LBC vs. LF

A lose-lose situation for both parties, but mostly for the LF.
Such a shame how things ended between those two … walla 3eb !

From Naharnet:

Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation (LBC) Chairman Pierre Daher on Tuesday called Ministers of Justice, Interior and Information to immediately intervene in ending breaches and practices committed by the Lebanese Forces (LF) against the Corporation through some ex-employees.
In an open letter to the ministers Ibrahim Najar (Justice), Ziad Baroud (Interior) and Tareq Mitri (Information), Daher described the situation at LBC as,” an ongoing occupation and violation of company buildings by the former LBC security official Charbel Abi Aqel and other LF supporters.”

Daher stated,” In light of the fragile security situation at LBC and practices by expelled LF supporters, in particular Mr. Charbel Abi Aqel, who continues to act with carelessness and irresponsibility, I place this matter between your hands based on your executive responsibility.”

    N,

I have been trying to follow this the past three years…ever since Hakim was liberated. I think Pierre Daher is feeling that he will eventually lose in the courts; so he is trying to embarass the Hakim and LF by innuendo.

If he were to be confident, I am sure the courts would have sided by him by now and he would not lose his nerves. He seems to be losing ground in his “publicity” and pr “war” with the LF.

Either way what a shame that Daher stole Basheer’s station!

    N,
3eb indeed… 3eb 3ala samir geagea. Who gives him the right to take over LBC ? shou melk bayyo el LBC ?? Daher managed to keep it running during the most difficult times and not only did he succeed, but he made it THE best TV station in the M.E.
A model which was subsequently copied by all the Arabs.
Geagea thinks that because he spent 11 (deserved) years in jail he’s entitled to do whatever he wants, disregarding the law ???
Look at RLL, since it went back to the LF it lost all its objectivity and credibility. It’s become like a parrot repeating the voice of its master.
LBC stopped belonging to the LF ages ago…GET OVER IT !!!! They are doing a great OBJECTIVE job… But to Mr. Geagea, everything that doesn’t praise him and HIS LF is not objective and against him… hayda wahad milishyawe az3ar ba3do metel ma houwwe. ma tghayyar wala ra7 yetghayyar bi hayeto… If he wants a TV let him go to his master Saad Hariri, Christmas is coming soon, maybe if he’s been a good boy uncle Saad will offer him one….
Now is good time to see if Najjar is the good, objective and fair minister he’s pretending to be or just a small employee working for a thug posing a saint…

Anonymous, not one word in your post has any intelligence behind it, but you seem to have it all figured out, good for you. As for the rest of us, we believe in the intelligent exchange of ideas. Your post is the simple rant of a 5 year old that someone just stole his favorite toy. If you are 5, then it is ok, but if you are older, then grow up, being an adult is usually accompanied by coherent speech. You hate geagea we get it, ok you hate him very very much, good for you, I am sure that is a very original thought that you came up with on your own, really fresh. And no, don’t believe your mom when she tells you that you are the smartest around…. A vessel can only contain what you fill it with, It is not your fault.

    Anonymous,
Its not about who kept it going or not .. i already wrote a post on this matter and explained my point of view ..

Hakim should not be forcing himself on LBC and applying such methods and Daher should not be that stubborn as well ..

But what most people dont seem to understand is that the LBC stopped being pro-LF long long time ago … and that move is what kept it alive unfortunatelly ..

  • 12. Rodge | November 19th, 2008 at 9:13 am

I don’t know why some people (Anonymous) can’t debate naturally by giving their opinion on a matter without having to show they hatred for others.

Anyway, until those people realize there are not contributing in a good way to this blog, let evrybody of us gives his own opinion.
For me, it is true that LBC was established by the LF, and it is true also that Pierre Daher was and still the one who run it and took it to this level, and it is true that he tried all that time to keep it safe and going.

But, and eventhough I consider the station as the best in the Middle East, and with the fact that I still consider it as my first choice in TV, but we Lebanese should ask ourselves whether it is still a Lebanese station, mainly the LBC SAT who is more Saudi than Lebanese, more Arabic channel.

In my opinion, Pierre Daher is not the only one who made LBC as successfull as it is now, it is the combination of staff including creative and youth people who worked hard and gave many good things, many new ideas for the station.
Daher was not alone in this, there are people who really did well, such as the big Antoine Choueiri, Elie Salibi with the news desk, and others…
Pierre Daher has changed now, he’s not the man we knew before, he has chosen to follow his own interests with Walid Bin Talal, and he is giving everything, including the true identity of LBC, which is the Lebanese identity.

So in order to resolve this issue, and knowing that most of the LBC staff are pro LF, let him keep the LBC SAT and give away the LBC to the LF to bring it back to its Lebanese identity.
LF needs this station to promote their cause, and most of the Lebanese Christians want it back to Lebanon, and I know that many of the staff want it back to the old days, the real days of glory.

Anonymous, i heard that Aoun started begging for money for his OTV; baddak e7killak yé la Sheikh Saad to help him out???

I thought the IRR that he got from Iran would cover enough but it seems it’s never enough to Aoun… :P

Maybe he should ask for some from his son-in-law Jibran ImBassil, i’m sure he has some to spare after his recent great deals ;)

Whats wrong in working with Bin talal ? and his money ?

do you know that the Cash flow in the Gulf is now buying everything in the world ? recently Barclays ?

You should be thankfull that pierre sourced money from a business man , and made a huge corporation out of it , creating thousands of jobs in Lebanon !you should be thankful we lebanese are close to these gulf business man .

Daher did a wonderful job , not only in preserving LBC , but by also promoting it to what it is now….him and his team .

Giving it back to Geagea will take LBC to a viewer rate of 30 000 instead of millions !

I agree LBC was founded by the LF….but in the days of Bachir….lets keep it as a symbol of a Christian Channel, a channel where we can see christmas & christian stories from the bible , Where we can see church ceremonies on sundays , where christian voice can freely speak there….not a station where Geagea and all his interest will be posted regularly ….
People are tired of Geagea and his militia ideas , people are also tired of Aoun…

LBC has still got the chance to be the only neutral Christian channel in Lebanon. Lets keep it like this !

the case is not only between daher and geagea.. the LBC had become a big COrparation with big investors who will not led go.

after the release of geagea, the staff of LBC were excited and rikbou al mawji .. bass that made LBC loose a lot of its position in the market and viewers.. daher and the many investors couldnt accept to let everything colapse

that made bin tala and his powerful law team stood still behind daher , and that what gave daher the power to stand against geagea and to do the many changes since then…

honestly, this have saved LBC from becoming another future TV or manar ( to save u some of your BS)…

    salam

  • 17. Rodge | November 19th, 2008 at 12:12 pm

    ezrA,

If you are living in any of the Gulf countries, you will understand better.
I don’t mind working with Bin Talal or any one in the Gulf, since I myself is doing that since i live in Kuwait, but when you talk about keepin it as a symbol of a Christian Channel, this is where I disagree with you.
LBC SAT is anything but a symbol of a christian channel, since nothing Christian is allowed to be aired, you know that everytime LBC and other TV stations are transferring live ceremonies or events from a church or a christian place, LBC Sat and LBC Europe and all the channels submitting to the arab countries change their grid and put another program instead??
Also, when you say creating lots of jobs, for who? FYI, Lebanese employees are getting fewer by rate, and many Arab people are being recruited by the company.

I will say it again, I like LBC more than any other station, and I appreciate its neutrality, but Pierre Daher is doing many mistakes now, one of them is he’s getting apart from Antoine Choueiry, who is not only one of the people who made the channel, but he was like a brother to Daher and now because of Bin Talal’s interests, he forgot everything he does.

  • 18. ezrA | November 19th, 2008 at 12:21 pm

i do work in the gulf …and i totaly understand why LBC change their grid on christian masses….because its simply a matter of respecting the Gulf or arab Culture ! If you want to access a new market , you have to respect that market , and one of these conditions are what you mentioned !

how ever what i was mentioning was the LBC local channel for lebanese and christian lebanese where we still see lots of christian masses …but when it comes to Sat Channels ! its normal for them to cut it , since its not allowed !

i have no problem LBC being a wing in the middle east , and another one for Lebanaese , adn specially christians in Lebanon ….

I also cant agree with you , regarding what you said about arab recruitements .
I work in Media , and i know what im talking about …the circle of work that LBC production and its shows has created hundreds if not thousands of Jobs , where most of them are taken by lebanese . And in this field , in the ME , Lebanese are the best ! From production houses , to media buying ….lebanese are the ones taking over .

  • 19. Rodge | November 19th, 2008 at 1:58 pm

    ezrA,

I work in Media too, but it seems each of us has his own perspective.
But I want you to answer me why this respect to the market, or it’s normal for them to cut it since it is not allowed, while other channels (NTV, Future, even Al Arabiya) are allowed?
Each time there is a memorial mass for one of the Christian Politicians who were assassinated, only LBC Sat is not diffusing it, so it is an internal policy not a matter of respect or other.

  • 20. Rodge | November 19th, 2008 at 2:03 pm

As for employment for Lebanese, and as you said we are the best in the business, I think all the Arab channels are gibing the opportunity, and we are seeing Lebanese everywhere, not only on LBC.

I insist once again that i’m not attacking LBC at all, in fact i’m so attached to that channel and I have a big respect towards Pierre Daher and all those working there, I spent big time there and I know most of the staff, but the truth must be told.

  • 21. Fuziyad | November 19th, 2008 at 2:15 pm

LBC is almost impossible to recuperate and I think LF shouldn’t push the conflict too hard cuz the only outcome would be the pro LF employees being sacked(daher all ready dreams abt that but saudi pressure stops him from doing)

However march14 christians definitely need a TV for 2009 elections eventhough I think it’s allready too late. MTV would be really great cuz it will benefit from an allready existing and popular image but it seems no funds are being found, not that suprising…who would invest in a TV that would probably end up being burnt or closed by our freedom loving compatriots?

I just might buy OTV only to have its name changed to OT-TV…
Anyways this whole issue is being resolved in court, so why not leave at that… The LF and Daher have every right to defend their respective positions as long as it is being settled in a civilized manner… And if eventually the LF get it back, then all those craving an objective TV station will just have to suck it up, because the LF have as much right to own a TV station as any of the remaining parties in Leb, especially with all the abuse and BS they are subject to from the other stations.
