I posted earlier yesterday that the Zahle incident was out of personal and not political reasons. Just to clarify one thing, personal does not mean the man had personal issues with those he killed, since he apparently was shooting randomly, but that the fight was initiated after an exchange of insult and curses between the killer and Kataeb supporters.
Joseph Zouki is a thug and a criminal and is very well known in Zahle. From what i heard, he killed his 19 year old cousin in a personal fight long time ago, shot him straight in the head. Later on he commited a crime in 1993 and was jailed for 12 years before being released.
Zahle’s sons are divided between Skaff supporters and 14March supporters and the situation is tense since ever between the two.
Even though Kataeb members are free to celebrate their new office, they were supposed to be more careful and take further precautions and alert the army.
I am sure they asked the army to be present during the ceremony and they were there, but in insufficient numbers and badly spread. They should have surrounded the area and isolated the region until the event is over, and they should AT LEAST waited till everyone left to leave the place, not after Sami Gemayel and few Kataeb officials leave.
There is a huge responsability here on the security forces and their laziness and major incompetence, and i have addressed on tons of occasions the major incompetence and infiltrations found in the army and the ISF.
How to react to this event ?
Sami Gemayel reacted wrongly in my opinion, what is the point of adding more fuel to the fire ??
What is the point of showing off and stretching our muscles ?? We are the biggest losers if war erupts ! we Christians only !!
As Sheikh Amine bravely reacted when his son Pierre was killed, Sami should have calmed everyone and let justice prevail.
Second of all, it should not be turned political because it is not. Its the law of the strongest in some regions in Lebanon and everyone knows it, i am sorry to say that bass fi 3alam rassoun tanke wou bi2awsso 2abel ma ye7ko !
Kataeb & all M14 parties should stay away from such thugish environments and discipline their supporters at all time.
It is shameful to see brave Kataeb members die this way, and it is more shameful to see politicians scoring points on their behalf !
I find it hard to believe that all this was planned .. and i find it ridiculous that M14 leaders are reacting that way !
We have a president to elect, we have deadlines and all of a sudden, such an incident occurs and we all lose our temper and get on the offensive !
If you really want justice to prevail, you elect a president, clean the security forces and track the criminals !
The masses are allowed to react instinctively, but leaders should be the ones leading, the wise ones who know how to calm things down and achieve justice in democratic ways.
Finally, all my respect to those brave men .. may they rest in peace and may God Bless their families.

I cant understand how we cant say its political if the guy shot at Kataeb supporters and hes with Skaff. Ya3ne its Kataeb vs. Skaff. Political.
Even if hes not skaff suporter he is opposed to kataeb. political.

N Skaff said ino houwe mina w fina thats just couple of words that he wants such people following him.
This guy is az3ar and a murderer like you said metel ejro this is what makes it worse that he doesnt care who he killed with children present the kateab should interfear because they where shot at, at the office and at the opening of the office and with Samir Gemayel present.
And 2 people Died from the Kateab and the worst is that Skaff kept in contact with the shooter after these things brings question to mind because this man is az3ar and people are aspecting such behaviour from him hes the ideal person to use in such atacks.
You want to commit a crime you get criminals not saints!!!

N, I really don’t know if it’s just a guy pissed of or something planned, I was not their …
However if it’s what like you said it’s a shame that it’s being used like this ..
However M14 are always blundering it’s not something new …
BTW whether it is intended or not, some reaction were not the best ones ..
8. lebnan_united | April 22nd, 2008 at 5:14 am
N10452,
Don’t you think its wrong the Kataeb were setting up their own checkpoints in Zahle, replacing the authority of the security forces?
Or do you only see this as wrong if Hezbollah have their no go areas?
9. Irange | April 22nd, 2008 at 5:45 am
Dear N,
I fully agree with you that we don’t want to go in christian clash.
but based on what u r saying, we can think that zo3ran el 1975 bil bosta el chahira keno merkin w ma3rouf sejelon w kawasso… tayeb ya khayeh w ba3den? el general taham 14M ino mdabrine el machkal…
chou el matloub? chou lezim ya3melo Beit el Gemayel? awlak pierre died due to afdaliyet mourour bil jdeideh? why not?!

N, two more questions do you think if skaff was organizing the event and the same senario happened with this guy he would shoot the people??
how do you the think the cancer community would reacted if the killer was from kateeb and the TWO died were with skaff or aounist?
11. N10452 | April 22nd, 2008 at 6:20 am
lebnan_united,
Kataeb members were standing around the new sector opened with no weapons or whatsoever and normally blocking the roads …
The man had no business passing there in the first place … 3emil 7alo 3antar wou baddo yikabbir rass …
12. N10452 | April 22nd, 2008 at 6:25 am
Irange,
You cannot compare this to 1975 in anyway and thats where i blame Sami for his nonsense speech !
In 1975, after Palestinians delibaretly tried to kill Pierre Gemayel and killed Abi Assi instead, the guys reacted …
Hone fi wa7ad az3ar wou 7ayawen 3am yetmanyak … mitil ma bi2oul el matal ba33id 3an el char wou ghaneelo ..
la2anno ra7 2ellak yeha bi kel bassata, iza mannak 2ad el az3ar ma titmanyak 3le ..
Halla2 kel chi 3emlou el Kataeb will go to vain, because they did not react but instead yelled and shouted ..
In my opinion, they Must not react and they should have treated this calmly and ask the army men to better control the event next time ..
13. as3ad | April 22nd, 2008 at 10:35 am
((Zahle incident : Who is to blame and how to react ?)) !!!! who the hell do u think u r (n10452)???
every time some shit happens u start making conclusions taking the role of a judge!!! what r u??? a fuckin Naser Kandil???
get lost man….
yeah two died in zahle but that doesnt make them innocent!! they must have done something bad enough to get shot for by an idiot…. but thats the way it is…. the criminal lives and people die….
14. Rodge | April 22nd, 2008 at 11:10 am
No one canj be sure at this point if the incident was deliberately initiated, but I can understand the Kataeb reaction, mainly Sami Gemayel.
N,
when you lose a friend or a rafi2 you can’t always keep ur temper cool, especially someone like Sami who still have all the youth enthusiasm.
Anyway things will cool down soon.
But personally I think the incident was not innocent and did not happen on the spot for many reasons:
- sources said the killer took some advance measures to keep his family away.
- A car prepared by his cousin waleed was waiting the killer to help him run free from the scene.
- At the same time the security forces supposed to protect the ceremony were kept busy by MP Salim Aoun who claimed that he was attacked by 2 LF members.
- Also the same security forces were busy investigating a “Salib Mashtoub” case.

“chou baddoun ya3emlo el Kataeb halla2 ??? bihoujo wou ba3den ma bye2dro ya3emlo chi !”
That’s a little overboard, don’t you think ? BTW, shou haidei ‘bihoujou’ w ma ba3rif shou. It’s reminding me of Slaimein frangieh’s infamous attack on sayidna el batrak. Rou2 rou2.
Plus what exactly do you want the Kataeb to do ? Amin Gemayel repeatedly called for calm and Salim got a little agitated but hey considering all that he has been through, cut him some slack alright. Show some solidarity here.
The architect schmucks behind this murder deserve to be brought in front of justice.
Those who are enticing hatred through false propaganda, who are looking for mass graves, who are occupying our streets and raping our constitution, who stand in opposition of electing a free president for Lebanon, have empowered thugs like Joseph Zouki to go about killing our brothers and sisters. This is the harsh reality, this is the hard truth. It is this very criminal and wealthy network that’s recruiting, training, and arming the unwary to split our ranks, falsify our history, and make a joke of our martyrs.
Hats off to my Kataeb brothers and sisters, you have made one sacrifice after another for Lebanon. We are indeed greatly indebted to your achievements and may God continue to strengthen your will and patience. Rest assured, we stand shoulder to shoulder in our quest to build a free independent country.
Long live Lebanon.

N,
I think you always want to be against everybody… and i bet if Samir Geagea said on tv what you are saying right now you will be writing a post against him on how he treated martyrs…. yesterday 2 christians guys died… el hayawen ba3do herben for some reasons… If the crime is not political, the way the opposition dealt with is pure political…. and we should not always believe in coincidences… This guy decided to shoot 12 people for personal reasons the day the Kataeb party decided to open a new office in Zahle….
17. Johnny.B | April 22nd, 2008 at 1:53 pm
N,
why are you talking like that?
first it’s normal for sami gemayel to react like that, his friends just got killed minutes after being with them… what do u expect from a young guy, i’m sure if u were in his place u would’ve even carried a weapon and went on TV.
“chou baddoun ya3emlo el Kataeb halla2 ??? bihoujo wou ba3den ma bye2dro ya3emlo chi !”
what’s this man? explain !!!
as if you’re talking about you’re enemy or something …

27. Michele | April 23rd, 2008 at 7:52 am
N, i’m afraid that this time i can’t agree with u but i totally respect ur point of view.
Do u remenber when i said in an earlier post that i had to recruit 2 yrs ago 2 candidates reffered by Eli Skaff and both turned out to be thieves and we had to terminate them? Well 1 of them was Joseph el Zouki.
Almost over a month ago, he contacted back the company where he used to work at (but i’m no longer working there), begging to give him back his job. Skaff also contacted the owner telling him that he has to take him back that Zouki can’t stay in Lebanon. But of course they wouldn’t take him back with his filthy file.
Furthermore all his family is gone; don’t u think that what happened was premeditated.

Sami Gemayel is the future of Al-Kataeb. Love it or leave it.
