Weird ..

I was very hesitant in posting that picture, because i dont want people to take it the wrong way.
I am in no way disrespecting any religion here, i am just really curious to know why is this sayde called that day.

I expect serious replies please, and any mocking will be deleted.

here it is guys, it is like i thought, there are many others .. its basically how they named StMary that stayed with them since their birth till they die .. probably to bless the breast feeded babies …

Its a very old naming ..

i come from achrafieh but we used to stay in the village in beitchabeb especially when our city was bombarded by Aouns thugs and the stroy goes is that we used to hide in “saydet el bzez” in beitchabeb..
the story is that when women are pregnant or having problems with feeding their infants or not being able to get a child they usually pray in this church and do a “neder” this church is very sacred and such churches are still present in Italy, Spain and south america and too rare in France… it is more catholic than protestant.. the name is a bit weird and harsh but the word comes from french catholics meaning La Sainte nourrisiere”..

I hope the info is enough..
God protect you all and kezballah one message to you from a true lf christian:

“He who has not known ME (jesus in case you are wondering) will never see God”

  • 14. PAULETTE | August 15th, 2008 at 8:19 pm

FIRST OF ALL, THE MIRACLLES TOLD ABOUT HERE ARE VERY TRUE.AND THEY ARE THE SOURCE OF THE NAME.
    SECOND WHY DOES THIS MAKE U WONDER OR LAUGH AREN’T THE BZEZ A NATURAL ORGAN IN MEN’S AND WOMEN’S BODY,LIKE 2IDEN W2EJREN W ETC…ETC…SO WHY LAUGHING OR WONDERDING , I DON’T UNDERSTAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 15. kezballah | August 15th, 2008 at 10:01 pm

PAULETTE if it was not strange or funny then every day you will see a street sign or store name from body parts, you can imagine it I will not try examples ;-)

I repeat I don’t mean any disrespect to the religion symbol, but for me also laughing is sacred :-) I think paul understands :-)

In other places, they call it “saydit el dirra” or “saydit el halib”, which as many readers suggested helps women with no breast milk. Today it sounds funnier than in the past, but you need to understand that less than 50 years ago, a woman with no milk meant a high chance for the baby to die. As you may know babies cannot be drinking water or cow milk, so this was a survival issue. Sometimes they had to give the baby to another woman in town who has excess breast milk. Consider that over 10% of women do not produce milk after they give birth which meant a 10% additional mortality rate.
This being said, I still find it hilarious in a situation when something happens and instead of saying “ya 3adra”, you say “Ya saydit el bzez”, which technically is right but sounds bad :-)

Bzez may not be the word, but Bazzaz.
    It’s a job’s name in ‘Literary Arabic’:
    http://qamoos.sakhr.com/idrisidic_1.asp?Sentence=%C8%D2%C7%D2

They use it in Iraq with a slightly different meaning: seller/dealer of women garments.

I hope this will be of help.

  • 18. PAULETTE | August 16th, 2008 at 7:40 pm

    KEZBALLA.
FIRST OF ALL IT IS NOT A NAME OF A STREET IT IS ONLY THE NAME OF THE GROTT.
SECOND,U CAN LAUGH AS U WISH NO ONE IS KEEPING U FROM DOING IT.IT ONLY SHOWS WHO U ARE.
THIRD ,THIS GROTT HAS THIS NAME SINCE AT LEAST 75 YEARS,AND NO ONE DID NAME ANYTHING ELSE WITH A NAME ALIKE BECAUSE IT HOLDS A VERY RELIGIOUS MEANING,AND YES IF THERE WAS A PLACE WERE VIRGIN MARY CURED LEGS, FOR EXAMPLE,WHY NOT CALLING IT SAYDIT EL 2EJREN.MICH 2A7SAN MIN BEER HASSAN?OR BIR-EL-3ABED?OR WHAT DO U THINK?

  • 19. kezballah | August 17th, 2008 at 12:36 am

PAULETTE that is great my comment make you give more useful information about the name, that is the point of this topic.

It will be also great if you don’t get upset when you see someone laugh, in Lebanon we need to laugh every possible time.

    Take care :-)

I heard abt it years ago, when i was visiting a friend in Beit Chabeb, n it is actually regarding women who have a problem breast feeding their babies…

At 1st, i found it horrible but then i thought it was cool…

  • 21. PAULETTE | August 17th, 2008 at 9:45 pm

IF YOU THINK YA KEZBALLAH THAT YOU ARE UPSETTING ME,SO YOU REALLY THINK THAT YOU ARE SOMETHING BIG.AND I TELL YOU NOW THAT YOU DIDN’T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING OF WHAT I SAID BECAUSE YOU WERE SO BUSY WITH LAUGHING. NO MY FRIEND WE DON’T NEED TO LAUGH A LOT WE ONLY NEED TO PRAY A LOT.MAY SAYDET LE BZEZ ENLIGHTEN YOUR MIND.
    TAKE CARE..

  • 22. kezballah | August 17th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
