Abolishing Political Sectarianism

Monday, November 30th, 2009

“Political sectarianism is blocking the development of the Lebanese political regime and standing as an obstacle in the face of a democracy where the majority rules and the minority opposes,” stressed Nasrallah and added that abolishing political sectarianism is a “basic condition” for the implementation of the majority-minority rule.

When reading this quote, Hezbollah is the last party that comes in mind, yet this quote is one of many in Hassan Nasrallah’s speech yesterday, where he announced the party’s new manifesto.

So what’s new about this manifesto ? Absolutely nothing, except more hypocrisy, lies and a failed attempt to tone down the Islamic Rethoric.

Only a fool, or someone following blindly Michel Aoun, would believe for a second that the party of GOD, the Islamic resistance (previously revolution) in Lebanon wants to abolish political sectarianism and work for a secular united Lebanon.

Nonetheless, this is not the first time we hear about abolishing political sectarianism and definitly not the last from the Shiite leaders. Nabih Berri never misses an opportunity without bringing it up, and Hezbollah has been hinting at it for a while now.

The reasons are plently behind those demands and can be resumed as follows:
- Shiite parties have always relied on demographics and the capacity to increase their influence by increasing their numbers.
- The divisions within the Christian community are ideal for such demands, as it will make HA’s mission to take over the country politically much easier.
- Hezbollah fears federalism and division as both scenarios will isolate further the Shiite community.

Christians must be very aware of the consequences of such demands and stand up to Hezbollah and point out his true intentions. The terrorist party is playing a very smart ideological game and knows time is on his side.

As for the rest of the points in the manifesto, it is the same old speech we hear at every occasion.

- Recognizing the role of the Lebanese army and praising Lebanon’s sovereignty, knowing that Hezbollah killed an army officer not long time ago and invaded Beirut and undermined the army’s presence not so long time ago as well.

- Demanding a consistent fight of corruption and more competence in the government organizations, while they have their own mini-republic and never bother paying taxes or bill.

- And of course the “Death to America, Death to Israel” slogans to fuel the large crowds.

Mosque Minarets banned in Switzerland

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Knowing that the Muslim population of Switzerland constitutes 4%, i am not sure if this is a good decision or not to be honest. Freedom of thought and religion are sacred in Europe, but so is secularism.

If you read the article below, you will notice how subjective and one-sided the author is, and how stupid was the reaction of some of the Muslim community throughout the world (boycotting swiss products for example).

I posted this on purpose to prove a very valid point in which i might agree with the Swiss on this decision:
- Why can’t a swiss practice Christianity in a muslim country but a muslim finds it insulting that he can’t build mosques minarets in Switzerland ?

Dubai, Qatar and KSA have plenty of Christians living there, yet i don’t see them complaining about practicing religion because they respect those nations’ laws.

Why can’t Muslims do the same in Europe ? Why Isolate themselves instead of integrating the society ?

PS: Next thing you know, they will ask Switzerland to change its flag because it has a cross on it !!

What the whole world calls prostitution, Hezbollah calls divine sex lol !

[Full Article]

Mohammad, a 40-year old Lebanese Shiite who lives in Hezbollah’s stronghold in Beirut’s southern suburbs, was holding forth on the virtues of resistance, loyalty, and sex. “You could create the most loyal army by providing political power, social services and fulfilling the desires of your men — namely, sexual ones,” he declared.

“And Hezbollah has been very successful in this regard,” Mohammad continued. It is hard to disagree. Hezbollah liberated South Lebanon from Israeli occupation, expanded the Shiite community’s political power within the country, and has provided social services, such as health care and education, to its constituency since the 1980s. Today, it is also working to fulfill the sexual needs of its supporters, though a practice known as mutaa marriage.

It is, of course, not only men who take advantage of mutaa. Zahra, a fully veiled 25 year-old Shiite woman who is completing her master’s degree in English literature, comes from a family of Hezbollah supporters and party members, and has been a lifelong Hezbollah member herself. She explained that she practices temporary marriage because it is a religious duty.
“I take good care of myself, and make sure I look perfect every time I go into a mutaa marriage because I should please my husband, temporary or not,” she said. “It is my religious duty to do so. God allowed this kind of marriage for a reason, and I never question God’s wishes.”Zahra is divorced and believes that Islam has acknowledged sexual desires for both males and females, which is why temporary marriage is permissible. “It is also a religious duty to fulfill your sexual desires,” she insisted, noting that temporary marriages with women whose husbands had been killed fighting Israel were especially encouraged. “[T]hose who satisfy widows of martyrs have more reward in heaven,” she said.

Syria : Has it won?

Nov 26th 2009 | DAMASCUS
From The Economist print edition

Under its surprisingly durable leader, Syria has stubbornly nudged its way back into the heart of regional diplomacy. It can no longer be ignored.

D4809MA1

SIX years ago, President Bashar Assad looked weak, stumbling and isolated. In the words of the neoconservatives dominant in Washington after the conquest of Iraq, his regime was “low-hanging fruit”. Its fall would complete a circle of Western influence in the area, with Turkey, a NATO member, to the north-west and Israel to the south. The decline of Syria seemed to hasten when, after it was widely blamed in 2005 for the murder of Lebanon’s five-times prime minister, Rafik Hariri, it ignominiously lost its place as master of its small neighbour. Only Iran, among Syria’s friends, stood fast against the West. Yet now the position has drastically changed. Mr Assad is increasingly viewed as an essential part of the region’s diplomatic jigsaw. He is fast coming back into the game. Even America would like to embrace him.

LF must quit the government !

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

The ministerial committee finalized the political section of the ministerial statement on Wednesday amid reservations by M14 Christians ministers. [More]

There is not one single valid reason why the LF should stay in this government. I debated this issue longly with a friend of mine and honestly, the LF staying in the government means politically admitting HA’s resistance and its right to be armed.

All those reservations and statements by LF officials are meaningless and are a joke if not followed by actions.

LF and its leader Samir Geagea are betraying their own principles (at least the LF principles i know of) if they stay in the government. It is as simple as that.

PS: It is worthy mentioning that the constitutional council ruled out any bribery during the past elections in Matn. What a joke !

Investment scandal damages Hezbollah

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

The Washington Post | By Alia Ibrahim

Suleiman’s brother was a Hezbollah fighter, killed in the 2006 war with Israel. His house was destroyed by an Israeli shell. And now, his life’s fortune is gone, too, lost along with the money of thousands of other Lebanese who put their faith in a billionaire financier with close ties to Hezbollah.

The investment scheme, which is being called the Lebanese version of the Bernie Madoff scandal, threatens to tarnish the Shiite group’s carefully cultivated image as a pious defender of the masses that is above the corruption endemic in many of Lebanon’s political parties.

We welcome the challenge

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

Once again those who love Lebanon as a democratic, independent and open nation are in the gun sights of Syria. As Hariri and Jumblatt follow the likes of Aoun and Hizballah to kiss the robes of the Syrian Dictator, the Lebanese Forces members and myriad other like-minded Lebanese are left to bear the aspirations of our martyrs.

This is not an unfamiliar place. We have been here since as long as we can recall. The line we follow is unwavering; We accept nothing less than an independent and free voice in this middle east. We look for tolerance and religious expression. We seek free markets and financial prosperity. We relish connections with all nations and all cultures. We want a stable powerful country that allows for all its citizens ideals.

Those who seek to silence us are many and worse among them are those who claim to be Lebanese.

I wonder what kind of a person accepts to visit Syria when so many Lebanese are unaccounted for in Syrian jails and graves?

I wonder what kind of a person accepts to have a militia doing the bidding of a foreign country within his own nation’s borders?

I wonder what kind of person accepts foreign funds to fuel hatred within his country?

I wonder what kind of person accepts to be a second class citizen in his own country?

I will not bother one moment with the so called Leaders who most Lebanese follow blindly. I ask the citizen directly; what lies in your heart? Where is your dignity? Where is your self respect?

When will you begin to make decisions based on your country’s best interests?

Those of us who understand the words that I write know that Lebanon will never be free from these traitors until the citizen learns to think for himself; learns to see his Nation as precious, as fragile, as a treasure.

Until that time, we remain as guardians of this hope and this vision. We remain dignified under attack and resolute under fire. We will not bend and we will not back down. We will have a Free Lebanon for the Lebanese or we will die trying.

Lebanon cabinet deal signals Syrian return

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009
By Natalia Antelava
BBC News, Beirut

A new joke has been making the rounds in political circles of Beirut: “The birth of Lebanon’s new government was so long and painful that in the end, a Caesarean had to be performed.”

But it is the punchline that makes some politicians here cringe: “The obstetrician was Syria,” it says.

“We are back to the Syrian hegemony,” said one pro-Western politician who did not want to be identified.

Hezbollah still holds power despite losing the election.
The weekly Standard | by Peter Berkowitz
11/30/2009, Volume 015, Issue 11

“If you think you understand Lebanon,” a friend counseled me as I prepared for my first trip to her native land, “somebody’s just explained it badly.” Six days in Lebanon confirmed her wisdom. They also confirmed that the United States can ill afford to neglect this tiny, beautiful, strife-ridden country, which is in the Arab world but not entirely of it, and which since the 1980s has served as a battleground in Iran’s quest for hegemony in a region critical to vital American national security interests.

Druze MK: Don’t trust UN ‘Doll’ soldiers to protect Israel

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Source : Arutz Sheva | by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu

Likud Knesset Member Ayoub Kara, a member of the Druze community, has vowed to “fight with my last drop of blood” against Israel’s abandoning the northern border village of Ghajar to United Nations and Hizbullah.

The international border divides the village, whose Israeli residents have expressed fears of being forced to come under the rule of southern Lebanon, where Hizbullah is the de facto authority. A ministerial committee has recommended withdrawing from the village, a move that MK Kara said would “complicate Israel’s security in the north.” United Nations officials told Lebanese media they have not been informed of any Israeli decision to withdraw from Ghajar.

Obama’s nice guy act gets him nowhere on the world stage

Der Spiegel | By Gabor Steingart

When he entered office, US President Barack Obama promised to inject US foreign policy with a new tone of respect and diplomacy. His recent trip to Asia, however, showed that it’s not working. A shift to Bush-style bluntness may be coming.

Israel keeps mum on Lebanese firing at drone

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Israel is refusing to comment on claims from Beirut that the Lebanese military fired at an unmanned Israeli aircraft on Saturday, forcing the drone to leave the Lebanese air space.

An Israeli official who spoke to Xinhua on condition of anonymity declined to discuss the Lebanese action, but did try to put Beirut’s claims in a broader context.

“Israel has no hostile intentions whatsoever regarding Lebanon, and the key to peace is the full implementation of UN Security Council resolutions that call on Hezbollah to be disarmed. This is the obligation of the Lebanese government and the international community,” said the official.

The Lebanese military said that the unmanned plane was flying at medium altitude over southern Lebanon, not far beyond the border between the two countries.

Israel looks toward IDF pullout from Lebanon border village

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Source : Haaretz | By Barak Ravid

Senior cabinet ministers, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, decided on Sunday to work toward a withdrawal of the Israel Defense Forces from the northern portion of the village of Ghajar on Israel’s border with Lebanon.

The ministers of the cabinet’s “forum of seven” are to recommend to the security cabinet to adopt the plan of UNIFIL commander Claudio Graziano to have UN troops take responsibility for the area, while Israel would continue to meet civilian needs and residents, who are Alawi Arabs, would retain their Israeli identity cards.

The international border between Israel and Lebanon runs through the middle of the village, and according to UN Resolution 1701, which ended the Second Lebanon War, required Israel to cease all operations north of the border, with an emphasis on military operations.

LF & Syria in the same trench ?!?!?!?!

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

According to Mr.Adwan, the LF has no political problem with Hezbollah but is only worried about its weapons and more importantly, we are in the same strench as Syria against Israel ?? and with all Arabs to defend the Palestinian Cause ??

What did our martyrs die for then ? What were you doing in Tal el Zaatar back then Mr.Adwan ? defending the Palestinian Cause ?

And to top it all:
