A statement from Saniora’s office said he “had announced more than once that Lebanon would be the last Arab country to sign peace with Israel.”

I want to understand whats with that cliche about being the last ones to sign peace with Israel? How is Israel different than Syria or Iran ? Who harmed us more ? Who is our biggest threat ?

But i will suppose we dont want to sign peace, cant we dialogue with Israel ? Do we have to reject Israeli’s call that fast ?

Let us be even more honest here, Sanioura was working with the Bush administration during the Israeli war and Hezbollah is aware of that, and US was working with Israel, cant we accept dialogue talks sponsored by the US and EU for example ?

We will never get anywhere if we keep on dealing with politics that way, let us be pragmatic and objective once and for all.

“The 2002 Saudi peace initiative said all Arab countries would recognize Israel and sign a peace deal if it withdrew from land captured during the 1967 Arabi-Israeli war.”

Why dont u listen now to KSA Mr.Sanioura ?

N10452, you are more aware than anyone else on how I would love peace with our neighboring countries but I think Saniora was right. Not like this, not now.

If Saniora accepted the call, it would widen the division in the Lebanese streets while what we want to do right now is to join them.

I believe peace will come… and probably soon, but not like this.

I think Olmerts entire speech was to widen our division… he needs that.

I think Qatar will soon write up peace with Israel and other nations will be quick to follow, inclduing Syria.. but that has nothing to do with us. Lets focus internally shway.

Also, how can you make peace with a country that still occupies you?

Now we see the real face of the Lebaneses…the poor people that just want peace and live in quite and doesn’t understand why israel atacked them, now reject the peace.
I reads for long time Lebaneses blogers who said how israel is a facist country, and how extremely right it is.
but now when we offer you peace you prefer to be with your hizballa friends.
you prefer to fight on shaba farms and to kill a lot of people in both side for what? samir kuntar? the syrian shaba farms?
ok I accept this, but stop show yourself to the world like a freedom fighters and liberal country, and stop call israel facist and nazis cause now we see who is the one that want wars.
you prefer respect on life and this is sad that people identify with you like me and my israeli friend did.
now we see your real face.
my english is bad I know.

We are wasting our time. While Syria and other Arab countries and even the Hamas and PA are undertaking secret talks with Israel, we the Lebanese are maintaining our stupid stance. The last one to sign a peace treaty. Fine, but why not talk? After all we are already talking with the Armistice agreement. We can still talk and leave the peace treaty for the future. Or that will be too much to our “arab” feelings….

    Ram,
I would have agreed it is not the right time, but after dealing with the US during the war and refusing to take responsability for the war Hebzollah started, it would be more than normal to start talking about peace talks with Israel.

We need to break this taboo once and for all.
As for Israel occupying us, well we are at peace with Syria arent we ?
Israel is not occupying us, there are certain territories being taken of within the UN 1701 resolution.

    N10452,
It is not a matter of taboo. It is a matter of our internal security.. Olmerts calls was not for peace, it was a call for division in Lebanon.
Israel has barely implemted any of the UN resolutions. How do you call for peace with them when they won’t even implement UN resolutions, which you seem to believe in so much?

  • 6. fadibou | October 19th, 2006 at 12:28 am

I have to agree with Rampurple, HA is waiting for a good enough reason to widen the division.
Seniora is a brave man and works more than he speaks, I would wait and see what happens next rather than what he says next.

    Ram,
I did not say that we go and sign peace, but i dont like this attitude towards Israel and i dont understand it.

Why cant we say ? Now isnt the right time to discuss such issues ? Why did Sanioura state that we ll be the last country to sign peace with Israel ?

As for the UN resolutions, Israel is applying the 1701 resolution since its suits her, and the US is supporting its implementation, and what differs this time is that you have UNIFIL troops in Lebanon making sure the resolution is respected and this is good for both Lebanon & Israel.

Israel is only concerned about its internal security and Hezbollah is the only threat for her in Lebanon. Once you disarm it, i believe we wont even have to go to the UN anymore to solve our issues.

Added to that, when Assad calls for dialogue and invites Lebanon to talk, isnt that also a call to divide ? How come Sanioura states that he is ready to visit Syria within certain conditions ?

  • 8. rampurple | October 20th, 2006 at 12:14 pm

How is Israel applying the 1701 resolution?
Pull out of Lebanon? Fine, I understand the Shebaa Farm issue but what about Ghajar? Therefore, Israel has not pulled out entirely from Lebanon therefore disrespecting the Blue Line that the resolution called for.

Israel continues flying over Lebanon which disrespects the resolution.

Israel still refuses to hand in the mine maps.

Both Israel and Lebanon have not exchanged prisoners.

N10452, all of the above have not been done, so how can you say that israel has been applying the 1701 resolution when all it really did is participate in the ceasefire and “almost” pullout.

Like fadibou said, Saniora acts more than he talks… so let’s wait and see.

man cause simply sanioura is another stupid suni rassist and can not accept jews ….

  • 10. Haririst.. | October 26th, 2006 at 11:51 pm

    Ramy Kozaily
Well I don’t think that was a nice post from you, as I dont know how it was accepted to be posted.
Moreover, it shows how stupid and racist you are for being such a childish jerk commenting on something that you dont know about. Go find something else to comment about. What sanioura did was correct and made us win diplomatically infront of everybodies eyes.
The best sollution is you go gather some friends of yours from your age and start playing “crazy 8″…i guess its too much for ur thinking capacity also..loool
