LF Vs. Army

I am not surprised at all to see Army intelligence officers treat young LFers that way. For years during the Syrian hegemony, my LF friends and comrads were beaten, interrogated, humiliated and even assassinated by the pro-Syrian Lebanese intelligence officers. Nowadays, Syria is out but its leftovers are here, not to forget the Aoun nostalgic officers who wouldn’t miss a chance in the world to humiliate an LFer.

What’s the story ?
A 14 year old LF sympathizer accused of beating non-Maronite students in December was supposed to be warned by intelligence officers, but instead was beaten and humiliated.

the LF said “Chaaya was first taken to an intelligence office in Baabda after having his hands tied and his head covered with a black bag,” after which he was transferred to another location, where he was beaten.
The statement added that even if the General Prosecutor summons a minor to take his testimony, the minor’s father must be present.
“[In fact] even the judge cannot interrogate the minor in court, except with the presence of a delegate of the juvenile court,” the LF added.

The Lebanese Forces filed an official lawsuit against those intelligence officers and urged Defense minister Elias el Murr to handle the issue properly.

    Most of LF youth prbs with the army are due in large part to their barbaric wars with the army and to their careless and abusive behaviors toward all of those who disagree with them. Anyone who want to start trouble with the army is nothing but a thug, a gangster and a criminal. Let the army take care of them..

    We all know that the Secret Service branch of the LA is infested with Syrian and Hezbollah agents who wouldn’t miss the slightest opportunity to take a jab at the LFs irrespective of the nature of the issue.

    That said, I think this particular incident is too inflated and does not deserve that level of attention, and the engagement of LFs at any level in political feuds with Murr or anyone else. The LFs faces much more pressing issues at the national level.

    Usually i would be the first calling for the army be be respect after their recent efforts in Tripoli etc, but treating a 14 year old like this while there is well known criminals running around all over Beirut is shocking and really doesn’t do them any favours.

    anyone who thinks this isn’t a big deal has shit for brains if you ask me. The LF & kids parents have every right to take action.

    The offices who knew of & took part in this should be severely punished if true.

    I clearly remember the dark days back in the early 1980’s after Amine Gemayel had been sworn in as president and Israeli troops had left West Beirut, the army then was asked by the newley elected president to take up positions and start to assume its role to take over many positions in the city, and then something awful happened, SOME LF elements infiltrated army commands and began to search and humiliate residents of West Beirut, even taking some people and not returning them until after torturing them…this process was so infuriating and frustrating to those who followed sheikh Bachir’s promise that the LF would play a unting role within the army nad strengthen it as opposed to undermine it…well what happened after this episode is well known..it led to the splitting of the army shortly thereafter and eventually later the weakening of the LF. I too, had high hopes that the LF would greatly contribute to the army and strengthen the nation as sheikh Bachir wanted, but alas, history turned out to be cruel to this dream!
