We should Understand him…

Posted by Rodge

While our friend N10452 has taken an important but justified decision to stop posting for a while, I’ve taken the opposite direction myself and finally decided to write something after a long period of absence (more than a year) from posting and commenting as well, and believe me it was nearly for the same reasons showed by N.

It’s because I am, and I’m sure we are all so disappointed (not to say disgusted) from the situation in Lebanon, mainly with the poor political performance of those who are running and taking the country (to HELL I’m afraid), those who were supposed to improve the whole situation and create a good atmosphere for the people to re-enjoy this beautiful Lebanon.

But sadly, and as N has mentioned, things are getting worse and hope is fading in seeing anything good from that staff of politicians and officials.

In addition, allow me to say that many of the comments we usually read here or elsewhere regarding the different issues or conflicts we’re suffering from, are even more disappointing, which proves that we still lacking the culture of communication, as most of these comments do not have the minimum level of logic, respect and sanity, but above all they seem missing the necessary knowledge and awareness.

You have to excuse me for this, and I don’t want anyone to feel offended, because in return, lots of comments are great and should be very well taken in consideration for including a high level of good speech.

Well, and returning to the main subject, I wanted to write a comment on what N posted, but since it was impossible to do that as he closed this option, I thought maybe I could voice my opinion here, emphasizing at the same time that I really understand what he feels deep inside, and eventhough I may not agree with everything he said, I do agree on the subject and the disappointment as a whole.

The message is that we can differ but we should not disrespect each others, we should try to give a good example of how to establish a sane Dialogue, and I think this Blog is the right and the best place for that.

How can we ask our politicians, with all their personal backgrounds and own interests, to agree on one thing or even to stop insulting each others, while we the ordinary Lebanese people who clearly want the best for our country are still unable to do so?

Let’s start with ourselves and try to engage in a constructive Dialogue. I’m not saying that we should give up on our ideas or opinions, but we have to put in mind that no one has the full truth, also nobody is fully wrong, so let’s try to see the right and wrong in each and everyone of our politicians and of us, maybe by that we can better understand what N and many others are trying to convey.

I understand what N has felt before taking this decision, and I urge everybody to understand him and to give him in return a good reason to show up again and re-post as soon as possible.

    Kezballah,
Thanks for asking, I’m fine and I think I’ll be better as soon as I feel that the Lebanese people become more mature in terms of political thinking.

As long as lebanese politicians from all sides care more about their own interests first and foremost above those of the nation (al watan) there will be no changes, and considering that this has been a chronic illness since independence, then I am affraid our chances are slim to none! One thing that we can do is either get out of the way and look for our own interest as individuals, or continue to fight for what we believe, in the hope that one day something will change, although we should realistically lower our expectations to the very minimum based on previous experience. Truly sad!

    who’s to blame?
Regional states sponsor certain parties/individuals with generous handouts to do their bidding. we have Hizbollah getting money from Iran now – does future and Ouwet get money from Saudi? I dont really know, and haven’t been following politics recently.
These regional states sponsor those who have the backing of the people, so – yes – it’s all our fault. Stop following your local za’im like a sheep and ask them to show some results – otherwise vote them out of office as quickly as possible.

wtf has berri been speaker of parliament for the last 20 years??? surely there is someone more qualified for the post who will actually do the job. why has the post of PM being occupied by Hariri for 20 years (minus a couple of years here and there?

As long as the people are not demanding accountabiility – you wont see any change. heck (and I really wanted to use the f-word here) – if I was doing a half assed job at work, and kept getting a raise and generous bonus each year – why would I try to put in any effort whatsoever???

You keep saying that our politicians are corrupt, as if corruption is unique to Lebanon or the genetic makeup of its politicians. It is not the fault of the individuals but rather a by-product of our Lebanese makeup and the fault of the society as a whole.
Any person anywhere in any position of power will seek even greater power and impunity. It is up to the people to keep politicians in check, until enough tradition of respect to the law and subservience to the common good is ingrained in the customs of the country’s individuals. In earlier societies this used to happen through revolt, in democracies through casting your vote. But to establish a system where revolt or true voting is possible you need a homogeneous society that agrees on basic principles of governance and responsibility.
This is not the case in Lebanon and as much as we hate it, things will never change. One part of the society will always obstruct change originating from the other and keep us on our never ending downward spiral to hell.

  17. THERESINIA says:

    Traffic,

The problem is not only the politicians which are corrupted…it is the blind people who follow them, trust them, and repeat after them the rubbish and the insanities they produce….!!!!

Well it’s late at nite out here in the west coast and in a couple minutes I’d prolly see the sun rising but I went through all the comments some of them were coming from the heart and some other ones it really kills me to see how some people like most Lebanese are narrow minded and selfish individuals but the sad thing we always have been and it looks like we always will be. I honestly for a long time believed in the LF and the change we strive for and the pain our country and people feel everyday and everynite but I gave up on the LF and all the corrupted aholes who are part of it! Same goes to hizballah and any other party, I don’t flying fuk about anything anymore, sad but true, I don’t see that we will ever live in harmony anymore there’s always gonna be conflicts and issues and the country will never be stable and with time Lebanon and the people of Lebanon will nor be able on sustaining life in little piece of land! I try to convice everyday my fox to sell everything we own and come and plant a seed in the west so at least we are guaranteed a decent stable life, I say this with pain but that’s the truth, when you live outside the country you are looking at the box from the outside and you can see, hear and predict where we are headed to, it doesn’t look promising at all, god bless tou all and I wish you all the best.

  21. Traffic says:

    Theresina,

This is what I’m saying exactly. Our corrupt politicians are the result of our corrupt or corruptive society.
The fact that the people can’t keep the politician in check is what is producing corrupt politicians time and time again.
And i go further and say there is no way out of this vicious cycle, because people in Leb are sheep, and they will remain so because they are too busy inter-fighting than to give any regard to the greater good.

Please stop with your plot theories…cause they are “theories” …and go and do some good to Lebanon (this is a needed reality).

  24. THERESINIA says:

    K4,

By the way: you never dared to answer my previous post which was addressed to you! (please respond without running away):

I am against all types of agents, whether they are Israeli agents, Syrian, French agents, American, saudi, Iranian, or…Zimbabeweyan agents…
HA is clearly and definitely a servant agent to Iran. Full Stop.
Your should start by having loyalty to Lebanon and to all its people whether they are black or yellow, christians or druze, tall or short,
fat or obese, one-eyed or three-eyed, with and without tails!!
    You should respect others.
You should start by respecting their rights to express different ideas than you.
You ought to respect freedom of speech in real life (other than on this blog).
    You must respect Human Rights.
    This is called DEMOCRACY.
At present what HA is doing : HE IS TAKING AWAY Democracy from Lebanon.
That is my FIRST concern: The destruction is presently coming from WITHIN (not from foreign countries)!!!

  25. k4m1 says:

would the maronite accept to seperate religion from politics?
would they accept to have a muslim or a druze as a president?
would they accept to share the power equally with the muslim shia, sunni or druze?
would they accept to cancel the secular political system that kills the middle class and and the poor and promotes rich nobles and landlords?
would they accept to share all the government wealth to restore the middle class and create educated and cultivated people who consist the back bone of a society?
would they encourage the poor to work and decrease unemployment and give people jobs based on their potential and skills and abilities rather than their religion background and identity?
would they accept to spend the government money on hospitals, schools, universities and technical institutes for all the lebanese people rather than increasing their own lands and shares in the under the table business deals like the hariri did with solidaire and sukleen and ogero?
would they build water dams and electrical stations and underground infrastructure and internet and a fine and secure communication network?
would they accept to build a railroad that connects all the regions of lebanon and a fine transportation network?
would they create a respectful social security system that ensures the health of the people?
would they offer subsidiaries to the middle class and help them get loans for small businesses and teach their children in schools and universities?
would they put their power and potential in their western connections to build a strong army with weapons that enable him to defend lebanon from israel?
would they accept to solve the pollution and garbage and chemical wastes in the most beautiful country in the world lebanon?
would they accept that everyone gets fresh drinking water in the land of water?
would they decrease the price of fuel for the people?
would they find a good solution for the rents?
woild they find a solution for the foreigners who own 60$ of lebanese land now?
you answer all that miss theresina and get back to me.
    would they
