Proposing a way out …
Posted by N10452I have been advocating Federalism for years now, and i still believe that it is the ultimate solution for our crisis as LEBANESE, i repeat as LEBANESE and not just Christians.
However, we evolved since the 1990s and The federal plan LF proposed back then can be enhanced in a way to satisfy the current situation. This does not mean The Original one cant work right now, but it is harder to implement that the current one am about to propose.
The debate i was having earlier today in the Edward said thread made me think of a way out, inspired from the writings of Dr.Antoine Najm.
We have people from all sects and nationalities on this forum, but most importantly we have people from non-Christian sects, Shiites mainly & Sunnites who disagree with the way their political parties think and are very far from religious fanatism.
What should have been done after March 14 was regrouping all those moderate educated individuals who rose above the standards set by the rotten politician and political parties and are willing to build a new Lebanon hand in hand with their fellow Lebanese.
I will take for example a non-Christian ( Shiite) friend i happened to know fairly well, and with whom i debated a lot on several issues, Orchid.
We happen to agree with most of the issues we raise, even though we come from different backgrounds and religions. She represents a minority in her community but there is not a proper context from which she can express herself ( her and many others) Lebanon-wise.
What we need is a common platform launched by a group of young committed Lebanese from all sects, a sort of federal-based group where all issues will be discussed and solved.
Such groups will expose the problems as they truly are btw the sects and encourage the talks btw all Lebanese and forge the concept of respecting the other and cooperating with him ..
There are too many misunderstandings that will only cause further tensions as spotted in that edward said thread and many others.
Such federal-based diverse groups can evolve into organized parties which can pave the way for a truly democratic pluralistic system which can soon evolve into a secular one by implementing secular approaches in those groups.

And what do you suggest about the 80% of none moderate nor educated individuals from all religions who cannot even understand the meaning of democracy or federalism ? , our problem is we are living in a very bad neighbourhood the only way to survive is to be united first as christian as(a minority)and then maybe we can debate and negociate with the other lebanese ,if not unfortunately we are in lose lose situation, remember taef.
anyway your way out “federalism” is the only civilized way to protect the freedom of a minority .

It seems like N10452 has completely forgot that we’re living fideraliye ta2ifiye at its best in Lebanon!!! Right ? Federalism is not the way out of this.
3. fefe | December 6th, 2007 at 9:56 am
Well, shiites, sunnis, and christians by and large govern themselves. So, federalism is somewhat in existence. The problem is that in successful federalist styled governments the people still have a sense of a nationality.
That doesn’t really exist in Lebanon.
This is why its ridiculous to think an issue like Hezbollahs weapons will be settled by having a government. not represented by the major shiite party, demand they dismantle. It might as well be one country demanding another not to have a military.
The only two solutions I see are dividing the place up among sunni, shiite, and christians. The other is to have a strong man forcefully keep everyone together.
4. fad14 | December 6th, 2007 at 11:12 am
The problem is between the Christians and who will lead them, why divide the rest of the country as a solution ???
Do you think in a Christians only state, Aoun will accept Geagea to be his leader ???? or vice Versa ???
in late 80s Shiaa were killing each other for the same story, who will lead their area ???
for Once I agree with Ali, the problem is that people let their leaders play them like toys, and the best way to get support is say that the Sect is in danger.
Michel Aoun: says Christians are getting weaker so he can get more supporters.
Nasrallah tell shiaa that they will lose their land unless they stand behind him and the story goes on.
Just tell us for once ya N10452 How Will you contain Aoun and unite the Christians ???

N10452,
Federalisme , tres bonne idee !!!

Gary,
I’m one of the 80% as you said in your message.
I’m not educated and need your assistance to understand the meaning of democracy and federalism. Can you please expalain what is the democracy ? Please coorect me if I’m wrong, if 80% as you said in your message do not want the federalism because they are not educated, so only 20% are with the federalism ? So the meaning of the democracy is to follow the 20% reject the 80% ? Ouaouhh …
Then according to you our problem as christians is that we are living in a very bad neighbourhood ? What is for you bad neighbourhood ? and why the other don’t live near a bad neighbourhood ?
7. Danny | December 6th, 2007 at 1:45 pm
There was a cruel line regarding Russians…That they cannot live in democracy NOT that they are not educated. The same cruel line was used(is still being used) for the Iraqi people…That they needed someone like Saddam to keep them in line and that they do not know how to be free and breathe on their own.
In conclusion, “reader”, and other philosophers and like minded souls, have your own way. Live in shit BUT YOUR OWN WAY!!!!
Education never made people SMARTER…Have an orange, you lack vitamin C!
8. reader | December 6th, 2007 at 3:51 pm
Danny,

I pity you and your soulmates. You think by throwing around a few words makes you smart. Peace? you are so hassoneh/orangette that you cannot see anything past your nose.Always bring in the americans. Wake up before you perish yourselves…you can keep that banana as you might need the potassium!!
You are beyond help…

Sorry for offending some people in what i have to say, but the only way out is to have a new Lebanon without the following:
1- Syria (meaning any Syrian influence or intervention at any level and in any way)
2- Israel (by stoppin its air and land violations as well as its influence and pressure and terror)
3- Iran (meaning any Iranian influence and stopping the sending of weapons and money, and if necessary extradicting its ambassador in Lebanon and all the Diplomats, closing the embassy)
4- Michel Aoun (sending him back to France or Tehran, or put him in Prison, or just wishing for him to vanish)
5- Hassan Nasrallah (sending him and his people to Tehran or Israel)
6- Nabih Berri (put him in Prison)
7- Sleiman Frangieh (also in prison)
8- All the other Bramil el Kh***, especially both Wahhab and Kandil and all the syrian agents (we need big prisons, so better to execute them)
9- Palestinian weapons (even they stay without their weapons or maybe we can send them somewhere else)
10- In my opinion, cancelling all kind of politic sectarian, because for me as Maronite, i didn’t benefit from any Maronite President in the last 18 years, so i prefer to have a Kurd in this position who can work hards and straight for Lebanon, instead of a Syrian agent or a crook, or a mad one, or a gay etc… that can never do anything good for Christians, for Maronites, or for Lebanese (Lahoud and Hrawi are the best examples — Michel Aoun is a better example indeed)
You will say to me keep on dreaming. Of course i am, and i think it’s the only this left for us in Lebanon to stay happy, the ability to dream and think of “la vie en rose”, it’s the only thing they let us do, dream, or else maybe they will take that aways from us in the future, on the basis of “enta ma te7lam, ne7na mni7lam 3annak”.
My dear friends, when and if all that happened, any political system will do and we can agree on between us.

Rodge
Ouf, ouf, ouf.. Are you ok today? Ignoring the situation does not make it go away. Also , keep on dreaming does not achieve any reality .
Our lebanese leaders need to sit on one ROUND table and discus their prbs on their own ( face to face ) . Once all options are on the table , you will need to eleminate those that will not lead to DESIRED results and SETTLE the most appropriate ones. Unfortunately , the 14th of march are not politicaly wise enough to discus issues the crisis face to face. In fact , they have to double check every little detail with their foreign masters here and there , and this is why our dialogue hits the wall every time we try to sit 2gheter .
PS : ya khaweja rodge badak t7oton kilon bil 7abess ?lol tab w SG when min7oto?
Thank you rodge and its always good to hear from you …
14. Hanoun | December 6th, 2007 at 9:08 pm
Ali1559 you crack me up, round table talk? march 14 go to their foreign masters? you need a reality check buddy, nothing will solve this situation unless Aoun and HA get what they want which is getting syria back to what it used to be before march 14 2005, and this will not happen, and they will do whatever it will take to serve syria and Iran, Ali1559 this is hypocrisy at its best
15. Rodge | December 6th, 2007 at 9:37 pm
Ya khaweja Ali,
Eh, i’m more than ok, i decided to say what i think of without any taboo, because of your people’s actions.
I will not reply to many of the things you said. I told i’m dreaming and i have the right to dream and say whatever i want.
I just wrote my opinion, and i apologized in advance, and if you dson’t like it, it’s your problem. I see the problem in those 10 points. I thought you will at least praise me for accepting the political sectarianism, which is your people demand in first place.
Also you should thank me for not asking to put Aoun and Nasrallah in prison too, not that i don’t encourage this, but i just didn’t want to offend you and your buddies.
As for SG, i think he had his share, and please, for once let him rest and leave him out of your reply.
In the end, what i see now is the following:
Iran against all the world in Lebanon, while Syria is laughing and trying to get the benefits. And who’s helping in making things much difficult?? Hassouna w Aounik and their Bramil el Kh…ra
16. Ali1559 | December 6th, 2007 at 10:36 pm
Hanoun
Well, I don’t see anything changing for the better, especially since the USA has not demanded 50+1!!!!! And all of the sudden they are standing behind GMS! You tell me now, who’s trying to implant the Syrian plan all over again? Us or you? Obviously you are buddy. Sadly, all your 2005 sacrifices are no longer represent your ideology. 14th of March are pro Hariri now, are pro hypocrite standing behind an illegal government.
They Syrians are not innocent, but the US government and the Israel actions over the past decade have been the worst. We need to rely on our selves already. Believe it or not, gma is the way.
17. N10452 | December 6th, 2007 at 11:17 pm
I am starting to get sick of repeating the same explanations everytime .. it feels like no one bothers and reads anyway except few ones of course ..
Fad14,
This is a process that takes time, and that doesnt need to interfer with Aoun or anyone else in the early stages … start from the people to change the heads
18. Hanoun | December 6th, 2007 at 11:17 pm
Ali1559, Aoun is the way? as I mentioned above you do crack me up, are you trying to tell me that he is indenpendant? please check your sources Mr blind follower; also whats wrong with being allied with the US? oh they might force on us their democratic ways, dude I suggest you open your eyes and see who is your leader, but again your all blind followers
19. Maha | December 7th, 2007 at 1:03 am
Did you guys check Loubnanouna group? Their federalism project is interesting.
20. Ali1559 | December 7th, 2007 at 5:40 am
Khaweja rodge
I am not use to you being this way. Don’t be faithless buddy and always remember that you can dream all you want, dreams last for so long even after you’re gone.
I appreciate your honesty but you need to be more flexible with others.
Throwing aoun and nassralh in prison means the handcuffs of 60% of the Lebanese people, is this democracy in your opinion? Aoun and nassrallah are way stronger than your alliance.Hezbollah’s position is clearest than ever before; decisions goes through aoun and not the verse versa
Regardless of the political Lebanese calculus, Iran is building a strong relationships with its neighbors (golf conference) supported by the Americans and no one else. The Americans casualties have dropped to its lowest statistic ever (24 death last month) while the Iranian are innocent now!? Did you even read about the historical American report? Hala2 sar al nawawe al irane mich khatir ??? and who’s paying the priceeeeeeee ? you are . Syria is watching you are right , but what are you doing, sir ? pushing gms for their gooddddddddd ? Oh, we’re syrian right ??
Thank you rodge , have a fantastic day .

Maybe im blind , but you are blind and deaf at the same time . As long you’re not accepting others as partners than you have real issues . Nothing wrong with being an american ally , but do they (usa) consider you their alliance ?? I strongly doubt it isteze . You’re no one but a nbr and history is always there to support my words.
Id7ak tad7ak laka al dounya. im happy for you. keep THE DO7OK up

23. fad14 | December 7th, 2007 at 8:30 pm
Walla ya Ali I dont understand how people like you attack March 14 and its individual leaders and think Aoun and Nasrallah are Angels.
Aoun remains the main reason for the 1988 to 1990 massacres in innocent people and the destruction of the defacto federal Christian state of east Beirut.
He is a deserter from the army and a thief to run away with the money from the ministry of defence and the army.
He is a big proof of corruption for simply employing 1/2 his relatives in Tayyar and the OT v station.
Where is he getting the money to make dinners and parties every week ? We all know he doesn’t make more than his salary as an MP and we all know its barely enough to cover the expenses of his food and Deir El Saleeb visits.
As for Sayed Hassan, we all know where he gets his money from, Does that make him a slave ??? Not sure he can tell Iran and Syria he is free to do WHAT is best for the Lebanese interest. We all know the ones who pay the money, dictate their rules and that Totaly makes him a Syrian/Iranian slave or as we all call it a “dog” for his master who provide the meat and bones.
24. Ali1559 | December 8th, 2007 at 5:11 am
Mr fad14
Your perception (fihmak) is your interpretation (bitarjim) of the facts surrounding the situations you encounter. I will never be able to convince people like you . People like you dont wanna listen and this is the main prb in lebanon .
Fadi, im not gonna attack your criminal leaders anymore . In fact , im staying on the defensive line .
If you have someting new to say ya 100 ahla w sa7la otherwise the ones COMMITTED 3MCHIT MASSACRE HAVE NO ROOM TO TALK about patriotism.
FPM are a big organization and are not waiting on aoun’s salary to arrange dinners and occasions. At last , there is no such thing called slavery in politics. In fact , the word NIGG@ was born in america , and some lebanese politicians are being the WHITE NIGGAZ lately . Doint you thiank ? Ya tell me about it baby …
Thank you ….

Invented in America, applied by Iran and Syria and enjoyed by Nasrallah and Aoun and Rejected by Geagea.
We all know the great legend of Runaway Train, Michael Aoun and the Ratatouile of Dahyeh, who is still hiding in his rat hole.
I have been told sayed hassan got upgraded to a lower level bunker recently and is allowed to see the light 5 minutes per week under FRENCH fighter Planes protection.
