Turkey wants to defend its secular constitution and keeps its chances open to integrate the European Union and the last decision taken surely will help its case.

“It is a historic ruling… It has demonstrated that secularism is Turkey’s state ideology,” veteran politician and jurist Husamettin Cindoruk said.

It is quite astonishing how some parties want to ruin the great achievements of Ataturk who made of Turkey what it is today, a strong & secular state distinguished on all levels from all other Islamic countries in the region.

I truly hope the army will remain in power and keep abolishing any tries to change the constitution.

wearing veils doesn’t change the fact tht turkey is a secular state! ou on the contrary, when you don’t allow any freedon in religion this means you are bringing the issue of religious representation up. it shouldn’t matter whether women are veiled or not, and it most certainly shouldnt be banned.

Well that’s not secularism. All secular countries around the world allow for veils. there is a difference between allowing veils and forcing them like other Islamist regimes.

    this is opression:

women should not be forced to wear veil, but they should have the right to do so if they choose that..

Someone remind Turkey: Islamic Revolution in Iran occured shortly after practicing Islam was opressed by the SHAH REGIME…and wearing veil was forbidden!
