Syria comeback : Is it starting ?
Posted by N10452Yesterday, Shahhal, head of the salafist main stream, sent a warning to Assad about entering North Lebanon .. now whether he is a man of his words or not, this definitly will speed up the arming of the Salafist groups and only make things worse …
It started in Tripoli and i am afraid is gonna expand very quickly if no one does anything about it ..
Here s an excerpt of Shahall’s response.
The highest Ranking Salafi Authority in Lebanon, Dai al-Islam Shahhal, warned against an incursion by the Syrian Army into north Lebanon saying it would open “the gates of hell and lead to what is similar to Iraq and its misery.” Shahhal made the remark in an interview with the Kuwaiti newspaper al-Anbaa to be published on Thursday. Excerpts of the interview were faxed to Naharnet on Wednesday.
“The Syrian command and its allies in Lebanon are keen on driving a wedge between the Salafi movement and the Lebanese military establishment in order to drag the whole Sunni community into a conflict,” Shahhal said.

I can see syria planning to come back however I can’t see why they need so. HA along with the syrian parties are controlling all of Lebanon: Government/Army/ISF just name it. Afraid of elections? don’t think so as having the majority won’t help against HA arms as we saw in may, HA can just force anything upon everyone using its arms regardless of the house of representatives.
Unless HA is no longer good with Syria can’t see the need of a Syrian invasion.

N,
I’ve read all the interview in the newspaper, and I can say he was so moderate in what he said.
The Excerpts published were wrongly interprated.
since he didn’t say:
“it would open the gates of hell and lead to what is similar to Iraq and its misery.
He said that:
“he is prepared to send a letter to the Syrian president asking him not to take any rash step that could lead the region to the brink, and appealing him not to allow the opening of the gates of hell which could lead to a miserable situation similar to what is happening in Iraq”.
he also appeals Syrian allies in Lebanon to be honest in raising the slogan of Lebanon first.

Mr Shahal salafis amount to probably 20 teenagers and a half…we have all seen in the events in bab el tebanneh that the salafi movemnet was more a myth than anything else and that the strongest amongs them like fathi yakan boys and the tawhid are pro syrians and fought alongside the alawis.
Still I hope all the free lebanese will open the gates of hell on syrian army if they dare entering lebanon again and I sincerely hope there won’t be too many christians throwing rice at them saying the syrians are here to save us from a threat that never existed…

I doubt that Syria will re-occupy Lebanon but may enter it and leave to see the reaction. Also, it is using its muscles to intimidate the people in the North so they will vote for the March 8 group!

Syria is not afraid of the Salafis or whatever she calls sunnis in the North…Syria is scared to death from the rising power of moderate sunnis such as Hariri and the future movement who constitute a threatening role model for fellow sunnis in Syria……We should all remember that Syria entered Lebanon thirty years ago or so for fear of radical sunnis’ cease of power and not to save the Christians…as many thought…Moderate sunnis are the real threat to its corrupt regime…that is why Syria is trying to tarnish Hariri’s reputation by linking him to Al quaeda but that is just a joke…the whole world knows that Syria is a terorist state par excellence…Not only al shahal will make Syrians suffer if they dare invade but all people of teh North…MICH KIL MARRA BI TISSLAM EL JARRA…I bet Russia is behind this foolish Syrian recent move on our North borders…I bet Syria is a lot weaker than 12 years ago….we will see
