General Aoun…the sequel
Posted by othelloIn the mad unchained symphony that is Lebanon, General Michel Aoun has always managed to be the false note that reminds the listener of the foolishness of human nature.
His screw ups always ended up in splitting the Christian street. Knowingly or unknowingly, and both scenarios are equally as dangerous, he is acting like the spearhead in the war of attrition that aims at weakening Christianity in the Middle East.
In 1989, this lead to the destruction of the Christian stronghold in east Beirut that had managed to stay out of the Syrian grips. The result was fifteen years of oppression, repression and suppression of any manifestation of freedom of speech by the Christians or any demands for sovereignty and independence of Lebanon from the dictatorial grip of its neighboring country.
The Lebanese people to this day remember how his angry followers stormed Bkerki, the head quarters of the Lebanese Maronite patriarch and proceeded to insult and abuse the old man, on the account of him not supporting the general’s mad schemes.
Today, in 2006, almost seventeen years day for day after that dreadful dark moment in history, we hear him, once again, attacking the patriarch, and this time again for the same egoistical reason: the patriarch refuses to give in to Aoun’s crazy, megalomaniac flip flops. This time its about the toppling of the government… The patriarch in his wisdom saw that this was just the tip of the iceberg and that the demand for a change in government was a mask for other schemes, namely the cancellation of the International court that is to rule in the wave of assassinations that ripped the country in the last two quarters of 2005.
At this point I wish to ask the General the following:
Where are you going general? Don’t you know that whoever goes out of his clothes catches cold??? Where are your claims of representing 75% of the Christians…
Do those Christians agree with your attacks of their highest religious figure? Is this what they voted for back in 2005?
Do you not recall your allies’ reaction when Hassan Nasrallah was represented in a comedy show on TV? Did you not learn from them the importance of respecting your religious leaders?
Or has the attraction of the presidential chair become so big, and the interests of your allies so important that they are clouding your political judgement?
Men are not measured by the loudness of their voice nor by the amount of insults and criticisms they are able to dish out on public TV dear General…
Nor does rolling your eyes and accusing everyone else of being a traitor cleanse you of your wrong deeds.
Wake up general…wake up and smell the foul stench that emanates from your actions…
Wake up general for the people are fed up with your pseudo revolutionary ideas….
When you want to attack something as important and as sacred as the Patriarch, you’d better be up to that challenge…and I am sorry to inform you General, in case no one ever dared to, I am sorry to inform you that you are not up to this. You never, in your entire history and you never will be up to such a task.
Neither your past nor your present give you the right to believe you are able to undertake such moves.
I really feel sorry for you…no what the heck am I saying…I feel sorry for the people, or whatever is left of them, who still follow you blindly, for you are unworthy of the title of Leader.
Are you not aware of History? Have you never read about the fates of so called leaders who cheated their people like you are doing incessantly?
Look around you general…look at your new found allies…do you not realize they are using you? They are using your weak spots in order to help destabilize the Christian community, the only community that has posed and still poses a serious threat to their crazy schemes?
It was a cruel historical farce that brought you from the dark abyss of anonymity and imposed you on my people…a people who like the proverbial drowning man, saw in you a rescue buoy…had they known your real identity, I am sure many would have preferred to drown.
The symphony will continue to play…we had hoped that over your years in “exile” you would have learned how to play, even if in solo, a fine tune…alas it appears today that you are not even fit to hold an instrument general.
We had hoped you were an exception, it turned out alas that you are a great deception…or rather a series of deceptions…and lethal deceptions at that.
For the sake of history…for the sake of this country that has suffered enough…for the sake of the Lebanese people in general and the Christians in particular for they have paid the highest prices amongst all the Lebanese, I ask you to act like a man, a real man…
In case you don’t know how to be a real man, I will break it down for you: QUIT POLITICS…leave while you still can…history does not forgive nor forget general…quit before your actions catch up with you…go do something to atone for your sins…Lord knows they are many…
Quit and my voice is joined by the voices of those who were savagely butchered by the Syrians while you were creeping away to the safety of the French embassy on that bloody day in October.
This country is on its way to being rebuilt for the nth time and to be honest with you, you are persona non grata.
Quit I ask you to quit and let this symphony be played at last as it deserves to be played.
