with all due respect, i don’t see the difference between this man and my angel of a grandmother, who is just as much a saint as any other.

sometimes i feel like i know too many people who pray to saints, not enough people who pray to god.

and i’m saying that as a christian.

frankly, i don’t see even one example anywhere in the new testament of a christian asking another christian *who has already died and gone to be with god* to pray for us.

we see, for example, yaqub the “brother” of the lord encouraging us to pray for one another, but we don’t see one example of what is called today “the invocation of the saints.” not even in the writings of the church fathers; not, at least, for another few hundred years.

moreover, every time paul or peter (for example) refers to the “saints” in the new testament, they are referring to believing christians in general, including you and me who don’t always live the way we should, because when god sees us, he doesn’t see our sins, he sees yesua3.

    did i miss something?

am i the only one who feels like this?

i’m sure the man lived a generally good life and a lot of people looked up to him, and that it’s a fine thing if people want to look to his life as a good example for the rest of us… but this whole business of making him a “saint” as if he is somehow above the rest of us, or someone we should call on when we are in need of help, i think just distracts us from christ.

anyway, not trying to preach here, just wondering if anyone feels the same…

Patrick,in a country like Lebanon where the failure of politicians has become a normality, people try to contact the saints.whether these are really sacred, is a personal decision. the faith was and remains a medicine for the soul and the people try through the saints to find the way to jesus,it is clear we should only pray for jesus but there are also many people who think that is not enough.

Just out of curiosity, how come Aoun is the only one who did not attend the beatification of Abouna Yaacoub?

One must wonder, how real does Aoun represent the christians?

Unless Aoun thinks that he should as well be “beatificated” ;)
