Oh! yes we have in “Common” that we do not want to destroy each other by force…(which was the old strategy…).

You are right! Lebanese have in common Tabouleh and Homos…

But what about the “common good”?

What about “common respect”? (if I want to live in peace and some group who obeys to the outside imposes BY FORCE his strategy of destruction…is this RESPECT ???)

What about “common History books”???
What about “common education”???
What about “common vision of a future beautiful Lebanon”???

There is not even the “smallest COMMON denominator”!!!

Your analysis is very faulty!! You are ignoring the issue of the weapons!! The huge elephant in the room!!
Take away the guns and fix the system and give the people ESPECIALLY the shiites the FREEDOM to chose; then we’ll see how many days can HA hold its “FAN” base!!

the sayyed said basically that he wants a state where the majority rules, in fact, he is repeating what M14 leaders have been saying since 2005. If electoral votes were not based on sectarian participation but rather on a popular vote, the shiite with their sheer numbers would have that majority in the long run, if you include the diaspora then it would probably not make that much difference either as the numbers are evenly split abroad. However, it is also true that based on a popular system, HA would have to rule and would have to expose itself politically which would weaken it because it does not have the legitimacy in international circles and the country would be isolated bringing about an economic and financial crisis not to mention the threat of conflict and war. All of this talk is just a political strategy to pressure the sunnis mainly and the M14 christians into accepting HA’s legitimacy and role as the so called resistance, i,e the right to keep its aramada….How many times do they need to wield their “stick” before everyone gets it?

Those who left, like myself, left for a reason. We left to have a better life, and with life in Lebanon getting worse and worse, I have no reason to go back. I refuse to go back and have not touched Lebanese soil since I left about 9 years ago. No country is perfect, but my experience abroad has shown me that Lebanon is not a country, it is a dumpster full of garbage and idealistic flowers that wither among the garbage and try but can’t change anything. With all that said, the garbage is growing and will continue to increase, and as that is my opinion it is such my choice to remain where I am.
