My friend sent me this picture he found on a blog. It was taken during the celebrations Phalangists held as they won the Holiday Inn during the civil war.

I thought we took a beating during the H.I battle!!! Am I missing something or perhaps those 2 guys were celebrating the fact that they managed to stay alive as opposed to their comrades?!
Seriously though, didn’t we lose this battle?

  • 2. Reminder | February 8th, 2010 at 9:46 pm

they lost the H.I battle just like they lost almost every battle, they started the war and lost every battle… they just couldnt compromise with the muslims at first, neither Pierre Gemayel nor Cammille Chamoun may they burn in hell..

The HI battle was part of the battle of the hotels (harb el fanadeq) in which Kataeb and their allies were trying to secure the entries to the eastern sector but failed to do so because the PLO at the time put in some serious numbers in that battle and evantually surrounded and cut them off which led to their taking over these hotels…in the end, this proved to be useless as the war switched to the war of towers between Murr and Rizk….

war was such a messy and bad thing, its a pity that some people still think they were right, both parties were wrong and both lost.

The stupidity comes from the bad history that is fed to the grandchildren of both muslims and christians.

Muslim were wrong and Christians were wrong.

  • 7. Reminder | February 8th, 2010 at 10:28 pm

danny i live very well thank very much because my parents worked hard instead of plundering and killing and burning… bt I am talking about the overall status of the christians in lebanon and how badly it has been diminished… and if only the maronite (i am maronite btw) leaders were a bit more fair with the muslims then they wouldnt have pushed them to side with the palestinians and betray their own countrymen (thats where the muslims went wrong)..

dont be too proud of these times ya jame3a these ppl bahdalouna staring with pierre gemayel and cammile chamoun…

to quote that blog from which N got the pic “the jubilation was to be of short duration – they lost it back to the Palestinians not so long after.”

so yes Al they lost that battle…. just as they lost ma3rakit el jabal and the battle of zahle and and and….. but i do think that amine won a poker game against yasser arafat..so thats something to brag about guys!

  • 8. danny | February 8th, 2010 at 10:32 pm

    Reminder,

Buddy it was a rough stretch and all made mistakes! But do not go blaming LF for it! You are right in blaming the maronite “leaders”…as they were nothing but on the bribe whores!!
Go tell that story to those who allowed the Palestinians in! Kataeb and later LF were defending the COUNTRY against these murders and rapists! Get your facts straight!

i believe the smily faces in the picture had a very bad end… the bodies of the phalangist snipers and fighters who were controling the HI ended up tighed up by long ropes behind the cars and droven around the street of west beirut… no need to write how they were killed..

    good people….

Looking around of what Lebanon looks like right now; you’d realize that things are getting worse. The Cedar or banana(that’s for HA yellow) revolutions and resistance are futile! There NEVER was a nation called Lebanon; only a country! Today we are all witness to that! We follow w*h*o*r*es and feudal warlords who masquerade themselves as politicians…look around and see. From gemayel to the freak aoun to Hassan Nassrallah to jumbi; berri…etc etc!!

Get over your illusion that a nation ever existed. It was and will always be a mish mash of patch up sects and communities!…basically a WAY station. Soon it will be levelled to the ground! Unless you are living in your fantasy land (BTW Lebanese are great at that. they close their eyes and hope all will go away); the lifespan of the sliver called Lebanon is 6 months to a year! The new parking lot is coming soon. GET THE HELL OUTTA there b4 it collapses on your collective heads! In a perverted way I am so happy that civil war happened then so that I could grow up in a civilized nation away from hell!

we all owe a lot to those heroes who gave their live for our safety and to save the lebanese identity of this country while others spent their time chez torino and tico tico.
maybe this resistance was not exemplery but we should not forget that it was built from the chaos, and the absence of the army “as usual” play the main role why many things went wrong.
i am sure that IF kataeb and ouwet won the war , the barkers were today very rare, and hit each other only to carry a LF flag.

It’s a huge shame to hear what you’re saying. Seriously speaking, I wish to hear your father and grandfather speak of the days when Christian areas were being bombed the fuck out of and people like the martyrs in the picture were out in the wild defending to save their sorry asses. You speak of the battles they lost, speak of those they won, those they defended having nothing but a bullet and a shotgun, those they were able to stand up to when the world was against them. I wish you had not call yourself Maronite today but proudly call yourself Maronite “back in the days” where you would be slaughtered by the thought of saying it. I recommend you leave this country and keep your disgusting thoughts away from here.

  • 27. Reminder | February 9th, 2010 at 9:11 am

    anonymous,

yes we did, ma tensa pls what happnened in 1958… there were no palestinians fighting the christians or anything! it was cammile chamoun’s oppressive policies against the muslims that pushed us there! pushed us to 1958! and it took the General of the Lebanese Army Fuad Chehab to calm things down.. pls pls pls ma tenso..

as for these ppl defending me, ya habibe if they loved the christians and were really against the palestinians ect.. why the f*ck did they sign the Cairo agreement in 1969? why didnt they oppose it like Raymond Edde? Why did they oppose Fuad Chehab who cleaned up THEIR mess of 1958?the maronite leaders were a bunch of selfish greedy sociopaths!

    Alyssa
favorite president? REALLY? that oppressive racist buffoon? it was his policies that caused the war of 1958! and it was THE best president lebanon has seen Fuad Chehab who cleaned up his mess! Chamoun was the second worst president after Amine Gemayyel!

  • 28. Alyssa | February 9th, 2010 at 12:32 pm

    Opressive policies? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

You cannot blame christians for many Muslims putting the interests of another cause for over their own country or turning their back on their fellow countrymen in the name of the UMMA or fucking arab nationalism.Or blame us for fighting back
when our existance was at threat by Leftists,Moslems who turned against and a bunch of refugees. You should be ashamed of yourself.
    What happened in 1958 reminder…

was Gamal Adel Nasser incited the moslems (the sunnis mainly who have longed had a love affair with arabism) to rebel against Christians in govemrent because Camille Chamoun had pro-western policies and wanted Lebanon to take a neutral stance regarding the Arab-Israel conflict. You should also be aware that Nasser would post leaflets in the Moslem areas calling Lebanon a Country and inciting greivence towards Christians. Also Chamoun refused to join the Arab republic.
The muslims didnt want this epesically snakes like Karami who wanted lebanon to ”fight for Palestine” at our own expense and who were Arabs first and Lebanese 2nd.

Actually in 1958 it was Chamoun requesting the
Americans intervene that calmed things down.
Thank god he did! arab nationalist bastards lost that one!

Do you even know the exact name that signed the agreements or who requested it? well in 1969 btw under Gamal Abdel Nasser demands, was an action many Naively thought would appease the Muslim demands to take a more active role in this whole arab cause bullshit. The reason Lebanon had to sign it in 1969 was the Palestinians and their sunni muslim allies would constantly attack the Army in South and cause problems there also they would attack the israelis and we would recieved the repercussion. the army couldnt take it anymore.
More palestinians came in 67 but this time they were armed and in 1970 when that terrorist thug group PLO made lebanon there main base well…
The main signtures who made the document valid was actually the then President of the time and the General anyone else was just for show. It was actually Karami who demanded Lebanon sign that document.

Explain to me why Chamoun was a racist? during his rule Lebanon didnt appease the arab racism shit and even had the highest porportion of Jews in the Arabic-speaking world, who lived FREELY.

in that time , the NATION of ISLAM decided to EMILINATE christinas from this piece of the world .( some idiots called themselves leftist , communists ..etc participated in this endeavor )
the Mufti said : the palestinaian PLo is the ISLAMIC Army and karame done hsi best to DIVIDE the ARMy which was neutaralized .
YES ,the only mistake christains DId was to accept living with their ennemies ..

    ..i said ELIMINATE CHRISTIANS from this M . E ..

  • 32. fad14 | February 9th, 2010 at 3:41 pm

I am not defending the Muslims or the Christians. But history is simple on that front.

“Christian leaders” wanted to keep power for themselves as they are the majority, hypocritically, now they are the minority and I am sure they will not accept what they pushed on the muslims and they are asking for 1/2 only.

Keeping the people on the side, as I have no problem to be ruled by a parliament of ONLY Christians or ONLY Muslims, but only based on their credentials and qualification, Our so called “LEADERS” had issues.

Camille Chamoun and Pierre Gmayel and Bchara EL Khoury, felt they are superior and wanted to keep power to themselves. Read Alnahar archives to get the facts.

They pushed other Christians and the Muslims into “Betrayal”

Sarcastically, the Muslims along with the Palestinians by 1982 pushed the Christians to “Betrayal”

And now Hizbulla/Aoun is doing the same thing.

For once stop showing off with your past and build for the future, your past as Christians (Leaders and not people) is as dirty as the sewage. The same applies to Muslims.

And now the dirt is very obvious to everyone.

Again you can show off with a a photo like the one posted above, I pity those who died on both sides. It was a fight to steal the contents of banks and hotels and not to defend honor and religion.

  • 33. Alyssa | February 9th, 2010 at 4:10 pm

Fad14, You are blantantly defending what Moslems and Leftists did by siding with Arab nationalists like Nasser to Arafat as if it were a necessity. How is pressuring christians to Sign Cairo in 1969 a necessity for Muslims? or helping the Palestinians burn Lebanon? or attacking the Army in South Lebanon with PLO? or helping the PLO use Lebanon as a battlefield to fight Israel? This is not the actions of a desparate people only those who side over a nation they care more for than their own.
Any thing we have ever done we did for LEBANON
and yes our SURVIVAL as a minority in the region, that is why christians wanted to keep power, not out of greed or a superiority complex but because we all know our fate if we were to be under Moslem dominated goverment, taef only weakening our
community and turned our leaders into Poltical dhimmis, especially when the most sectarianist Lebanese Politicians are the Moslems (sorry but this a fact) the ones who talk this crap about abolishing the sectarian system like Nabih Berri does is a cheap cover to take away MORE power from christians .( just look at christian brethen neighbours to understand that as undeniable proof, what living under a moslem-dominated goverment is like) did you hear about the Nag Hammadi massacre in Egypt? but being proud Christians makes us facists or racists if dont want to appease
we CARE for Lebanon only not Arabism not Palestine not Jeruslam not Arab cause or UMMA only Lebanon. That is what any patritoic lebanese wants regardless religion infact the Guardians had many moslem members in it was perhaps the only real Secular movement lebanon ever had

god bless Camille Chamoun! he makes me proud to be from Deir el Qamar w chouf! (sadly no longer living there) and when I think of time of Chamoun to compared to the shit christians are left with today as ”leaders” its enough to bring a person to tears! so sad how little we have progressed and what idiots who we allowed to get into parliment.

also to all those who are calling chamoun racist if your reffering to the Palestinians you should get your facts right because Chamoun even said in English we are asking the palestinians if they are to stay in Lebanon, STAY QUIET in Lebanon, you can stay in Lebanon but please stay quiet.

Alyssa stop taking sides, you must decide are you a Christian or a Lebanese?
Are you a Muslim or Lebanese.

If the majority are Christians and the want to merge with Cyprus and Europe, well its called “democracy” for a reason.
If they majority are Muslims and they want to merge with Iran, its called “democracy”.

If you can’t tolerate democracy, we have the example of Syria, An Alawite is ruling the Sunnis with his boot. Is this what you want to happen here.
Let the people decide democratically or else …

  • 48. Alyssa | February 9th, 2010 at 11:20 pm

I am a Lebanese Christian and I wont be apologetic for my faith or have my patriotism questioned
I dont want Lebanon to be part of Europe I dont want to be part of the Arab or islamic world either I am not European and Never will be,any Lebanese who say they are have an identity crisis
I am not Arab and never will be any Lebanese whose says they are usually has an inferiority complex with arabs

to me Lebanon is like Turkey (in the regional sense) , Malta and Cyprus. This poison that is called Arabism that has destroyed Lebanon and sadly many muslims take it too far and put it before
Lebanon can only be a secular country when the arab label is taken off and people Learn not to be Lebanese only not Arab.
Even Jumblatt (who is of kurdish roots) said being Lebanese and druze to him is nothing and meaningless, only Arab is more important and he is Arab first. God curse Arab nationalism the filthy ideology That has only aimed to destroy Christians in Lebanon starting with that racist facist Nasser, and Palestinian terror groups then Baathists

  • 49. Alyssa | February 9th, 2010 at 11:25 pm

    sorry mistake
    * Learn to be Lebanese ONLY and not arab

  • 50. avi | February 9th, 2010 at 11:34 pm

Alyssa the druze people come from Persia ……

The Druze faith began as a movement in Ismailism that was mainly influenced by Greek philosophy and gnosticism and opposed certain religious and philosophical ideologies that were present during that epoch.

The faith was founded by Hamza ibn ‘Alī ibn Ahmad, a Persian Ismaili mystic and scholar. He came to Egypt in 1014 and assembled a group of scholars and leaders from across the Islamic world to form a new Unitarian movement. The order’s meetings were held in the Raydan Mosque, near the Al-Hakim Mosque.[19]

In 1017, Hamza officially revealed the Druze faith and began to preach his doctrine. Hamza gained the support of the Fātimid Caliph al-Hakim, who issued a decree promoting religious freedom prior to the declaration of the divine call.

As much as i enjoy reading you and I hate to rectify this ,Lebanon is not the only country to have druze people in it.As for the Arab buisness Alyssa ,Lebanon just like Israel were once conquered by them and the Maronites have survived only because they knew how to make them selves small in the cruel Muslim world that Lebanon is part of and has submitted to the point of being the main point of friction in Arab Israeli conflict….But unlike Maronites ,the Hebrews have not submitted or even embraced their language and culture so we find ourselves eternally in a spiral war ……..But still I prefer not to be an Arab or a Dhimmi or a persecuted minority ,and Alyssa the cost is huge.

    Avi,

I am aware the Druze people are ethno-religious group I am come from Chouf which is a druze heartland and I know many druze i have nothing against them they arent bad people but they have bad leaders and are led by a snake.
Jumblatt is a Charismatic but coniving man who along with his for-fathers has a blood feud with Maronites and Chrsitians that goes back centuries. (that is another story)
Walid Jumblatt and the Jumblatt family are of Kurdish origins everyone in Lebanon knows this but Walid Jumblatt has always been a Pan-Arabists and Arab nationalist he states firmly himself It is why he allied with Arafat and the PLO and is why he didnt care when the Syrians were occupying and opressing Lebanon, last year in Al-Jazeera he said exactly what I stated on how being Lebanese and Druze means nothing to him only Arab is important and meaningful

Avi, it is not just maronites most Christians in Lebanon are against Arabism and think its nothing but a Cheap cover for Islamism including the other sects like Orthodox,Melkite,Latin, etc I should know Im married to an Orthodox christian and my kids are Orthodox which is ironic because until the 1950s many Orthodox were had favourable views of it but then they realized what it really meant.

I agree with you on that Alyssa and thanks for the clarifications….The Druze in my country the one with the calling code -972 (and I also lived once near the druze populated areas too in my country a city called Haifa )anyways they see him as a traitor and will never follow him no matter what he thinks.

    Alyssa,
if you want to close your eyes to ignore the facts, they will still happen but you won’t see them until its too late to react.

Muslims are increasing in Lebanon, Christians aren’t.
Try to find a good way to live in a Muslim dominated world and country, and find an equation that gives you your rights based on your qualifications and not your religion.

Its a fact, unless you create a pill that reverses the population.

    Max,

remember the genealogist who appeared on kalem el ness after conducting a thorough research on the heritage of the lebanese ppl? his work was excellent and I beleive accurate..i forgot his exact results but i remember that it was something like this:

    30% Phoenician
    25% Arab
    18% Greek

The rest was a mix between other european and north and east african…

  • 59. Alyssa | February 10th, 2010 at 9:58 am

”Muslims are increasing in Lebanon, Christians aren’t.
Try to find a good way to live in a Muslim dominated world”

There is no good way, I am sorry but historically & presently speaking its impossible unless you accept being 2nd class citizens.
I dont want to live in a Muslim dominated world,
I would rather die infact I would rather migrate (something I deeply dont want to do) and take my family & children with me and leave Lebanon forever than ever except to live under Islamic rule or Dhimmitude. Our ancestors knew the bane of this.
because lets face it hun there is no dignified way to live in a Muslim dominated world freely, You just need OPEN YOUR EYES and see that for yourself.
Did you hear about what happened this christmas
to copts in Nag Hammadi, all because moslems (THINK) not prove that a Chrsitian man raped a moslem girl who even neighbours say her only
family probaly molested her. What happens?
many moslems use this as an excuse to set a Christian neighbourhood ablaze and murder several christians, similar happend in
the West bank in a town called tayeb (note the ONLY christian village left in the west bank) when moslems suspected a Christian man having a affair with a moslem woman they set homes there and churches ablaze over that too. this is what ”living under a muslim world dominated means”.
If this is what you want for Christians in Lebanon than shame on you!

ass Kissing dictators to live in Secularism isnt dignified eitehr like the ones in Syria have.
Or having to hide in isolation in the mountains like the ones in iran do.
Most Lebanese Citizens abroad and expats are christian and you wait 2013 there voices will be heard. everyone talks this shit about palestinians right of return What about Lebanese Christians right of return to their country?
Christians should be urged to return to Lebanon and encouraged to do so for the sake of our survival.

Stop the scare tatics they dont work on me.

    Reminder

    Lebanon was a rich country?

When Camille Chamoun became the president in 1952, he ruled a country who had 3 millions in its Khazeeni, after 6 years he gave the shi7ed who was afraid to go to the toilet not to feel hungry again “fouad shehab” a country with 300 millions in its khazeeni after he made the law of SIRRIYIT EL MASARIF.

No president had the relations that Camille Chamoun had, and just to remind you, they used to call Camille Chamoun ” fata el 3ourouba el aghar” because he was the first arab Christian President and leader to talk about the case of the Palestinians even before he became the President.

Go bye the book AKHIR EL 3AMALIKA for Ghassan Toueni, and be proud to have had a president called Camille Chamoun.
This country ya Reminder can never be ruled by a military person and we all know the experince from Fouad shehab to Michel aoun then Emile Lahous and khitamouha misk with al film el samit ” michel sleiman”.

Alyssa, I agree a Muslim ruled country is a hard pill to swallow even for us Muslims.

This is why i hope Christians and moderate Muslims of this country can create a proper setup to live in.

I hope finally you understand what i am trying to say. Even Muslims can’t live in a place like Egypt or Saudi. Moderate Christians and Muslims are the only hope for this country.

FYI i lived in East Beirut during the war, being a Muslim in a Christian dominated area wasn’t really easy, even with Uncles in LF.

  • 65. Alyssa | February 10th, 2010 at 7:34 pm

Fad14, i am sorry to hear that, i understand tho
during the war my family had to move to Kuwait then Africa because of the mountain war for several years. I hated Kuwait awful place awful people I missed Lebanon.
please understand i do not say what I do out of hatred for muslims (1/4 of my relatives are shiites) but facts are facts. even you admit living under muslim dominance is bad for minorities and even muslims. I want to live in freedom and dignity as a Christian and Lebanese. The problem isnt really the system or numbers its just some christians wanting to sit back and do nothing rather than strenghten our community.

The only system that I could see work in Lebanon in form of secularism that unites Christians and Muslim is abolishing Arabist politics (i.e fuck off to saudi arabia and the arab world) also many muslims need to decide whether they are arabs or Lebanese and palestine isnt our problem. the pale stinians need to go away then everyone needs to stop pretending as if Syria hasnt done any wrong here enough with this ‘’sisterly” nation crap until they apologize and release our prisoners.
Lebanon first,Lebanon Only. Hariri is a liar he cares for Arab first not Lebanon.
We need to learn to build a closer relationship other neighbours (non arab ones). Also the charter that Guardians proposed is perhaps the best hope Lebanon has of National unity.
Guardians in my opinion were perhaps the only non-sectarian party Lebanon ever had.
