After many posts and comments on Aoun’s visit to Syria, and because Aoun himself compared his visit with the visit of Charles De Gaulle to Germany after WW2, and described it as historical, this is why I don’t agree with him (not only on this issue but on nearly everything else).
First, why the visit to Syria is not historical, because De Gaulle made his visit to Germany after the fall of Hitler’s Regime, while the Regime of Assad (whether Hafez or Bashar: the same) is still in power with all the hurting and sufferance he caused for Lebanon, so what is Historical in this??
De Gaulle made the visit after Germany lost the war and all the German soldiers withdrew from France, while the Syrians are still in Lebanon with all their intelligence and followers. Nothing Historical.
De Gaulle visited while being victorious in war, while Aoun has nothing to do with victory, especially against the Syrians, he lost all the wars against them. Again nothing Historical.
De Gaulle went there on an a French plane, Aoun used a Syrian plane (maybe MEA refused to participate in this Farce).
De Gaulle made the visit while all France was behind him, while Aoun had only the village idiots backing him.
De Gaulle was really fighting the Germans, while Aoun was their best agent and only fought them for personal reasons.
And last but not least, because there will be no good result for Lebanon after that visit, while the French General has established good relations for the future between both countries.
Now why Aoun is not De Gaulle, because the latter went there as the French President, while Aoun will never ever dream of being president.
Because De Gaulle was a real leader who fought hard, while Aoun run away with the people’s money grabbing the first chance he had.
Because De Gaulle liberated France and threw out Hitler’s army (of course with the help of the allies), while Aoun allowed the Syrians to enter additional areas in Lebanon (eastern areas, Christians areas) by his stupidity or treason, after they have failed to do so during 15 years of war.
Because De Gaulle is a patriotic person who loved and sacrificed for his country, while Aoun is only an agent and a small soldier in Assad’s army.
Because De Gaulle lived by his principles and “sa7ebna Aoun” denied all his so called beliefs.
Because De Gaulle didn’t ask the French to apologize when he was visiting.
In my opinion, they share two little things, first they both lived in France for a certain time, and second the both were militaries, but De Gaulle turned out to be one of the best Generals in the world, while Aoun became a smaller insane lunatic politician after being a general by force.
This visit was rather Hastirical (from Aoun’s Hastiria)

BRAVO. Excellent and to the point!

  • 2. Anonymous | December 5th, 2008 at 5:48 pm

It IS historical, Rodge… Shamefully historical

  • 3. Anonymous | December 5th, 2008 at 5:50 pm

…historical doesn’t always have a positive connotation. Ex: Petain allying himself with the Nazis was historical… in a negative kind of way.
    Same applies here

You’re right about that my friend.

There are filthy and stupid people in Lebanon. Ultimately someone will emerge to represent them, this will be Aoun. That’s all about him.

We have learned a pretty good lesson in Lebanon… you can’t trust the christians!!!!
Remember guys all our wars, how many traitors we had???
If we look at the situation more deep, we see that majority of chi3as are HA, majority of druzes ishtirakieh, majority of sunnis hariri (as far as I know)….when we come to christians,OMG, a complete chaos!!!
    Through out history,kataeb attacked ahrar,marada /ouwet, Geagea/Hobeika, Aoun/Geagea…. and the list continues….
Remember my words, the coming elections , we as christians of 14th of March will loose big time because (ra7 min ba3wis bi ba3ed) and Aoun will win big time coz he has strong faithful allies…
I realy hope that this will not be the senario.
I think, the best solution will be to unite the christians of 14 march into one party…if not,we will loose.

F.A, you have a fair point divisions among march14 christians might hurt. Actually I trust Geagea and the KC and other independant chrsitians to end up agreeing for the sake of lebanon, However I don’t trust that genius amin el gemayel who might well screw things up…Dunno if anyone saw him at kalam el nass yesterday but I was pissed off as if it was wiiam wahhab being interviewed. Aside of all the content about federalism….he had many stupid reactions especially on the subject of elections where he appeared to be stubborn and has attacked strongly the non LF or Kataeb christians of march14 saying they were nothing and for example refused to define nassib lahoud as being his ally in metn…. Seems the elie marouni type of intellectuals is all what represents lebanese christians in the eyes of amin. Then even on LF he looked as if he wouldn’t make much concessions…For once marcel ghanem was useful and reminded him that 1 year ago Mr Nidal was negotiating with the syrians his return to presidency…the syrian answer at that time came with the killing of antoine ghanem…

Fuziyad… shou ostak ya man, ma hayda amine “el 3anid”… an all time Zero as Tom Friedman described him in his book “From Beirut to Jerusalem”. If you read this book and specifically the passage where he talks about amine, you’ll see who/what this guy really is. One word: ZERO

  • 12. Fuziyad | December 5th, 2008 at 10:47 pm

Anonymous, never said the contrary, I liked Pierre junior but never amin and certainly not that little idiot samy…

But between this and becoming like you and say that march14 and march8 are same crap there is still a long long way to go…

Your solution please! Gimme solutions not critsism!

    GMA’s answer for you :

    Wise man ya general.

And hey guys : As far as Aoun is concerned, most of his critics today are the same people who failed to be by his side when he tried to drive the Syrians out in 1989-1990, then spent the next 15 years making regular treks to Damascus (or even more inglorious hikes to Anjar) to receive their orders while he was exiled in Paris. To those who defend their actions during this period by arguing that his venture was suicidal and they had no choice but to play ball with Damascus, the Aounists will tell you their hero was anti-Syrian when anti-Syrian wasn’t cool, so don’t start telling him now how to pluck the strings.

    He failed to defeat Syria.
He failed to destroy the LF.
    He failed to become president.
He will fail in this upcoming election.

  • 16. Doc 1559 | December 6th, 2008 at 5:14 am

    Mickel

*He failed to defeat syria : You are wrong bcoz syria is out. He is in …. You know that hafez’s plan was to YIM7E 3WN MIN AL WUJUD. 7afez died .. Bashar rolled the red carpet few days ago ;)

*He failed to destroy the Lf : You are wrong again , the LF destroyed itself . You should never wage a war on your army. Go learn from HA.. Go learn how to bite on the wound (3d 3la juru7) till the wound is healed.

    * He failed to become president: He dropped the presidency card for the good of lebanon. He knows better.. He learned his lesson.. He is now stronger than the president sleiman himself ! Agree ?

    * He will fail in this upcoming election : Wrong again budd! He won the last election and will win the upcoming ones! 2oul ya rab!

  • 17. N10452 | December 6th, 2008 at 9:06 am

    Doc 1559,
You keep on amazing me, all the things u talk that make sense then u come out and defend Aoun like another blind follower ..

Syria is in more than ever today, it is controlling Lebanon from Syria bit by bit, something even Hafez wouldnt have dreamt of …

The LF did not wage a war against the army .. Aoun popularity was based on hating the LF and attacking it ..

He failed to be president and did not drop anything .. ma ti2na3 7alak .. he kept saying no till the last second …

As for the next elections, he knows how to do elections .. of course the filthy ta7et el tawoule way .. wou bi hemmit me3ze bil moujtama3 akeed byotla3 ma bistaghrib abadan..

  • 18. Rodge | December 6th, 2008 at 10:16 am

    Doc,
    “Gimme solutions not critsism”

    Which solutions u’re asking for?
Now we have a President and officials who are meeting with the Syrians in all the matters, so I think this is a fair solution.
    What could Aoun achieves there??
Nothing, we all know it’s a personal visit that turned out to be a show off for both Aoun and the Syrians.

Nothing will come up from this visit, and I have the right to criticize like all of you.
And if you think Aoun will bring solutions, u’re so damn wrong my friend. He never did and he will never do.

  • 19. F.A | December 6th, 2008 at 1:32 pm

    Fuziyad,

Because I don’t trust amine at all, I am afraid from the coming elections!!
And I don’t trust the others too, except DSG!
But what can he do alone, surrounded by greedy traitors…

  • 20. Silvana | December 6th, 2008 at 1:34 pm

I found this, do not know which extent it is the truth but not far fetched and that is Syria the Cradle of Christianity to our dear Mr Aoun the Former General….

Geez Doc, I guess my my other half is right (I kind of got him into visiting this blog and visits it now more than I do), you can be so full of it sometimes, but I always say to him he has excellent points ( I am finding it quite disturbing that this blog figures into our discussions but hey we are Lebanese) however I guess here you proved me wrong :-P

N is so right in saying that “You keep on amazing me, all the things u talk that make sense then u come out and defend Aoun like another blind follower ..” which is quite disappointing!

    Anyway take care.

I make sense when I have to make sense ya3ne when the situation is needed. I am not a blind follower and you know that ;) the reason I defend aoun like most ppl do , is to keep the POSITIVE SPIRITS among our youth …. remember alot of young ppl read your blog and every single person and vote matter to us !!

Take this advice from a doc ya N10452 : In the province of the mind, what one believes to be true eitheir is true or becomes true! Fehmak kfeye N

    Rodge

I dont wanna go into a deep discusion about solutions. But you as a free thinker/writer should always come out with new ideas on how to help the christians.

I am heavily relying heavily on Aoun’s visit to syria. Lets wait and see.. Ya rodge mich bakir ba3ed for you to make early judgements??

    Silvana

Tell you other side I say hello :D… I know I am full of it sometimes but there for it when im needed ;)

I love to read alot and write a little..Reading without reflecting is like eating without digesting! Remember common sense is not common in lebanon. AND I AM LEBANESE. fhimtiya ?

  • 23. Tarek | December 6th, 2008 at 6:53 pm

Umm thing is some people are really narrow minded here. Actually they are no minded let’s say. Let’s put it like this: we have an Irani/Syrian Occupation through HA and other militias. Allied with them is Aoun. That’s why Aoun SUCKS. Whether he went to syria or not doesn’t really matter. However what sucks about his visit to Syria is that he didn’t go there to ask them to help build the Lebanese state, nor he did go there to convince the Syrians to f*** off Lebanon, nor did he go there for the prisoners, nor for making Syria pressure HA to disarm, nor to ask them to stop sending terrorists to Lebanon, nor to convince them to initiate an accurate drawing of the Lebanese-Syrian border, nor to give the papers required by the UN to prove that Sheb’a farms is Lebanese, nor to ask them to stop shooting shepherds at the borders because they didn’t obey the Syrian troops, nor to ask them to pull there troops out of Lebanon as Syria still have some deep camps across the borders, and nor to disarm the military-Palestinians (A7mad Jebril & Co) camps at the Lebanese borders which are known to their loyalty to Syria. He went their to kiss ass and to say that Lebanese should apologize to Syria. Does it really make him suck more? Would he had sucked less if he didn’t went at all? Not really as he reached the maximum level of sucking way before going to Syria, except that know he’s sucking Syrian asses like there’s no tomorrow after sucking all of the Irani’s.

Whether you find that other politicians suck, well that’s not excuse for NOT seeing how much Aoun sucks. Moreover, others may have visited Syria during the occupation. Do we like it? No. Do we support it? No. But at least we knew that they were all at the mercy of the Syrians because some fag decided to make the army the only armed force (HA?? Maybe it’s now the official army since: “shu 3am ta3mil tawafit il jeish bil jnoob!!!!”).

Do the current 14march leaders means much to us? Not really, at least not me. What matters to me is Lebanon, however that’s not what matters to Aoun/HA or their followers.

Personally I expressed before, I expressed how unbelievable Aounist are. They are really Aounist, not Lebanese, just Aounist however they are so stupid that they really think that they are Lebanese. At least HA followers know that they are not Lebanese and don’t care about Lebanon.

Doc, I cannot fault you for your “I love to read alot and write a little..Reading without reflecting is like eating without digesting!” because I share that view.

However a condescending and patronising attitude does not a LEBANESE maketh :-P
