I started researching the theory i posted about yesterday.

Well it definitly is not just a theory, because Iranians have been exercising for years in the Sea of Oman and strenghening their bases and naval power. I found several articles about their trainings, as well as the straits of Hormuz and their huge importance to Iran & mostly the Americans.

Iranians indeed did some maneouvers in the Sea back in 2002,

The Iranian army staged military exercises in the Sea of Oman on Tuesday to mark the anniversary of retaking of a border city during the Iran-Iraq War, the official IRNA news agency reported.
Ground, navy and air forces took part in the war games to mark the liberation of Khorramshahr in Iran’s Khuzestan Province, where fierce battles took place during the 1980-1988 war.
Destroyers, submarines, warships, gunboats, amphibious personnelcarriers were involved in the exercises, IRNA said.
The military exercise is expected to continue with navy exercises on Wednesday.

This is another article from 2006.
Iran: Naval Doctrine Stresses ‘Area Denial’

Iran’s tests of its Fajr-3 missile, torpedoes, and other types of hardware during a week of war games from March 31 to April 6 has overshadowed the military exercises themselves. But the maneuvers, which are taking place in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Sea of Oman, are significant because they highlight the role of naval power in Iran’s military doctrine.

As for the straits of Hormuz, just listen to that statement by the US Energy Information Administration.

Tehran has occasionally threatened to use mines to block the Straits of Hormuz, described by the U.S.’s Energy Information Administration as “By far the world’s most important oil choke point.” In February 2005 congressional testimony, the Defense Intelligence Agency director, Vice Admiral Lowell Jacoby, addressed this possibility by saying that Iran would rely on a “layered strategy” that uses naval, air, and some ground forces to “briefly” close the straits. Iran’s purchase of North Korean fast-attack craft and midget submarines improved this capability, he said.

Consequences of such a hit:
Not only the whole world will be affected by this hit, but also the Arab countries for the first time will have an oil crisis since they wont be able to export their barrels.
