I heard it will be a 10 stars hotel.

  • 2. Tarek | March 11th, 2008 at 12:45 pm

I hope to see it there. If we get rid of the occupation, we will have tons of such investments especially now that the gulf is having a very large surplus due to oil prices. This money unfortunately is being invested somewhere outside Lebanon. I think the moment we get rid of the occupation, Lebanon will be back to its place.

  • 3. c | March 11th, 2008 at 12:55 pm

it’s kind of the ugliest thing i’ve ever seen… i’m obviously all for development and investment, but why can’t we do it with a little class and a little taste?

  • 4. Patriot | March 11th, 2008 at 12:57 pm

    guys

I was briefied a year ago about this project (Apeiron Hotel as i remember - Apeiron (Απειρον using Greek characters) is an Ancient Greek word meaning something like “boundless”, “limitless”, or “infinity”.
) but it was set to be built in Dubai! is it really going to be done in Beirut??? where do you get your info / this update from??this would make my day if it will be done in lebanon
    crossing fingers

  • 5. kezballah | March 11th, 2008 at 2:41 pm

This is the taste of Khaleejieh… UGLY! Who gives the right to these investors to change our sea view!!?????

  • 6. ghassan karam | March 11th, 2008 at 3:19 pm

I do realize that anything is possible in Lebanon but to allow the construction of this hotel in the sea is an outrage that must never be tolerated. The Lebanese government does not own the land under water but only holds it in trust for the Lebanese people , born and unborn. No one has the authority to abuse this right and profiteer from it.

  • 7. Michele | March 11th, 2008 at 3:23 pm

Yeah that’s true, i heard that it will be done in Dubai and i agree that it’s not esthetic at all!
However i’m glad that we still have optimistic investors…

  • 8. Patriot | March 11th, 2008 at 3:45 pm

i think it is unlikely to happen
such investments require a track of political stability of the passing 5 years and an upcoming 5..u do the math

  • 9. ocejdo | March 11th, 2008 at 5:05 pm

Hope it won’t start really… this is fucking ugly, whow can someone build this shit in the middle of our old and legendary sea view?

  • 10. Hanoun | March 11th, 2008 at 5:13 pm

it will be good for the economy, I hope that if it does happen it will create tons of jobs unless they go with a gulf construction company but as Patriot said its highly unlikely to happen taking into consideration the current situation we are in…

  • 11. Ziad | March 11th, 2008 at 6:53 pm

No one in his right mind would pump $3.5b’s in Lebanon at the moment. This may have been planned prior to the July war and the start of the Hizbullah coup in Lebanon, but definately its a no go project.

  • 12. m in dubai | March 11th, 2008 at 7:22 pm

Zo2 khalijiyyeh? most if not of the high rise buildings in the gulf are designed by US and japanese firms such as S.O.M and Taisei.

I suspect such a project to go ahead with the current situation in Lebanon. Just a piece of info to all u guyz, lebanese engineers and managers all over the gulf are supervising the world’s most interesting projects….. we have a great breadth of talent and one day if a construction boom was to take place in lebanon …they will all jump at the idea of working on projects in their homeland.

lol they cant even complete the bridge in Dora they are gonna start construction on that?

  • 17. kezballah | March 11th, 2008 at 10:06 pm

m in dubai: You are right the companies are foreign but they are building in a big desert so they have nothing to worry about.

Lebanon is not the same way, Lebanon has a culture and heritage that should be preserved. If every rich investor wants to build a massive monstrosity what is left of the Lebanese shore and mountaines? It is dangerous for Lebanon.

  • 18. theCourtFool | March 11th, 2008 at 10:20 pm

  • 19. 3im | March 11th, 2008 at 10:34 pm

in front of me a very nice old building was bought and soon it will be gone

  • 20. Mar Yuhanna Maroun | March 12th, 2008 at 12:58 am

I heard it’s going to be owned by Emile Lahoud! is it true? he is partner with Bashar. It’s going to be the future Alcatras of Lebanon.

  • 21. Wael | March 12th, 2008 at 3:54 am

This is the concept design of Apeiron Hotel in Dubai and it’s NOT IN LEBANON!!

    More info on project here:

    http://www.dubaifaqs.com/apeiron-hotel.php

And it’s not a khaliji design!!

It was designed by a british firm (Sybarite):

I’m guessing nobody watched May Chidias talk show last night. They spoke about this project and they said it’s a lie.

    comrads,
this hotel to be build in Dubai.
    http://www.dubaifaqs.com/apeiron-hotel.php

Apeiron Hotel (not Aperion or Apieron), or Apeiron Island Hotel is a design concept for a new 7 star hotel in Dubai. Developer and construction schedule have not been announced as of October 2007. The Apeiron Hotel would be the second (self-awarded) 7 star hotel to be built in Dubai. The Burj Al Arab hotel was the first 7 star hotel (also a self-awarded rating).

The Apeiron will have 350 luxury apartment suites and be a jungle-themed hotel built on an island about 300-500 m off the coast of Dubai - close enough to swim to but that’s not the intended mode of transport to access the island. It will be accessible by boat or helicopter only. The top two floors of the Apeiron will contain a jungle with butterflies and other insects. As yet, it is unknown if insect repellent will be included with your bathroom goodies. Other features will include an art gallery, cinemas, conference facilities, shops, underwater spa & gym, an underwater restaurant, and private lagoons & beaches for the guests.

Architect is Sybarite Architects of London
Cost of the resort is estimated at AED 1.8 billion (US$500 million)
Floor area 200,000m², hotel height 185m (the Burj Al Arab is about 320m)

  • 28. Maher | March 12th, 2008 at 9:33 am

So there we go, its a scam, but hey its would be great if we would have buillt in lebanon, no matter how ugly some may preceive it. I live in Dubai, and everything is driven by real estate and tourism, so I think it would be be very NAIVE saying that we should not let this be built. This is trourism , is is money coming from outside and INVSETED in lebanon , this is tourists who come to SPEND money..

.. to bad its in Dubai :(

  • 29. Johnny.B | March 12th, 2008 at 9:45 am

yes of course its in dubai …

  • 30. appo | March 12th, 2008 at 10:18 am

this is the Architect SYBARITE webpage about this hotel in Dubai…
    http://84.252.230.69/sybarite/131.htm

The aptly named ‘Apeiron’ hotel is derived from Anaximander’s 6th century BC cosmological theory. He believed the beginning of time to be an endless, unlimited mass, subject to neither old age nor decay, perpetually yielding fresh materials, from which everything we can perceive is derived.

At 185m, this $500 million island hotel features a total floor area of 200,000m² and over 350 luxury suites. Access to this exclusive 7 Star resort is restricted to water (yacht) and air (helicopter) only. For the ultimate in arrival and departure style, yachts can moor in the heart of the building’s core. The Apeiron is the definitive James Bond retreat, boasting its own private lagoon, beaches, restaurants, art gallery, luxury shopping, cinemas, spas and conference facilities. Its dramatic silhouette on the horizon creates a completely unique architectural icon that will be instantly recognised worldwide.

Hopefully some Lebanese will have job opportunities during construction and after the opening i will assure you, it will be a sole destination for our hookers…

  • 31. kezballah | March 12th, 2008 at 3:03 pm

Thank you for the information appo.

This fits with Dubai’s style but I hope they stay out of Lebanon, we can do different investments like Greece and Cyprus. It doesn’t have to be spectacular like Dubai.

  • 32. WAEL ARJA | March 12th, 2008 at 4:17 pm

    guysss t2akkkadddett 3alll akidddd!!!!:D:D it’s in lebanonnn:D:D visitt thiss sitee http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?p=18922799

  • 33. Patriot | March 12th, 2008 at 4:20 pm

    hey appo

For sure this will cost more than 500M$

Usually the cost of this kind of developments is first estimated per Key..don’t know how many hotel rooms/keys there will be, but the kind reaches 2M$ a key easily(including soft costs and amenities); add to that the apartments at minimum 1200$/m2

it is way more than 500M$

  • 34. Patriot | March 12th, 2008 at 4:24 pm

check the new Norman foster project in Abu-Dhabi…seem to be a new landmark from this legend

  • 35. josedaou | March 13th, 2008 at 1:54 am

guys plz stop saying its a shit damn i think its a masterpiece im a designer and this is something beyond imagination and concepts building it will be surely supervised by lebanese engineers cuz they r the most talented in middle east…
second guys building this is such a challenge it will rock the tv stations and the news burj al arab now is all over the internet and tv stations … imagine what this could make ?
hope this project will take place as they say and all the investors will look forword for more .. this is our gateway for success …

  • 36. Arze | March 13th, 2008 at 12:00 pm

That is the most expensive hotel in the world not lebanon : )

  • 37. kezballah | March 13th, 2008 at 7:50 pm

josedaou it’s a very nice design but it’s a monstrosity for Lebanon, it doesn’t fit in with anything. I don’t want Beirut to look like Khaleej, it will be ugly. Look at the huge Mosque that Hariri built in downtown it is a nice design but it looks like Saudi Arabia, look at the Phoenicia hotel also… Please don’t copy Dubai in Beirut.

  • 38. Bachir Sayegh | March 13th, 2008 at 11:12 pm

hate to burst ure bubble guys , but this hotel is definitely in Dubai not here :S

  • 39. Tarek | March 15th, 2008 at 7:21 pm

It shows 1.8 Billion dollars. I guess they’ll transfer it to Lebanon since they will be payed 3.8 Billion dollars :P

  • 40. Tarek | March 15th, 2008 at 7:23 pm

Sorry about the number, it costs 1.8 billion UAE Durhams = 500 million dollars. Here it’s 3.6 billion dollars! Definitely they ‘re moving it to Lebanon!!!

  • 41. khalil | March 16th, 2008 at 1:23 am

  • 42. roland | March 16th, 2008 at 9:20 am

This won’t take place in beirut it will take place in dubai, It is the Apeiron hotel designed by Sybarite design firm in London.
    http://www.sybarite-uk.com/131.htm#

  • 43. Tarek | March 19th, 2008 at 11:24 pm

well I don’t know khalil, but If we’re going to pay 3.6 billion dollars instead of 500 million we sure will have it here :) just speculating!
