this is too ambiguous, you need to define what his goals are to be able to point out his mistakes, so what were his goals? becoming president? becoming the only representative of the christians? (like bachir was) salvaging the country from civil war? etc
define his goals and the purpose of his political career and then we might be able to answer the question
2. Rima | August 6th, 2008 at 1:02 am
He decided to liberate the Sharkieh from what he called militia and transformed the army into a christian militia. By doing that, he weakened the Christians politically and caused massive immigration from Lebanon.
He decided to free Lebanon from Syria and siding by Saddam when USA was fighting Iraq…Syria took advantage of that and signed a deal with the Arabs and Americans against Lebanon…basically he offered Lebanon as a gift to Syria which allowed the latter to disarm all militias except HA…
He decided to side by HA and Syria to reach Baabda and weakened the cedar revolution which allowed HA to swallow Lebanon…and yet the good is yet to come

I am not Lebanese and I am not very familiar with Aouns career, but I think it is a huge mistake to support Hezbollah, especially as a Christian. I do not understand how it is possible.
4. cedrik | August 6th, 2008 at 1:29 am
I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt and consider that he intended to become a national hero and salvage the country from civil war and give the christians the representation they truly deserve.
in this case his mistakes are way too many to enumerate, but just to name a few: he attacked the lebanese forces under the slogan “taw7id el boundoukiya”. he declared the liberation war against a better equipped and better trained army. The war caused many civilians casualties, made the last truly sovereign region fall to the mercy of the Syrian troops and last but not least forced the captain to flee his ship.
Fast forward to our present days: he fooled the lebanese people into believing that his primary focus once he becomes an mp would be to make some serious “changes and reforms” to the lebanese government. But as soon as he won the elections he allied with hezbollah and declared that the arms of the resistance complement the lebanese army, thus he undermined the authority of the state. ( i wonder what happened to taw7id al boundoukiya).
These my friend are the main mistakes that aoun did during his career.
one last thought, is it just me or did i just sum up aoun’s whole political career? what do you know it turned out that his whole career was a mistake. oh well. that’s life

N10452
Since this is a very serious question ya N10452. I am going to be serious as well (allow me and plz do not remove my post)..
This morning, I underwent a rather annoying situation and it reminded me about this famous Arabic parable which attests to the fact that people will always speak ill of others and here you are asking a serious question on this blog(chu hal sodfeh) ..
Here it goes, I hope you all enjoy:
A father and his son decided one day to take a trip to another town. To get to their destination, they had to pass through several other villages. Their only means of transportation was a donkey. Gazing upon his young son with compassion, the father insisted that the son rides the donkey while the father walks beside them. As they passed through the first village, the inhabitants of that village said, “What a selfish son! He rides the donkey and makes his father walk. What’s wrong with him?
The boy and his father heard the remarks, so before entering the second village, they switched positions and the father rode the donkey while the son walked beside. As they passed the townspeople, they heard one man say, “Look at that man. He sits comfortably on the donkey and makes his young son walk! Does he have no compassion? What’s wrong with him?”
Nevertheless, the boy and his father continued. Before they approached the third village, they remembered what the others had said about them, so they both decided to walk beside the donkey and walk the animal by its leash. As they entered this town, they heard someone say, “Look at those two fools. They have a perfectly good donkey to ride and neither of them is riding it. Don’t they have any sense? What’s wrong with them?”
Hearing these comments, the boy and his father were becoming increasingly annoyed. As they approached their destination, to avoid any further comments, they both decided to ride the donkey. Suddenly, they heard a person say, “Look how cruel that man and his son are. They are both riding that donkey. It can’t support their weight! What’s wrong with them?
The point is that we cannot please everyone. People will always speak ill of others(ouwet). I think it’s just best to avoid such negative people and to keep doing what we think is right, no matter what they say..
What do you want me to tell you ya N? Aoun is not perfect , he messed up many times (LIKE ALL OTHER POLITICIANS) and his biggest mistake was : Ignoring the fact that he still have prisoners in syria ( I know one of them). I was very sad to hear such a great leader saying that. But, let’s not forget that he’s a human and willing to make mistakes under certain conditions.
PS: 7ata law aoun 3mil khadem 3indon ra7 bitdalkon tikrahou, into ma bit7ibi 2ila li minkon w fikon.

15. Patrick | August 6th, 2008 at 7:54 am
If we talk about the 80s, some of us can write a whole chapter.
But if we talk about the last few years faqat, we can write a book.
1) He was elected on a Cedar Revolution platform including the disarmament of all militias and hezbollah in particular. this was one of aoun’s biggest stated goals at that time, which of course helped FPM get elected. but it’s also the biggest goal which he ABANDONED after the elections. in other words, he now supports the ‘right’ of militias to have weapons outside of state control, namely hezbollah, and he lied to the christians and our allies in the cedar revolution in the process.
2) he claims to fight for greater representation of christians, for the right of christians to return, to encourage christians to return, etc., but as long as he is giving cover to hezbollah, he is giving a cover for the greatest reason christians emigrate. what do i mean? everytime hezbollah pulls a move like the 2006 war, the year of tent city, the events of january 23 and 25 last year, or the may 7 takeover of west beirut, christians leave the country in droves. and nasrallah knows this. do you think nasrallah has any fantasy of defeating israel? do you think he needs to prove to almustaqbal that hezbollah is the strongest faction? no. slowly but surely, nasrallah is seeking a smaller and smaller christian constituency. he throws FPM a bone or two in the short-term so christians will support FPM and therefore hezbollah, but in the long-term he is looking at a) increased christian emigration because of war other violence, general degredation such as tent city, and the economic effects of all of the above; b) increased emigration of christians because of hezbollah/iranians buying christian lands above market value, giving economic incentive for emigration, and establishing shia dominance in once-christian areas (esp. just north of the litani); c) hezbollah are now talking about a shia position of vice president; d) it won’t be long before hezbollah demands proportional representation (i.e., increase to 40% for shia representatives, and decrease to 40% for christian representatives) in both the cabinet and the parliament; etc. aoun is giving a cover for the greatest reason of christian emigration and long-term consolidation of shia power and loss of christian power ever, all the while believing he is strengthening the christian position. in other words, he is short-sighted. except in this case, we are not talking about a politician who is short-sighted about the energy sector or growing trends in the tourism sector, for example, but about the future of the christians in lebanon, and the future of lebanon as a whole.
3) need i go on? i mean, come on. this can’t be a serious question.
16. Michele | August 6th, 2008 at 7:56 am
N, shouldn’t u ask the question the other way around??
Name just one achievement Aoun did???
Just ONE!!!
Then this page will be for z 1st time empty!
17. Patrick | August 6th, 2008 at 8:02 am
what i mean is, at a time when aoun could ‘really’ be securing christians’ long-term role in lebanon (just think if he we were doing as good a job in march 14 as he is doing in march 8), he is giving a cover for lebanon’s islamization.
and that is to say very little of the terrible effects on ALL lebanese of giving cover to weapons outside of state control, and to hezbollah in general… 20 billion dollars damage to housing, infrastructure, etc. in 2006 war, 16 billion dollars lossed in international investments, economy plummeted, 1500 lebanese dead, people still dying monthly from cluster bombs in the south, 60+ dead in may 7 (8, 9, etc.) takeover, how many lost investments and how much decline in the economy and how many thousands of dollars did family and small businesses in beirut lose because of the year of tent city, or because of the 23 jan and 25 jan 2007 violence, or because of the may 7 takeover.
and how about all the assassinations?
man fuck hezbollah. fuck SSNP.
allah ouwet hakim w bass.
18. Cyprus | August 6th, 2008 at 8:45 am
I will not point on his mistakes as we have got a lot of point from this blog, but i will point on something more important as following:
GMA has shown to all lebanese and the world that christians in lebanon are the most stupid and they can follow a stupid political man like GMA even if he brings the syrians back to lebanon.
19. paul | August 6th, 2008 at 9:12 am
one from aoun´s many mistakes is , he sees as wrong, everything the LF sees as correct.
20. Rasheed | August 6th, 2008 at 9:24 am
According to a friend who is a Aoun supporter, the biggest mistake was the MoU (wathiqat al-tafahom) with Hizb.

23. nevermind | August 6th, 2008 at 10:04 am
one more thing…. can you please define “whole career”?? you mean since when??
Since he became a general in the army, even before that, he used to hate LF…during sheikh bashir’s time. He always hated them because the army was not popular… Even amin gmayel hated the LF,and we all know what happened in the “jabal” war, when our heroes, families were left behind, betrayed by our army.
Huge list N, huge….

26. Rodge | August 6th, 2008 at 10:18 am
Aoun didn’t do any mistake at all.
He came to execute a Syrian plan in Lebanon and he managed to do it so well.
The first stage of the plan was to divide Christians, he has done perfectly.
the second stage to weakening the 14th of March, he also done a good job.
the third was to give the Hizb a certain Christian cover and he did it.
it Included also to lie on people and to ally with every corrupt politician and Syrian - Iranian puppet, he was the best in that.
Finally the plan targeted to turn him in to the most famous traitor and clown on the Political scene, and no one can compete him in that.
So the answer, he never made any mistake, he became a Millionaire (and maybe a Billionaire) he and his Zoubran with Iranian and some of the Lebanese people money.
So I think I’ve answered the question and I won.
and now N10452, I will claim my 1 Million $ prize.

inco
who killed ur hopes are ur hakim and his masters hariri and jombi. surprised? let me explain to u more .
first of all, aounists are the true starters of march 14.
after syria withdrew from lebanon, all lebs were supposed to unite and save the country. the first thing ur 14 march gang leaders did was work on not letting aoun come back from france. when he came back and during the elections they offered him a few mp seats and that’s it. someone like aoun could not accept such an offer because he has dignity, while someone like ur hakim accepted it straight away . and when aoun came back to leb the first thing he did was visit ur hakim to open a new page and unite. but ur hakim refused. that was his first mistake after syria withdrew. his second mistake was refusing to yetsala7 with franjiyyi although the latter expressed acceptance to shake hands . this showed how strong and respectful franjiyyi is and how low ur hakim is .
after the elections and due to the fact that GMA won the christian votes he was supposed to enter the government because christians were not due to remain outside it. ur march 14 gangs refused and they gave the gov seats to lahoud rather than aoun.
all this shows that hariri and jombi do not want a strong christian leader in power.
and while u always say hezballa is bad and all that, ur hakim accepted the fact that his masters ally with hezballa in 2005 elections in order to gain a few more votes.
now when aoun allied with hezballa u all started b*rk*ng .
want me to say more reasons why it’s ur 14march gang fault for the failure of ur haraki?
28. Rodge | August 6th, 2008 at 11:35 am
Stallion,
In every story, there are 2 versions, and each of us is free to believe one of them, or refuse both.
But ur problem is that you always believe ur side of the story.
I’m gonna tell you the other sides of the storeis you told, and i’m not saying that I believe them, it’s not the issue here, i’m free in my opinion, and maybe I believe some maybe i don’t.
Anyway, about you Aounists being the first who started the March 14, I don’t think anyone was tyhe first, everybody started at the same time, and the movement was launched after the Hariri death, while there were many meetings when Hariri was still alive, and you were not participating. and don’t tell me now that you were the first to fight the Syrian occupation, because you were not, in fact your movement was not born yet.
Second, the LF and 14 of March tried not to let Aoun comes back, the other side of the story is that he had already made deals with Lahoud and the Syrians to come back and divide the movement.
March 14 leaders went to see him in Paris, Boutros Harb, Jombi among others, do you still remember??
Aoun went to visit Geagea in Prison, but who said that he offered him to reunite and Geagea refused?? ur people of course. the other version is that Aoun offered Geagea to work under him while he will be the leader of all Christians, so Geagea refused of course, he’s a leader who stayed in Prison for 11 years, why he should work under a man who went for tourism in France??
the story of Frangieh. If you have respect for people, you should understand why he refused mousala7a with him. if someone kills ur cousin or neighbor or friend (la sama7 Allah) and came to you for tolerance, do you accept or you respect the death of the one yu know? thant’s what happened, Frangieh’s man killed an LF supporter and Frangieh was refusing to surrender him, so Hakim refused to reply before the killer is surrendered, and this did not happen.
as for the MPs and Ministers, it was a negociation process, and everyone tried to gain as much as he wants, but if you failed to make a deal with someone, this doesn’t mean you should go and ally with his ennemy. also Aoun already had his allies in the elections before that negociation.
and he said he agrees on 95% of Hariris project, he never showed that.
Everybody knows Aoun is a trouble maker, and he always proved that. He wants to be the leader the president the hero the everything. he’s not alone in the world, let him go to an island so he could rule without anyone annoying him.

Knowing ur IQ level ya Lebnene (and here i would say; di3an hal esem fik), u must be reffering to my name Michele.
Again u r proving to all of us z level of ur stupidity, not only u worship a person but for u z name of that person becomes sacred!
I don’t know if i should feel sad that Aoun has idiots like u following him or actually happy… But unfortunately i came to learn that an Idiot hurts more than an intelligent…
But in this case u r only hurting ur country this is if Lebanon is really ur country!
32. Rodge | August 6th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
LEBNENE,
Go get a life, or maybe a country.
All the Aounis can do is spreading rumors about people paying money to others, or people getting money to do things, or others taking orders etc…
It is another complex we should add to the game we played in a previous post.
Now LEBNENE you can stop spreading these stories and take a rest, don’t worry, you will get ur 10 $ for today, I heard Hizb and Aoun are well satisfied with ur work.

Why are you asking lebnene if Lebanon was his real country??? Buddy, lebanon is for every one of us and you dont have any right on the planet earth to make such statement based on your racist views. Get the facts straight before questioning the guy’s beleif. How would you like me calling you a traitor ? You sure dont bcoz it wasnt your fault , it was your ancestors fault and now you’re paying the heavy price for it . Of course , as in many things in life, you get what you pay for. And here you are now living in the darkness of your own views of having an INDEPENDENT divided lebanon where jouniyeh is the capital city of your own county or KADA2 in arabic (will never happen)….!!
Truth to be told, that is, lebanon as a state , has become a sponsor of VIOLENCE right after your guys took over the office in 05. Is this lebanon ALAZI TURID?
C’mon michele get real. We’re all lebanese and we’ll always be patriotic lebanese now and forever. We’re here to stay and if you dont like it, CRY LEBNENE A RIVER.

Is it a mistake to have been treated at DEIR EL SALEEB by two top psychiatrists (Dr Assaad El RAMY and Dr MANOUKIAN) who once forced him to wear the”JACKET” because the crisis was so destructive?
I think the mistake was to let him OUT without finalysing the healing.

Yes Aoun made manny mistakes:
1-He didn’t end those terrorists called Lf back in 1988 and executed their criminal leader Geagea before he kills Dany Chamoun
2-He allied with Michel Murr in the 2005 election
3-He went to the election with so manny assholes in 2005 like in Akkar,Koura,Tripoli…..
4-He keeps replying to this bold megalomaniac charlatant Samir Geagea whenever this moron opens his mouth with empty threats and promises
5-He appears constantly on tv,with stupid speaches that Future Tv take advantage of and edit them and show only 10 % of them when Aoun says something stupid like when he said “Min l Zinnar w Nezel”
40. kezballah | August 6th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
Doc facharit to say our ancestors are traitors, we are descendant of heros like Bachir and Saints like Charbel and Bouna Yaacub, fachrit with all you arguileh smokers tjib siret our ancestors wleh.
You keep saying we are now paying heavy price what do you know about paying prices you never pay for nothing in your life, we pay martyrs against Palestinians and Syrians and all the occupiers your friends, we pay heavy price since Aoun run away like a coward in 1990 we already paid for 18 years it is not new, we pay because we want freedom not Iranian dictatorship. And on top of it we pay for your electricity bunch of deadbeats.
41. kezballah | August 6th, 2008 at 7:48 pm
N, you ask a tough question but I think the answer is simple:
Aoun biggest mistake is he didn’t commit suicide in October 13 1990.
I think he knew on that day he will not be president ever, he had the chance to be more respectable than president, to be martyr the most respectable thing. But he didn’t have the courage to do it, he run away for 15 years sitting in a luxe villa in paris, his soldiers in jail in Syria or dead or humiliated.

ur facts make me laugh .
i am not sure why ir memory starts at 14 march 2005 . but if u stretch it a bit more u will find that 14 march 1989 was the start of the liberation movement against syria . it was the aounists who started it and back then ur hakim was allying with the syrians to eliminate aoun. if u tell me that bashir started the war before aoun i will say yes . but bashir died in 82 and since then it stopped because who came after bashir was not able to make a war because he is a batal min wara2 .
ur story about aoun’s return and the deals with syria etc is all march gang propaganda because those aspects are ur hakim’s . he makes deals 3a dahr el sha3eb and not aoun. if ur story was true then maybe u shoudl explain to me why aoun got the majority if christian votes .
as for franjiyyi, no matter what u say, the refuse of mosala7a with him showd how low ur hakim is and how weak he is. if he was a man then he would agree to yetsala7 no matter what happened. shoo nseet enou ur criminal leader killed all his family?
as for ur last part, agreeing to the 95% with hariri was way after the elections. and when aoun announced that, ur hakim’s master hariri denied all talks and withdrew because he was not ready to be a man yet.
go get ur information right ya rodge. maybe those kids here consider u as a philosopher or a smart guy but when u go to the outside world u will need a lot of effort to be able to debate.

Are you all so smart in the FPM and Hezbollah? Wonderful people, you celebrate assassination, you accuse historic leaders that they are traitors, you follow cowards who run to France or hide under the ground, you are very smart group Ydoum Rabkon 3a hal zaka!

I did not call bashir a traitor ( I will never come to your house to put you down ) , bass ta7et battak fi mssaleh 3m tira3k.
Since you’re turning this debate into a sectarian one , then , allow me, to remind you that shiaa in general also paid the heavy price when they stood agaisnt you, syria, israel and your freindly (ikhwena al fallastiniye per SG) PLOS. I know alot of fathers and mothers who lost double and triple children fighting agaisnt ARAFT and gangs in west beirut. They saved beirut from becoming ”tari2 fallastine” , they also saved lebanon form becoming another Israeli state. Lets not forget the cold war between HA and hafez al assad mid 80’s. We all sacrificed wle and we all paid heavy blood, but again , this is lebanon.

kezballa it seems that the only way to work around a debate is to make a sectarian one. khaleek 3a2il and know ur limits when talking about ekhwanna el shi3a and muslims in general.
we all paid a price during the war . so u can’t claim that gemayel family and ewet only paid price and the rest are traitors . if u wanna talk about traitors then u better watch out because yalla baytou min 2jez ma byersho2 el nes be7jar.
but what makes me laugh is the fact that ur ewet and kataeb want to get paid for the blood of their shohada in the elections. means that u want ppl to vote for ur leaders just because of their shohada.

Ya Ali ya sa7bé, when u said:
“Buddy, lebanon is for every one of us and you dont have any right on the planet earth to make such statement based on your racist views”, where the hell did u detect any racism in my reply to Lebnene, how the hell would i know where Lebnene comes from?
I was asking him where he was coming from as i was doubting his patriotism to Lebanon; nobody can be from Lebanon n wish harm to Lebanon.
Trust me what makes Lebanon so beautiful n rich is having that multi-cultural n confession society.
For ur knowledge, my 2 aunts r married wz a Sunni n wz a Shia’a, n i really luv my cousins.
Hezbollah for me does not represent Shia’a as for me Shia’s is a very pacifist sect.
But i do understand why some of the shia’a r sympathizing wz z Hezb bcoz for so many years they felt oppressed n forgotten.
But it breaks my heart when i see an educated person, wz a lovely family, living in z states supportting a terrorist organization.
Again, I don’t follow any party, or leader but of course I’m in favor wz the mouvement that asks for Lebanon independancy n prosperity.
75. Michele | August 7th, 2008 at 7:28 am

Just to give u an idea how wrong Hezbollah is doing to our image n reputation, i have a very good friend who is heading a huge division at z World Bank, she couldn’t get a visa to Argentina bcoz she is holding a Lebanese passport.

Why does the Hezbollah refuse to military train kids of more than 9 years ??? Is it because - at this age - they can be easily “brainwashed” and become “flesh for the wars”???
Why does Lebanon has to bear the “civilization of BEARDS” which takes us BACKWARDS 1000 years ????
If the Hezbollah wants to plunge Lebanon in a war with NO END against Israel (for the interests of Iran & Syria &, & …), why do we have to be the victims?
We also are human beings;
We also have children;
We also want for our children to (finally) live a decent life (without the image of WARS);
We also want to be able to laugh, play and be happy….
We ARE FED UP with WARS ….and disgusting politicians who are puppets and agents to foreign countries (be it France or Israel or Iran or ZIMBABWE…);
We want to live a NORMAL life…
Do you have an answer to THIS ?????
Or do you also approve to die for a “Divine Mission” ?????
85. Rodge | August 7th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
Leb4life, or shall i say Hable4life,
since it suits you better.
Thx for your respect when you said and I quote: “maybe those kids here consider u as a philosopher or a smart guy but when u go to the outside world u will need a lot of effort to be able to debate”.
First of all they are not kids at all, they have a maturity that you won’t even reach in ur habal 4 life.
Second, I would like to inform you that I lived since you were not born yet in the outside world, and my work is based on debates, not the childish ones you know, but the high level ones the kind you can’t reach with ur long lasting stupidity.
I don’t want to be re-involved again with ur bullshit discussion, I said what I have and I’m not trying to convince you, I told you there are 2 sides of the story, and I know u’re blind to see more than one.
But I only want to comment on you saying: “14 march 1989 was the start of the liberation movement against syria, it was the aounists who started it and back then ur hakim was allying with the syrians to eliminate aoun”.
This is really funny, I wonder where you acting in Lorel and Hardy in ur previous life??
First of all, i this so called liberaton movement (I consider it as destruction war) tell me did Aoun and his men tried at least to liberate one inch?? when you launch a liberation war, you should at least attack ur ennemy and try to overtake his land. but not one attack was made in this regard, on the contrary, we could have lost Souk El Gharb back then. The Aounists army was defeated, and only the LF shelling save them.
Refresh your memory.
But of course u can’t refresh it, to have a memory you should have a mind, and you don’t ya ahbal4life
