Did the Opposition achieve anything yet ? Is it on the right track ?
To be honest, it is very hard to judge since both sides are coming out strong in their statements and both are scoring points. While the opposition is looking strong by organizing demonstrations almost on a daily basis, 14th of march is looking strong by being indifferent to demonstrations and moving on with their political and economical plans & reforms.
The international tribunal was approved, the economic reform paper was approved, PM.Sanioura is preparing for Paris3 while Hezbollah and its allies are preparing for new demonstrations.
The government is still exposed to new assasinations unfortunatelly which could put an end to its legitimacy.
What is Hezbollah cooking ?
This armed group is not used to peaceful demonstrations and tents and sitins, and all this anti-government movement is very new for him, and i believe Hezbollah is commiting mistakes by trying to “copy” the 14th of march actions that resulted in the resignation of Karame and the withdrawal of the Syrian troops.
14th of march was a historical day but if the international community didnt want Syrians out, mainly the Americans, it would have taken us months if not years to get them out, same for the international tribunal, same for Paris3 etc etc ..
When 14th of march demonstrated against Lahoud, it failed and The Opposition didnt learn from that mistake but failed as well when trying to topple Sanioura.
Plan B was through sit-ins in front of ministries, this failed big time as well and all sorts of petitions were meaningless. Hezbollah found itself cornered and will most probably come back to initiating violence and causing riots, the only way left.
I dont know if such violent acts will lead The Opposition anywhere, but Sanioura’s government is not resigning but on the contrary, is acting as if the opposition is unexistant. The only way to topple it is by force, since everything else failed.
What will The Opposition do ?
20th of January will show the true intentions behind Hezbollah’s moves, it will show if he cornered himself and has to refer to violence to avoid a shameful loss, or is still determined to topple the government anyway possible and was gaining time in the past few weeks to prepare for a decisive and final strike.
