Sfeir says no to Hezbollah …

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

For as long as it has existed, with very few exceptions, The Maronite Church has always stood for what is right and good for Lebanon and specifically its Christians. A Lebanon without its free christians will no longer be Lebanon but another arab country.

Yesterday’s statement by Patriarch Sfeir came as a warning to Christians first, and to all the Lebanese in general. We cannot have a “resistance army that would one day use its weapons against the enemy and another day domestically.”

Not surprisingly, this statement came after visiting President Michel Suleiman in Baabda.

Why from Baabda ? for four main reasons:
1- To remind Pr.Suleiman that he holds a responsibility towards Christians and all the Lebanese with regards to Hezbollah and its arms.
2- To emphasize that The presidential seat will remain for the Maronites (and bashing Jumblatt’s proposal of rotating the presidential seat among sects).
3- To clarify to Aoun and Hariri, and from the presidential palace, that his stances did not change and he will not bless the upcoming government.
4- To send a warning to all Christians and Muslims on the danger Hezbollah presents on their freedom and Lebanon’s freedom.

Bkerke always speaks what’s right and always warns ahead of time, yet only few listen.

Lebanon was invaded by Syria, Bkerke was the first to ask for their withdrawal.
Christian leaders were being persecuted, Bkerke was the first to ask for justice. (etc …)

After the ‘06 war and Beirut’s invasion, Bkerke is warning us all of what’s next to come if Hezbollah stays armed.

Abolishing Political Sectarianism

Monday, November 30th, 2009

“Political sectarianism is blocking the development of the Lebanese political regime and standing as an obstacle in the face of a democracy where the majority rules and the minority opposes,” stressed Nasrallah and added that abolishing political sectarianism is a “basic condition” for the implementation of the majority-minority rule.

When reading this quote, Hezbollah is the last party that comes in mind, yet this quote is one of many in Hassan Nasrallah’s speech yesterday, where he announced the party’s new manifesto.

So what’s new about this manifesto ? Absolutely nothing, except more hypocrisy, lies and a failed attempt to tone down the Islamic Rethoric.

Only a fool, or someone following blindly Michel Aoun, would believe for a second that the party of GOD, the Islamic resistance (previously revolution) in Lebanon wants to abolish political sectarianism and work for a secular united Lebanon.

Nonetheless, this is not the first time we hear about abolishing political sectarianism and definitly not the last from the Shiite leaders. Nabih Berri never misses an opportunity without bringing it up, and Hezbollah has been hinting at it for a while now.

The reasons are plently behind those demands and can be resumed as follows:
- Shiite parties have always relied on demographics and the capacity to increase their influence by increasing their numbers.
- The divisions within the Christian community are ideal for such demands, as it will make HA’s mission to take over the country politically much easier.
- Hezbollah fears federalism and division as both scenarios will isolate further the Shiite community.

Christians must be very aware of the consequences of such demands and stand up to Hezbollah and point out his true intentions. The terrorist party is playing a very smart ideological game and knows time is on his side.

As for the rest of the points in the manifesto, it is the same old speech we hear at every occasion.

- Recognizing the role of the Lebanese army and praising Lebanon’s sovereignty, knowing that Hezbollah killed an army officer not long time ago and invaded Beirut and undermined the army’s presence not so long time ago as well.

- Demanding a consistent fight of corruption and more competence in the government organizations, while they have their own mini-republic and never bother paying taxes or bill.

- And of course the “Death to America, Death to Israel” slogans to fuel the large crowds.

Lebanese Forces & Fascim

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

In support of Lebanonjon’s post, i thought i clarify this fascim issue and those who falsly label the Lebanese Forces as a fascit party.

It is always known that winners write their own version of a country’s history, and the Lebanese Forces despite its heroic resistance and achievements, had its image tarnished by the political losses it endured, and was wrongly linked to several incidents & events in Lebanon’s history.

- How many times have you heard people accusing the LF of Black Saturday incidents ? or Tal el Zaatar events? or Ehden massacre? (LF didn’t even exist back then).

Fascim is a big word that so many Lebanese use without really knowing its meaning. Hitler was a fascit for calling his race a superior one and killing inferior races. When did the LF call for such a thing ? Did any of those who label the LF as fascit bother and read its manifesto ?

Did you know for a fact that the great Charles Malek, the #1 advocate for human rights and equality among people, along with many other intellectuals, were the inspiration behind that manifesto ?

One more thing, that famous LF cross that troubles so many people.
Did you know it was a Maronite monastery who launched it in 1984 ? and not the LF ?

Now one might tell me all this is a nice talk but look at the massacres the LF did.

First of all, a massacre is killing a large number of people indiscriminately, and does not describe the war crimes the LF & many other militias did during the war.

Nonetheless, i categorically refuse that the LF apologizes or explains itself on violent acts against Palestinians or Syrians or Somalians or any other invador who dared threaten our people and our land.
Those got what they deserved and more as every single one of them was a danger to us and supported directly or indirectly the slaughter of our people.
For those who have a selective memory, here is a list of the massacres perpetuated against Christians & Lebanese in general, a list that i myself compiled and retyped one village by one long time ago.

Last but not least, the Lebanese people have always been racist individuals, either christan, sunnite or shiite. Just look at the way they treat their maids, or asian or arab workers …

Our society lacks education in terms of human rights, social behavior, democracy etc etc … so don’t go blame a whole party for it.

And while you are at it, i challenge you to find me one single party that is as democratic, liberal, non-feudal & non racist as much as the LF, knowing that i do not approve of many many things in the LF and i think i’ve made that clear already in tons of posts.

How to deal with Jumblatt?

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

How to deal with Jumblatt ? by simply ignoring him.

I keep asking myself and all readers and M14 supporters why are you guys so surprised or shocked or insulted by Jumblatt’s speeches or twists ? He hasn’t changed since the 1980s, this is the only constant in Jumblatt’s political career and this should be our only basis.

He misses Syria … so what ?
He is getting back on good terms with HA … so what ?
He wants to revive Quartet Alliance even though he denies it … so what ?

The man cares about two things, himself and the Druze community. Lebanon, South, Arab Cause, Palestinians are all big cliches he plays with from time to time.

Jumblatt is the biggest loser from those elections, whereas M14 Christians took some of his seats and his bloc was reduced, but then again Jumblatt needs the Christian votes in the Mountain and it won’t be Aoun giving it to him in the next elections …

Sami Gemayel & Samir Geagea hit back @ Jumblatt, and it didn’t take long for him to correct his stance on the “Quartet Alliance revival”. [...]

All i know is that this is a crucial moment for all Lebanese Christians (M14 & M8), a wake up call to meet, dialogue and settle the differences and come out with a solid gathering despite all the differences between them on all levels.

The Christians need to be playing the referee’s role, not follow one side against the other and only by retaining this role, they can dream of getting back their rights and privileges …

May 25 : How to disarm Hezbollah ?

Monday, May 25th, 2009

I feel ashamed as a Lebanese to be commemorating this day as one of “Liberation & Resistance Day”.

For 9 years now, we have been celebrating Israel’s withdrawal from the South but also Hezbollah’s invasion of the South. Back then, The Syrians were still here and refused any deployment of the Lebanese army in the South, but on the contrary gave Hezbollah a green light to control the “liberated” lands.

Today, and two weeks away from the 2009 Parliament elections, i find it deplorable that not one single Lebanese party, specifically Christian one, has presented in his electoral program a strategy to disarm Hezbollah in the next few years. Kataeb party is among very few who presented an electoral program to start with and mentioned strenghtening the army but it is not enough.

The biggest threat on Christians today and on Lebanon (internally speaking) is Hezbollah and fighting it with weapons is not an option, which means Christians parties, specifically the Lebanese Forces & Kataeb must forge a plan to force Hezbollah to disarm and be able to contain any possible reaction from this fast-growing terrorist organization. Sheikh Nadim, Sheikh Sami, Nayla Tueni and other young promising politicians should also be the driving forces of such a plan as they represent the youth and the future.

I am not expecting any plans to be declared whatsoever, for reasons i fail to understand but i would call incompetency at the moment, which is i will be writing my own perception on how to disarm Hezbollah in plausible means hoping that someone will adopt the idea and develop it.

I hope one day we will be able to LIBERATE the South once and for all from Hezbollah invasion.

The Armenian candidate’s seat in Beirut I: Solomon’s Baby

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

It is with great regret that I received the news today about the withdrawal of our charismatic Armenian Catholic candidate, Richard Koyoumjian, from the race in Beirut I.

Dr. Kouyoumjian has been involved in the Lebanese Forces for the past three decades. He enrolled during the days of Bashir and remained committed during the days of Samir by means of his involvement in the works and lobbying of the Diaspora in Washington D.C.

His candidacy unfolded naturally and his role seemed to fit like a glove. Not only did he represent the spirit of Ashrafieh and its Christian diversity, he also represented the young competent idealist that many Lebanese Forces supporters have been longing for recently.

However one big obstacle came in the way. It was the incumbent MP, Serge Tor Sarkissian, who was running again for the position. Regardless of what Ashrafieh represents for Serge or how good he is with his opportunistic skills, it seems that a deal had to be brokered in total fairness with the principles of the Cedar Revolution.

Not that Dr. Kouyoumjian did not represent the Armenians – in fact he succeeded in representing both Armenians and Non-Armenian Christians – but the unwritten agreement with the Armenians is that they choose their candidates just like March 8 Armenians get to choose their candidates.

Again, this doesn’t mean that the March 14 Armenians do not want Dr. Kouyoumjian. Instead we had to deal with a self-indulgent candidate who, throughout his 9 year tenure, did not learn, it seems, on the importance of compromising for the sake of the nation.

When the mature decision makers of the Lebanese Forces, more specifically Dr. Geagea and Dr. Kouyoumjian, realized they were facing a stubborn irresponsible person who had his personal interests at stake, they had to take a responsible decision.

According to the Ancient Testament, two women who were arguing over who was the true mother of a child, came to Solomon seeking his wise judgment. When he offered to divide the child in two with a sword, the true mother was revealed when she showed compassion and decided to give up the child rather than see him hurt.

Once again – and why should we be surprised? –, the Lebanese Forces conceded an important asset for the sake of the success of the Cedar Revolution. This should not at all reveal weakness but rather grandeur. The LF could have pursued the race for its own sake unilaterally – and even then, we would have had great chances to win. But being the true mother of the cause, it decided to sacrifice.

Dr. Kouyoumjian hasn’t left us as he has been appointed by Dr. Geagea as the LF’s official spokesperson for the elections. What happened today is something we shouldn’t be ashamed of but rather proud.

For the speech of Richard Kouyoumjian assuming responsibility of the decision with great nobility, please click on the following link:

The End of M14 or The end of Free Lebanon?

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

M8 alliance latest slogans all include reference to the end of M14 alliance this year and specifically if they lose the elections. However, and if we assume this is true, what will M8’s victory produce ?

It will “officially” drag Lebanon into the regional conflict alongside
Iran-Syria against the Americans and Israelis. We will have a government controlled by Hezbollah through its Aounist puppet ministers (and Syrian loyalists of course), and a passive army uncapable of doing anything in the presence of the so-called “resistance”. The President of the Republic will be neutral, or should i say “neutralized” and asked to give statements and that’s about it.

Unfortunatelly, the Lebanese people are not clearly seeing this whole picture cause of firstly their narrow-mindness in term of politics, whereas they keep fighting over the silliest issues, specifically Christians and their leaders who so far are failing to project a clear future plan for their followers.

Aoun wants to change, but change what and how God knows ..
Geagea wants to change the picture, but for a better or worse picture God knows, not because he wishes to have a worse picture, but is he capable of producing a better one is the question to be asked here.

Those upcoming elections will change nothing much inside Lebanon, as i have emphasized in previous posts, but it will pave the way for terminating the Christians’ role in Lebanon and abolishing the “free Lebanon” we always defended.

This is no exaggeration, this process has already started long time ago and since then the Christians themselves have been contributing to it through their internal wars and fights.

Despite my neutral (and still valid) stand on supporting M14, considering their many mistakes and incompetence, i believe the Lebanese must choose very carefully in those upcoming elections, and abstain from voting M8 if they don’t wish to vote M14, because it is their future they are voting for, and their freedom.

Hezbollah is capable of almost anything in Lebanon right now.
If he wins the elections, he will legally be able to do whatever he wants with no one capable of questioning him, specially with a Christian “facade” to protect him and a Sunnite community uncapable of taking initiatives except by financing Salafists, and here lies another big problem :-)

I read Shiites and HA supporters comments on the blog and all i see is nonchalance of the attacks against HA and some take pride in what HA is capable of, simply because they can allow themselves to behave like that, and they will sue this blog and close it if they were to take control of the government, that i can assure you.

I find it irrelevant to talk candidates-wise, because those are not elections to vote for the better electoral plan unfortunatelly, those are elections to decide on which axis Lebanon will be put regionally, and even the Americans are waiting for the upcoming results to see how to deal with us, or maybe not to deal with us at all and invite Syria back !

Uncivilized

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

“I am fond of pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals.” Winston Churchill

It is said that great countries are those that produce great people, and Lebanon had its share of great men & women, but what this quote doesn’t say is that in Lebanon’s case, those men clinched their greatness by isolating themselves from the Lebanese society or simply travelling.

I believe it is essential that we take a break from time to time from our endless political fights, to remember how “uncivilized” our country is and our people are. Yes uncivilized by all means and yet somehow Lebanese find ways to feel proud about themselves !!!!

As i enjoy reading about our history and history in general a lot, i tend to associate past events with current ones and see how we evolved through the centuries, and i can assure you that the past two months have been a clear proof that we haven’t evolved one single bit from 300 years till now.

I hear Jumblatt insulting the Maronites and i remember the 18th century and the endless fights over power in Mount Lebanon between the Druzes and Maronites.
I see feudal leaders still powerful and bribing and buying people off, and i remember the Ottoman rule and the “Za3emet”.
I see corruption, bribery, theft, distrust, and incompetence and i remember how Lebanon was created back in the 1920s.

To make things short, we are not yet a country, but groups of people joined together and being tested whether we can co-exist or not, but instead of learning how to do so, we managed to put ourselves in a vicious circle whereas two groups align together against the third one, before the third one gets help from outside, strengthens itself and brings back one of the groups with him against the first one and so on …

Some are suggesting Lebanon is turning into two major political blocs, well my sincere apologies, but you know nothing about the Lebanese, that’s for sure !

Berri & Hariri are in agreement in certain electoral regions.
Berri & Aoun are in disagreement all over the place.
Geagea & Jumblatt are half way back to their old rivalry.
Hariri & Hezbollah are breaking the ice.
Pro-Syrian & Feudal lord Michel Murr & M14 are surprisingly on the same list.
Pro-Syrian Miqati & Hariri are on the same list in Tripoli.
Jumblatt & Irslan are back in love.

and the list goes on …

Things being said, it is great citizens that can make a country great, and this is what we are lacking here. The Lebanese hide behind their leaders, and when they wanna protest against them, they boycott or leave or make themselves leaders.

Naming Beirut as 2009 World Book Capital is one of the biggest jokes i’ve heard, specially when explained as “in the light of its focus on cultural diversity, dialogue and tolerance”.

This kinda reminds me of the time Yasser Arafat was granted the Nobel Peace Prize, “for their efforts to create peace in the Middle East”

Finally, i stand at my introductionary quote :-)

Voting not for M14 .. but for Lebanon

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

It looks like electoral campaigns have started early on the blog and the heated debates are all over the place.

I remember Gebran Tueni in one of his speeches after the Cedars Revolution, asking the Lebanese whether they realized what they had just achieved.

Apparently, and until now, very few realize what a majestic achievement that was to kick the Syrians out democratically, yes democratically !!

The upcoming elections are not decisive nor will change Lebanon’s face, simply because we lost the opportunity given to us in 2005.

Who should we vote for ?

The reasons for the heated debates i am reading on the blog are simple:

- M14 supporters believe voting for M8 will lead us to a disastrous situation, and dont care whether their leaders are competent or not simply because it is not the right time for accountability.
- M8 supporters are just bashing M14ers to try gain their Christian allies some votes, as their other non-Christian votes are guaranteed by Hezbollah (by force).

Of course we’ve reached a level among M8 supporters whereas they are convinced of the choice they are forced to make, therefore reaching the highest level of brainwashing.

All the lame arguments i’ve heard from M8 members here honestly make me wonder whether you guys are reading yourselves or not.

I wont bother list them all and answer you back. You sort of remind me of the Irakis who were demanding for their rights during the American presence while they wouldnt dare open their mouth during Saddam rule.

The Cedars Revolution might have freed us from the Syrians but also gave a large chunk of Lebanese people freedom of speech that they are using and abusing in compensation of the freedom of thought which they seldom use.

You ask me who will i vote for ?

- If i were tied to a chair and a gun pointed to my head, i’d rather die than vote for M8.

- As far as M14 is concerned, i’d put a blank vote or abstain from voting.

I do want M14 to win, and i will campaign for them, only for Lebanon’s sake as the other team is a direct threat to our existence and to our families and children. However i personally cannot force myself to vote against another team, and am very far from being convinced with M14 politicians, specially the Christian ones.

This unhealthy reasoning is keeping us in a viciours circle whereas we renew the contracts of those incompetent and corrupted politicians on every occasion.

I hope and pray that if M14 were to win those elections, 2013 would generate a new class of politicians, one capable of reviving the 2005 spirit and make Gebran & Pierre & all the martyrs’ sacrifices worthy.

How will Hezbollah respond ?

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

What is happening today in Gaza is not simply a war on Hamas, but is more of a regional and local political & military card Ehud Barack (Israeli minister of defence) is playing, a card that will determine his chances of winning the upcoming Israeli elections in February 09.

Locally (Israel), fights between Olmert, Tzipi Livni and Barak are all over the Israeli papers along with the Gaza Operation reports. Olmert is “unofficially” no more in charge as Livni took control of the party’s commands and Barak is leading a war that Olmert cannot allow himself to stop.

The outcome of Gaza, specially if the IDF were to invade it, is crucial on Israel in general and on Barak’s future. Another failure like the one in Lebanon is unacceptable knowing that Barak reached the highest military ranks in the Israeli army and has an impeccable career.

Regionally speaking, Barak is as confused as we all are on the Hezbollah reaction to the Gaza operation. I am quite sure he prepared multiple contingency plans but he will be fighting the unknown as no one knows how well prepared Hezbollah is and how improved are their missiles and weapons. One thing however is for sure, is that Israel is highly prepared for a regional multi-fronts war and wants to regain its reputation at any price.

Hezbollah-wise, its leadership is facing a crucial strategic decision, as engaging in another war with Israel will relief Hamas but will reflect very negatively on Lebanon which Israel plans to destroy completly without any exception if Hezbollah is to attack.

The highly unpopular July war, despite the fake “Victory” Hezbollah pretends to have achieved, definitly is making HA’s leadership reconsider any move and the surprising events and speeches Nasrallah is giving (3 days in a row) and the terrorist party is organizing are only diversion to gain time, not to mention the unusual and unprecedented speech Nasrallah gave asking Egyptians to demonstrate against their government.

Why waste time ?
Because Iran & Syria are confused on what to do next and dont want to risk their only card against Israel, meaning Hezbollah.

Israel cannot bare another military failure, Barak cannot bare another political failure and Hezbollah cannot risk losing its Syrian & Iranian support in case it failed to counter the Israeli offensive.

A quite interesting situation that will surely take weeks, if not months before we know its outcome.

Sheikh Nadim Gemayel kicks off electoral campaign

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

On Friday the 14th of November, Sheikh Nadim Gemayel announced unofficially the start of his
electoral campaign, reassuring everyone that he is running for the upcoming 2009 elections.

Even though i thought it was too early for him to run for elections, but i believe it is a courageous move and a decisive one for him. Compared to all politicians we have right now, and all the potential ones running in the upcoming elections, no one is as clean, as honest and as straight forward as this young man is.

He might lack political experience, lack his dad’s charisma, lack several issues but he is by far the best choice when compared to other Christians running, even though i prefer not having to compare yet.

“1978 : Achrafieh, The Liberation
2009 : Achrafieh, The Change”

The son of Bashir Gemayel running for elections in Achrafieh …
This is a major event, this is a decisive one for his career and future …

Sheikh Nadim cannot lose those elections …

You have my support and i will support your candidature till elections day :-)

3a2belna

Friday, November 7th, 2008

After watching the American presidential election, I was amazed at how after months of vicious and bitter campaigning, the minute that Barrak Obama was declared president-elect, John McCain came out and said Obama would make a great president and he asked all his supporters to rally around the new president.

If that was in Lebanon, John McCain would have made a ta3en, and he would have kept fighting and bickering and would have never accepted losing.

Also, there were lines at polling stations that stretched out for blocks, and we didn’t get word of a single fight breaking out between Obama and McCain supporters.  In Lebanon, deghre bi dir l 2was.

There’s a saying in America that says “politics stop at the border”, meaning that whenever a politician goes overseas, he can’t criticize other Americans.

All I can say is 3a2belna.

Who will stop the Syrians this time ?

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

The funny & sad part about hearing our dear politicians WARN Syria of coming back to Lebanon is that everyone knows its empty talk .. wou to say more its complete bull shit !

Who will stop the Syrians this time ??? Hariri’s militia ? Sabe3’s bodyguards ?? Fatfat’s men ?

Seriously, do you expect the LF to resist them ? the LF is not armed and has no militia whatsoever ..

Who will stop them ? The Lebanese army or the chicken-loving ISF ?? LOOOL ..
Maybe another demonstration will scare them away ma hek ??

US, France, Russia, All Arab countries can do nothing about it …

More than three years since the Cedars Revolution and we somehow managed to throw this chance down the drain and give reasons for the Syrians to get back ..

This country is a joke and its people are one big joke !

PS: For aounist who will start barking and blaming M14, Aoun may still stand a chance of becoming president if Syrians are back, you should start thanking M14 & complimenting them.

Last but not least, if the Syrians were to enter Lebanon again, i am off politics for good.

Inter-Christian deadly clashes : When will we learn ?

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

Since the early 70s, rival Christian parties clashed and left behind many kills & injured. Sheikh Bashir Gemayel wanted to put an end to this in the late 70s and he almost managed to do so by uniting the militias even if he had to lead some deadly battles to do so.

In 1982, had he took over the presidency, he would have put an end once and for all to all sorts of militias in the country, but he was taken away from us sadly.

Nonetheless, since then, Christian parties never understood that disagreeing on opinions does not mean shooting at each other and killing one another, and apparently many people here are not getting my point … If i call for justice for this young man who died today, i am not saying lets go kill Sleiman Frangieh or some Marada militants, i am calling for a political reaction and a juridical one !

What happened in Bsarma ?

LFers were sticking posters for the Martyrs mass on the 21st of September in Jounieh, and shot at by Marada thug Youssef Frangieh, someone fired back and killed Youssef Frangieh. Pierre Isaac (LFer) was killed and another LFer injured. It turned out an SSNP militant was involved as well in starting the fight.

Koura has a large percentage of LFers as per the last elections, and Marada as well as SSNP have a considerable presence there. Now the reactions were as follows :

Frangieh did not blame the LF surprisingly, but blamed Farid Habib’s bodyguard who was present with the two other LFers hanging the posters, and who was armed and shot Youssef Frangieh and killed him.

Dr.Geagea surprisingly as well said it is NOT a political incident, and asked for his supporters to calm down and hinted about reconciling with Frangieh etc etc ..

I still cannot figure out how that was not a political incident, and what were the motives behind Hakim’s calm speech, nor Frangieh’s moderate PR as well, since both basically were saying that some fight occured and there were two victims and its over and lets move on …

Frangieh might not give a damn about his people, but we do and we always did, and this is the 4th LFer in 3 years killed by Marada thugs, without anyone of them being caught.

I will not go into the details since we’ve discussed them in previous posts, but i would like to shed the light on some issues that are crucial to our existence and continuity as Christians in Lebanon.

Living up to Bashir’s standards ..

Saturday, September 13th, 2008

Bashir’s posts are the hardest to write to be honest, i’ve been thinking for almost half an hour about how to start this post, but i’ve failed so far, but then maybe not introducing Bashir says a lot about this great man.

What else can be said about El Bach ??

He represents everything no Lebanese politican was, is or will ever be.

Neither the old class of politicians, nor the new class and definitly not the future generations to come will have any Bashir in it, he was a golden opportunity sent by God at a specific time and specific place to save this country, but was assassinated by men ironically on the 14th of September, which happens to be the Feat of the Triumph of the Cross.

I will take this opportunity to answer many readers who tell me that i critisize a lot and almost everything, and tell them that all my critics are not based on a personal need to do so, but on standards set by Bashir and that i will never allow myself to lower them at any cost.

When i nag about disorganization in the LF, its because its there.
When i nag about violating the LF principles, its because its happening.
When i nag about disrespecting the martyrs & turning their masses into political festivals, just watch tomorrow’s mass and the one next week and you will understand me.

When i nag about becoming dhimmists, its because Bashir fought & struggled to keep us away from dhimmitude.

On this 26th year of Bashir’s martyrdom, i would like to address Sheikh Nadim Gemayel whom i met on several occasions and saw in him Bachir’s honesty and innocence, and every young Lebanese who looks up for Bashir as a role model.

Bashir was not knowledgeable in politics & history as much as many politicians were.
Bashir did not take sessions on religions and leadership to get into politics.
Bashir did not wait for others to take initiatives.

Bashir followed his heart and his passion for his country and his Cause, and got himself surrounded by the most intelligent and credible people out there, and took the best out of them and reached the top and most importantly kept them aside him and welcomed any newbie who wished to help.

Camille Chamoun, Charles Malek, Fouad Frem el Boustani, Antoine Najm, Zahi Boustani and many many others are what drove Bashir to the top.

What is required from each of us is to look up to people smarter & more capable than us, learn from them and do better, and this mentality unfortunatelly does not exist in our society anymore. Start from your schools, your universities, your work, your life and we will have 100 000 Bashirs not just 60000.

One last word, may all those who fell with Bashir and all our martyrs rest in peace.

Prelude to War

Friday, September 5th, 2008

Lebanon these days is a powder keg; there’s a lot of tension, hate, and mistrust among Lebanese factions and between Lebanon and its neighbors and war is just around the corner.  There are three major scenarios that are the most plausible and would ignite the fuse in Lebanon.

Scenario 1: Tensions in the North.

After the clashes in and around Tripoli, things have been relatively calm lately.  But there has been a lot events happening in Akkar lately between the Sunnis and the Alawite minority.  These fights are being instigated by Syria and now there is a lot of talk that these events, like the shooting of a Sunni Sheikh in the North, are part of an huge Syrian plan to invade northern Lebanon and annex it to Syria.

The plan is to have the Alawites irritate the Sunni majority until the latter is fed up and launshes a full blown attack on Alawite villages — like the one Christians launched on Tel l Zaatar in 1976.  That’s when Syria will interfere claiming to protect the Alawite minority from extermination.  It will be helped by all of its tools in the North: Arab Party, SSNP, Baath, and HA will attack from Hermel…

When I first started hearing about this, I thought Is Bashar really this desperate to get back to Lebanon? and does he actually believe that it will work?

Scenario 2: Tensions between the Army and Hezbollah.

Twice in one week, Hezbollah has attacked army officers and killed them.  The message that Hezbollah is sending is clear: “Don’t get in our way, WE are in control”.

I don’t know how long will the army tolerate this.  If these attacks continue, tensions will further rise between the army and Hezbollah, and soon there will be tensions within the army itself.  Unless Hezbollah stops these attacks – which have been viewed by many as a declaration of war — we are certainly headed for a clash between some army factions and Hezbollah.

Scenario 3: Tensions between Hezbollah and Israel.

After the last prisoner swap, Israelis have been feeling angry and defeated.  Since then, they have been threatening that they are going to end Hezbollah and fight the “last war with Lebanon”…  On the other hand, Hezbollah has been updating and upgrading its military capabilities and is looking forward to a new war to prove its new strengths, once the green light comes from Iran.

The Israelis say they are going to attack all of Lebanon this time around seeing that the new government legitimized the ‘resistance’, which means that the Lebanese will suffer more and face more death and destruction.

Any one of these possibilities is terrifying, but I’m afraid war is imminent and it’s only a matter of time.  I guess that’s the curse that Lebanon suffers from.  Will it ever live in peace?

Appeasing Hezballah

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Appeasement is “the policy of settling international quarrels by admitting and satisfying grievances through rational negotiation and compromise, thereby avoiding the resort to an armed conflict which would be, expensive, bloody and possibly dangerous.”

In other words, it is simply giving in to an agressor’s demands in order to avoid conflict.

When I look back in history at the biggest and most common example of appeasement — England and France’s appeasement of Hitler — I can’t help but notice that we are facing the same situation here in Lebanon:

Let’s say that the French and British who were victorious in WWI are the M14 alliance which was victorious on March 14.  And let’s say that Hitler is Hezballah.

Thirty years ago in Lebanon, the Shi’ite community was largely neglected and was living in poverty and misery. Then Hezballah took control of that community promising a better life and more rights…  That’s the same way Hitler came to power; promising a defeated and humiliated German population to reclaim its dignity and rightfull place atop the world.

He then started to violate the Treaty of Versailles — but the British and French didn’t do anything about it, to avoid another devastating war in Europe.

The Nazis’ first violations were small and insignificant like the remilitarization of the Rhineland and the rearming of the German army with heavy weapons.  England complained but did little else.

Then came the annexation of Austria.  Which was a big deal — but again,  the French and English didn’t do much seeing that Austria wanted to be annexed (or added to Germany).

Hitler was doing all of this under the excuse of uniting the German-speaking people in one country.  Just like Hezballah is keeping its weapons under the cover of ‘resistance’.

Then Hitler set his eyes on the Sudetenland, a mountainous region of Czechoslovakia which is inhabited by German-speaking Czechs.  The British, French, and Czechs weren’t happy about that.  So to settle the argument, the Munich Conference was held.  Let’s say this Munich Conference is the Doha Agreement.  All parties returned from Munich with relief and proudly claimed that they spared Europe another devastating war — just like M14 claimed to have spared Lebanon another vicious civil war.

Neville Chaimberlan proudly told the British people: ”My good friends, for the second time in our history a British Prime Minister has returned from Germany bringing peace with honour. I believe it is peace for our time.”  Oh how naive does that sound now.

Hitler had signed an agreement with the Soviets as well, assuring that he won’t attack them.  In that deal, the Nazis and Soviets also secretly agreed to partition Poland amongst themselves.  The Soviets were proud of that deal and claimed that it will protect them from Nazi aggression. ;)

A few months later, Hitler invaded Poland and the rest is history.

The Nazis ate up most of Europe, invaded France and the Soviet Union, and went way beyond uniting the German-speaking peoples of Europe.  WWII was the deadliest conflict mankind has ever seen and caused Europe years of suffering, misery, and death.

The moral of the story is: Stop appeasing Hezbollah!  They’re lying!  And giving in to their demands is just another Aspirin pill that we’re giving to Lebanon; it’s not going to solve the problem.

Will we ever live in Peace?

HERE WE GO AGAIN :D !!

After countless Israeli wars with armed groups in Lebanon, it appears that a new conflict is imminent and is coming very soon.  Hezbollah is just waiting for that perfect timing that they always surprise us with, and Israel is already preparing and deploying troops and setting battle plans.

Which leads me to a question that asks itself (sou2al byotra7 nafso :D ): Will we ever have peace with Israel?

All the other ‘Arab’ countries are starting economic partnerships with Israel, trading with the Hebrews, Opening embassies…Heck! even Syria is negotiating with them.

But Lebanon is still “the first country to resist and the last to sign a peace treaty!”.  Well good for us!  We’re still attached to the ‘Arab Cause’ and we’re going to throw those evil Jews in the sea, and free Palestine, and return Jerusalem to the Arabs!

We went from being the pioneers of the Middle East in everything from economics to entertainment…to a backwards society living in a devastated war-zone that is proud to destroy itself and do things that are not in its interest just to help another people who was the main contributor in the destruction of Lebanon and just to stick to the issue of ‘Arabism’ that never existed in the first place and that even the actual Arabs have abandonned.

Our disputes with Israel can no longer be solved with ‘resistance’.  An agreement can be reached between the two parties without a single shot being fired.  And seeing that the Bush Administration is seeking to leave office on any good note, I think that they would be glad to help us reach a deal.

It will be something similar to Egypt’s agreement with Israel:

  • They return the Sheb’a Farms directly to Lebanon.
  • They turn over the maps of the mines that they planted in the South.
  • The U.S. can send Significant military aid to the LAF, just like it sends $2 Billion in aid every year to Egypt. ( That way Hezbollah can no longer claim that the army isn’t capable of defending Lebanon)

And in return, Israel will of course get the disarmament of Hezbollah and the recognition by Lebanon of the State of Israel.

We have nothing to lose and everything to gain by signing a peace treaty.  It’s about time we make peace.  Mch daroure kll snten nekoul atle and have to start all over.
