In his weekly editorial, Tueni tackled the regional changes and their impact on the Lebanese parties, mainly Hezbollah and the FPM.
First of all, he clearly stated that Russia has no interest in launching another ‘cold war’ against The Americans by influencing the situation in Lebanon. Tueni said that Hezbollah should not count on Iran & Russia to support him against the Americans regionally or even locally in Lebanon.
He added that Aoun will turn out to be the biggest loser on the Christian scene, if Hezbollah was to disarm or realize he cannot go on that way and offer compromises to the 14th of march team.
“وفي “الجبهة المحدودة” هذه، أكبر المحرجين سيكون تيار الجنرال عون الذي لا يمكن ان يسوق “شعبيته” لا الى مواجهة مع مسيحيي الفريق الآخر ولا خصوصاً الى التسليم بقيام دويلة يحكمها “حزب الله” و”يواطنها” العونيون، بينما قد يؤدي “تغيّر شكل الدولة” اللبنانية الى تألّف اتحادات سياسية أكثرية، متعددة الطوائف واقرب الى الشكل اللبناني الأصيل.
Finally, he offers the wisest approach to the current crisis,
” فالمسيرة الحكيمة التي يمكن ان تختار دمشق طريقها، اذا انفتحت أمامها، هي تشجيع واشنطن (عبر التجاوب مع المبادرة البريطانية) على احياء المفاوضات مع اسرائيل لاستعادة الجولان (بدل لبنان!!!) وحل قضية شبعا بما يؤمِّن لـ”حزب الله” انتصاراً لبنانياً دسماً يكبّر لبنان ولا يصغّره، وينشر فيه السلام بدل الحرب”
