It is with great regret that I received the news today about the withdrawal of our charismatic Armenian Catholic candidate, Richard Koyoumjian, from the race in Beirut I.

Dr. Kouyoumjian has been involved in the Lebanese Forces for the past three decades. He enrolled during the days of Bashir and remained committed during the days of Samir by means of his involvement in the works and lobbying of the Diaspora in Washington D.C.

His candidacy unfolded naturally and his role seemed to fit like a glove. Not only did he represent the spirit of Ashrafieh and its Christian diversity, he also represented the young competent idealist that many Lebanese Forces supporters have been longing for recently.

However one big obstacle came in the way. It was the incumbent MP, Serge Tor Sarkissian, who was running again for the position. Regardless of what Ashrafieh represents for Serge or how good he is with his opportunistic skills, it seems that a deal had to be brokered in total fairness with the principles of the Cedar Revolution.

Not that Dr. Kouyoumjian did not represent the Armenians – in fact he succeeded in representing both Armenians and Non-Armenian Christians – but the unwritten agreement with the Armenians is that they choose their candidates just like March 8 Armenians get to choose their candidates.

Again, this doesn’t mean that the March 14 Armenians do not want Dr. Kouyoumjian. Instead we had to deal with a self-indulgent candidate who, throughout his 9 year tenure, did not learn, it seems, on the importance of compromising for the sake of the nation.

When the mature decision makers of the Lebanese Forces, more specifically Dr. Geagea and Dr. Kouyoumjian, realized they were facing a stubborn irresponsible person who had his personal interests at stake, they had to take a responsible decision.

According to the Ancient Testament, two women who were arguing over who was the true mother of a child, came to Solomon seeking his wise judgment. When he offered to divide the child in two with a sword, the true mother was revealed when she showed compassion and decided to give up the child rather than see him hurt.

Once again – and why should we be surprised? –, the Lebanese Forces conceded an important asset for the sake of the success of the Cedar Revolution. This should not at all reveal weakness but rather grandeur. The LF could have pursued the race for its own sake unilaterally – and even then, we would have had great chances to win. But being the true mother of the cause, it decided to sacrifice.

Dr. Kouyoumjian hasn’t left us as he has been appointed by Dr. Geagea as the LF’s official spokesperson for the elections. What happened today is something we shouldn’t be ashamed of but rather proud.

For the speech of Richard Kouyoumjian assuming responsibility of the decision with great nobility, please click on the following link:

Long Live The Lebanese Forces in its leadership and infrastructure, which will resurrect Lebanon from ashes and the forces of the culture of death and illusion–aoun and sidi nasrallah.

    Eiffel,
LF needs to reorganize itself and distance itself from Harriri and comp.
They have four years to work on that, after which they can possibly and I hope get much more seats in the Parliament.
Harriri’s and Sunni’s era is over.
    It has to end.

I wanted to go and vote in achrafieh but now its not worth it anymore… I wont vote for aoun but also not for march 14.
the candidates are despicable.pharaon… nadim ….
    Nayla possibly but thats it.

khaye bada kess. ta tse3edneh eveything is dead..

  • 3. Mickel | May 22nd, 2009 at 12:55 am

The LF decided to be the bigger man and make the sacrifices.

But how come it’s always the LF who has to make the sacrifices?

  • 4. Rambo | May 22nd, 2009 at 4:02 am

lame excuses. Why the LF didn’t pull its candidates in other places. How about Chouf for example, Ghattas Khoury is also insiting on running.

The LF pulled the most promining LF. why not exchange Sheikh Farid Habib seat for example and keep Kouyoumjian?

Why they didn’t exchange MP Zahra who is still proud of being a graduate of Huntington university (for those who do not know it is an online fake univeristy where for few dollars you can buy a degree)?

It seems Sheikh Habib and Zahra can not bring the same price of a Dr. Kouyoumjian.

The LF is not ‘im el sabeh … the Sabeh is ibn bayo Hariri and he is paying …. petro-dollar.

“a deal had to be brokered in total fairness with the principles of the Cedar Revolution.”

HAHAHAHAHAHAAHA if the L.F continues like this,There will be no cedars revolution, ive concluded that officially Geagea is th most idiot leader in the history of the lebanese Forces. A good Leader shouldnt hve scarified Kouyoumjian, he shouldnt have sacrified ANY RUNNER FOR THE ELECTION, like Wehbi katicha… Or instead of scarifying the most competent candidate, he should have withdrawn someone like Eddy Abillamaa..
He should have done like Aoun did in Jezzine, Keep being stubborn et QUE LE MEILLEUr Gagne!!

Tab enno ma32oul Enno el Achrafye w terikha, ma 3anda mouracha7 3an el ouwet?!?! MA3OUL?!?!?! Ana sarle 20 sene 3etich be karm el zeitoun w ba3ed chi le sar, kel ahele el karm meste2in men el wade3…AYNA HYA AL KOUWAT AL LOUBNANYA?????WE serna na7na?!?! la, Lam nabka…wa lan nastamerr….
We need to organize a new election inside the Lf, geagea’s days are over…what a weak leader…how come it’s always the LF who has to make the sacrifices?

  • 6. Elie.F | May 22nd, 2009 at 8:13 am

    Ma fi shi isme sacrifice.

Geagea 2 days ago stated that he sent an agreement to the Armenians of 14 March which he saw it was a complete agreement taht would be good for Armenians,Cedar revolution and 14 March, let’s just wait and see.

As for you ya Rami, man you never stop to fascinate me, “Geagea’s days are over”? and a weak leader as well?I hope it’s not the psychiatrist who told your father that.

  • 7. Antioch | May 22nd, 2009 at 9:14 am

So we take it that Saad Alhariri is solomon in ur little story and ja3ja3 is the true mother??

  • 8. ashrafieh | May 22nd, 2009 at 11:40 am

Sorry but i cant be objective but i am logical :D r.kouyoumjian should stay as a lf candidates.Ashrafieh is for Lf-ers.we have around 5000 voters. Why?we take this decision?this is not sacrifice.I dont want to add more but in Ashrafieh we dont have a candidate exept Sheikh Nadim that we support him till end.this is not fair.Hope Dr Geagea took the right step.
Bashir 7ay fina and nabka wanastamer bidoun aw ma3 nouweb!

  • 9. danny | May 22nd, 2009 at 12:03 pm

    Rami,

I thought your psychiatrist had suggested you live in the groves of Zeitoon in the north…or…..
Now you all see Dr. Kouyoumjian as the most competent or the best??? Why? on what basis?
Anyway in politics as well as in life the big picture is the most important! To my understanding there was a disctinct possibility of losing that seat had the Armenian vote splinterred and the Tashnag candidate might have won (I am hearing of mass airlifts of M8 recruits to Lebanon while M14 has fizzled)….

Also, the Armenian candiddate is Zahle supposedly is a pro LF…

    Anyway, we’ll see in 16 days….

Rami (you are sounding so much as if you are from the dahiye ya ali), make sure you take your meds and stay off the sauce…

    Lakhayem

  • 19. Rony | May 23rd, 2009 at 12:41 am

we are shocked by the withdrawal of dr.kouyoumjian, no doubt he is one of the best candidates. On the other hand, we have faith that dr.geagea took the correct decision. long live the lf.

  • 20. N10452 | May 23rd, 2009 at 7:06 am

    LF France,
I think i’ve been clear on many occasions in regards to the LF stance in politics because it reflects its stance in the elections ..
    Uncapable of imposing its candidates
Uncapable of negotiating its strategic alliance. ..
Uncapable of running their own campaign except by attacking Aoun …

Its all messed up and Kouwoumjian is one small example of all that ..

And even though am kind of honored people like to hear my opinion, i wish 1% of those who read me do apply what i am saying or pass it along to the LF leadership before its too late ..

  • 21. Rami | May 23rd, 2009 at 7:59 am

Say that to danny, or to michele N…

  • 22. danny | May 23rd, 2009 at 2:14 pm

  • 27. danny | May 23rd, 2009 at 7:44 pm

    Rami,

Im not at all flaterred as I don’t want a creep/idiot to go on obsessing on me, Arze n Doc were more than enough.

  • 29. Rony | May 24th, 2009 at 12:52 am

Rami, samir geagea is lebanese forces, if u dont like his actions go find another political party. dr richard kouyoumjian who u are defending, himself accepted the withdraw announced by dr geagea, who are u to judge them.

  • 30. Rami | May 24th, 2009 at 9:08 am

i ask the same question, Who are you Rony to tell me to go find another political party? by saying this you are demonstrating to me that you are not a true L.Fer, that you do not support the L.f, you only support a name, a person, a human, who came from ashes and to ashes he shall return, as for me i support a cause, i support a party, an idea a slogan that has been forged 30 years ago. Rony there are a lot of differences between you and me..but you are not different from the aounies who follow there leader blindly, as for me i will always stick with the L.F, and try to change from the inside, bring a new leader.

  • 31. Rony | May 24th, 2009 at 11:46 am

Rami what im saying is that u must trust geagea, if he kept dr.kouyoumjian and torsarkisian didnt withdraw , 14 march will lose for sure beirut 1

  • 32. Rami | May 24th, 2009 at 12:06 pm

If Bachir was still alive would he accept that achrafieh doesn’t have a single L.F candidate???
The only true L.F representative is George Forides

  • 33. paul | May 24th, 2009 at 3:29 pm

    g. forides or abou coco.

  • 34. Rony | May 24th, 2009 at 4:00 pm
