A moment of silence ..
Posted by N10452The past few days witnessed the death of more than 40 people, among them militia men but also innocent civilians whose only fault was to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.
They witnessed as well the brutal invasion of a terrorist militia by the name of Hezbollah, supposebly fighting Israel ( In Hamra streets ?).
Never in any country’s history, a militia was capable of imposing its will for long on a people ..
Never in any country’s history, a militia was capable to survive long without disarming ..
The government stepped back yesterday avoiding us a war, but Hezbollah committed a sin and used its weapons against other Lebanese, the army committed a bigger sin by letting him invade Beirut ..
The prime minister urged the Lebanese to observe a minute of silence at 12 noon Sunday for the souls of those killed during the clashes between pro- and anti-government forces, stressing that participants should raise Lebanese flags. ( from Naharnet)
I will not raise any flag, nor believe in this damn country, before i see a capable government and a strong army protecting me and my people. I just feel bad for all those innocent people dying in vain …

Yes N,
We do feel so bad, not only for all those innocent people dying in vain, but also for our martyrs, for our parents and friends, for our future and the future of our kids, for our institutions, for our Lebanon, the Lebanon we were looking and hoping for.
12 Lebanese officers have resigned yesterday, from the rank of Colonel and above, among them 3 senior Intelligence officers. They were all Sunnis and Christians.
Any comment on this topic??
3. Tarek | May 11th, 2008 at 11:56 am
I think the army should be dissolved and every region should have it own army. People sent their sons to the army so they watch their parent being slaughtered. The army is a partner in all the murders that happened.

YA N 10452, the minute of silence shoud be for the death of the government, with all my respect for this position, but i think the government should resign as soon as possible, if the government will retreat about the two decisions they took officially, and as it is obvious the army is putting pressure on the government and not taking officially the decisions of this government, and after the back up of Jumblat and the surrender of tayyar el mostaqbal, i ‘m sure they have to resign,or else they r responsible for all the people who died in this. YOU either should take a decicion wisely and fully convinced and take it to the end,or else never take it from the beginning. BREF: if the government will retreat its decisions then for my opinion she will be responsible for the death of the people in the streets.

Elie,
Yeslamle chou zake! The government resign ya hmar!
N, I agree no flag anymore…The Lebanese Army? School fro free and Benzine for free and hospital for free and when we need them the stay home. Shame on them, look at the website of the Lebanese Army…They still love Syria and Hezbollah.
It’s wrong to call Hezbollah Resistance and It’s worng to have Sleiman as president. Sleiman is a brother in Law of the Assad Spokesman Ya 3Ammi….
8. chris_b | May 11th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
Tarek. What you r saying is better implemented if Lebanon becomes a Federal State. Than HA will ban alcohol, ban tourism, taking photos in streets, etc… and run their state as they will while the rest of lebanon lives as they want. One thing will stay in comon is the foreign policy. This will save us lots of headaches. Otherwise, a bigger wave of immgration from lebanon will take place within5 to 10 years until they (shiites) become majority.
9. Tarek | May 11th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
Well yesterday in Kalam il nass, a call from one of the guys in “jama3a islamieh”, he was 3amar I think, cought my attention. He said the most important conclusion from what happened is that each party should make its own army since it was shown that the army will not protect anyone, then he mentioned three incidents that happened that shows how the army is 100% useless. I don’t care what would have happened if the army interfered, but by not interfering he is forcing people to arm themselves and this will be the end of Lebanon. So if anything happened in Lebanon it would be because of that. Too bad that there is no way things can be fixed. No one can really trust the army anymore and the country is on its path to deteriorating.

yesterday, some on on this blog said that aoun’s support of hizbollah prevented the attack on christians.
after the shouf, and that is a question, what if, the SSNP. the marada and FPM (although i doubt FPM) will do the same in the christian areas?
hezbollah used heavy artillary in his fights with PSP. if he had nukes, he would have used them.
are there army units in the christian areas or they will move in after hezbollah attacks?
one thing LF :D, and with all repsect i am saying this. you seem to be euphoric coz this is happening and people are dying. i just hope, sincerely, that this never happens to you or anyone you know.
watching it on tv is something, and hearing a stray bullet buzzing right past you is something else.
you should be sad. very sad, and sorry for all what is happening and all what you’ve said.
18. Tony | May 11th, 2008 at 4:38 pm
Hizbollah are no good terrorist i still cant believe someone aouniyoun are saying still his real weapons aint bin used so hes mouqawamet weapons are still not for against lebanese.
Well i ask them are you that blind?

the strategy is very obvious
they controled west beirut and deliverd it to the ssnp now bel jabal they are two steps to control it and hizb will give it to irslan and wahhab then the final stage is the christian region, i think hizball will attack it to brake the lf and deliver it to aoun

So what if HA starts a clash in the Christian region, what will happen?? they will ask the LF to hand their weapons to the FPMers, the same way it happened in the mountain where PSP handed their weapons to Arslan??
NO, I don’t think so, they will see something different there.

N,
It seems the lebanese-forces.com website has been hacked and put down. In this critical moment of our country history, and in order to keep all the worlwide lebanese diaspora connected to what is going on, I would like to propose that your sites contribute to the “resistance” and consider putting aside the differences with the LF leaders and hopefully cooperate together to enable the voice of the LF reach us through your websites.
Thanks in advance.

Shame on General Sleiman and the Army, shame on Siniora and his administration, and shame on our March 14 leaders.
Why doesn’t the army remove the roadblocks in Beirut? Why don’t they go to the road to the Rafik Hariri airport and REMOVE THE BLOCK and FORCEFULLY CONFRONT anyone who tries to stop them?
Now that things have settled down some, this is the Army’s chance to FORCEFULLY CONFRONT the opposition anywhere and everywhere they try to re-establish themselves in the way they did the other day.
Our March 14 leaders should make this clear and give the government and the Army a mandate to suppress all renewed escalations by force and to remove the blocks, or at least protect us while WE remove the blocks.
Our patience and our support of General Sleiman is running on THIN ice. We need to be stronger than this. Give the government and the army this mandate, and if they refuse to fulfill their duty to the Lebanese people, then REVOKE our support of General Sleiman as presidential candidate, and throw our support behind someone like Butros Harb (for example).
Also, the government should not revoke either of its decisions. If the Army refuses to implement the decisions, then Siniora can put together a security force under his authority and have them implement the decisions while the Army protects them.
Shame on the Army for not securing Beirut. It’s the Army’s duty and we want guarantees from the Army that they will never let this happen again. Meanwhile we need to be prepared that if they’re going to do it again, Mustaqbal was patient the first time but will put a stop to it if it happens a second time.
Finally, we should not miss this opportunity to have a general call for Hezbollah to disarm. We can put nation-wide pressure on Hezbollah to disarm themselves, and at the same time we can take decisions like this: instead of going and taking their weapons from them, just TAKE CONTROL of the airport and the borders and the transportation system (the roads, the bridges), etc. and prevent the transfer of weapons to Hezbollah from Iran/Syria. And if we see any weapons above the Litani, the Army should confront them. This way, they will have the weapons they have but their weapons will not increase. Gemayel seems to be onboard with this, France seems to be on board now. We should not miss this opportunity to disarm them!!
26. Patrick | May 11th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
On second thought, maybe HA is trying to provoke the Army to respond so they can withdraw their support of Sleiman. And maybe it’s smart to wait to confront HA with the Army til after Sleiman is elected president.
What do you think?
27. Patrick | May 11th, 2008 at 6:16 pm
I hear everyone saying we should withdraw our support for Sleiman and attack the performance of the army… as you can see, I’m divided. I’m really not sure. I’d like to hear more from N and others on General Sleiman, on the performance of the Army, etc… and the resignation of so many Sunni and Christian officers from the army should be discussed too… and why greater numbers of Sunni and Christians are not signing up.
