A missing Lebanese Army walkie talkie supposedly taken by the Lebanese Forces is found intentionally left behind at the scene of Dany Chamoun’s assassination. No other clues or fingerprints were found. One immediately realizes that…..

a. Samir Geagea is guilty
b. The Lebanese Forces did it to implicate Samir Geagea who was trying to implicate Syria
c. Israel did it so that Geagea could take the fall thus absolving Israel
d. there are evil anti Lebanon forces in the shadows and we shouldn’t be so eager to jump to conclusions

Pierre Gemayel is targeted in broad daylight by a team of assassins who recognize his car even though it is unmarked. Your natural understanding of politics and reading of the situation leads your to the following conclusions…

a. Samir Geagea killed him because he was afraid of his potential to unify the christian street and become president
b. Amin Gemayel wanted to be president again and thats it case closed.
c. Israel did it because the last 30 or so bombings and assassinations didn’t implicate Syria enough.

Rafic Hariri opposed the extension of Emile Lahhouds term and has put together enough international support to get Syria out of Lebanon. A massive car bomb kills him in downtown Beirut. A United nations special investigation implicates Syrian agents in Lebanon by putting them in detention. High ranking Syrian politicians are likely to be indicted. In your understanding, the real killer of Hariri is….

a. Israel , and no further motive is necessary.

After broadcasting some news on the Salim Slem incident today, LBC played that song by Ghassan Rehbani. It kind of refreshed my memory on the old airport highway and how horrible it was, it used to pass in the middle of Dahieh and the sites were similar to Kabul :-).

However all that changed with Hariri and i must admit it was a very smart and intelligent investment to clean that road and change its direction and build a whole new one.

But i do critisize him for one thing:

- He should have put electric fences all over the highway to keep away anyone trying to block it, since it seems it has become a habit by HA & Amal thugs to go down and block the road.

Everytime two families fight in Dahieh, the airport highway is closed !!

This is inadmissible, the airport should always be reachable at any time and the army should be deployed at all time to stop anyone trying to close it.

Back in January, cars were burned on that highway without anyone intervening.
Today a group of 50 HA & Amal thugs tried to close the road and succeeded in doing so until the army stopped them.

And this wont be the last time surely.

It is time the government and M14 take things in hand and stop M8 from any movement that might disturb the country’s stability.
The tents must be removed by force, all attempts to close the airport highway must be stopped by force, no matter what it takes.

You should treat thugs like thugs, they want to burn tyres, you beat the crap out of them ..

I was reading one of the comments on a previous post and saw a respectful reader of our blog ask about naturalization and how we are not discussing it ..

Yesterday a small dispute occured btw Hariri & Aoun over the Palestinians. Here is a small resume from Naharnet.

You ask me why i did not mention it ?? I honestly dont think Naturalization is anymore a problem nowadays ..
Dont get me wrong, i am still against it and i know some parties in Lebanon want it to happen, mainly Hariri senior, yet i see it as a detail compared to the problems, or should i say dramatic situation we reached today.

I will ask you few questions and once you answer them, you will realize how lame is the naturalization issue ..

Why did the Christians enlarge Lebanon and include Muslims and force them to live here ??
Why do we blame Muslims for wanting to islamize the country even though they clearly told us they wanted to do so 60 years ago ??
Why are Iraqi Christians fleeing to Lebanon in numbers ?
Why do we want to live with People who dont even acknowledge Lebanon ?
Why would the Christians of Lebanon oppose nowadays division ??
Was refusing Kissinger’s plan a mistake ?

Why should we fight for Lebanon while others just want to weaken us and take over ?
Why do we still believe in Lebanon ??

I do believe in Lebanon but honestly and sincerely i cant convince anyone to stay here or believe in it anymore.

The Martyrs who died for us to stay are what keep me going ..and a blind belief in a dream a certain Bashir Gemayel believed in one day, a dream that is looking more like an illusion fading away one day after the other ..

So as you see my friend, naturalization is a very minor detail.

The Maronite Church should have taken an immediate decision to expel Frangieh from the Maronite Church once and for all.

Calling for prayers is of course the way to answer him, but measures should be taken.

Bkerke must respond by actions to this man and anyone insulting the head of the Church.

Today Frangieh said he wont apologize and is confident about what he said. And he added that he ll demonstrate if others demonstrated. He should be stopped and by the Church first and foremost.

We dont agree as Christian political parties, its ok.
We fight during elections and are divided as Christians, its also ok ( to a certain extent).

But Insulting the head of our Church and calling him names ??

I believe the patriarch has played the most crucial role for us Christians in the years of Syrian hegemony, he kept us alive, he kept fighting for our Cause silently but firmly. He never missed an opinion to ask for our rights and Lebanon’s rights, he fought against tons of pressures and remained above all.

We failed him since 2005, our leaders misled him, lied to him, dissapointed him .. His only mistakes that that he trusted some of them …

If i were him, i would have kicked out of the Church Sleiman Frangieh once and for all ..
He doesnt deserve to be a maronite, he only deserves to be behind bars or in some shit hole ..

I once wrote that Michel Aoun was an enigma.

I take that back.

Michel Aoun is no more an enigma than Hassan Nassrallah is cleanshaven.

What has changed you may ask?

Is it that he has now taken a somewhat consistent stand? Albeit smack in the middle of the Syrian camp. Or is it that he hails himself as the logical and secular protector of the Christians? Meanwhile advocating a presidential election by the people; 60% of which are Muslim.
But wait! could it be that he is no longer an enigma because he so consistently condemns the Christian prelate? Meanwhile seeking even the slightest nod of approval from the Divinely Bearded Protector of Lebanon and it ain’t Mar Charbel in case you were guessing.
I know.I know. I think it might be his unwavering fight against corruption while standing steadfastly by his allies ? Omar Karami, Sleiman Franjieh, Wi’am Wahhab, Nabih Berri, Asaad Herdan, and the rest of HasSanta’s uncorrupted little elves.

No Sir, Michel Aoun is no more an enigma than Asef Shawkat is a buddhist monk. He is no more an enigma than Ghazi Kenaan was suicidal and he is certainly no more of an enigma than Mohammad Fneish is cute.

I’ll tell you what Michel Aoun is.

Michel Aoun is an enema not an enigma.

And now I’ll tell you why.

Simply put: More crap has come to Lebanon from Mchel Aoun’s behavior than from 10,000 head of fiber-eating cattle on heavy laxatives.

Its not really funny but rather laughable since what he has done is so sad that crying is no longer a valid reaction.

Let me play the Devils advocate for a second and defend Hassan Nassrallah . Pun intended.

Let me also assume that just a few of the more achievable conspiracy theories expounded by LFPM were to be remotely true. Don’t worry , I’ll spare you a couple that are on the lowest spectrum of what already is the the pinnacle of bad taste. Thus I’ll delve not into Samir Geagea’s fertility nor the Killing of Dany Chamoun and out of just the slightest respect, I’ll try not to examine Amin Gemayels motives for killing his own son.

Lets begin then.

Firstly we have to assume that there is a supremely malevolent plan on behalf of Saad Hariri to make Lebanon not only into Palestine but also into a Saudi Wahhabi mutation of Palestine. Lets call it Saadestine or Hariristan as some not completely brain dead Aounies have put it.

Somehow, for Saadestine to happen, Rafic Hariri had to be assassinated by none other than the : Israelis/Americans/Lebanese Forces/Suadi Arabia/Jacques Chirac/Sunni Fundamentalist/Saad Hariri (please circle one) in order to advance the Saudi interest in Lebanon. Granted this is a Lebanon that is going to be wholly and entirely owned by Hariri except, of course, for the lands and assets that such a greedy man is going to give away to the Palestinians. Then in order to raise the share value of his personalized Lebanon (not to mention Solidere), Saad is going to give monetary support to every Wahhabi freak, Sunni fundamentalist, El Qaeda goon, Fat’h el Islam ninkampoop, Jund el Sham Soldier, Zarqawi wannabe and Jihadi inspired sleeper cell, to promote tourism in all the hotels serving booze in his coveted Downtown.

Lets us also assume that all his allies in March 14 are on that infamous inherited Hariri payroll and that Sethrida slept with Saad le Din (never forget that he is Saudi) to get Geagea out. Poor Samir in prison for 11 years thinking he was a political prisoner. If he had only known that pimping his wife would have gotten him out. Who knows how quickly he could have been in Paris? Anyway what good is a Lebanese conspiracy without some sordid sex tale? RIP and move over Elie Hobeika, we have the Hot Stud Saad now.

Let us also assume that the entire world is being fed wrong information about Aoun and Hizballah.
France, Germany, USA, Thailand, Egypt, Italy, Spain, and Sweden among tens of others are such dupes that Saad and Jumblatt (Since Geagea doesn’t really count) were able to convince them that Aoun is the March 8 President S-Elect (where S stands for Syria and not a more luxurious Mercedes model ,though that may end up part of the deal too) and that Hassan Nassrallah was an Iranian Revolutionary Guard Cadet as opposed to what he really is :a really truly pro democratic Lebanese Leader.

If at this point you have not had an aneurysm or a subdural hematoma from forcing your mind to concoct such a scenario, we can proceed to what Aoun expects us to do based on this information.

Its very simple.

Surrender.

Aoun actually believes, somewhere in the tiniest little shadow of a corner in his mind where 2+2 actually makes 4 instead of the usual 2+2= @#%$ !!, that he will find a way to get back to Baabda. To this effect he has not only made a pact with the Devil, but he agreed to carry the pitchfork for as long as it takes. As long as it takes to fully subdue and demoralize the last fighting remnant of free thinking Lebanese that is.

Let me detail these for a moment.

By using fear mongering and paranoia against the Lebanese Forces and the Sunnis, Aoun has succeeded in driving a wedge between Christians that were for all intents and purposes united until 2005. What has changed since then? Only Aoun who has mutated over to the Syrian side.

By using frequent attacks on the Christian Church in the person of Patriarch Sfeir, Aoun has caused enough animosity between Christians who defend the sanctity of the Church and those who are indifferent (Aouns supporters) that it serves to generate an antagonism against Aoun that validates his position. To this effect Aoun has created justification in saying that he is hated for being the popular choice of the Christians.

By creating a supposed “Majority of the Christians” cover for the nefarious dealings of Syria’s unashamed allies in Lebanon (Hizb, SSNP, Baath, Marada,etc), Aoun has managed to paralyze any international action or pressure that would otherwise have isolated Hizballah and shortened the crisis.

By refusing to join forces with the remainder of the Christian leaders due to his unabashed and shameless pursuit of the presidency, Aoun has cost the pro democratic Lebanese any chance of having a real Leader who can guide their country out of Syrian tutelage.

By throwing suspicion on March 14 every time an assassination happens and by honking the usual “Someone Wants to Frame Syria” forensic theory and by claiming that there are shadowy forces at work, Aoun managed to muddy the waters enough so that his complicit allies can hide in the murky waters.

By creating a false sense that he has accepted Sleiman’s candidacy and only wants to agree on government structure, Aoun has managed to give Syria more breathing room without a Lebanese President.

In the end what is so sad to see is that Aoun has now adopted the same proven tactics as Syria and Hizballah. It is very simple and obvious.

Create as much confusion and distress as possible.

Stop anyone from fixing anything.

Accuse everyone of everything.

Blame America and Israel for every other issue.

Make the people so miserable and destitute that they will accept anything that is perceived as a solution.

And the Last but not least…..

Pray pray pray that you stay in power.

A new Martyr joins the endless list of LF martyrs, Joseph Khoury who was killed in yesterday’s bombing.

He just got married four months ago and moved to Beirut a month ago to start some new work, he was killed on his way back along with his worker apparently who was from Tripoli, also married and has a young baby.

Joseph was 34.

May both of them rest in peace.

I was not surprised the Opposition was silent after the bombing .. who will they blame this time ??

Israel bombing a US embassy convoy ?? or maybe self-hating Americans bombing their own men ??

Who is covering those groups capable of bombing our politicians and journalists ? who protects groups that hate Americans and are willing to do anything to harm them ?

Who graduates terrorists on a daily basis and sends them to Iraq ?? Who else but Criminal Syria ??

One would accuse Hezbollah of such an attempt, but i dont think they are interested in such things, they would not harm their image over a small attempt, not that their image is a good one .. but they take great pride in being criminals of large scale .. they cause death by the hundreds

You ask me who is to blame ? Al-Qaeda is a prime suspect here .. a group that doesnt have a clear structure, that is highly professional ( even though that bombing wasnt very professional in my opinion).

How to deal with this group ??
It is infiltrated in the Sunnite community, among the groups that unfortunatelly Sunnite leaders ( Hariri mainly) are failing to control, and is suppored by the the Syrians who are providing military and political coverage to them.

I fear we will see more of them if they are not contained properly. This might be the start to a long terrorism campaign ..

At last we can only say that more innocent civilians were killed, more properties destroyed and more injured people ..

Press Release by the US embassy On the bombing

I am not sure if that was the intention, but the Arab initiative was a total confusion for both teams and ironically it serves first and foremost the Christians ..

First of all a quick reminder of what the plan calls for :
The Arab League’s three-point plan calls for the election of army chief Michel Sleiman as president, the formation of a national unity government in which no one party has veto power, and the adoption of a new electoral law.

Why is that serving the Christians most?

It is asking for the election of a new president ( Michel Suleiman) without any conditions ..
Of course i am still against him as a candidate, but what came next is very interesting and might server us on the long term and even now if the Christians of both teams realize its importance ..

The same plan asks that the president be given the 1/3 of the cabinet and that is a huge advantage for us Christians if we manage to keep it that way ..

This point here confused Aoun, who realized that achieved one of his demands.
It confused Hezbollah, who in my opinion will keep on refusing it since he wants full control.
It confused M14 team, because they already had a bad experience with a General in power before and dont want to repeat the same mistake.

I say All Christians should accept this initiative now, and try to get the best out of it ..
After all, our leaders are the ones who got us here, and unfortunatelly, its the least worse exit ..

It looks like this whole Fairouz issue is getting more and more serious ..
Walid Jumblatt accused indirectly Fairouz of donating money to the Syrian intelligence ??

I was reading some old article i was sent and i was quite surprised how no one made a big deal out of that serious accusation ..
Maybe they all understood at last that Aoun is just a clown throwing lame accusations everytime he is cornered ..

سئل: هل ترى التصعيد الاميركي الاخير تمهيدا لتسوية شاملة مع سوريا، ام انه مدخل لتصعيد محتم على الارض في لبنان؟
اجاب: اعتقد ان لا قدرة لديهم على التصعيد، أكثر من عملية اغتيال لا يمكن أن يحدث وهذا ما يجب ان نتحاشاه، ولكن لا أحد يملك القدرة على التصعيد في لبنان من القوى التي تهدد به، والتهديد لا يأتي فقط من الرئيس بوش بل من الرئيس ساركوزي والامم المتحدة. ولكن لا أرى ان بامكانهم ضرب الاستقرار أكثر مما ضربوه في السياسة وبعض الحوادث الامنية.

English translation:
Aoun was asked : Do you see the last American speech as a start to an overall compromise with Syria ? or is it meant to intensify further the tensions in Lebanon ??

And he answered: I think they dont have any capability on intensifying the situation, An assassination is the maximum that can happen and this is how we should keep it. No one has the power to intensify the situation in Lebanon among those countries, and the threat is not only from Pr.Bush but also from Pr.Sarkozy and the United Nations. But I dont think they can shake the stability in Lebanon more than they did in politics and some incidents.

My Lebanon is just like yours.

It lives in my mind, my heart and my spirit. It lives in my humor and sadness. It thrives in my family, my friends, my countrymen, my memory. Lebanon is in the air that I breathe every day. It is the moon climbing slowly from behind the hills to crawl into the sky, shimmering softly on the calm Mediterranean. It is the sun burning red and orange as sinks gracefully on the horizon. It is a row of pine trees along a mountain road and a little stone house set back in a quiet little village.

My Lebanon is just like yours in the long hot summer days beating us down to sleep in the shade of the afternoon. It is in the feasts, lunches and dinners stretched out along long tables with friends and drink. It is the heart thumping rhythm of the derbakkeh and the whirling dance of the dabke. It is the smoke that curls from the nargileh as you sip your coffee brewed fresh from a large boiling pot.

Lebanon is the sheikh in his mansion and the priest in his church. It is the Muezzin calling Muslims to prayer at dawn the voice ringing through the crisp air. It is the church bell tolling loud and clear from the hilltop. Lebanon is the farmer leading his oxen to plow. It is the goatherd whistling and calling to his flock and the stone flung with the aim of a hunter walking beyond him in the valley. Lebanon is the shahrour and the bulbul singing, the fig tree lending its fruit and the grapes sweetening your mouth like cold wet honey.

My Lebanon is just like yours and the neighbors who welcome you into their hearts and their homes. It is in the old woman sitting cross-legged before her sajj baking the mouthwatering manoush and markouk. It is the men sitting before the saraya under a eucalyptus tree playing tric trac each wiser than the next and both content in their rivalry. It is in Beirut on a busy day with the people walking and the cars honking. It is in the crowded restaurants and cafes and the beaches. It is the fun of being alive.

My Lebanon is just like yours when the snow falls on Sannine, Faraya and Bcharre. It is the white laden branches of the cedars in winter that have stood before time itself knew of them. It is the olive tree that was planted by the grandfather of my grandfather and the sindianeh under which he sat and told me. Lebanon is Fairuz and the songs of the loves and dreams of all of us. It is the stars on a clear autumn night flickering like the lights of the fishing boats in the bay.

My Lebanon is all of that and more .It is beyond any enemy and their devices. It is above any politician and his manipulations. It is bigger than any scheme or any plot. My Lebanon is invincible, it is unconquerable and unwavering. My Lebanon is beyond the traitors and the thieves; it is beyond the cowards and the knaves. My Lebanon cannot be bombed nor beat, nor bowed .My Lebanon is made of things that cannot be broken, of dreams that cannot be erased, of passion that cannot be withheld. My Lebanon is as free as the hawk that flies on a hot summer day and as tough as the pillars of Baalbek. My Lebanon is powerful and proud, tolerant and forgiving, beautiful and stern. My Lebanon is made of the immortal.
