guys with respect to all ur views but i guess no one has really presented the just opinion for tripoli...but like tripoli like batroun, like kaslik, like saida, nothing is like beirut.i am from beirut and lived for one year in tripoli.tripoli is a wonderful city.it has alcohol in some pubs(altho no nights) and usual restaurants in "hi-life" areas.as to girls i always find girls and pretty ones, maybe not half naked due to the traditions of this city.plus the majority of the youth in tripoli are well educated men and women graduating from LAU,AUB,UOB and other respectful universities and schools.i was actually offended by "Bachi 7ay fina" when he related fa2ir(poverty) to praying on friday..man go get a life.one last thing, as any city or district around the world it is normal to find "poor" and"rich" regions and each has it's characteristics. Guys..please drop the religious thought because it is our manners which control us not our religions regardless of our spiritual conformations.. :)

u guys r so stupid for arguing over something like this. each city in any country is known for different things.
i live in canada and every city is different for something else. don't put religon is this. i went to school for one year in tripoli and it is a nice city, not as lively as beirut and jouneah but it's nice to walk around, go shopping, have luch or supper and cruise around.
every city has it's own personality wherever u go in this world. u lebanese have to stop putting this religous and mafia type things betweeen each other or we will nevre get anywhere to have a peaceful lebanon.
please take my word, my opinion, i love lebanon and the lebanese and everything to do with lebanon and i always follow politics but this is not the way for us to keep going against each other for stupid reasons.
we need to make a true lebanon, a LEBANESE LEBANON for all of us.
I have lots to say and discuss. i don't often visit this website as i don't have much time but i would like to always keepn in touch with people like you. so my email is aandary@hotmail.com. please feel free to add me to msn or email me to keep in touch.
i like to have many lebanese friends as possible as i love lebanon :)

comment 10:
The regions where there are some Christians are the ones prosperous only ..

that's exactly what you're saying.
since you know kasslik, just take a ride to residence ja3ja3 and check the activity around it. i really dont wanna get into an argument about gay people but i just didnt like you calling tripolis Gay capital of lebanon.
Hell, just a couple days ago i was getting out of the uni and a guy walking in front of me came up to another one and kissed him on the mouth, what do you call that "Brotherly love".
Anywaz you really need to reconsider this article

hi N,

first of all, let me say that i really love tripoli and only wish it could be let free to develop as its majority sees fit... the most important observation in your post was this:

"First of all, you cannot possibly find any pub, night club or whatsoever .. no one DARES to open such a thing because they might get bombed or god knows what"

a friend of mine from tripoli told me about how a few years ago someone did open a pub there... it was very successful for a few days but within the FIRST WEEK it got bombed and the owner just decided to shut down... wasn't worth it.

it's not about islamic culture -- you look at islamic cities like cairo or amman or damascus, they all have a few pubs and clubs. the majority of tripoli residents, muslim or christian, just want to live in an open place... if they don't drink, they don't have to go somewhere that serves alcohol but they respect giving people the choice. maybe they don't want gemmayze in tripoli but a few pubs... almost no one would object.

the problem is the strong minority presence of fanatics, fateh al islam-style. they scare everyone away from the free lifestyle. my friend told me, any western chain -- doesn't matter if they serve alcohol -- knows when they open they will probably be bombed at least once. it's a risk they take.

this is an absolutely shameful state of affairs, and for the sake of all lebanon more should be done to combat it. it's not right that our brothers and sisters in the north have to live in fear of these motherf***ers.

Darko,
What you concluded is completly absurd ... i am not saying christians areas are better or whatever ... i didnt intend to turn it into a religious manner here .. Most of my sunnite friends found Tripoli and all its surroundings boring and go to Batroun or Beirut to have fun ..

All i am saying is that whenever you have more Christians living around and less Muslim fanatics, you will definitly find more 'fun' places to hang out at ..

I am still not sure how you came up with such a lame conclusion ..

As for Kaslik, i never saw gays walking around there .. if u are talking about girly dressed guys, those are not gays :-)

I never saw 2 guys holding hands in Kaslik and i know this place by heart ..

But i guess u made ur intentions clear, u just wrote this article to say that christians areas are way better then muslim ones, witch to some extente is true but not with the scale that u use(alcool\pubs) its far more deep then that
