After several warnings to stop the rocket fires from Gaza, IDF took the initiative and started a vast operation in the Gaza strip.
More than 60 people were killed only in yesterday’s raid, added to the 91 kills from the first 48 hours and hundreds of injuries ..

Men, women, children .. Israel is not sparing anyone in its attacks and is creating a new equation whereas it is the one attacking and not just retaliating against the rocket fires.

As an Israeli source quoted, “Now, the IDF has switched to ongoing methodical fighting from the air and on the ground deep inside the Strip. ”

Of course Hamas is to be blamed as well, it has been firing several rockets lately at Israeli villages (for ex Ashkelon), and has been warned by Israelis on many occasions. When you have a monster living right next to you, you dont go waking up if you cant fight him.

The UN condemned both sides and not just the Israelis, the international opinion is not siding against Israel surprisingly.

Here are words from the UN secretary general:

“While recognizing Israel’s right to defend itself, I condemn the disproportionate and excessive use of force that has killed and injured so many civilians, including children,” Ban told an emergency session of the council.

“I call on Israel to cease such attacks,” he said.

But then continued saying:

“I condemn Palestinian rocket attacks and call for the immediate cessation of such acts of terrorism,” he said.

Since its creation, Israel has only attacked us Lebanese because of groups like the PLO and Communists and other Anti-Israeli pro-violence groups, and today we have Israel’s biggest threat, Hezbollah, ready to risk Lebanon’s future to settle his scores with what he calls the ‘Zionists’ .

I wish Lebanese and mainly Shiites would understand the threat we are facing and start thinking rationally and for the love of their country, stop supporting this terrorist group named Hezbollah who is gonna cause us another deadly destructive war.

This Israeli attack is a lesson we MUST learn from, if we truly wanna preserve our country and hope for a brighter future.

    N10452,

Don’t bother urself, they won’t listen and refuse to understand. First they will accuse you of being an Israeli agent, and then a pro-American person, and after a non Lebanese and so on…

Those people will only listen to the sound of war played by HN and his allies, and if anything occurs in Lebanon, they will accuse the Government of being friends with the “Zionists” etc…
Just listen to what Khaled Mesh’al of Hamas said yesterday and you can expect what will happen here, it’s the same ideology and strategy. Mesh’al accused the Palestinian Authority President of ebing the reason behing the Israeli escalation, and he also considered the attacks as the best justification for the Palestinian missiles.
Typical response from Hamas, HA, Syria, and Iran.

God created us with brains, if we don’t use our brains to think of the consequences of our actions, we are unbelievers.

I blame every single palestinian death on hamas ,,,

those people never learn and never will learn that if you play with the snake it will bite you … they will always remain ignoratns and illeterate …

I wish israel would get rid of both of hamas and hizballah once and for all …

i feel sorry for womens and childrens, and I ask myself when will the palestinians finally understand that syria and iran use them as cannon fodder .The same is also true for HA.

  • 7. theCourtFool | March 2nd, 2008 at 2:25 pm

Isn’t it obvious? Israel is creating a whole people and generation to come that are willing to kill Israelis because of their barbaric self-defense.

I wonder if the US really is benefitting Israel by giving it means to defend itself through arms. Palestinians will get their turn, it will come for sure! And when it does, it’ll use the same barbaric tactic and it would have every right in the world to do so.

As for me personally I would love to see some mutual respect between Israel and Lebanon, we’ve had it slightly less violent. Christians have the power of forgiveness. And strongy believe Israel owes a public apology for dragging the Palestinians into Lebanon and for the massacres it has committed in Lebanon.

  • 8. gk | March 2nd, 2008 at 2:40 pm

please stay focused on Lebanon. It is better for Lebanon! We were in that situation when the Syrians were occupying Lebanon.
What will be your response if the Syrian regime re-occupied Lebanon and some groups (for Example, Ouwet) starting fighting back?
I am in favor of a peace between Lebanon and Israel.

  • 9. omar | March 2nd, 2008 at 4:09 pm

    N,

you raised an excellent point that needs to be highlighted.

For the past month and a half (since the destruction of the wall along the Philadelphi route), the following events have occured with no significant Israeli response:

    1. numerous warnings of weapons smuggling into the Gaza Strip

    2. Suicide bombing at Dimona (near Gaza) to which Hamas took responsibility for

    3. Continued attacks on Sderot and Israeli Arrow (aka Iron Dome) proven ineffective at repelling attacks

    4. Grad-rockets being launched as far north as Ashkelon

The Israelis have been warning and falatou mbare7. We have this impression of Israelis being some enlightened European country and are shocked to see them attack civilians so brutally. The reality is that the majority of Israeli society and the military cadre are Sephardim (ie. Arab) and Iranian (e.g. Shaul Mofaz, Amir Peretz, etc.) and just as brutal as their countries of origin.

Don’t hold Israelis to any different moral standards than, say, Syria.

    Hama rules?

  • 10. N10452 | March 2nd, 2008 at 4:24 pm

    Rodge,
There must have been some keyword which was within one of ur words .. i added few more since there have been many insults.

    Apologies.

    Omar,
Whether they are Arabs or not, Israel has been known for its barbaric attacks and wars … We have a government friends with the Americans and have a chance of signing peace with Israel and keeping this state away from us .. ( as in from attacking us).

It is a golden opportunity that we must not waste, but that we will most probably, like we wasted the Cedars Revolution 3 years ago.

  • 11. Tarek | March 2nd, 2008 at 4:30 pm

One thing to note, I think Hamas wanted Israel to attack ghazza and has been working on it so that it can get more support as it lost a lot of it. Look at mish3al, the first thing he said is accusing the current Palestinian authority. It’s just a game to get more support and win some political points inside Palestine.

  • 12. omar | March 2nd, 2008 at 5:05 pm

    N:

I agree with your characterization of Israel. let’s keep something in mind:

Hezbollah’s entire ‘defense-strategy’ for Lebanon implicitly assumes the humanity of Israeli policy-makers. Their entire tactic of guerilla warfare is to place weapons in civilian areas and conscript civilians for their operations. Their entire argument is that the Lebanese Army (read: a regular army) is not equipped to fight Israel for the basic fact that they cannot fight a guerilla war.

So if Guerilla Army (HA) = Victory over regular Army (IDF) then the assumption is that the IDF will not (or should not) attack civilians. Hezballah assumes the ‘civility’ of the (regular) Israeli Army.

As you stated, Israel has shown time and time again to be a the brutal army that it is. Gaza proves that reality and shows that a defensive strategy based on ‘guerilla warfare’ does not necessarily lead to a victory over a regular army.

not surprising. no one expects the LF to stand up against the country that has caused more death and destruction to lebanon than any other. you still wish for the days when your saintly bachir was about to step into the presidential chair and cut a deal with israel. i must hand it to you, you folks have been very patient.

  • 16. Patrick | March 2nd, 2008 at 8:26 pm

i don’t know why some are against peace with israel. the shebaa farms and other areas are not gaza and the west bank. many israelis want those areas because they were part of ancient israel, are home to hundreds of sites which are important to the jewish people religiously and historically, once included the temples of david and solomon, etc.

i’m not saying “therefore, we should let them have it.” what i AM saying is that the situation outlined above is not at all identical to the situation with lebanon.

what reason does israel have to occupy lebanese territory? there was no jewish temple in lebanon, no tomb of a jewish patriarch, etc.

to thousands of us, the answer is clear: the only interest the IDF has in continuing to occupy lebanese territory is the (justified) fear that if the IDF were to leave, they will only be replaced by HA or the syrian army. that should not be difficult for anyone to see, whether you are 14 march or orange or whatever.

if dialogue has shown itself to be possible with regard to the west bank and gaza, then how much more we should see that dialogue is possible with regard to lebanese territory. not only is dialogue possible, it is the ONLY solution.

  • 18. monkey | March 2nd, 2008 at 10:09 pm

What would you do if you were in Israel’s shoes?
what army isnt brutal? What war isnt brutal?

you guys sound like you expect the IDF to throw flowers on the palestinians.

Israel withdrew from gaza three years ago and dismantled settlements that were 40 years old. What did they get in return?

King Hussein killed more palestinians in black september than Israel killed in 50 years of existence. Assad the father killed scores of em in a single afternoon. Your phalangist brothers brutally massacred them in Sabra and Shatillah. the LA steps into a Palestinian refugee camp for three months and does as it wills. And you dare to raise your heads and claim you care for the palestinians? They are just used as a pawn and they dont even realize it.

If you cared for the Palestinians, you wouldnt have let them rot in refugee camps for 40-60 years.

The palestinians are trying to change the status quo by attacking civilian centers. That’s somewhat understandable. But they should have also predicted that Israel would retalliate, just like that famous physics law.

    Patriot,

I did not watch the rest of it I don’t need to. The funny thing that you are posting an opinion of a non lebanese citizen, why don’t you come to my neighberhood and ask them what do they think about HA?

HA is just a syrian occupation, it is nothing like resistance. The resistance which fight occupation do not stand watching and defending the years of syrian occupation of Lebanon. HA is just like La7d agents except that they work for the syrians and iranians. While we, the real resistance, were fighting the syrian occupation, (real battles against the invading syrian army my home is still damaged from the syrian bombing), and being persecuted and thrown in jail HA was happy with the occupation. HA is the occupation right now, and yes we are the resistance and we are all ready to fight and die to free our country from the occupation.

Monkey, I agree with you,but what makes you think that the readers of this blog care about the Palestinians. To my mind the average Israeli has more sympathy for them than the majority of the Lebanese people.

  • 28. ceg | March 3rd, 2008 at 7:10 pm

So the Israelis show their sympathy by taking Palestine and Lebanon has no sympathy by taking in Palestinans? It’s not Lebanese’s fault the Palestinans wanted to create a state within a state…but I bet I can tell you who’s fault that would be…

  • 29. paul | March 3rd, 2008 at 7:46 pm

Monkey,I think you should read the comments again.

  • 30. SONIA | March 4th, 2008 at 5:30 pm

ceg, I was actually thinking,or feeling,if you wish,on a human day by day, level.I used to hear a lot of sympathy and empathy expressed. Since we gave back Gaza and they got the greenhouses for free together with the contracts, and would have done anything to help them prosper, and we got a slap in the face and a barrage of rockets in return,we don’t exactly love them…at least not those that supported Hamas….but we still wish them well as long as they leave us alone.

Who is blaming Lebanon? I was commenting on the level of venom on this site…but I know nothing about what happened in lebanon when the P.L.O. landed on your doorstep. would like to hear about it.
