Lowering the number of Road deaths …
Posted by N10452I was watching today a report on Euronews on a major project the EU countries are up to to lower the number of road deaths to 25 000 by 2010. Studies & researches were made to examine the main causes of deaths and ways to reduce them.
I was reading the article as well and it is quite impressive how those countries are doing their best to preserve their people’s lives while we are so reckless in Lebanon, even though it is very easy to lower the rate of accidents and deaths ..
I honestly do not think we even need to do a research in Lebanon, i will assume the government is not capable of fixing all roads right now nor of priving electricity to all highways ( i think god we have ads on Dora-Jal el Dib highway to see anything).
What i propose is very simple:
- The main reason for accidents in Lebanon is reckless driving by drunk or tipsy people, and the only way to stop those is setting up checkpoints at the exit of every clubbing region, for ex set up checkpoints on all gemmaye exits, on all monot exits, on kaslik exits etc etc ..
Dont let anyone drive if he cant do it, throw him in jail for one day.
- The other alternative is to simply ask the pub owners to report any drunk person or not let him drive his car.. also pure and simple.
Now i dont get it what is so hard about doing that ? its not even costly …

What if the drunk guy is a ibn mas2oul bel dawleh?
LOL
2. Roch | October 20th, 2007 at 12:49 am
Oh that guy is most welcome to drive, I will even buy him a bottle
I myself dont drink, and I am always proposing myself to drive after the evening.
You solution must be followed by measures as selecting a driver for each group of partiers, one that wont be allowed to drink.
other solution would be a major change in society habits. I dont mean making alcohol illegal, that was tried and never worked. I mean getting people more interested in having good time while drinking less. New education methods that dont make of drinking a forbiden sin but a social formalities we often have with moderation.
That can be started by making alcohol and add to that smoking, prohibited from publicity, as done in europe.
Instead of the tiny words on cigar boxes and bottles that say: it could hurt you.
put:
IT KILL’S YOU

Roch: drinking in public is prohibited in Lebanon.
LF Forever, this is a serious problem. I lost many young friends due to drinking and driving as well as speeding. It’s always a tragedy yet we can prevent it.
Thank you for the post N.

And there’s so much more to be done.
Like add campaigns,
MAKING, not asking or proposing, MAKING and enforcing people to wear their seatbelts.
Having a designated driver whenever you go to a party.
The peoblem is that in Lebanon, people are raised on ignoring the law, and on “wasayit, and machina…” and bribing the cops.
People need to know that rules are for their own good, even if they’re not bad.

No LF forever,
We cannot ignore this problem at all ..
IT is a priority above all …. those are innocent civilians and most of them young people dying cause of idiotic drunk people ..
It is as important as any political problem and i will keep on mentioning it and i hope people will spread the message ..

Drunk drivers are not the only cause of accidents. Also, there are many who drink at home or at some friend’s houses in another areas that are not mentioned here.
So i don’t think this option will work.

The solution is awareness and advertising campaigns on the tv, radio, newspapers in universities and schools.
The reason for accidents in Leb:
-The roads in lebanon have poor or no lighting
-Unpaved roads
-Speeding
-Driving under thhe influence of alcohol
-Poor law enforcement concerning driving
Sometimes I see tv programs like tele Auto or similar and I wonder how could these programs tell people to drive carefully while the presenter speeds up, do drifts(frem 2id, teshwi7) burn wheels etc…
Bilekhir binzal min al siyarra ka2an sar ma3o orgasm mabsout ….
I notice that people turn on the highlights while driving , well most of the times they are not to blame. If you notice on the zalka nahr al mot highway the seperator(wall barrier) between the highway leading to beirut and that of the other going to jounieh is low thus people driving behind you with their headlights on and cars heading to jounieh facing the driver bikhallook tfawness.
