Hezbollah didn’t only take 2 Israeli soldiers hostages, but he took Lebanon hostage and gave it to its masters (Iran & Syria) as a bargaining chip. Do we Lebanese have a saying in all this? Did Hassan Nasrallah ask us, the Lebanese, if we agreed on such operation? He doesn’t care. He thinks he is untouchable and any decision he makes, we the Lebanese, must obey it. After all he is a Muslim religious leader and Allah path is the right one. He threatened every single Lebanese, right after kidnapping the Israeli soldiers, he asked all Lebanese to stand by his resistance or else. Or else, what? You will pull your Imam Ali sward and cut our heads?

Government: “The act or process of governing, especially the control and administration of public policy in a political unit.”

Why our “so called” politicians are silent? Until when they will keep playing this old record “the decision should be in the hands of the government”. Government!!!! Are you kidding us? This government been engaged in a national dialogue for almost a year and came out empty. This government has 2 Hezbollah ministers whom they didn’t inform this “government” about their military operation in the South against Israel.

This government still labels Hezbollah a resistance. How can they label it a resistance while it doesn’t even report to them? How they can label it a resistance while it calls itself “The Islamic Resistance”? Does this government understand that such resistance doesn’t believe in a country called Lebanon?

Sovereignty: “Supremacy of authority or rule as exercised by a sovereign or sovereign state.”

This, so called government, has not authority or rule over an Islamic resistance in Lebanon. Yet this resistance is represented in government and in parliament. How a country can be sovereign if it has on its soil a military force that doesn’t take order from the government or the national army? How can Lebanon be sovereign if Hezbollah keeps its arms and decides on its own when to drag our country to war?

Democracy: “Government by the people exercised either directly or through elected representatives.”

Hezbollah, like any other Islamic group, joins the political democratic process and once they get what they want, they are the first to open fire on democracy. When they join the political process, we hear and read western media, analysts and politicians, (who lives thousands miles away and only know about these groups through books or the media) calling it a victory. They know nothing about how these organizations work. Do a small research and read what these westerners wrote when Hezbollah was engaged in the “democratic” elections in Lebanon. I was reading at that time and laughing. Now I understand how Al Qaeda, Hezbollah and other terrorist organization can beat the West. They play your game and at the end they shoot you and shoot democracy in the head.

Hezbollah doesn’t believe in democracy. There is no democracy in Islam. There is no democratic election under Islamic law. There is only Islam and the Umma.

A Lebanese politician said:”Hezbollah will prevail”. Ideologically, this leader is supposed to be on the opposite side of the political spectrum of Hezbollah. But he, like others is playing it safe. But if we really look into it, we noticed, even after September 11 and even of what is going in Afghanistan, Iraq, Indonesia, India, London, Madrid… The west still doesn’t get it. The west still thinks with reason they will win over radicalism. They still do not get it. Neither money, reason, houses, infrastructure … Will change a single thing. They will take your money, they will talk to you, they will let you build their towns and infrastructure but when you blink, they will stick a dagger in your back. What is more important of all this for them is simply … Islam. Does the west know what Islam is? No it is not the new last name of Cat Stevens.

Most of us in the West are not as foolish as our media makes us appear.

We know there is no reasoning with a 7th century political ideology masquerading as a religion. We know the only path to peace is victory, and the path to victory is a complete transformation of the Middle East. That will require destroying terrorist groups and the infrastructure and governments that support them. It will also require crushing Islamic culture with our own — transforming Islam itself into a watered-down, nonviolent religion.

Israel’s incursion into Lebanon, like the US invasion and rebuilding of Iraq, is a key part of the whole strategy. Supporting people like you in Lebanon is another key part. But the war will really be won over the next 3 generations or so, as we help the people of the middle east lose faith in Islam and begin to treat it as unimportant. They can keep the name “Muslim” if they want, as long as they abandon the vile teachings of Muhammed.

It is not only very interesting, but the analysis of sovereinity exactly like i wrote here.

Tomorrow I’m sitting in a parliamentary committee in the Israeli Parliament regarding the war in cyberspace, and i’ll be more than thankfull if you allow me to say these words on your behalf in order to assist the government and parliament to understand the views of this conflict.

dude, i understand your anger, but seriously, do you want the whole middle east to kiss israels butt forever? i mean, c’mon. every war has to have its sacrifices. you can’t go on and blame hizballah for this.

palestinianphilosopher, I must have missed the comment about the whole middle east kissing israels butt forever. But, I personally think it would be nice if you could learn to live in peace. By the way, this IS hizballah’s fault. Your terrorist proxy armies do not serve the interests of the people. They merely keep you suffering in a state of perpetual war. Looks like you would get tired of that after a while.

Mano, thank you for the great post. I can possibly shed some light on the hopes of many westerners for the ME. There are some wonderful features of Democracy that could eventually help to heal the perpetual sectarian hatreds that plague ME society.

Beyond representation of the people in government, Democracy demands open debate on policies and laws, creating a lot of “people power” and opening up a society to many different points of view. Much like access to the internet can allow individuals to explore the ideas of others to help inform one’s on opinions. It gives outlets to air grievances more powerful and effective than the point of a gun.

For example, blacks could never win equal rights in the US through violence. But, in a Democracy, peaceful leaders with powerful ideas, like Martin Luther King Jr emerge to lead us to understand injustice inherent in our system and lead us to a better way. The hope is that this “opening up” of ME societies can lead to more tolerance of others.

I have come across many, many truly moderate Muslims in my like here in America and on the internet. There is great hope that a change toward greater tolerance can emerge within the broader Muslim world.

And if it doesn’t, we will eventually have to take the gloves off and kick some serious ass. This is an option we are very reluctant to use, thank GOD, because that would be a horrific bloody mess. Here is an article on why we are reluctant to wage war in the traditional sense of the word:

    Tom Penn,
I think we have a major problem called POlitical Islam nowadays and i dont see any hopes in changes for very simple reasons.

The problem is in Islam and the Koran cannot be touched. They HAVE to abide by it and it dictates their way of living, how to rule etc …

What is needed is anothe Ataturk but worldwide this time, too bad such a guy comes only once in a lifetime.

LotharBot, u really make me laugh…hehehhe..Do u know that statistics in USA is saying that every year 20,000 individual become Muslims…and 4 u Tom Penn the problem is in u (christians & jews) not in Islam…all the wars in the whole world is against Islam, forexample: Iraq, Afghanistan, Shishan, Sumal, Libanon, Palestine, Kosovo…all the wars are initiated by christians and jews…and u made me believe in Islam more and more when u said that the problem is in THE HOLLY QURAN. because in THE HOLLY QURAN there is a vurse saying :”jews and christians will never agree with you Muslims unless u obey their religion” and this really what is said from more than 1400 years ago in THE HOLLY QURAN and it apears to be true…
    thank you!

Funny, the thought that Lebanon needs another Ataturk crossed my mind the other day, along with other thoughts which are not helpful in my everyday life.
