Scratching out the “Resistance clause”

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Eh walla sa7 el nom !

I don’t know when this masquerade M14 leaders are playing at the national dialogue will end, but i hope soon enough because it is a complete waste of time.

M14 WON the elections, and voluntarily LEGALIZED Hezbollah weapons in the Ministerial statement. Now it’s a controversial point ?

And who’s the one who first asked for it ? Crying Baby Sanioura ! that sissy who didn’t have the guts to come out and defend his own people when Hezbollah was invading Beirut.

On another note, I want to ask Pr.Sleiman why was Sanioura invited in the first place ??

As my good friend nora would say, MASKHARA !

Our great Army !

[Original Article from lebanonfiles]

Translated by myself:

Army Sergeant H. was heading to his village in the Bekaa, when he was surprised to see an army checkpoint. Instead of stopping, he speeded and stormed through the checkpoint forcing the soldiers to shoot at the vehicle and stop him.

35 artillery rockets and ammunition for machine guns as well as a Fal machine gun were found in the car. Checkbooks were also founds and passport pictures of two young men from the South & Baalbeck.

Imagine if this guy was caught by mistake, how many got away with whatever they were doing.

No one will give it much attention of course, because this army soldier could be supportive of the resistance and arming himself to face the Israelis in the upcoming war. How can we deny him this right?

Let’s focus instead on spreading rumors on the LF smuggling drugs in Elie Keyrouz’s car or getting military trainings in Meerab, or setting up checkpoints in the heart of Keserwan to arrest minors driving their old folks’ cars. Those are the real threat to Lebanon’s security and sovereignty.

Irrational Behavior …

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

I’ve been repeating this for years now and it still irritates me when i talk about it.

Why doesn’t Samir Geagea open all cases related to the LF and clear his name and the party’s name once and for all ? Why doesn’t he use the ministry of justice that is in his hands to put an end to those false and shameful trials the LF was submmited to during the Syrian hegemony ?

There is nothing more frustrating than hearing a criminal and filthy individual like Jamil el Sayyid attacking Samir Geagea and the LF while each of us know his direct implication in the Saydit el Najet Church bombing.
Added to that, every now and then, we hear Omar Karameh accuse Geagea of being a criminal and killing his brother.

The LF should not answer those low-lifes by issuing press releases but in court.

We are talking about post-1990 assassinations that the LF had nothing to do with. If today is not the time to open those cases and clear the party’s image, when is it then ? what is Hakim waiting for ?

Mich chatreen 2ella lawsuits against Kandil and Wahhab on some pointless statements. What they, the LF, are missing though, is that no one would dare say a word about the LF if the cases are officially re-open and taken to justice.

A few questions from the heart…

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Over the last five years I have seen so many things that prompt me to want to write what will follow…so here goes:

Day and night we hear accusations by Oranges about how the LF committed horrible crimes and how the LF shelled them and how the LF kidnapped them etc etc etc.

Now, I don’t know how it escaped them but during the same war, Syria did the same thing.

SSNP did the same thing.
Baath did the same thing.
Amal did the same thing.

It is funny that most of the crimes attributed to the current LF were in fact committed by Hobeika with a direct influence from Syria and some of the parties in M8 today.

Needless to mention the ties that linked aoun and Hobeika throughout the later part of the 80s.

It is also funnier when one considers that what the LF was accused for back in 1989 is today being perpetrated by HA and other members of M8: weapons outside the control of the army, drug dealing etc etc etc…

National Dialogue: What for?

Monday, March 1st, 2010

President Suleiman announced yesterday the participants of the new round of national dialogue, but i keep asking myself why do they keep bothering with time-consuming and pointless dialogues ??

- First of all, in order to make a successfull dialogue, you need a strong moderator and a few selected number of participants, not all the warlords feudal lords out there, no moderators and one intellectual.

- Second, a dialogue needs more professors and intellectuals rather than politicians. I only see one professor, Fayez al-Hajj Chahine and he was chosen as a representative from Zahle instead of its Mps which stirred strong and well-placed criticism. Why make Zahle an exception and not other regions ?

- Third, What will be discussed during this dialogue ? Shouldn’t one announce the program of such dialogue before naming its participants ?

The last national dialogue session was held on June 1 ahead of the parliamentary elections.

- Fourth, Were the results of the last national dialogue posted ? Did we achieve any progress ? Who is providing the feedback for such things ? the presidency media ?

I salute Pr.Sleiman’s initiative, but people will just laugh at him if he doesn’t show them they are getting somewhere with this national dialogue, not just passing time and increasing expenses. Talking about cost, just imagine the security measures and personnel needed each time Samir Geagea, Michel Aoun, Sleiman Frangieh, Nabih Berri, Saad Hariri and Elias el Murr need to make the move.

Qassem: We’re the Majority

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

I would love to see how those who commented on my analysis of Nasrallah’s speech comment on that.

“We won’t be shaken by the objections of some sides on the resistance because we represent a substantive majority among the Lebanese people,” Qassem stressed at a Hizbullah educational conference.

Majority based on what ? Isn’t the Constitution clear enough on this manner ? As far as i know, Hezbollah LOST and acknowledged their loss in the 2009 elections.

“If some want to discuss the defensive strategy through media outlets, we tell them that we will hear their screaming without answering them.”

Of course by some of them, he means many who were elected by the people and are in the parliament now. A militia not wishing to answer its state representatives. Lovely !

On the other hand, Qassem said that “European passport holders may represent a threat to Lebanon, which requires special measures to protect the Lebanese people.”

What measures and who will implement them ? Are we going to witness more kidnappings then ?

Jumblatt Playing us …

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Till when will Christians allow themselves to be played and tricked by Jumblatt ??
When will our leaders understand this man wants everything but strong Christians in Lebanon ?

Let us trace back some events and see how Jumblatt coped with them:

From 1994 till 2004: Loyal to the Syrians and happily persecuting the Christian leaderships and their supporters.

Cedars Revolution 2005: He turns against Syria, allies with March14 forces but makes sure its Christians are kept weak by hammering Aoun (causing an Anti-Jumblatt Pro-Aoun phenomenem since Geagea was still in prison)

2009 elections: he loses his Christian seats to the M14 Christians and decides to reposition himself outside M14 but keeps Hariri close.

Next thing you know he is hammering Geagea & Gemayel and praising Aoun. Nowadays, he wishes to resolve the Mountain issue with Aoun and let him score points against M14 Christians.

That way, Christians are kept divided, the displaced are kept displaced as Jumblatt will never let Christians come back. Geagea & Aoun, despite all their differences, should be smart enough to recognize those “cons” Jumblatt is performing and know how to beat him at his own game, unless of course they don’t give a damn about the displaced in the Mountain.

Analyzing Nasrallah’s Speech …

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Since we were apparently unprofessional in handling Hassan Nasrallah’s speech, according to some blog readers, i will gladly go through the whole speech paragraph per paragraph.

To be credible, here is the source of my speech (PartI,PartII) , a neutral source so that no one says the source is unreliable.

I will skip the introduction that is filled with Koranic verses and reflects Hezbollah’s Islamic ideology, plus the condoleances to the Ethiopian plane crash victims.

He wishes to discuss how to handle issues related to Hezbollah and his cause in Lebanon. No mention of coordination with the state or Lebanese parties on those issues.
Fet7een 3a 7seboun
Let us not overgeneralize though and read the rest of the speech.

What Hassan Nasrallah keeps on forgetting …

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

Nasrallah’s speech yesterday was no different than the previous ones, threatening left and right, announcing the acquisition of new weapons and missiles and of course promising more destruction to Israel …. and to Lebanon.

“If Israel strikes Dahiyeh, we will strike Tel Aviv. You destroy a Dahiyeh building and we will destroy buildings in Tel Aviv,” Nasrallah warned.

He threatened the Israelis that if they bombard Beirut’s Rafik Hariri International Airport, Hizbullah will bombard Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport.

Who cares if Hezbollah is capable of bombing Ben Gurion International airport (even though i am confident this is complete B.S) ??

Who will rebuild Lebanon if it is destroyed again ?? How many times will the international community donate money to help us out ?

Moreover, what Hezbollah keeps forgetting is that even if Israel fails to defeat or eliminate Hezbollah, they will gladly destroy Lebanon and kill its people. How does that count as a victory ?

Gladly though, the current political and geopolitical circumstances are not in favour of a new war, but such speeches definitly do not reassure us about the nearby future.

Finally, It is truly disturbing to see hundreds of thousands of Lebanese cheer for someone promising them more destruction and death, but then again that’s what terrorists and criminal leaders are best at, brainwashing people.

Lebanese Women & Nationality Law

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Lebanon’s present nationality law allows men to pass on their nationality to non-Lebanese wives and children one year after their marriage is registered, but prohibits Lebanese women married to non-Lebanese from doing the same.

Those who oppose granting women nationality rights often argue that the law is aimed at resettling Palestinian refugees and that the naturalization of thousands of Palestinian men and children would tip Lebanon’s delicate sectarian balance in favor of Sunni Muslims, the religion of the majority of the country’s 400,000 Palestinian refugees. [Original Article from the Daily Star]

A study conducted by the National Committee for the Follow up on Women’s Issues (CFUWI) showed that only 2% of Lebanese women are married to Palestinians, and that there is no real threat of naturalizing a large number of Palestinians by changing the law.

However, i beg to differ as no credible statistics are available about the number of Palestinians in Lebanon to begin with, not to mention the Lebanese who live in isolated and far away villages and that do not register their weddings.

Changing the law nowadays is unhealthy unless Palestinians are excluded from it, but i can already see people inventing ways around the law considering how corrupt this country is.

Therefore, even though i am 100% with giving this right to Lebanese women, but i think this is a bad timing to do it and it is the wrong start. This is like asking to remove political sectarianism without decentralizing the country and secularising the people. You can’t start a building with a window. You need strong bases to begin with.

Flight 409 Disaster: A terrorist attack ?

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

I’ve been following up the investigation related to the plane crash and i don’t understand why a terrorist plot was not considered by the Lebanese authorities. In fact, they ruled it out since the first minute, starting with the Lebanese President Michel Suleiman.

But looking at the facts, i don’t see why it wouldn’t be a terrorist attack !
- The plane was a new one and last checkup was made recently in December.
- Ethiopian airlines are very reliable and never had a crash ever, except for the one time when the plane was hijacked by terrorists and ran out of fuel and crashed.
- The plane crashed only 2 minutes after it took off. It can’t be thunder as the plane is equipped for such things. It can’t be a mechanical problem as i’ve never heard of a plane exploding in mid-air cause of a mechanical problem.

I googled “plane explodes in mid-air” and most of the cases i found were very old incidents, dating back to 1959, 1981 etc …

The most recent similar incidents were one in Ukraine, but it was said the plane was shot down, and the famous AirFrance to Brazil which disappeared in the Ocean.

Interestingly enough, they mention the reasons why a plane would disintegrate in mid-air or explode. Depressurisation can do that, and is caused by failure of the pressure control system, reduced cabin air inflow or structural failure such as an open door, a cracked window or a hole caused by a bomb. The structure can also disintegrate if the G-forces during a dive are more than the plane can cope with.

Professor Philippe Juvin, of Beaujon Hospital, west of Paris, said: “It would have been as quick as the moment when one falls asleep.”

One unnamed Air France pilot suggested a bomb could “very well” have been the cause of the crash.

“One can very well imagine that a bomb caused the aircraft’s depressurisation and that the plane took time to break up,” he said. “It could just as well have been a big bomb that blew up the entire plane, which would explain why the aircraft didn’t have time to send an alert signal.”

So let’s not rule out any scenario here, because the plane was barely off the ground when the tragedy occured. I guess the black box will tell us everything in few days or more. I am worried though that the true results be hidden if it turns out to be a terrorist attack indeed.

A question …

Monday, January 25th, 2010

This has been a very tragic day for all of us here in Lebanon, but also for families in Ethiopia.

I have a question to all the Lebanese authorities and Lebanese news portals:

Why was a list including all the Lebanese on board of that plane put all over the internet and none listing all the passengers, including the 24 ethiopians ?

I looked all over the internet for a full list and couldn’t find one.

NO to lowering the voting age !

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

Now that this topic is arising once again prior to the municipal elections, i find myself obliged to point out the dangers of lowering the voting age to 18 in Lebanon.

I posted about this topic almost a year ago and it still stands.

I find absolutely no advantages to such a measure except for our rotten class of politicians who now have easier targets to control and brainwash. Our youth in its large majority lacks political awareness and knowledge, not to mention historical information, and this is manifested in the universities and the incidents that occur there as well as on online forums and blogs where you find 16 and 17 year old supporters fighting blindly and stupidly.

Based on that, any rational and conscious government should promote awareness among the youth and enlighten them on the past and guide them towards striving excellence in education and professional levels. But this is Lebanon and i am dreaming of course that such measures be adopted !

Instead, “minzeed el teen balle” as the Lebanese proverb says, and inject the political fights further into the schools and universities by lowering the voting age to 18.

Some people are saying this law is favorable to Hezbollah and the Shiite community, but numbers show that it doesnt really change anything, except the fact that now political parties are more willing to invest in schools and universities and mess up young people’s lifes to get their votes.

I consider myself as a person who matured early and got involved in politics at a very young age relatively, however i realized with every additional year how unexperienced and unaware i was when i was 18 and until 20 or 21 … University years are crucial for every young Lebanese to forge his character, to enhance his knowledge and to dream of a prosperous future. Instead, now we will have more students failing their classes and beating up each others kermel Nasrallah wou Hariri wou Geagea wou Aoun.

This is a truly sad story, and this country is proving more and more to be a complete joke.

Lebanese Army ? What Army ?

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

Sarkozy undermines the Lebanese army and it is Hezbollah who answers !
Where is Michel Sleiman to answer ? Where is our army commander to defend the army’s pride, or whatever is left of that pride ?

Sarkozy: France Won’t Provide Lebanon with Gazelle Missiles for Fear They Could Reach Hizbullah

French military commanders, however, voiced fear that such missiles could end up in Hizbullah hands and used in war against Israel.

Hezbollah answers Kouchner and Sarkozy:
Hizbullah: Kouchner’s Stances Colluded with Israel, France Must Actualize Keenness on Lebanon

Hizbullah concluded its press release by condemning “the colluded and unbalanced” stances of Kouchner, urging the French government to “play a role matching with the responsibility, which it has always claimed to practice, concerning keenness on the security of Lebanon and its sovereignty.”

Hezbollah speaking of sovereignty and security of Lebanon …how ironic !

We’ve been hearing talks about an upcoming war for months now, but as i stated earlier and repeat, no one will be spared in the next one, and not even Sarkozy can guarantee us Israel won’t destroy our infrastructure.

Switching sides ..

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Update: here are two links that will clarify why Hezbollah is a terrorist party for those same brainwashed and disoriented “switching-sides” people out there.
Definition of Terrorism
How Hezbollah is a terrorist party ..

In the “Hezbollah playing on dangerous ground” post, the debate went off-topic and turned into a heated argument on the LF and its history and was triggered by a member who claims to have been in the LF since 1995 and switched sides in 2005.

I can stand people critisizing the LF or any other party, as i do it myself and consider it healthy and constructive, but what i can’t bear are people “mich 3arfeen Allah wen 7atetoun”.

The LF has been the same since its foundation, principles-wise. Its leaders changed, their politics changed but the LF manifesto is still the same and LF principles are intact. If you don’t like Samir Geagea or Bashir Gemayel, you don’t quit the LF, you become a pro-LFer or a sympathizer. You definitly don’t become a Aounist or an SSNP or the rest of that trash!

Moreover, Most of the arguments such “phenomenal” individuals present are distorted and biased.
- The LF in the 80s had the biggest majority of the Christian Elite and Christian businessmen supporting it.
- The LF students nowadays are winning elections in the most renowned universities.
- The LF always had the biggest student body organization among other parties.
- The Biggest Christian intellectuals (Charles Malek, Fouad Frem El Boustani, Antoine Najm etc etc …) are supportive of the LF principles.
- The LF did not commit 1% of war crimes compared to what Aoun and his army did to the LF and the Lebanese.
( And i denouce all war crimes FYI)

And the list goes on and on …

I am not proud of the LF nowadays as an organization and leadership. I do not consider myself an LFer as in affiliated with the current LF party, but that doesn’t stop me from staying loyal to the principles and political thought.

When Samir Geagea was asked about his opinion about Antoun Saadeh, he answered that he respected the guy simply because he stayed loyal to his principles, no matter how wrong or right they were, until his death.

Ironically enough, the only politicians nowadays still loyal to their principles are the Pro-Syrians, but i don’t think they are so by choice :-)

Lebanese Authorities Ban French Book on Hariri Murder

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

UPDATE: Thank you Maroun for the PR you posted. Apparently, the book was not banned. The only way to verify this now is by checking Lebanese Libraries and asking for the book.

Welcome to Hezbollaland !
So what if Hezbollah is accused in the book? how is this a justifiable argument to ban the book ?

The Lebanese Forces are accused in tons of books of murders they had nothing to do with, yet i don’t see them banning books and violating the simplest of freedoms, the freedom of opinion ?

Lebanese authorities banned a French book titled “La Liste Hariri” from entering Lebanon, the French daily Le Figaro revealed on Wednesday.
The book, written by French author Gérard de Villiers, included information hinting to the involvement of a top Shiite Lebanese leader in murdering the late premier Rafik Hariri in 2005.
The Lebanese General Security considered the information mentioned in the book as an accusation to Hizbullah with murdering Hariri, according to Le Figaro.

Peace at what price ?

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

What is the price Saad Hariri has to pay for his visit to Syria ?
Will the Tribunal be compromised ?
Will Lebanon’s freedom be threatened again?
Will it strenghten M8 parties ? mainly Hezbollah ?

The Special Tribunal for Lebanon witnessed its second resignation in few months, after Registrar David Tolbert resigned yesterday, following Chief of Investigation Naguib Kaldas who surprised everyone by submitting his resignation earlier this month.

Added to that, chances that Syrian officials be linked to the assassination are diminishing specially after the latest report that hinted about terrorists behind this murder.

Having said all that, it appears we are heading towards blaming the Palestinian armed groups for everything, and thereby having an alibi for storming the camps and disarming what’s left of them.

Why the Palestinians ? Syria refuses to weaken Hezbollah at the moment but doesn’t give a damn about some Al-Qaeda militants inside the Palestinian camps or even about Ahmad Jibril as he serves no political purpose anymore.

In sum, Hariri wants peace as everyone does (except Hezbollah & Israel), but it might cost us the Cedars Revolution achievements, mainly the Special Tribunal for Lebanon and therefore any chance of justice being served, and our political freedom as the Syrian role was reinstated after Hariri’s visit to Damascus.

To Ban or not to ban “LOL” …

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

I wasn’t aware of this program until lately, considering i barely watch any local TVs.

It is a show broadcasted on Otv, called “LOL” and consists of few people sitting on a round table and telling all sorts of jokes.

I wasn’t aware of the content of those jokes until i saw the show few days ago, and i honestly found it vulgar and boring and barely laughed at any joke. Also, i was surprised to hear so many “below the belt” jokes.

It appears OTV is desperate for more viewers, mainly young viewers who will have loads of dirty jokes to tell their friends the next day.

Now i am unaware of the Lebanese law concerning such unethical shows, but despite hearing many people asking for its ban, i am personally against censorship to begin with, and the show must go on IMHO.

On a final note, i find it ironic that Hezbollah is not annoyed by such a show, but organizes riots and burns tyres when their chief is immitated in a political show. Talk about ethics and double standards :-)

Heading towards war or peace ?

Monday, January 4th, 2010

Despite all the reconciliations happening in the region and in Lebanon, a new round between Hamas-Hezbollah and Israel seems imminent, maybe in the next few months, or maybe years.

I hope i am wrong but things are way too good to be true, and Palestinians seem to be the scapegoat of this new war, mainly the Palestinian militias in Lebanon.

Hamas leader was visiting KSA last week, Mahmoud Abbas doing several visits to Arab countries, Jumblatt reconciling with Wahhab, Syria happy with getting its role back, all happy except M14 Christians, and they have every right not to be ( eventhough they are to be blamed partially for bringing Syria back.)

Hezbollah seems relaxed and worried at the same time, same for Israel … but both are fully prepared and equipped and waiting ….

Until then, we can enjoy our lives and prepare a backup plan for the dark days to come.

After all, peace only comes after a war.

Who’s Mo?

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

I know it’s really silly to visit tayyar.org on daily basis but I really can’t help it. That news site is a gift from God for all those who either like to spit or to laugh a lot. Comparing Hassan and Hussein fatality to Jesus Christ crucifix by Michel Aoun wasn’t really that shock for me, simply because Aoun is almost 80 years old and he’s losing it sometimes. But reading the 2010 expectations by the analytical expert Mo :) made me believe that his office was at the Beau Rivage. Enjoy!!!
