Pere Dimitri & The BG Avenue
Posted by N10452I heard about this story from reliable sources, that an orthodox priest in Achrafieh protested against naming the Avenue from Sassine till The Hekmeh school the Bashir Gemayel Avenue, since it passes by the Mar Mitr street which should stay to the Orthodox ..
I was told he threatened to burn tyres and put posters of Gebran Tueni and gathered few people and started singing religious songs ..
How dumb is this guy ?? When was Bashir for the Maronites only ?? when were Maronites different than Orthodoxes ??
If this guy tries to do any other funny move, i say report to the Orthodox high responsibles to get rid of him or just throw him in some Sukleen can along with his tyres ..
Just a quick note that this is NOT directed against Orthodoxes in anyway, this priest am sure just lost it and if it turns out to be true, he will be put aside by the proper authorities .. i wish we could hear what Moutran Awdeh would have to say to this guy ..

Can we find out what is his full name and which church he preaches in? I have never heard anyone from Achrafieh against anything about Bachir, if this is true it would be the first time!

You’re right N10452, in Lebanon even the man2ousheh you posted about can be a reason for conflict. Well you can never please everyone, those who want to live in Achrafieh have to live with Bashir’s name in our squares and our streets and our hearts and our minds, you either live with it or you have to move, sorry.
7. tareq | September 16th, 2007 at 5:32 pm
Arz, I’m not sure what you mean, if you mean Samir Geagea hates Bashir then can you please explain why you think this?

“those who want to live in Achrafieh have to live with Bashir’s name in our squares and our streets and our hearts and our minds, you either live with it or you have to move, sorry.”
I love it when pple start believing that they own the square facing their little appartment!
Tareq adde 3omrak to’borne?
I agree with Paul… This is a sensitive issue.
So ur a majority in Ashrafieh? Assuming u are…
Then I guess that gives Hezbollah the right to call the highway from Tyre to Jounieh “Autostrade el Sayed Hassin”??

N didnt u hear; orthodox, armenians, ect r no longer christians ever since the matn elections, so bashir is pretty much for the maronites. Shouldnt the decision be made by the municipalty

Guys I was against the move they took in the church.
Bass to make one things clear:
He does not hate Bachir this priest keine madfa3jeh bil ouwet.
The problem they have is apparently uno ma fiyone yssamo gheir avenue bi essem BG uno why should they always take the rights of Orthodoxs + the street is named after a saint so why do they want to change this one.
You can’t say they don’t have a point, bass akideh ma bada hal2ad! uno burn tyres! chou the street is going to be named bi essem mine! ma law ma Bachir ma kento honeh.
+ Pere Dimitri is angry at solange for refusing to have a meeting with him, apparently she told him that she is very busy those 2 days w that hiyeh ma khassa khali ychouf l baladiyeh.
Bass anyways ma bada hal2ad w mich na2essna ba3ed in2issameit between christians.

#10 Johnny, shou baddak bi 3omreh ya teslamleh, I don’t need to start believing anything, I was born and raised in Achrafieh all my life –over 35 years mni7 heyk? baddak ra2em telefoneh kamen?
You don’t need to assume we’re a majority in Achrafieh, I know we are a majority because I live there and it’s my community, do you know the concept of community Johnny? the community decides what is good for itself, that’s democracy. and FYI Johnny, highways are not part of the community, only the street and the square facing our “little” apartment is part of the community but not the highway, if the municipality agrees then they can name their streets on Sayyed Hassan’s name, there’s no harm in that.

Yih yih yih???… I am Maronite and I refuse to make any distinction between Maronites and Orthodox!! No Way in Hell… We share the same blood and live in the same places, go to the same schools and cheers each others on outings, in fact, I never really knew if my closest friends are Orthodox or Maronites or Catholics for that matter.

wow… since when Christians feud among each other??
Hey if the Orthodox want their road named after an Orthodox, I feel if the issue is serious, The Patriarch himself should offer it to his fellow Orthodox brothers.
21. Shadow | September 17th, 2007 at 8:52 am
Beleive me Orthodox in Achrafiyeh they are more LFers then Maronites and they Love Bach more then maronites. If it is correctm I doubt that he will be able to find Orthodox ready to protest with him.

“the community decides what is good for itself, that’s democracy.”
I agree, Mr. 35 year old
BUT, when you start making decisions for other communities (i.e. taking away THEIR freedom), your democratic commmunity becomes nothing more than a TRIBE. Do you know what a tribe is Mr. Tareq?
Well… I think you do now
