Plato once said:

“One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors”.

And Nabih Berri is one of many examples of those inferiors. Not only this man has betrayed his country for more than 20 years by aligning with the Syrians, but also managed to paralyze the parliament anytime he “felt like it”.

Berri wanted to abolish political sectarianism in Lebanon for years now but now is on the move to form a committee and even made an official Press Release about it. Why now ?

Now because Berri’s old dream of turning the parliament representation into 1/3 Christian, 1/3 Shiite, 1/3 Sunnite is doable nowadays, specially with Hezbollah’s weapons around to force any political decision.

Of course Berri only remembers that point from Taef, and not just that, remembers the part he likes most.

“Abolishment of confessionalism is a fundamental national objective,” Berri told a news conference at Parliament.

It is indeed a fundamental national objective, but it comes after regaining our sovereignty, disarming all illegal militias and non-Lebanese armed groups, after establishing official diplomatic ties with our neighbors, but most importantly after educating our youth in a secular way ! And you Mr.Berri is the last person who would know about that …

Amal thugs are the most sectarian individuals out there, not to mention your own parliament army.

My only advice is that you re-read Taef and have someone explain it to you, because if your people are stupid enough to believe you, others actually use that small grey substance called bains …

Last but not least, i congratulate M14 again on choosing this scumbag as head of our parliament. You got what you deserved.

On my way to AUB, just after crossing Hard ROck Caffe, as soon as you start climbing that small road, there is a sign for AMAL on the leftside, which says something like:
“Al Katel 3adatouna, wal charaf min al allah..” something like that.. I wish someone would take a picture of that sign and post it on this website just to show who is behind the abolishment of the sectarian regime!

The first Republic was dominated by Maronites simply because it was an extension of the Mount-Lebanon Province, wich was 80% Maronite.
After 15 years of war during which muslims allied with foreigners to take power by force, and we christians allied with foreigners to prevent you from that, we find a compromise to Share power (1990). But you insisted on marginalyzing us by repression and violence. You preferred serving foreigners and giving them power in Lebanon (Syria and Iran and Saudi Arabia) to impose your hegemony on us (1990-2005).
Things changed now because we have no more illusion about your intentions. And your insistance of suppressing our constitutional gur-arantee of share of power is th elast proof of your bad intentions. You clearly want to take us the constitutional guraantee of our share of power while you are armed. We will not give up this guarantee until you prove your good intentions by renouncing to your militias and accept to live equally with the christians. Otherwise, prepare yourself to a division of the country. It is our legitimitate right of self determination. After 13 centuries of resistance and fight, we will not renounce to our freedom.
Remember our Batrak golden words: “iza khouyerna bayna al 3aish al moushtarak wal hourya, sa nakhtar al hourya”. Wad7a?

Leave Plato alone because the majority of Lebanese were engaged in thsi election and Nabih Berri was elected by the Lebanese Forces.

so the inferiors are not only the head of Amal but also the LF.

Considering that the Lebanese Christians (mawerneh to be fair) started the civil war and ultimately lost that war, yet during ta2ef Berri and jumblat and the sunnis still agreed to share the parliament 50/50 muslims and christians.
i would be just a little more grateful if i was you…but that’s just me.

  • 8. Reminder | January 14th, 2010 at 10:09 pm

Cartman shut the hell up…the palestinians started the war and the christians didnt lose alone, everyone lost… and the 50-50 was fair for both and both shoud be grateful for that and ashamed as well…. sut up!

the aoun project met its objectives. It’s the end of one chapter but the story continues to unfold. Maronites today have ambiguous support from the west at best while shiaa have clear unwavering support from Iran/Syria. Unfortunately for us now that they’re in power they aren’t willing to share. Lesson learned, ‘la raison du plus fort est toujours la meilleure’. They have more money and more power but remain largely uneducated and brain-washed.
HA managed to assassinate many of our thinkers including Gibran Tweini, samir asir, georges hawi, etc … but nonetheless we have an opportunity to continue in their foot steps and do something there. The shiaa youth in lebanon are blinded by hatred and salami ideologies HA has been shoving down their throats by force.

Berri is barking up the wrong tree. You cannot abolish political sectarianism in a society that is dominated by a sectarian system of thinking in a small nation like Lebanon where this system has been ingrained in the minds of all people for years. The best hope is a system where all sects agree to a compromise that will tone down the emphasis on sect affiliation in politics in favor of a more equitable system of representation, but where everyone’s rights are still preserved. Berri himself has said on countless occasions that without christian representation, the lebanese experience would end as we know it. I think that this issue is premature in the current political climate and needs more time to mature in the minds of the public before it can become a reality. Let us start with bringing confidence and a sense of trust among all communities first and that is what Berri and Company need to focus on at this time.

The Aoun paravent you created is artificial and will not lost. My “we” is the historic and natural christian line not only defended by the LF but mostly by the Maronite Patriarch. Don’t build on Aoun, your construction will fall the day he will not wake up from his bed.
You want to build on rocks? take into account the historic christian stand. You want to build on sands? keep on lying to yourself by believing that Aoun delirium represents the christians.
Do you really believe that suddenly, in three years, the christians no more want a state of law and prefer to live under the protection of a muslim revolutionary militia? Do you think they suddenly hate the western culture and became admirers of the oriental despots? Don’t you think that Aoun came to you just because HAriri didn’t want him? If Hariri had wanted Aoun as president in 2005, do you think Aoun would have adopted you ideological stands? hal marra mazbout ya doc wake up!

We should probably pay more attention to Ehud’s Barak threats more than what the Istaz says. The Israeli defense minister is hinting that a war may be looming during a visit to the northern border and saying that his forces may see action as early as May…I think that designating a time frame sounds like there may be something being planned…and with Netanyahu in power I would be suspicious.

You guys come after me all you want. First of all, you all need to focus and learn to understand what I wrote. To the self-proclaimed scholar, namely “Doc1559″, I said that our support from the west is ambiguous. Ambiguous means unclear or unsure. If you took the time to read and understand, you would have saved yourself this whole nonsense post of yours. Bala ta3meh.

Now Mike, Ok Mike (or should I say mikhtal),
I don’t have proof that HA assassinated M14 leaders but from the sound of this bitch it makes me wonder how much loving is in your hearts http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIL5wTVVzHI

HA would shoot and kill an army officer, claims terrorist in the camp as red line, occupies central beirut, and launches a militia war to annulate, kill, and intimidate the rest of the population. We also are all too familiar with Hassan nasrallah speech in which he claimed the christians of lebanon should be annulated.

Finally Reminder, thank you for enlighting me with your deep knowledge of the american political system. Congratulations, You split the atom.

In reality, I don’t understand what it is that makes you come after LF that hard. Aoun 5 years ago, claimed to the world you all were terrorists and rats that needed to be eliminated. Don’t you guys have principles, don’t you value or honour. In your heart, you can’t stand him but you sure can put a show to grow the monster in him and weeken the christian rank.

Doc, what is happening in yemen is an israeli attempt to divide arabs and muslims between sunnies and shiites in order to gain support for attacking iran’s reactors and try to further deepen the gap after seeing the recent improvements. saudi arabia and jordan are acting like pets who follow their masters.

We’re building on rocks, Aoun is a Lebanese Maronite with a huge Christian street behind him, facts are facts and you cannot change them…anyway, every Christian community is different,do not generalize there, some Christians like 7adertak accept the west and would like to live up to its standars regardless of the circumstances surrounding the situation, others are not, and would like to stay here where they belong, THEY ARE CALLED oriental Christians, you know better ..

You say : Do you really believe that suddenly, in three years, the christians no more want a state of law and prefer to live under the protection of a muslim revolutionary militia

answer : Says who !! Says God, maybe ? No amigo, we all want a state of law where we can practice our rights and freedom equally, the weapon issue can be solved on the table, dialogue is your only way out of it, some Christians are positive thinkers and see hezblah as OPPORTUNITIES rather than roadblocks, others like 7adertak tend to DWELL on things from the past and try their best to convince others that things are plain wrong and hezbalah is the enemy.. it is often said that life is 10 percent what happens to you and 90 percent how you react to it,… khalik 3yesh bil madeh, khalik 3m te7ke bi dawle marouniyeh 7duda mount Lebanon, mish ra7 tusal la matra7, I promise you.. We do respect your history, i dunno how to say this in english so allow me to say it in arabic : ma tjemil 3layna w ma trabi7na jmilehhh.. Lebanese Maronites are constantly placed in new situations with ppl from different backrounds and culture, and the only reason they made it trou was because of their flexibility… BE FLEXIBLE YA MAXIMUS..

one last thing, centuries ago, the Maronites had to move into high mountains to protect their ppl and ensure independence from the invadres, NOW days these moutains are not only theirs anyMORE! Therefore, It would be wise to weigh your options my friend, TIME FOR you to put the past behind you and accept the rest of the Lebanese ppl as fellow citizens…

    Intersting.
So “what is happening in yemen is an israeli attempt to divide arabs and muslims between sunnies and shiites”.
Can you explain how israelis are “dividing”? How?
    Two options:
    1)- Israelis are organizing financing and supporting the houthis zaidi rebellion. Here, the analogy between houthis and HA (ideology, organization) will make us think that israeli is indirectly doing the same with HA;
2)- Israelis are supporting the Saleh regime to fight the Houthis. How would Saleh fights them if they did not organize themselves ideologicaly and militarily? Who organized them? Iran and HA? What for? If HA is fighting israel who the Houthis are fighting in yemen?
    Houthis:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5N7BS2OMdc

    Doc

You can ask me for felxibility in politics not in faith or identity. Otherwise, it is not flexibility that you are asking me but submission. Flexibility in politics is a two ways mode. Otherwise, you are using your military force to obtain concessions not flexibility. Thats why a talked about equality. You can not talk about equality while you are armed and i am not. And it is not because i am not armed that i will be impressed by your arms. Accept it like it is. Your arms will take us to partition. You will not obtain any politicial, surely not identity, concessions from us with your arms. Accept to be equal to all lebanese.

Stop hallucinating. You can not, as a community, proclame yourself superior to the other lebanese communities and ocnsider yourself responsible of their security, and future. No one gave you mandate for that.

Nothing to agree on, you have fixed ideas based on hatred and division. I cannot help you there..But I can promise you one thing, the future is not yours bcuz your still stuck in the past…

Move on maximus, put the Maronite long gone kingdom behind you and focus more on the future..

  • 30. Maximus | January 17th, 2010 at 1:12 am

    You are using deception.
I call you to accept equality between Lebanese by renouncing to your military organization, you anwser by accusing me of “havinf fixed ideas based on hatred and division”…
I remind you that using your military capacity to impose your ideology and power on us will only lead to partition you answer by accusing me of defending the “maronite kingdom”.

Doc, start by puting your “khomeinist kingdom” behind you and focus on the Lebanese Republic in which you have to accept democracy and the state of law. Don’t bring back the “maronite kingdom”. Have the courage we had in 1990. Renounce to your miitary forces and work for a common state for all Lebanese identitites with equal status and rights.

  • 31. Mike | January 17th, 2010 at 4:58 am

Yes maximus. There is a higher unit than the mosaad which is called AL. Some people plainly refer to them as high command of the mosaad. They work directly with cia, ISI and MI6. You will not find information on it on the internet and if you do then send me the link. They even work with “enemies” in achieving a tactical goal. Mostly Al-qaida and saudi related wahabi elements. Whatever works! Mostly recently they trained the mumbai attackers and purposely let the nigerian b-o-m-b-e-r go through the israeli controlled security firm that controls schiphol airport’s security.

Some even pose as Al-qaida in afghanistan, iraq and maybe even yemen.Think about where the name came from when it was founded by the cia. They would lead both groups against the other. indirectly supporting one of the groups to create further conflict and achieving a greater tactical goal which is sunni-shiite division after seeing improvements in some cases. They already succeeded in trying to portray iran as a bigger threat than israel to the egyptians, jordanians and saudies. It’s like letting your enemy help you overpower your brother because you are jealous of him progressing.

I’m not going to get into too many details but you will be surprised with what really happens. What you hear on the news is maybe 1% of what really happens.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if khameini has ties to the new world order advocates and the cia who put him and khomeini in power on one side while putting saddam to power on the other which resulted on the purposeful and well intended iran iraq war. It’s like we will put you in power but you have to do a certain thing for us. It’s all a big game plan.

But good thing in Lebanon is we have hezbollah. Lebanon was chosen to be attacked and how well we fend off the enemy will determine how well we survive. Hopefully israel will finally become “defeated” once and for all and we can return the palestinians and go towards solving the problem.

  • 32. sniper | January 18th, 2010 at 2:45 pm

Mike, by the same measure, I believe Aoun and HA are perfect bred of Mosaad refined AL. Both poses to be good for Lebanon, yet both brought on us wars, destructions, and misery.
Both are killers, both are large scale criminals but they make you believe they’re wholly liberators. Haleluah …

  • 33. Mike | January 18th, 2010 at 9:43 pm

That’s a bit of a far fetched supposition. With my study of HassanN’s history I find it highly unlikely. Plus, you have to remember that Hezeb was created during and after the Israeli invasion of Leb by the help of the revolutionary guard and local lebanese shiite community. Israel has been attacking us and many arab countries on many occasions since 1948. The only people that could be associated indirectly to AL and the CIA would be khomeini and khameini to be frank and they wouldn’t tell anyone of lower rank if they were in the past. I am talking back in the late 50’s and 60’s and I’m sure the communication lines between the two have been cut off. They used them to replace the shah and take power after operation ajax. These operations don’t work so you can have somone in power who follows orders; they happen so you can place someone of a certain personality and attitude at the head of a country so it will be lead in a certain direction and used in the future for a certain purpose(usually bad). That includes replacing democractically elected governments with extremists or leaders with an unfriendly to the west attitude or something of that sort. Same happend with Stalin(georgian jew), Hitler(austrian jew) and Lenin(german jewish background) who lead russia and germany and in fact were of jewish background carrying out the protocols of zion and at the same time waging war between the two “enemy” states lead by the same type of head. They have this symbolism type thing of putting a jewish head of state before destroying the country or leading it into war with another in most cases. Now see Ahmadinijad who is also of jewish origin and the not so long standing criticism of fraudalent elections in iran and this ascertains khameini’s verdict of the election results. I am not sure who won but I assure you that khameini wanted ahmadinijad to win. This might seem like conspiracy but this is how they run. The only resemblance I found would relate to the Iran-Iraq war and not Hezeb and Israel. The mosaad works directly in harming the interests of Hezeb and are currently sabotaging the iranian nuclear program. Hezeb is using the situation to their advantage and at the same protecting the country from the awaited planned onslaught and expanding the shiite community’s rights and abilities in the country and the region and at the same time protecting our country. I feel they have more moral principles than any other political group and that they are the cleanest. Take May 7, 2008 aside of any personal bias; March 14 were carrying out american orders to the verbatim and got slapped hard for it. Hezeb is the new Salah Al-deen army liberating the “holy land” from the neo-cons and zionists.

  • 34. Jean | January 19th, 2010 at 7:50 am

    Doc1559,

Quick question for you …. I found it very interesting reading your debate with maximus and I tried extremely hard to keep any bias out of my judgement of it.

Firstly, I would tend to disagree with the idea you tried to present in one of your posts. You say in #26 that Maronites have to be flexible and cope with change. In a secular, progressive society this is not a big deal. But in a country built on confessionalism and sectarianism – it is a HUGE ask.

We have a lot of lebanese in the diaspora (good majority of which are christian) that are citizens, love their homeland, yet dont have the ability to vote. Some of these people cannot even return here due to fear of punishment for things that happened during the war. I personally have family in australia and canada that are simply to scared to return to Lebanon.

Now given the economic and social costs of Christian emmigration and displacement, you still ask us to adapt to it rather than assist us in getting it sorted out. We all have made Lebanon what it is and it would not be Lebanon without any one of our religious groupings. You lose one, you lose Lebanon.

More effort has been put into looking after and discussing the Palestinian cause than there has been to get the TRUE lebanese back into Lebanon.

Times do change and EVERYONE has to be dynamic enough to adapt, HA and the Palestinians as well. As much as I do not like Israel for what they have done, the sad truth is, they are not going anywhere.

Palestinians have to ADAPT to that and make do with their displacement just like we are being asked to.

Would you say that is fair?

We dont not want a country for ourselves, but we do want a country that we can call home – and to be completely honest, armed islamic groups dont do much for the christian peace of mind.

We have all seen what has happened recently to christians of Iraq and Egypt and even in Malaysia. Who is to say that it wont happen to us? The people that said that they will never use their weapons internally? The same people that called Nahr El Bared a red line? The same people that said, “the road to Tel Aviv goes through Jounieh”?

Come on Doc, our priorities should be TO THE BENEFIT AND FOR THE BENEFIT of one another.

After Abu Moussa’s latest statements on palestinian arms outside refugee camps and the ear-puncturing (not) statements issued by the Aoun\HA alliance, its wonder how you guys think that you are protecting Lebanon in turning a blind eye to foreigners carrying weapons in OUR country.
