R.I.P Antoine Choueiri

Posted by N10452

Update: Funeral services will take place on Thursday 11th of March in Mar Gerges Cathedral in Beirut at 11 am then will be buried in his hometown in Bcharreh.

Antoine Choueiri has passed away around 14:00 today. He was admitted to the hospital lately due to a pneumonia and had many health issues.

For those who are not familiar with this man, Antoine Choueiri dominates the media landscape in the Middle East as a representative of some of the major names in the local industry, including Lebanon’s LBC Sat, the Al Jazeera network, the daily newspaper Al Hayat based in London, the UAE’s Dubai Media Inc and Lebanese publications Al Nahar and Al Safir. [More]

But for us in Lebanon, and specifically the Sagesse fans, he was more known as “President” and as the man who turned the humble and modest Sagesse team into an multi-Arab and double Asian champion. He revolutionized basketball in Lebanon and made it reach international levels of competition. Basketball and other sports today still suffer in Lebanon because of his retirement from sports few years ago.

R.I.P President. You will be missed.

you gave us hope in the dark days.
you will always be remember as the man Who kept the Christians Head High through the Sports when everything else was collapsing.

  7. afif says:

even sports have to be a sectarian thing ya elie? what was the sagesse, the basketball militia of the christians? did you forget fadi el khatib? he was not a christian and the sagesse owes him a lot for his contribution, and i dont think he was doing it for the christian *cause*.

RIP to antoine choueiri, he was a funny man a philanderer, and can be credited with alot in the lebanese sports scene.

  8. afif says:

I meant philanthropist…those two words can be confused

  9. Charles says:

Afif what Elie means is way more than you understood it to mean. It was more of symbolism to Christians in Lebanon represented by Sagesse. The fact that everyone’s eyes were turned towards this great club (being Christian) gave Christians here a sense of feeling, a sense of belonging, that they thought was going away. He was real hope and you have to look at all dimensions to know exactly what we mean. May his soul rest in peace.

Antoine Choueiry has done for the LF what no one else did during the last 30 years.
He set a model of a mix of avantgarde business courage and profound faith in God and irreductible political engagement for the lebanese christian cause.
A model that should inspire healthy lebanese christian businessmen, in Lebanon and abroad.

    Monsieur PN,

    R.I.P Antoine Choueiri.

we are sad that your gone but we are glad that we lived to see your golden basketball era.
you are tha only man who promised to do something for lebanon and did it.

May your soul rest in peace.

  16. PN says:

Let’s leave this post for Choueiri’s memory at the moment and not make it about you.

    Well Well,

Re : PN posts and anti posts.

Finally a Lebanese christian blog at a level.

Gentlemen ( or Ladies ), there is some degree of sense in what both parties are claiming.

P.N who might as well be a fallen Aounist, and who apparently closely knew Mr Choueiri, has credit for portraying business life in Lebanon and in particular among christians as a forest like grid of power where ” La raison du plus fort est toujours la meilleure “.If have myself experienced this misfortune with other christian mogul businessmen and that led to my migration.

On the other hand , He or she should not generalize his or her personal experience to society.Le “crucifix tranchant” my friend does not belong to Mr Choueiry, Dr Geagea or anyone else. It is for us all and a symbol of rooting in the Middle East for the church of the son of God.

Yes , we should not idolize any of our leaders, on the contrary use our own personal leadership to reform. Thank you Gentlemen ( or ladies ).

God bless your soul Mr Choueiry.

    Dear PN,
you are definitely not lebanese and have not been brought up by poeple who know what ethics and respect are, So, you surely have no idea what honesty is and will never see good people as they are! Mr Choueiri God rest his soul, was the only man whom all sports club in all of lebanon lived from. and was the only one who kept them alive. not forgetting the needy he helped with no Big Plaques hung up in his name for thanks. So go study whatever religion you come from, and open your eyes to goodness and honesty.
you will never get respect from the living, neither do you know how to respect the dead!
if you are Lebanese, then flush yourself, cause i doubt anyone would be proud of having you as a lebanese
