As i posted earlier, the only way out was for the government to reconsider its decisions, and indeed, it did so by asking the army commander to make the final call on them, thereby boosting his chances of getting elected ( knowing he’ll take a moderate stand), and not coming out as political losers ..

So we can basically say the crisis is almost over ( for now) … M14 gave the army the responsability to investigate the network lines and Choucair’s removal .. and Sleiman asked Chouchair’s removal to be cancelled and the other decision taken back ..

Hezbollah polluted his image and can no longer claim his resistance status after what happened … his credibility is at its lowest. The government will have to rethink twice any decision it takes and again proved incompetence and lack of guts..

Why did FMers surrender that quickly in Beirut? Unless they anticipated HA’s move, i say they saw they had no militia to fight back and fought it politically ..

The army as usual stayed neutral and at one distance, but committed a huge mistake by allowing armed men to invade private properties but i think Sleiman guaranteed himself presidency by this move ..

Who won and who lost ?

Its a win-win situation, both teams are still where they were even though both lost credibility .. but Hezbollah’s outrageous reaction is gonna be a boost for M14 in the next elections ( mainly Christian-wise) ..

Lets hope the airport road is reopen now since tent city is apparently staying there .. and lets hope M14 prepares itself better for any new bold decision it takes ..

If the Army can’t defend christians, Druze and Sunnis, then they all should get armed and lets start the war again…

“Lets hope the airport road is reopen now…”

Yes. To allow more M14s to flee the country…

    fad14,

we have a brave army, unfortunatley there hasn’t been any single army commander, starting from michel aoun to michel sleiman, who wasn’t influenced by the presidency chair and forgot his duties towards his country and people …

I wonder when will we ever have a true lebanese general who will know how to give commands to his brave men …

This army is useless. People were killed because they relied on the army to provide security for them. The army is a partner in the murder no matter how you think of it.

Yes Tarek the army is useless, because when I need the army doesn’t look like he is there for me.

When is the army there when there is calm and safety, they stand like kings and we call them YA WATAN, give them bigger heads, but really they are a piece of shit now, I wonder after all this is settled and I was walking the street with a plastic machine gun, about 10 of them will take me and they just let these men walk the street with weapons of all sorts.

    THAT IS BULLSHIT

shame shame shame. Their is NO army in lebanon…this is not an army…these are clowns under the command of evil wafic safa.

Our bet on the legitimate armed forces failed, militias now!!!we need to make sure what happenned to the sunnies will happen to us(hizb will give it a try at one stage no doubt)

  • 8. Lebanese | May 11th, 2008 at 5:27 am

First of all N, this is not a win-win situation. this is a loss-loss situation for everyone no matter what. everyone in lebanon lost from what happened this week.
yes maybe hizballah lost politically in a way but in the end everyone lost in war.
Second of all how can u all stand against the army and be against them. ma these are alll lebanese soldiers who take orders from their leaders to do what they do. 7aram allah yi7miyom lil jeich. they have been through so much and u keep putting them down.
the only reason why the army reacted that way was bcoz of their orders, politics and the army isn’t going to stand inbetween militias to get killed while they “the militias” kill each other.
so they took a stand and waited untill they finished from each area and then took contol.
our army is the only thing that can still unite us lebanese and the way u r thinking is dividing us.
    Long Live Lebanon!
    May God Help Lebanon!

    I question your position N.
your leader declares yesterday that he cannot answer whether GMS is still a consensual president after what has happened. another 14march party declared its complete refusal of GMS as consensual president. Tell you the truth, he never was one for you guys.

It would be interesting to note that you have just opened the door back again to GMA by this move. Sticking to GMS would have cornered HA and obliged them to comply to their promise, but now, GMA is back on top of that list, especially now that Beirut…is conquered.

Sources told the Kuwaiti newspaer “Al Anba’a” today that 12 of the LA highest rank officers (Colonel and beyond) have resigned after the events. They are all Christians and Sunnis, and 3 among them are senior intelligence officers.

I think that’s say it all.
We’re living in a similar period which led to the war in 1975

The Lebanese Army always and still is useless. It is just a drain of money… We should just disolve it. It was useless to stop the palestinians and anyone else…
Save us the money, let those jurks go work and do something useful…
