Sidon Dump ..

And i thought Bourj Hammoud was the only garbage hill we had … I cant believe this is in Sidon !

Greenpeace at Sidon Dump: Save the Med
Greenpeace activists have led a peaceful protest on the occasion of World Environment Day in front of the sea-side landfill of the southern port city of Sidon.
Thursday’s protest was aimed at reminding Lebanese decision-makers of the plight of the Mediterranean Sea and demanding the establishment of marine reserves and the closure of all coastal dumps.

The non-governmental organization’s representatives organized a sea tour for journalists as activists unfurled banners that said “Marine reserves now,” “Close the dumps,” and “Save the MED” to highlight the dump’s threats to the Lebanese coast.

“The Sidon dump has always been a political playground between different political parties,” said Nisrine al-Helwe, a Greenpeace ocean campaigner. “Immediate action should be taken to stop stockpiling the waste and kickstart a project to deal” with the issue.

The dump is just a few meters away from the tourist sites of Sidon — its crusader sea castle, ancient vaulted souk and Phoenician temple.

The 30-year-old “mountain of filth” has steadily grown over the years, reaching today the height of a four-storey building and a volume of about 600,000 cubic meters.

A combination of strong winds and an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0 on the Richter scale that hit Lebanon in February sent about 150 tones of rubbish blowing into the sea.

In California, they turn mountains of trash into golf courses.

Lebanon has a LONG way to go to become a civilized country.

1: Sidon must first get rid of Oussama Sa3d,this will be a good start in reducing the polution,
2: every single person in Sidon must go to this trash mountain and carry as much garbage as he can and throw it infront of every politician house in Sidon especially BAHIYA (OUSAMAM)HARIRI so she can stop playing on 2 ropes.
3: is it true what u mentioned about the 150 tons of garbage that fell in the sea|?
4: just a reminder, Sidon is the city of SA3OODA and Sanioura, but who cares the most important is BEIRUT (moush heik)?
