I salute the Patriarch for his last move, He simply took the initiative after hearing both Christian sides for weeks and submitted a list to the French diplomat who delivered it to Berri & Hariri ..
I am sure he favoured one name over the other, even if indirectly, and Michel el Murr’s speech yesterday, as well as Berri’s attitude promises that we are gonna have a president elected by the 2/3 ( without a part of Aoun’s mps and Hezbollah).
Michel el Murr will go along with 6 other Mps from Aoun’s bloc, and Berri will provide the 2/3 since Hezbollah wont show up for sure …
I have a feeling this is gonna be next week’s scenario, and Ghanem & Torbey seem like the favourites.

Batrack saves us again???
Let’s hope so and Batrack is a decent guy but, sorry, he is as clueless and visionless as the rest.
He gave some cover to Lahoud after Syria got out.
He gave cover to Hezbo and Aoun with his 2/3 quorum bullshit. The 2/3 is wrong legally and, even if you believe it, unnecessary and damaging politically.
These were two HUMONGOUS mistakes.
3. anon | November 17th, 2007 at 2:58 pm
N, don’t you think the Batrak is oringinally to blame for a big part of our problem though? If he hadn’t stopped the M14 movement from dislodging Lahoud 2 yrs ago as they should have when they had the opportunity, we wouldn’t be in the awful situation we are in now.

anon,
Christians were too weak back then and we couldnt risk taking out Lahoud and giving the government full control and hariri over choosing a new president …
Weirdly enough, this move strenghened the presidency seat and even Lahoud showing how much harm he was capable of strenghened the seat as well ..

Are you serious? This is the kind of crazy talk that kept Lahoud in with all the bad consequences. Whatever the gains of keeping him, AND I DON”T SEE ANY, the cost and damage was not worth it.
Among others that was: keeping in the security apparatus that cannot stop the assassinations and the consttitutional crisis of the gvmnt before, and the prez now.

joseywales,
It is not crazy talk, it is a fact … Of course the cost & damage are not worth it … but back then christians were in no strong position to negociate on a new president and no one saw the damage Lahoud was capable of coming …
7. JoseyWales | November 17th, 2007 at 4:09 pm
no one saw the damage Lahoud was capable of coming …
Walaw ya N.
Joumblatt and others did see it coming. Anyway it’s too late now ,but that’s why I said our leaders are visionless (as was Jumby when he worked with Syria a 120%).
Be3ed Nazar means like when Amid Edde saw years of catastrophe coming the second a Syrian soldier crossed our borders in 1976.
We are not asking this much, we are just asking the current crew to look 2 months ahead and they fail.
Peace.

He is representative of all Maronites and not just christians with “blue” or “braun” eyes.

Careful when you want to judge Bkerke, you should be very knowledgeable in History, Geographics, religions, etc. It is not that simple. Remember aounist hated Bkerke because it did not back up Aoun in 1990. They were wrong also.
I also agree with “He is representative of ALL Maronites”.
Also, I agree with looking years ahead: what if chiite and sunnite gather together again in a few years and want an islamic republic? would you want the 50% to vote or the 2/3?? I know everything can change then: federalism for example; but what I meant is that we should think twice before judging a leader like the Batrak.

Batrak!
Allah yse3dou w se3dna 3ala our politicians. The Patriarc is for everybody and cannot choice a candidate from another. Kelna christians on frot of god Aounist or LFers. Nobody is more christian then another. We have to pray that Murr is not playing games with Berri.

12. Mohammad | November 18th, 2007 at 12:25 pm
Ali,
Don’t fly beyound the topic and discuss things not related to it.
Your link has nothing to do with the subject + of course Hariri HAD to leave Hizballa after he became sure that their plans are NOT LEBANESE, their goals ARE NOT LEBANESE, their orders comes from ABROAD.
You as FPMer will realise this SOON. Just wait and see.
Defend your candidate GMA as much as you can but don’t mix things together and blame hariri for NOT RELATED ISSUE.
Thanks

N,
Even if Ghattas or Abu Fa3our al Dirzi became president 2 years ago it would have been much better than 2 years of this 3ameel filth.

excuse me guys, but when did the patriarch save the situation before? did he save it when he stopped us from kicking lahoud out in 14 march?did he save the situation when he backed up aoun in the 2005 elections and telling us that the maronites have a new leader now?did we forget in 1990 when he said about aoun that(ghaimi sawda w ze7it 3an libnen)?where were he when we got beaten on 7 august?did he save the situation? don’t forget guys that the he served in syria 15 years before he became a patriarch in lebanon?who brought him?who knew him before of our leaders except the syrians and hafez el assad?watch it guys, don’t go with the flow of your emotions,at the end we r lebanese the most quick people to forget whenever we want

I am not off topic bro , this is more than related cuz BERRI AND 7ARIRI are going to discus the candidates list and then make decisions!!!!!! This is really sad to me. logically thinking, GMA should be the president without any competition. Just give me one damn candidate with more popularity than Aoun ????? Min SG walla nayla ? botrsoos li ken habibi albkon walla chu ra2yak min jib chi wa7ad min li brazil minjansso w min 7oto ra2iss ? Fi 3indak chi 2 million maroune honik , jarbo hazkon …
Thank you mohammad .

I would agree with Tarabay as well.
I have never states my candidates preference, but Tarabay sounds and seems to be the most fair to be president.
I’ve always prefered Financial Minded presidents. Lets just hope he’ll has the charisma to defend his political stances!
17. dj00099 | November 19th, 2007 at 5:38 am
Were we really able to “kick Lahoud out” and we did not?
Guys (14), if the patriarch served the maronite church in Syria, it doesn’t mean anything. And i do not think all his assistants also “served in Syria”. If everybody in this country is that bad, then maybe it doesn’t deserve to exist. But I do not agree with that point of view. I think that our religeous leaders still know more about democracy than our political leaders. And when you think Batrak, you should think many other assistants with him. It is not like when you say M Aoun or Dr S Geagea when you really mean one person, one opinion.
18. Mohammad | November 19th, 2007 at 1:55 pm
Ali,
Look to your comment #15, you are defending your candidate. I respect every single word you said even if i don’t agree with them. I have no problem in your comment #15. Its your opinion and I wish you the best of luck.
However, comment #11, gives you nothing. attacking Hariri will never make GMA reach the castle. this was my main concern.
Defend your candidate according to what he has and good luck.
Thanks bro.
