Today’s incident is very misleading in its timing and location.
I present my condoleances first of all to the parents of Samer Hanna for their tragic loss and to the Lebanese army in general.

What happened today ?

An LA helicopter was attaqued over South Lebanon by unknown gunmen, leading to the death of an army captain. The region where the incident happened is near Jezzine and is known to be a shiite region ( clashes btw Amal & Hezbollah used to occur there during the civil war), and there is no trace of Sunnite presence around it, which pretty much eliminates the possibility of a jihadist attack.

From the articles & analysis i read, i can only come up with two reasonable asumptions:

1- The army helicopter went into a restricted HA region and HA gunmen shot to warn them but hit the helicopter instead. There is no interest for HA to engage in a fight with the army or harass it, specially after The ex-head of army now president of the Republic Michel Suleiman assisted them in invading Beirut and is a very loyal ally and friend to the so-called ‘Resistance’

2- Palestinians or members of an extremist group were paid to shoot at the army in order to cause tension between them and Hezbollah. One should note that the army was denied access to the crime scene by Hezbollah militiamen, who are probably confused and surprised by this infiltration into their zones.

Will we hear again about this incident ?

Everyone will condemn it tomorrow, some politicians are already trying to gain some political points out of it by accusing HA, who definitly hold a certain responsability, but it will be forgotten and another innocent Lebanese will go in vain.

R.I.P Samer Hanna.

the incident occurred outside the U.N. peacekeeping zone ,we should simply enlarge the zone if HA can not control it.

    N,
Hizballa will know and they already know that there are too much people who will think and analyse the same as you did and this gave them the freedom and traquility to make this attack, i’m sure that the army knows well who is behind such attacks and who was behind the assassination of Francois Hajj but pitty they do not have the right to do anything except counting their MARTYRS. ALLA YIR7AM EL SHABEB.

The same as Syria did in the past three years, they wanted us to say that no way Syria is behind all the chaos and assassinations , why the hell should she do it since all the international community eyes are on her,and since the 1559 is a big pressure over syria’s shoulder why don’t she play it smooth and gain back what she lost with USA instead of killing and explosing cars. that’s what Nasser kandil and wi2am wahhab and 3asim kanso and Albert mansour were trying to convince us , so please N do not play that role.

This is a message to the army to choose an army chief that suits HA…that is it?

    N
it is not true that the Army is tahet amroun…just don’t undermine elias el murr and his visit to the USA months ago…….

Very very disappoiting your analysis….you did the same with Tripoli’s incident…….

THE ARMY IS THE MAIN REMAINING OBSTACLE TO HA AND THE FACT THAT IT IS MADE UP OF SMART AND CLEVER AND PATRIOT INDIVIDUALS MAKE HA SH***T THEIR PANTS…THEY KNOW THEY CANNOT KEEP PLAYING TOM AND JERRY WITH THE ARMY FOREVER…ALMOST 2/3 IF NOT MORE OF THE ARMY AGAINST HA……..WAKEEEEEEEEEEE UPPPPPPP GUYS PLEASE

N also no one expected HA to attack Beirut and other regions in may…but he did…
i’m not confirming here that HA did it but there’s a big probability that HA is the one behind the operation, just by taking into consideration the region where it happened, the new army commander will be announced soon (and of course they’ll not accept someone against them)..
and finally i wanna say that one day HA will start his plan officially (the islamic revolution) so anything may happen in anytime.

Anyway i wish the army will have the balls this time to announce the real responsible because of course they already or they’ll know soon…
does anyone remember what happened to the investigation about the snipers in Chiyah?? the army was investigating back then..

    ba2a allah yestor.

  • 11. Anonymous | August 29th, 2008 at 4:27 am

    @ N:
I don’t know who did this but logically, and here I’m not defending HA since I couldn’t care less abouth those guys, but why would they do such a stupid thing now ??Especially now, that they’re under a microscope, their every move, every word is being monitored, dissected even… Something’s not right in this story. I have no idea who did this and as you said we’ll most probably never know.
But if one wants to analyze I would say someone is trying to set up HA in order to create a confrontation between them and the army… a confrontation that would be a catastrophe to everyone without exceptions we would all lose from such confrontation.
In any case, whoever did this has done great harm to HA: check out M14’s reaction after the incident… God knows what awaits us next

It could be anyone. Lets keep in mind that all foreign secret services have a branch in lebanon :(

As for 90% of the lebanese ppl :( we will be hearing 2 stories :

*The anti HA will accuse it for everthing (you guys on this blog),

    * The people of 8th of march and alliance will blame Isreal and only Israel.

and here is my personal view on the topic :

You cannot blame HA and only HA for this ( I agree with N10452 ) , if so , how do you guys explain the tripoli bombing last week ? FM done it bcoz tripoli is a FM stronghold? Come one , you guys know better … It is now about who control the areas anymore ! It is all about money, pro killers(i.e piere jmayel assassination) and foreign agendas.

I personally blame it on the palestinians guerillas or junud al cham (the armed wing of fata7 al islam in 3yn al 7ilwe camp). Trust me, it is so easy to take down an helicopter…

This is a very weird incident and what so called ‘’something fishy” is always possible.

At last, we will never know anyway :( only the devil knows .

  • 15. Doc 1559 | August 29th, 2008 at 6:07 am

It is not about who control the areas*** on 13

  • 16. Fuziyad | August 29th, 2008 at 9:58 am

The actual army is indeed mostly under the control of the hezb…but this doesn’t mean the army is obeying hezb because they love him. They obey because they are constantly blackmailed…and this is just part of the blackmailing….

    Rima,
I never said HA did not do it .. i only gave two possible scenarios that could have occured in my opinion and it did specify HA involvment in one of them and HA responsability in the 2nd ..

HA doesnt need to send any messages, and HA believe it or not is happy with how things r with the army right now … he has an army that is not allowed to step into its regions and needs to apologize everytime it harms the so-called ‘resistance’ ..

Dont be fooled by Elias el Murr, he is a good person bass ma ra7 yi2arrib 3ala Hezbollah and the next army chief will be loyal to HA as well ma fiya sou2al .. 40% of the army is Shiite keep that in mind as well ..

As i said, the most probable scenario is that they were shooting to keep them off and hit them but i dont see how trained people like HA militiamen are can miss by that much …

The army was not allowed to make any investigation and no one will ever know the outcome .. so why bother accuse recklessly ??

  • 19. Fou2ad | August 29th, 2008 at 10:46 am

  • 21. M.N. | August 29th, 2008 at 10:56 am

N the army were not allowed (bcause of HA) to reach the accident location for hours…
till now the army didn’t mention anything about who did it, what about the 2nd officier in the plane? no one talked to him till now?!!!
HA didn’t mention anything about it…didn’t even condemn it!!!

all of these don’t mean anything???

  • 22. Rima | August 29th, 2008 at 12:13 pm

    N

OK if the army is 40% Shiaa so that will leave 60% non shiaa and definetely anti-HA…Plus not all shiaas in the army are loyal to HA especially that they live of the institution and they won’t be happy with HA’s taking over Lebanon…a militia behaves like a militia even when highly organized…
The army could be a deadly card if circumstances change …unless the army surrender totally to HA…which is unprobable

HA knows that in the presence of the army it can’t not achieve its supremacy and coup d’etat…the reluctance of 14th March to use the army and the fear of civil war is what makes the army look weak…It might be easier for HA to fight Israeli soldiers than lebanese one despite all its rockets…..

    WE have two choices…
    1-total surrender
2-civil war between HA and the army

there is no coexistence it is all takti22 wa22et

    cheers

  • 23. Omega | August 29th, 2008 at 12:54 pm

14 march tried to use the army against fellow lebs in order to achieve their personal goals. the army refused because it was wise enough. march 14 can not use the army simply because the army does not belong to them. the army is supposed to protect lebanon and not protect march 14 so called leaders personal interests.
i am sure u will be happy to see a war between hezballa and the army , but btammnik this will not happen. the army does not follow march 14 orders , and hezballa is not related to march 14 in any way. so as long as march 14 are not in control there will be no war. neshkor alla.

  • 25. N10452 | August 29th, 2008 at 1:59 pm

    Rima,
What you wrote is a strategic or long-term thinking and i agree that HA cannot rule without the army around .. but thats not how things are right now and for the next few years ..

You see HA does not want to rule Lebanon militarily for the moment, the army presence and the government & state presence are tools for him to use against Israel ..

The international community would have never condemned the July war if HA was all over Lebanon ..

The army must be strenghened by M14 as well as the ISF .. and thats where they are screwing up so far ..along with many other things ..

So i repeat, HA right now has no interest in making the army an extra enemy for them ..

You seem very convincing but I am still not convinced however I propose a possible scenario: They meant to scare them away but they killed them instead…If they felt that el Murr is defying them beleive me they will do it thinking that as usual RAJEH did it…

  • 28. Son of Ehden | August 29th, 2008 at 4:06 pm

I will not sit here and do my own analysis for who shot on the army helicopter. We need to be more aware of the larger picture. The situation will not remain like this, there is no future.
I just hope that the Christians are rearming as we can’t count on anyone to defend us. I also pray that we will not see any internal christian fighting. We are really stuck between two evils: Sunni Extremists and HA. I have no problem with our Lebanese muslim brothers but we have very severe issues to tackle.

I am still very disappointed with the writers on this blog. Can we please post more serious issues that will tackle the threats to our Christian communities. Please post something positive to rebuild our community, to unite our ranks. We need to stop this division among us before it is too late, before history books remember us as the people who led their own destruction.

    Thanks All,

    -Marouneh min Ehden.

  • 29. Tarek | August 29th, 2008 at 4:20 pm

With all the debate about the next army leader, I don’t think that this is an accident ESPECIALLY that the helicopter has been doing the same maneuvers for days.

It is very clear that it isn’t an accident, and they wanted it to be very clear …

Ahh, I’m really ashamed of being Lebanese when people like those are also considered Lebanese.

ALI THIS POST IS 4 U READ IT PLZ..

And what have you learned Omega ??? Who did more harm to the army ?? Aoun or Geagea ?? who split it and let down his men and most of his officers and caused the death of the finest officers & captains because of his power obsession ??

What did you learn ya Omega ?? 18 years ago you were defending the army against a militia .. now you are justifying a militia who is killing your army …

And you are asking others to learn from their past ??
