow a pair of balls, and frankly, i dont believe in this so-called army anymore.. just because they get one stupid fight like the one in nahr el bared theyre supposed to be heroes? WTFF! grow up it was just a scam so that our idiotic president would get where he is…

    what a damned country

  • 5. hochoz | December 7th, 2008 at 7:58 pm

I wasn’t referring to the nahr el bared fight… I was just making a statement… which is basically that IF we had a decent army…then we’d be proud to enlist in its ranks….what we currently have is a CASTRATED army that should force bacterias such as hezbollah to acknowledge its manhood..

  • 6. fad14 | December 7th, 2008 at 9:15 pm

I never undertood why we have the army !!!!

They don’t engage in wars, they get big salaries and retirement wages and they cost us billions and they get to show off with their suits and guns and when you need them to do the job they are paid for, where are they ?????

Look at all the previlages they get and look at the benefits we get, they are just another example of lost money, just like the ministry of Electricity,

Why are we paying a minister if he can’t get the electricity to work, shoudn’t we stop paying someone if he/she fails to do his job ?????

The list is long but thank you Shlomo, good post.

  • 7. Mickel | December 7th, 2008 at 9:50 pm

First off, I just want to note that there are many honorable men in our army who truly believe in their job and I have nothing but respect for them.

    Now,

Everyone in Lebanon taweshna bi the army this, and the army that…

Well, let’s see what the army really is:

It’s a bunch of ’soldiers’ who stand around all day doing the jobs of police officers with their checkpoints and all that.

They never fight when they have to. Nahr l Bared, as carl said, was just made so that Sleiman can be president.

Why don’t they do their job of protecting the country like finally bombing the sh*t out of 3ein l 7elwe and the scum that’s in there.

No one in Lebanon believes in this army, NOT EVEN THE ARMY ITSELF! They act all taugh and when sh*t hits the fan, byou2afo 3a janab and watch. If the army did believe in its own men, they would send them out on incidences like may 7th to take control, but they know that the soldiers’ loyalty isn’t to the army, it’s to their religion or party.

Now should Christians join the army?
    NO.

Why? So that they get blown up while standing around doing nothing? If this army was truly fighting for this country, then we could join. But we don’t need to lose more christians because the army can’t protect itself.

Sar a2alla dabit, 3endo chauffeur w 3emmelle 7alo l 2ossa kella w 3a shwe ra7 ya3moul mawkab la 2elo. It’s a waste of money for people who are not doing their job. In the US, top generals don’t get all that luxury, and they do ten times the work of Lebanese officers.

Now should LFers join the army?
    This is a difficult question.

Because on one hand, when the next war finally happens and the army splits up, we need to have soldiers on our side, just like Hizb would have half the army on its side.

On the other hand, soldiers can’t vote and we need votes right now.

This army won’t last long anyways, it’s going to split up again when the next war comes. And it’ll be every man for himself once more.

These soldiers are chocolate soldiers; they look good when everything seems cool, but they melt away when the the situation heats up.

  • 8. Che | December 7th, 2008 at 10:17 pm

I support Patriarche Sfeir’s call for the Lebanese Christians to enroll in the Army with a slight modification as follows:

I call the Lebanese Christians to enroll in the echelon of the Lebanese Forces so we regroup oursleves and finish off Hizbollah and all Aounis, both #1 enemies of Lebanon and specifically Christians.

  • 9. paul | December 7th, 2008 at 11:07 pm

The Lebanese army is a mirror image of Lebanese society and reflects the structural diseases of this society.Without a political consensus between the government and the Hezbollah, the army remains powerless.

We don´t want that young Christians dying
for political conflicts, because first we must really know wich lebanon we must defend .

as long as Lebanon has no own identity ,any defensive strategy remains pointless.

  • 10. F.A | December 8th, 2008 at 12:40 am

Guys I think you didn’t get the message from our patriarch….

The message is an inderct one to hizballa, means it is time for you guys to join the lebanese army….
If he would have said that directly to them, you know how everyone will start bullshitting, especially this thug frangieh…
He did a very clever move, so if someone from the other side wants to encourage those terrorists to join the army, at least we did also encouraged the christians…
So, he is 100% right as allways

  • 11. Doc 1559 | December 8th, 2008 at 1:29 am

I am not surprised. It may not be nice to say ” We told you You are going to be this way”. Simply and im sorry to say it : you guys value the west more than you value your own country. Ma 7adan yiz3l min al 7a2ia2 al jer7a! I am yet to hear one ouwatje saying ” I am going back to lebanon or I am staying in lebanon” , kelun ma badun yirja3o w welli bi lebnen 3m bissibo bi leil wel nhar … As the old saying goes : Tell me whom you love and I will tell you who you are! You love the west and you know the rest (i dont wanna go there)..

On the same subject regarding what the patriarche sfeir said..I think now more than ever is the time to bring back your traditional patriotic values (family values as well). With you busy life style, hysteria about the west, family are spiliting further a part. Your children and younger generations are having less bonds with not just lebanon and its army but with their extended family as well. I remember 10 yrs ago (when I had a christian girl freind) , family was the core of everthing goes around. Now days, all you wanna do is to leave lebanon to the west the same way your ancestors did during the civil war, 2lu ne7na ra7 nru7 w laman yimche al 7al mnirja3.. RA7U bala raja3 w ghayaro their family names !!! And you wonder why you’re diminishing? And you wonder why the patriarche is calling you to join the army? And we cant but help but feel sorry for such country !! Stand up, Patriarche w hizilon badanon . Don’t let them bully you with the same old excuse ” ibne ma 3inde ghayro, ibne bade safro, ibne bade 3mlo 7akim, ibne 7abib imo, ibne badu yssefir yit3mal bi AMERICA”… Otherwise, they are digging their own graves, look at the iraqi christians…

Thank you , I didnt mean to be this rough on you guys.. bass bta3rfu 2ino ana ma bi3kun 7ake willi bi albe 3la lsseneh … Prove me wrong and I will apologize..

  • 12. Doc 1559 | December 8th, 2008 at 1:34 am

Rafaat ( if you are around)

I hope you are reading .. Remember our old debate(aoun your enemy) ?? Look at # 8 , this guy che just proved my point … I told you buddy, you guys wanna 2ssim al char2iyeh char2iyten !! Never ya rafaat…

  • 13. Mickel | December 8th, 2008 at 3:05 am

    Ali

I am outside of Lebanon just like you are. And also just like you, I have not forgotten lebanon and I cetainly don’t hate it. I hate many things in it, but I do not hate it.

The problem is ,my friend, it’s ‘your people’ who make us sometimes hate Lebanon, or even be ashamed of it the way it is now.

We don’t want to live with people who scream death to America and do whatever the Ayatollah or KSA tells them to do.

We Christians don’t want to associate with you. We don’t want to be mentioned in the same sentence.
When people watch the news and see you burning places and screaming ‘Death to America’, they think that all the Lebanese are like that, and that’s what we hate.

I have to speak my mind just like you did Ali.

Why should we join the army ya Ali? So more christian young men can end up like Samer Hanna?

Hezbollah is going to have a war with Israel next summer. What’s going to happen to all those slodiers that are in the South? They’re either going to fight and die because they are ill-equipped and untrained, or they will get caught in the cross fire and also die.
That’s why we don’t join the army.
We have big taugh guys, we can use weapons, and we definitely know how to fight. The problem is the army isn’t fighting the fight that we want to fight.

I’m sorry Ali, I know you’re thinking that I’m just spewing out a lot of hatred and racism right now, but I’m not. I just have to say this.

    We love Lebanon.
We love the Lebanon that was made FOR US, that was made so we don’t end up as a miniscule faction in a larger Islamo-Arabic country, which is what Lebanon has turned into.
We loved Lebanon when it was civilized, progressive, modern…
But look at it now. It’s just another piece of sh*t third-world country who is ‘the first country to resist and the last to sign a peace treaty’.

If Lebanon goes back to the way it was long, long before, then you will see us flock to join its army and do a heck of a job defending it.

Please don’t reply with a wa3za comment. I just had to say what was on my mind.

  • 14. Doc 1559 | December 8th, 2008 at 3:25 am

    Mickel

You say : Please don’t reply with a wa3za comment. I just had to say what was on my mind.

Ok, no prb micho, and thank you for being honest. I highly respect your honesty !

One thing bass sma7le, Lebanon is : One country, one constitution, one destiny ! ;)

    Thx again..

  • 15. Strom | December 8th, 2008 at 4:11 am

    Doc

    You nailed it .

  • 16. Ali7773 | December 8th, 2008 at 6:08 am

Hezbollah supporters consists of 40% of the national army its to late to disarm them. Trying to disarm them will lead Lebanon to civil war. Counting your bullets and re arming will also lead us into another civil war as well. Its amazing how Lebanon went from the “Switzerland of the Middle East” to the “Proxy Battlefield of the Middle East”.
    RIP Lebanon…

  • 17. hochoz | December 8th, 2008 at 6:20 am

    K Doc,

One country, one constitution, one destiny, ONE ARMY….

u want democracy…..u gotta be fair….it’s either u let the army be the only side holding weapons….or there’s a worse aspect of democracy which is equality among every political party to be armed and dangerous leading to civil war…

personnally …i’d rather have a strong army

  • 18. Mickel | December 8th, 2008 at 6:46 am

    One Country.
Well let’s see, there’s half of this ONE country controlled by the government, about a third, if not more, controlled by your Hizb, there’s 4% of Lebanese territory still being occupied by Syria. And don’t get me started on Ein El Helwe ;) .

    One Constitution.
Seriously? The thing’s a doormat. It’s 7eber 3a wara2. The constitution says that we can’t elect the chief of the army to be president.

    One Destiny.
As my auto-mechanic would say: “Here’s your problem!” This is what we are fighting about Ali. Is Lebanon destined to be another gaza strip? Or can this country finally stand on its feet?

  • 19. Doc 1559 | December 9th, 2008 at 5:31 am

    hochoz

I dont mind a stronger army. I wish we can ya hochoz but naked fact reflects the opposite. Leb is not allowed to have a strong army…Ya ret ya ret …. I give thanks to our servicemen and family who care enough to sacrifice their lives for our country , but again YA RET YA RET they let us build our army!

Democracy in lebanon is a joke. There is not such thing …. I dont beleive in the lebanese democracy ! All I see is bunch of ppl trying to eleminate each others.. intikhabet is a joke as well, l muslim bissa2it al massi7e wel massi7i biss2it al muslim !!

At last and despite all the gloomy news, Lebanon remains one nation under one roof. Would the embarrasement I felt as a lebanese bcoz of our internal clashes be replaced with pride ( ya3ne may 7 la kun sari7 ma3k) ? Maybe ! Maybe not! What if HA decide to go ahead and be a LIWE2 for the lebanese army? Will I be proud? Yes, I will be and this is the way it is going to be ! Wait and see !

ps : as sayyed hassan said : na7nu la nurid an namlek haza al sila7 2ila al abbad. God bless ..

  • 20. Doc 1559 | December 9th, 2008 at 5:58 am

    Mickel

I am going to focus on this ,

    You say : One Destiny.
As my auto-mechanic would say: “Here’s your problem!” This is what we are fighting about Ali. Is Lebanon destined to be another gaza strip? Or can this country finally stand on its feet?

MICHO , I (the shiaa if you wanna say) am paying for mistakes ppl have made to achieve their dreams. We the shiaa are FIGHTING an uneven war agaisnt a monster enemy who have been destroying our lives for decades (b4 the birth of HA)… We dont wanna fight you mickel,we never did.. we dont have a prb with you, you have a prb with yourself..

A big part of the prb that no one really wants to admit his mistake. How can we solve the prb then? How can we trust you when you dont even wanna talk to me ? How wuld you trust a bank that never sent you a bank statement ?

khaline tamnak, leb wont be another gaza strip. We have what it takes to stand up and say no. We have all the alternatives as well… hala2 hayda mawdou3 kbir..

At last, leb is a gr8 country ma tkhaff lebnen we2if 3la ijreh w de3iss bi aleb ktir bilden 3rabiyeh w gharbiye as well. It is a issue that has gone far too long, but trust me ana ba2kidflak 2inu al balad ra7 yit3fa ..Hopefulness and being lebanese go hand in hand. Even now, I dont think it is that bad… chu nssit keff ken al balad last summer?? ma ka2inu fi chi.. ma ka2inu ken fi 7areb..

    Thx ..

  • 21. Mickel | December 10th, 2008 at 1:35 am

I don’t feel like going into a debate right now, so all I’m going to say is the Lebanon that we are in right now will keep going through good times, like now, then bad times, then good times, then bad times.

P.S.: Please stop calling me Micho :)

  • 22. Doc 1559 | December 10th, 2008 at 1:37 am

    Mickel

No prb bro, you have a good day .. we all busy I understand :D … yalla bala debate mitel ma badak MICKEL …

    thx

  • 23. Mickel | December 10th, 2008 at 1:49 am
