I would venture to ask the following questions: Is it a true democracy when a person becomes the President in an illegitimate manner while initially losing the election as was the case in 2004 in Florida (bush)? Is it a democracy when the government is free to spy on its citizens with wiretapping and other methods? Is it a democracy when if I have a daughter who wants to kill her unborn fetus and I have no say in the matter? Is a democracy invading other nations and overthrowing both legimate and illegitimate rulers and killing hundreds of thousands of innocent people? The point is that if this is the definition of democracy, I would not want anything to do with it.
Is this the democracy you guys are looking for? I guess so! This is what 7akim has been looking for !!! THE DEMOCRACY OF WAR.
Plz , for god’s sake , stop your calls of democracy b4 your end up in wizaret al dife3 again. Oh , no , this time the americans are being real about it

Ali, i struggled a lot before deciding whether i should comment on ur ridiculous posting or not!!!! What the hell do u understand about democracy? and how personal matters between ur daughter and u has to do with democracy (and btw, it’s her only decision along wz the husband; parents have absolutely no saying).
U guys, hezbollah are the one benefitting z most from z democracy. Invading and squatting the center of beirut is done under the freedom of expression; u expressing ur oppostion to z gvmnt. U going into riots n demolishing n vandalising other people’s belongings is done under democracy.
I agree on 1 thing wz u though, that with people like u, ignorant and barbaric, we should’t have any democracy.

Ali,
I thought we agreed that you should only send blank replies, did you change ur mind??
Believe me, you’ll have much respect if you do that.
The strange thing is when someone like you, living in the US, enjoying life there, earning his life there, saving his life there, grabbing all the opportunities there, building a career and a family there, living in peace there, being able to have a future for him and his family there, comes after all and criticize the American Democracy.
I agree with you that the Americans are doing lots of mistakes abroad, and i also agree with you that they are coming by force, but you should realize that this is not their fault, it is the fault of the Arab population, who lived under oppression and dictatorship for many years, or under the “anzimit al moumana3a” like Saddam before, Bashar and Najad and HA now.
What do you want Ali, a Democracy similar to the one lived in the Arab totalitarian countries and regimes? if you prefer that, why don’t you come back to live in Dahyeh or somewhere else.
You know better than me that you left Lebanon because you couldn’t stay in this situation, because you know that in spite of many changes, US is still the dream for lots to be living there.
Ur problem, all of you the 8th of March guys, is that you lie on us everyday, why??? because I know that u hate the Syrians as much as we do, because i know that you kill to go and live in the US or Europe, because you know that ur leaders are doing wrong, but you don’t say it openly.
The Sunnis lived under the Syrian boots for years, and many of us thought they enjoy their existence, but now we knew lots of things about how much they hate them. And I think you’re in the same position. So stop lying on urself first, and say the truth for once, because the truth only can make us closer to each others.

All,
I do believe in democracy, but my vision of the concept is quite different what is practiced here in America. The features of a true democracy in my view lie with the will of the people, but that should not be the only determining factor. What I mean by that is what role morality has in such a system? The will of the people should be used to elect their representatives and officials. They should have transparent access into the actions of their government and an avenue to hold these officials accountable. However, there must be some moral code that should not be just left to the whims of the people who are naturally corrupt and ignorant (like michelle).
I think you may not necessarily agree with my opinion, but I hope that you can at least understand why I have formed these opinions. I think a fair assessment of the so-called democracy in this country has met a major moral decline. Sooner or later, it will get to such a bad level, that many people of faith will leave on their own free will. It simply won’t be possible to live as a good person while being surrounded by so much moral corruption. People will one day be afraid to send their children to school in fear of what may befall them ( the college shooting ). Now you tell me guys, is this the democracy we (as lebanese ) are looking for ??? Are we asking the americans for freedom now? Beleive me (as a former policeman), WHEN IT BLEEDS IN LEBANON, IT LEEDS IN USA.
So I do believe in democracy on the individual level. I do believe all people should be free to practice their beliefs. I do believe that the people should be able to elect their representatives. I however believe that the public realm should be protected to ensure that immorality does not erode the moral structure of a nation to the point that the rationalization of the evils of the people leads to public acceptance where all things are tolerated.
Take care, may god bless labanon.

We are not lying to you, but we are far away from your views.Who defines a democracy? They say barbarism is to do what one wants, when he wants, how he wants, and this is what sanioura has been doing!!! THIS IS THE PRB YA RODGE, YOU ARE IGNORING A BIG PERCENTAGE OF THE LEBANESE PPL (not just chiaa). However, I think we in this country have a system (which many think is a democracy) which will eventually fail as so many systems have failed in the PAST. Ya, I cant stand the syrians ( you are right ) , i even got into many fights with them bs chu al 7al? They killed my uncle and tortured my dad , bs chu al 7al?? Dialogue is the only way out of this.
26. Rodge | March 5th, 2008 at 10:30 am
Ali,
I’m not asking you to go and fight the Syrians all the time like you do with the Israelis, but at least feel free to criticize them and show us that you understand why we’re attacking them.
We don’t want to fight them also, we want peace with them, but they should want the same thing, and we all know that Syria considers Lebanon as a following state. This is the main problem. What we want is to rule ourselves, not to let anyone else doing this.
Believe me that we have the same feeling towards Israel, and we do criticize them, but even though they hurt us a lot Military speaking and they killed many Lebanese among all parties, but at least they are not interfering in our internal affairs, thye don’t want to dominate us, on the contrary Syria want that.
the idea here is when you’re hurt by ur ennemy you can understand that and it’s natural, and you can hurt him back, but when you’re hurt by someone who is supposed to be ur friend and brother, here lies the big problem, and you can’t forgive because you will feel betrayed. this is our feeling towards Syria and it will always be like that as long as they are behaving the same way.
