Who won the war?
Posted by N10452UN Resolution 1701 was voted yesterday by all members of the security council therefore putting an end to the Israeli-Hezbollah war and paving the way for UN Troops deployement in the South.
One thing is for sure, Lebanon lost but Hezbollah is the biggest loser.
Hezbollah accepted the unconditional Lebanese army deployment, therefore putting an end to his military role, and since his politics depend 99 % on his weapons, he put an end to his regional political role.
Iran and Syria were unable of influencing the decisions taken, Syria was ‘kicked’ out of the Arab league meeting in Beirut and Iran received a warning from the UN and a deadline for stoppping all nuclear activity.
Hezbollah claimed to have started the war to free the Lebanese prisoners in Israel. The UN resolution voted did not mention one word about the prisoners. the Israeli prisoners will be naturally handed to the Lebanese government since Hezbollah will be disarmed and i dont think our government is as reckless as Hezbollah to not give away the soldiers.
Both Israel and Lebanon won equally i believe, Israel by wiping out Hezbollah and giving a clear message to all terrorist groups that it ll attack anyone threatening her security and her people, whether the whole world wants it or not.
Added to that, the resolution asks Lebanon “to deploy their forces together throughout the South and calls upon the government of Israel, as that deployment begins, to withdraw all of its forces from southern Lebanon in parallel; “ which means Israel will keep on monitoring the South and will not withdraw until the Lebanese army completes its deployment, and so if Hezbollah tries something funny during this period, it ll respond without anyone telling her to stop.
Lebanon got rid of the last armed militia in his country and the government proved to be worthy handling crisis periods. We gained world wide support and put ourselves on the right track. Its true we endured major economical and human losses but the after-war period if handled properly will make Lebanon get back on its feet within 3 to 5 years time if not less.
May all those who died rest in peace and lets hope this will be the last war we have .
Regards,

I think you are looking at this in a very positive way. Hopefully this is the last war we see between your two countries.
Do you think Hezbollah is really finished. I am hearing they will now make a run for more political power. Do you think they have a chance here.

Dude,
Whilst there are so many problems in the nistory of the relationship between the Christians and the Muslims in Lebanon…do you really think that Israel is a closer ally/friend to the Christians than Lebanese Muslims?
Dude, whatever happened to the Israeli backed forces that massacred innocent Lebanese people
Also, dont forget that tourism which will hopefully return to Lebanon, is based on Muslim Arab coming in their thousands…
With an Israeli-type settlement or relationship as you mentioned in other posts — this would dissappear.

I hope that this will be the start of a better future for Lebanon–and peace between Israel and Lebanon. Thank you for your positive post. My daughter is an Israeli, and she talks of peace between the two countries and has the greatest respect for the Lebanese people. This was a conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, and the country of Lebanon was caught in the middle (unfortunately). I hope that peace and prosperity will soon come to the good people in Lebanon. Shalom, lynne from Texas

“he UN resolution voted did not mention one word about the prisoners. ”
Yes it does.
“PP4: Mindful of the sensitivity of the issue of prisoners and encouraging the efforts aimed at urgently settling the issue of the Lebanese prisoners detained in Israel,”
True, it calls for the “unconditional release” of the Israeli soldiers and does not equate the 2 issues but it does mention the prisoners.

masterblaster,
Note that most of the Arab countries have under the table peace-agreements with Israel and so that wont make any difference if Lebanon signs a peace-treaty.
Lynne,
Thank you for ur support, lets hope Lebanon starts prospering like it deserves to.
Lola,
I feared that this might extend to a regional war, but its not gonna happen.
Jane,
Txs for the correction, i must have missed it.

not a peace treaty - i was referring to a previous post that was kind of regretful re: shaykh jamayel and his fingers up to Israel.

( excuse me for my english: i’m a french speeker).i thin’k that , israeli soldiers will not be resealed until lebanese prisonners get their freedom. i don’t think that hizbollah will disarm. hizbollah is well armed than lebanon’s army. they aren’t able to order anything to Nasrallah. and as long as lebanon’s army isn’t powerful enough,i think lebanese will ask protection from hizbollah . and israeli government is finally oblige to release lebanese prisonners.
