Feb 14 commemoration
Posted by N10452(Picture from nowlebanon.com)

For the 5th year in a row, March 14 forces calls on Lebanese to massively participate in commemorating Hariri’s assassination in Martyrs Square, Beirut.
To be honest, i think those massive demonstrations should be stopped once and for all and turned into an exclusive event similar to what is being done for Gebran Tueni.
The past few years have proven that only elections can judge who’s the majority and who’s not. March14 parties won the 2009 elections and have nothing to prove. Added to that, Jumblatt’s latest positions will only influence negatively on the event, whether he attends or not.
On a final note, February 14 is a sad event while March 14 is the day that marked the birth of the Cedars Revolution. This is the one we should be celebrating massively while the other should be mourned discretly.

You are so right! What is the purpose of dragging people to downtown? A commemoration in Biel would serve the purpose! It seems LF are pushing for particiaption to support the FM and Saad Hariri. In real terms; who cares? We all have heard the same speaches over and over again! Cover up; it’s soggy!!!

good post, good suggestions.
3. Darwish | February 3rd, 2010 at 7:21 pm
Your last sentence above rings true. While Hariri’s murder opened the way to the cedar revolution, it is the revolution’s principles and objectives that we should continue to demonstrate for as a nation as we have lost so much momentum since.
4. Maximus | February 3rd, 2010 at 7:57 pm
I think what guided to organization of a massive rally on feb 14 is more the political agenda than the symbolic of the day.
Syria want to reduce Hariri to the level his father had: a mini wizir isolated in his own community whose power is limited to managing the debt and facilitating credits and public relation on arab and western levels for the syrian regime. Since he took office, they are working on reducing his political assets: ending his alliance with the christians (LF and 14M), re-taking control of the sunni religious authority (change the Mufti) and making hi lose his street support and his capacity of popular mobilization. Hariri II would be transformed to a Hariri I. Thats why Syrians did all they can to not see a massive rally organized. And because the absence of Jounblatt revealed insufficient to make Hariri and Geagea change their mind, they are now trying to push Berri into the rally to sabotate it from inside. If the Syrians suceeded in isolating Hariri, they will attack the LF and free christians the same as in 1994.

You have a point Maximus, but I think its time Hariri proves he is the right person as a pm and its time for him to show his commitment to LF and Kataeb and M14.
6. Observer | February 3rd, 2010 at 9:13 pm
Maximus,
You must be really saying this in jest! Is this the only way Hariri Jr. can prove his statesman’s qualities? He is the PM; correct? If bringing sheeple is a proof of power; then all hope is lost! Remember that Assad and Saddam could regularly provide us with parades of people and win elections with 99.9% of the vote.Communists were masters of parades. Did that reflect popular support?
Hariri or DSG can prove their worth or exhibit their courage and power by taking strong stances and actions; NOT by parading regular people like sheep.

M14 has to prove they are the right choice if not politically then economically.
We need electricity 24 hrs per day
We need cleaner streets with no more garbage islands off the coast
We need less quarries.
We need cleaner airport road.
We need faster Internet and better mobile networks.
We need better road works system
We need cleaner water.
We need people to go back to their homes in Al Shouf.
We want to see a government, not a parade.
We need a government to Parade its achievements….

Lets hope Mr. Wi2m Waheb participates this year !! clap clap for wahab..
The only victim is Hariri the father, we all know the truth, we all know who killed PM.Hariri… Bottom line is this : the truth will be covered for international reasons and M14 street will continue to preach the empty speech of principles and sawret al arez !
Yalla i can’t wait till 2/14/10, fi truth bil da2, It will be a good tv show on sunday morning..
wel balad mashi !!
9. Fuziyad | February 4th, 2010 at 2:18 pm
One of the purposes of that demo is also to put pressure on joumblatt. Initially he didn’t want to participate but as the demo was called he knew most of his people would hit the streets same way the day for the last couple fo years he thus got forced to participate, that alone is makes this demo an important one…

Would those criminals dare do the same with a 16 year Hezbollah member?

14. Darwish | February 4th, 2010 at 10:45 pm
Ya Paul, Sourya will never launch a war on Israel, it is not an option. Lieberman is just sending a shot across Bashar’s bow just to rattle him a bit, while Netahyahu strikes a conciliatory tone, inviting Assad to the negotiating table…it’s just a political game, called the carrot and the stick. Israel will not take Assad down until it is forced, and Assad is not dumb enough to be dragged into a losing battle either.
15. Maximus | February 4th, 2010 at 11:05 pm
The last think Syria wants is to be dragged into a war with Israel. The destruction it will suffer will fragilize the regime capacity to impose itself on the Syrians. Israel knows it well. That whu Lieberman said “you wil lose the war and power”.
But this not what Iran want. If US or Israel or both attack Iran, the mollah regime want all their “allies” to take part to the battle…The syrian regime is trying to escape this scenario by offering a deal to the US and Israel. And the last are asking for a down payment.
Awlak Mabhouh is another Moghnyeh sold by the Syrians?
16. paul | February 4th, 2010 at 11:13 pm
ok Darwish we know that syria regime is full of cowards but what if the usa launched a war against iran.i think that syria can’t stay unconcerned.
17. Observer | February 4th, 2010 at 11:16 pm
Direct quotes from Bashar Assad…
The civil war in Lebanon could start in days; it does not take weeks or months; it could start just like this. One cannot feel assured about anything in Lebanon unless they change the whole system.
http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/newsdesk/2010/02/direct-quotes-bashar-assad.html
Where there is smoke; there is fire!! There will definitely be a conflict in the next year and Lebanon will be doomed! Iran’s nuke problem is not going away!!
18. Observer | February 5th, 2010 at 12:34 am
Syria is trying to adjust its posture in the case of a bombing of Iran and possible change of regime; that might not be friendly to Syria. Syria then could negotiate neutralizing HA in exchange of its official comeback. This will be blessed by Israel and USA alike.
In the meantime SHN had some veiled threats about a civil war (coinciding with Bashar’s utterance) in his speech.

Who killed Hariri? i don’t know.
Amine
Are you going to participate this year in 14 Feb?
Paul
I would say Syria is more strong, israel will lose all its planes when flying over Syria in seconds, byifa3o min el di7k.
20. Darwish | February 5th, 2010 at 6:31 am
Paul #16, If the US launches an attack on Iran, Syria will do its best to stay out of it as it does not have the ability to fight back against US, besides attacking Israel at that point makes no sense either for Syria. However, should Israel attack Iran and Hizb decides to retaliate, then nothing will be guaranteed, as Israel may decide to challenge Syria directly by bombing supply routes and ammunition depots inside their territory..that could have an effect although, even then as we have seen with the supposed nuclear plant that was bombed by Israeli jets deep in Syrian territory last year, the syrians raised hell about it, but did nothing in the end!

Elie.F
it doesnt take a genius to figure that out, it was a collaboration deal between the Israeli mossad and al Qaeda extremists in Lebanon… ask yourself ya elie, does it take 6 yr to investigate hariri’s death ?????
Abuse of political and international power by Israel led to Judges resignations, nothing more nothing less !!
These are the ”what so called al qaed-a fighters” , Im sure we have alot of them in Lebanon, EXPOSEDDD :

One last question :
Nezil 3la DT bi 14 al chaher ?? Honest answer please ..
22. Fuziyad | February 5th, 2010 at 2:47 pm
ya doc the genius, if it was israel and mossad who were killing why did they stop doing so after doha? any idea?
23. Elie.F | February 5th, 2010 at 3:01 pm
Doc,
We have different point of views about the death of Hariri, Do you think all the assassinations that hapened after the death of Hariri are related to each other?
As for the participation, i say it loud on the highest roof top that i am going to participate , if not for the leaders, sure for the principles of the Cedars Revolution.
What about you, are you going to be in 8 March? honest answer please.
24. avi | February 5th, 2010 at 8:16 pm
Darwish don’t forget Assad to remain in power needs to stay in a state of war with Israel to please the Iranian axis that he is part of….And Israel whatever Lieberman sais needs Assad to remain in power because they are afraid of worse than him.
25. fad14 | February 5th, 2010 at 10:48 pm
To Doc:
If Israel Killed Hariri, why did Ali El Hajj, remove the cars from the explosion scene in less than 24 hrs ?
Why did they reduce his convoy before they killed him ?
Why did they oppose the international investigation from the beginning ?
Why did they kill March 14 politicians only ?
Was Israel part of the Doha Accord ?

Maybe he thought that syrian intelligence did it so he covered up since he would be indirectly involved.
But….the bottom line in the investigation; it was the mosaad and cia. Hands down.
Especially the assassinations that came after it.

28. Observer | February 6th, 2010 at 2:57 pm
Mike,
It seems either you were involved in these assassinations or have a direct insider information. I would like to see the trail of your factual evidence!
29. Reminder | February 6th, 2010 at 3:37 pm
its neither syria nor usa or israe! its clear who did it! it took place on February 14 valentine’s day!
it was his wife! she found out that he was cheating on her and decided to kill him on Valentine’s day!
George Hawi was killed by Mc Carthy’s men! because he was communist! They thought that the cold war wasn’t over and the neo Nazis still blamed the communists for losing WW2 so they joined hands with the US agents to kill george hawi!

Fuziyad
Backed by the Saudis, Israel was an indirect player on the doha table. b4 the agreement Israel and USA thought M14 armed forces were strong enough to stand against hezbalah in case of an eruption of sectarian conflict, they lost the gamble and agreed to doha after the collapse of beirut and jabal Lebnen in less than 48 hours, hundreds of hariri fighters were sent to beirut bas ma toi3 minun chi.. Israel and USA have done it in Iraq, Pakistan, Palestine and many other countries, it worked there but failed in Lebanon. watch my video on 21, these are the ppl im talking about.
One question: WHY DID USA AND KSA praise the doha agreement ??
here is the statement : The United States welcomes the agreement reached by Lebanese leaders in Doha, Qatar. We view this agreement as a positive step towards resolving the current crisis by electing a President, forming a new government, and addressing Lebanon’s electoral law, consistent with the Arab League initiative….
it was the same old plan fuziyad bas ma toli3 minun chi..
Elie
you say : Do you think all the assassinations that hapened after the death of Hariri are related to each other?
We have to wait and see, so far, ALLLLLL suspects are linked to fata7 al islam !!!! min hineh fate7 al islem ya elie ?? a saudi israeli combo ??
as for your second question , no i do not attend political rallies.
fad14 at 25
the realease of the 4 general is a good answer for all your questions. The release of the four officers constitutes a clear condemnation of the authorities that carried it out. The reasoning of vengeance does not bring truth or achieve justice (ha)..

Pew Research Center survey
Published February 4, 2010
- Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah receives less positive reviews. Only 37% of Lebanese overall express confidence in Nasrallah; however, the country’s Shia community shows almost unanimous confidence in him (97%).
- As with many issues in Lebanon, views of Hezbollah are sharply divided along religious lines: nearly all of the country’s Shia Muslims (97%) express a positive opinion of the organization, while only 18% of Christians and 2% of Sunni Muslims feel this way.
