The Iraqi High Tribunal today sentenced a combative Saddam Hussein and two other defendants to death by hanging for their part in a bloody crackdown in 1982 in the Shiite town of Dujail. The case now must be reviewed by a court of appeal.

What surprised me was that he is gonna be hanged and not shot, since this is how they execute military men usually, but he deserves being hanged, i am not for death sentences but i believe it is relative to the community this person belongs to and the mentalities of the society.

The decision was welcomed by The Iraqi government and the American administration obviously and no one can deny this sentence came at a critical time to boost Bush’s popularity in the US in the upcoming elections.

Saddam was not a military man, and never was. He never held an official rank; he did not study in a military school. The uniform was purely for the purpose of his image, and nothing else.
