Can someone please explain what this “2irda3″ Fatwa all about ?

This is the 3rd article i read concerning this Fatwa and its impacts on the Muslim society. Even explaining it makes me sick to be honest. Thank God this Sheikh who came up with it in Egypt was isolated and banned from the Jami3 el Azhar, but it does raise several questions as for how such sheikhs are allowed to issue fatwas in the first place.

Here is another “sickening” story of how a man wants his wife to breastfeed his friend as per the Fatwa so that they spend a holy ramadan together.

Here is some more info on the Fatwa :

The breastfeeding fatwa is a fatwa (a religious ruling within Islam) issued by a lecturer of Cairo’s Al-Azhar University that suggested that male and female colleagues could use symbolic breastfeeding to get around a religious ban on being alone together.

The fatwa said that if a woman fed a male colleague “directly from her breast” at least five times they would establish a family bond and thus be allowed to be alone together at work.

“Breast feeding an adult puts an end to the problem of the private meeting, and does not ban marriage,” he ruled. “A woman at work can take off the veil or reveal her hair in front of someone whom she breastfed.”

The issuer had drawn on Islamic traditions that forbid sexual relations between a man and a woman who has breastfed him to suggest that symbolic breastfeeding could be a way around strict segregation of men and women. Wetnursing, the practice of one woman breastfeeding another’s baby, was widespread in Arab culture, and the child refers to the woman as his “milk mother”, thereby creating a social relationship that would preclude later marriage. This relationship makes the two people mahram (unmarriageable) to each other. See also Islamic marital jurisprudence.

I find it well that the Islam discussed sexuel relations on the media.i read about it on alarabiya but the problem is as in any other religion there are many proponents and many opponents, that`s why i did understand nothing in the end :-(

I don’t think there was any point in posting this article … I personally have no comment what-so-ever.

I don’t think that a Lebanese-Christian-political blog needs to comment on an internal Islamic issue.
There are Jewish (lunatic) rabis who, from time to time issue bizarre “Jewish fat’was”, as well. I would be pissed if someone would use those to snub me, and other Jews for that.

i searched and i read about this fatwa.. i found that the sheikh who claimed this fatwa is based to something happened with Prophet Mohammed.
he’s saying (i don’t know if it’s right or not) that the prophet asked one of his wives Aisha to breastfeed his friend..

doctors from Al Azhar said that they never heard of this before but he insisted that this happened with the prophet and his reference is :”a7adith al bokhary” and there’s special ways for breastfeeding the adult..
and he mentioned this in a TV interview..

anyway this is his reason for the fatwa, i don’t know anything about this reference book but i visited also an arabic blog talking about this topic and the surprise was that i found people supporting this sheikh (saying that he’s right) and of course others cursing him..

    Gentlemen,

God distinguished human beings from animals by offering them a big GIFT called “BRAIN”. That BRAIN was given to us to use and evaluate things. Any “FATWA” that contradicts with human BRAIN will DIE by itself before being refused by Muslims themselves.

To come back to the subject, this FATWA IS NOT A FATWA because it doesn’t have the proper ELEMENTS of FATWA (I will not mention them in a religious way but in public language order):

1- MOFTY: the one to issue a FATWA should be classified first as MOFTY or related to MOFTY Committee which is not the case with SHEIKH Izzat Ateyah (name of the idiot who issued such story). He was the head of one branch in AZHAR which has no authority of issuing a FATWA.

2- PROOF: this sheikh depended on a story (see how weird is the story) that he founded in a book saying that Prophet Mohammad asked his wife to breastfeed one MAN in order for that man to enter to prophet house without being a foreigner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For God Sake, an abnormal guy with IQ tends to zero cannot believe that such a story took place! How come this sheikh can believe such a story! Why this story wasn’t discovered 1400 years before? Hence, the PROOF for this FATWA is not VALID hence we cannot take it for granted. (Where is our BRAIN that GOD offered it to us?)

3- Consequences: the consequences of any NEW FATWA should not contradict with ISLAM basics. What do we have here: a woman letting a foreigner to suck from her breast!!!!!!!!! Where is the VEIL? If Islam didn’t allow the woman to show her hair to a foreigner, how come Islam will let that foreigner to SUCK from her BOOBS!!!! (Where is our BRAIN that GOD offered it to us?)

4- Application: any new FATWA should be applicable to be valid. Here I want to ask that idiot (Izzat Ateyah) Can you please send your wife to breastfeed all my friends because they want to visit you on daily basis since they have a religious project to handover to their university doctor? (Where is our BRAIN that GOD offered it to us?)

    I think this is enough.
Once again I say: “Lets use our BRAINS in evaluating anything”

    Mohammad,
they asked him the same question in the interview (if he accepts that his wife breastfeeds his friends), and he said that he had no problem at all…

anyway what you said is logic, there’s contradiction between Islam and this “Fatwa”…

    Cheers,

If he has no problem, LETS GO :)
I am sure he is insane and will be punished soon.

    Thanks

Not every Fatwa is taken seriousely by the Muslim community, nonetheless this is indicative of the hypocrisy of this religion.

I wonder when Muslim women are gonna stand up to their rights and say no to this nonsense…When Muslim women will understand that polygamy(multiple wifes) degrades the (karameh) human dignity of women …

When are Muslim women going to rebuke Zawaj el Mout3aa, the veil and all other discriminatory fatwas?

Once I asked a Muslim lady about her opinion regarding polygamy she said that it is ok for her husband to marry another woman if she is unable to have kids or if one day she cannot satisfy his se**al needs….

I asked a shiaa classmate about zawaj el mout3aa..he said it is a way of having a legal extra marital affair without feeling guilty.

It is so sad when religious Fatwas legalize immoral behaviours?

I urge all educated and smart Muslims to have a look at their religious beleifs before following and adopting them.

    Cheers
