Proposed by DAN who will join us soon as a writer on the blog.
I never expected that I would need to write a post like this. But today’s time is not a time of silence anymore.
25 years ago, a 34 year old man made it clear to everyone: Even if the whole world supported a presidential candidate for Lebanon, if we Lebanese don’t accept him, he won’t be president. He said that over and over again, and made sure that the whole world gets the message.
This man was Martyr Bashir Gemayyel. Lebanon’s youngest President ever, who was elected in the middle of the civil war. A President who’s words still echo in my mind every now and then, and have been screaming in my mind every hour and minute of the political turmoil we’re living in this country these days.
Where do those words of Bashir stand today? Our Presidential elections have brought the whole world into our own backyard.
Countries from different continents and regions are speeding to name Lebanon’s President…based on “interests of super powers”. And whenever our impotent politians dare to name a President, they need to pass his name over to the world club in order to get its approval. It’s simple. All what is needed is the approval of the U.S, Iran, France, Pakistan, Malta, Mozambique, Cambodia, Seashells, Vanuatu, Ougu Dugu Islands, Tizi Ouzo tribes, the Eskimos, Laos, Uganda and a lot more that I can’t remember.
Yes, our President needs to be screened before starting his job. Even if the entire population wanted him, we’d have to wait for the entire world’s approval.
For the past 3 years, I’ve been watching the news and seeing embassadors, foreign delegates and representatives getting themselves a seat in our political process more than anytime before. Just last month, 328472394824876 foreign ministers from
I don’t know how many countries paid us a visit of “support” because they were “concerned” that we elect our President “within consensus” and “free of problems”.
And what are our politicians doing? Playing around like babies do in their Nursery class: attacking, counter-attacking, blaming, accusing, showing powers, crying, buying, selling, betting, gambling and everything else except protecting their own country from foreign interests, especially at times like these.
In a nutshell: Our days today desperately need a man like Bashir. The person has passed away, but his words are alive and strong. But how are we carrying them along? How are we voicing them out? How are we reminding everyone, including our own political amateurs, that “the President should be LEBANESE before being anything else?” How are we reminding the whole world that our president should be “Loyal to this country without any other?”
What are we doing, as Bashirists at most, and as concerned citizens at least, to sound our digust from what’s going on? To protect our own republic from becoming once again an international stage for a show of powers?? It’s sad to say that in the middle of this big chaos and humiliation we’re living in, which violates every single principle Bashir called for, Bashir’s supporters remain silent! Where is everyone??
Youmna Bashir Gemayyel, where are you?
Nadim, waynak??
Solange, our First Lady, you’re a Member of Parliament at least, where are your words going????
How are you using your position to voice out Bashir’s words??
WHERE IS BASHIR’S VOICE AT A TIME LIKE THIS!?!?
Does it take you too much?? All what it takes is a small announcement outlining a clear, strict and straight position based on Bashir’s prinicples: NO to the foreign interventions, NO to the political gamblings, NO to the loaylity to ANY other party but our own Lebanon, NO to compromise on Lebanese interests, NO to a follower president, YES to a daring leader !
A simple statement that is worth millions of words. A statement that, at least, pays respects to the words of our martyred leader. A leader, whose presence with us today would’ve avoided us every single major crisis we’ve experienced for the past 25 years.
My words aren’t only directed to Bashir’s family. They are directed to every single Bashirist, to every single citizen who believed and still believes in our leader’s vision. To every single supporter who at least once cried out the words “Bashir 7ayy fina”. My words are to everyone. We should all speak out. We should all rise up and revive our leader’s eternal words which are being proven right day after day ever since he left us.
I think its high time we make a breakthrough in this political nursery we’re living in. It’s time we create our own movement.
I someday wish to see a free political movement only dedicated to Bashir and his vision. “The Bashirist Movement”.. “7arakat Al Bashiriyeen Al A7rar” … “Al Bashiriyyeen” .. “Al Qa3eda Al Bashiriyya” .. you name it! whatever it is! But we need to give life to our leader’s words! And this should never be restricted to his family or close supporters. This should be open to everyone who promised and still promises to follow Bashir’s footsteps. We need to speak out and now is the time.
Everyone is having a say in Lebanon’s humiliating crisis these days. From local Taxi drivers to top world leaders. If Bashir was alive, I’m more than sure he wouldn’t be silent or have a rest not for one second before he puts an end to this humiliation we’re living in. I wonder, what’s keeping you silent?

YES N10452 !BACHIR WAS LIKE THIS,AND HE PAID HIS LIFE FOR.YOU CAN’T LOVE BACHIR MORE THAN I DO OR THAN HIS FAMILY DO. YES ,BACHIR WAS LIKE THIS BUT,PLEASE, HE WAS AN EXTRAORDINARY MAN , BUT HE WAS’NT A SAINT, HE WAS A HUMAN LEADER,NOT A MOUNZAL LEADER.SAMIR GEAGEA IS ACTUALLY OUR HUMAN (NOT MOUNZAL) LEADER.AND I TRUST HIS JUDGEMENT.AND , YOU WILL SEE , HE WILL APPROVE GMS, WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT,BECAUSE HE LOVES YOU ,ME , AND ALL THE LEBANESE.AND ,MOST OF ALL,BECAUSE HE IS A VERY PROFOUND,DEEP THINKING ,AND STRATEGIC LEADER.SO DON’T LET US NOT DECEIVE HIM.LOVE.PAULETTE.

To N10452,
Yes we all love bachir, yes we all wish he was here between us right now trying to save us from this political turmoil, and yes bachir was the greatest leader ever to come to this country, though bachir is dead his words still echo in the streets of ashrafieh and bikfaya and zahle and every other major city bachir had an influence on. Lets look at the situation presently, it seems inevevitable that Michel Sleiman is gonna reach the presidancy, i dont agree, u dont agree i dont think any LFer would agree. But what can we do, the LF have 5 members of parliament, LF has given 10,000 martyrs, Samir Geaea has given 11 years of his life, most importantly the LF are still bieng reconstructed from scratch, offcourse there is no way the LF could achieve any major breakthrough now, its still fresh, has samir geagea been freed prior to the election we would have gotten a much more number of MOPs, but sadly that was not the fact, we have to learn to stand before we can learn to walk and thats exactly what the lf are doing now, they are standing. Another thing i would like to add is i dont think geagea will remain silent, which explains why he and gemayel went to visit sleiman today, not because of theyre support to him no, but to ensure that michel sleiman realizes that he is representing the christians, LF and tayyar and marada and kataeb and a7rar etc…geagae is voicing his support to sleiman to ensure that christians wont be “mad3oos 3a rason” like the syrian days…at least we all hope so, cuz i dont think that hakim will ever let his people dowm… Thank You

alright people…since im the one who wrote the article (thanks N10452 for posting it) here are my few comments on your reply:
1) No, when I think of Bashir i do NOT think of Samir Geagea. Even if he inherited LF, he did not take care of it the way bashir did and he did not live up to bashir’s principles. i cannot compare bashir and samir geagea, and would never do. thats why i think of the closest to bashir: his own family and close friends. the people who lived with him and knew him and stood by him. i think of some old kataeb members more than i think of geagea when i remember bashir.
2)my message is also dedicated to all of u. every single person who says bashir 7ayy fina is responsible for being silent at times like these
3) i dont have a problem with the president being elected as much as i have a problem with how this process is going on. foreign interventions have not stopped continuously for 3 years now. ‘leaders’ in our political nursery are waiting for ‘international and regional developments’ before they take decisions. what kind of 7orriyyeh siyedeh iste2leil is this???
tell me i shouldnt be frustrated!

im a product of all this turmoil. i grew up in the civil war and moved to america before i became the next victim of senseless killings and brutal abductions. i can still remember the atmosphere at the time bashir became a president. we had finally felt free again and that only lasted for a short while. ever since we lebanese people havent had a strong leader that could stand up and dare to lead us like our beloved bashir was willing to. he was a real man with a real goal for his people. we need to find that type of man for our country, someone that can take charge and not be influenced by others for the wrong reasons. though it starts with us first. we need to demonstrate all over the world. we need to start a coalition and have the voices of people that care about our country be heard all over the universe. it worked for the african americans and it will work for us. we are not different then them. we became slaves in our own country powered by selfish leaders and outside influences. no one cares about us but us. everybody is out for their own selfish interest. we need to start this fight at our steps and carry it on to whoever wishes that lebanan falls apart including some of our own leaders. bring bashirs message back to our livingrooms wether you are living in australia , us , france or south africa. cause ultimately we lebanese people are the only ones that can help our cause.

I think that with the departure assassination of Bachir, Lebanon lost all the possibilities to be a big country.
Khalas. That’s it guys. No one will be like Bachir. No one. Nobody, Ma hadan
