Why was Hassan Nasrallah voted as the sexiest man in the world?
Because he fucked two million people in one month.

“Victory is ours” I heard Hassan Nasrallah say on TV…and seriously I couldn’t help but smile…what victory was this man speaking of???

How does a party like Hezbollah measure victory and in what terms?

If he means victory of the Lebanese people, then, let us look carefully at the impact the last 33 days of war has had on Lebanon:

1- More than 1000 persons have lost their lives
2- Five thousand wounded
3- A million and a half homeless and displaced
4- Cost of losses due to destruction close to 5 billion dollars
5- Major foreign investors are reconsidering their investments in the country
6- Many of the educated young people are leaving the country to go out to safer places
7- Fuel for electrical plants is estimated to last another two days before it runs out…which means no electricity
8- Petrol for cars is already running short and some people are queuing for hours to be able to obtain a miserable 10 liters of the fuel.

So how can this be considered as a victory?

Unless we are talking another type of victory…the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Lebanon…then by all means it is…today, Lebanon is laid open…people are screaming from hunger…diseases are spreading like wild fire amongst the displaced and the homeless…so we have the perfect setup for a country like Iran to come in and take control…distribute some foodstuff, assist here and there in some reconstruction projects…and you have the support of the population…then launch the revolution…On the other hand, Iran wins a major playing card in the region and that is a loaded weapon aimed at the head of Israel…this would give it more leverage in the talks about its nuclear project. So it is indeed some victory…

And the best thing? It is that there are Christians who are supporting this maneuver and are part of this masquerade…I’m not being a religious bigot or anything but I mean what Christian in his right mind would support a party whose motto is “Islamic Revolution in Lebanon”??? Is a presidential post worth this? Is a couple of parliamentary seats worth this change in the face of Lebanon??? Has human nature gone so low???

Today more than ever, Lebanon is calling for all the true Lebanese for help.

Today more than ever, we need a second March 14th demo…

We need to show the whole wide world what the Lebanese think about all this…

We need to show the whole wide world that we want peace…that we refuse to live as hostages in our own country, hostages to a bunch of Islamic fanatics…

We kept silent so far not because we agreed with them, but because we wanted to avoid internal friction…we wanted to avoid the destruction of the country… well it is destroyed now… and by the look of things, there will be more destruction to come if we do not take a stand…

We have had enough of people talking for us…when we marched to kick Syria out, it was not to replace it with Iran… nor with anyone else for that matter…

I hate to sound ominous but if we do not take the future into our own hands, Lebanon will become a thing of the past…

Fellow Lebanese, your country needs you…stand up and speak out…or go back into oblivion and this time, maybe for ever.

Today, after thirty six days of intensive fighting, a cease fire was finally enforced…Great…but I guess the main question now is, where do we go from here?

According to UN Resolution 1701 that was accepted by both Israeli and Lebanese governments, UN troops will deploy to replace Israeli forces, and behind the UN, there will be Lebanese Soldiers…and Hezbollah in all that? Well they are supposed to give up their weapons and head north of the Litani river…and they lived happily ever after one might conclude…but I am afraid not…Iran doesn’t see it in this way…On Sunday there were voices from Iran speaking against the disarmament of Hezbollah…in case the reader wonders why Iran is so hyper about seeing the party of god remain in action, the reader will have to recall that Iran has until August 30th to scratch its nuclear program. So the bet is it would be much harder for the west to threaten Iran when it is pulling the strings of Hezbollah in South Lebanon. This is why so many cronies of the party of god in Lebanon, rushed yesterday to buy out more time: they started talking in the pure Arabic tradition, about talks and discussions and “resolving the issue between us”.

So things are a little more complicated than they appear at first glance.

The Lebanese government runs a very great risk of falling into a vicious circle :

  • The UN troops will not deploy if Hezbollah is still armed.
  • The Lebanese Army will not deploy if the UN troops don’t
  • Israel will not retreat if the area is not secured by both the Lebanese army and the UN troops.
  • Hezbollah is refusing to disarm as long as there are Israeli troops on Lebanese land.

Breaking this circle may prove somewhat difficult, and this would therefore place the Lebanese government in a very bad situation vis-à-vis the UN, as this would be the third resolution it fails to implement (1559 to 1701) and may also open the door for more Israeli attacks.

Israel would not be too angry if the 1701 was not upheld by the Lebanese as it would provide it with more excuses to remain in Lebanon, and finish their job. A victory over Hezbollah is all Israeli PM Olmert needs to turn the tables on the voices that have started to rise in his own backyard.

Back to the Lebanese scene…

A feeling shared by many Lebanese of all religions and of all walks of life is that failing to correctly deal with Hezbollah will be equivalent to laying the foundations for another war in the immediate future. This is causing many Lebanese to feel uneasy about coming back to Lebanon or investing in it. The same is felt by foreign investors who do not wish to have their investments blown up by an Israeli raid.

Moreover, not implementing UN Resolution 1701 could cause Lebanon to forfeit the financial aid and any help it would receive by member countries…needless to say that this money would make a great difference.

Now that the guns have stopped, reality will slowly come into focus. People will start to realize the extent of the damages, which, according to preliminary analysis is in the region of four billion US Dollars.

As winter season approaches, it will become harder to relocate the refugees back in their lands, since most of them have lost their homes. Leaving them in their current locations is also out of the question as most of these locations are public schools, which have been transformed into make shift refugee centers…Schools in Lebanon start around September.

As they have shown courage on the battle field, they should now show courage out of it. I believe Hezbollah should stop hiding behind excuses and it should realise that those supporting it locally, from Aoun to Lahoud to all the so called pro-arab parties that were in fact Syrias cronies in Lebanon are in fact looking for a free ride to power.

As they were previously questioning, at any cross point, the loyalty of the government towards Lebanon and the resistance, today the Lebanese themselves are questioning the Hezeb’s loyality to Lebanon.

I’ve had a heated discussion with one of my friends over the decision taken by the government to call the reservists to assist the army in redeploying in the South.

One of the major factors that led to immigration during the past 15 years was the military service, added to the political and economical factors, since young men were forced to serve for a year and waste their time in a syrian controlled army standing on check points all days and nights.

Hezbollah’s war against Israel is almost finished now, and the government took a historical decision by asking the Lebanese army to deploy in the South.

Most of the Christians’ reaction would be a negative one, no one willing to yet again stop their professional carreer to serve in the army and would travel and not risk losing their jobs.

Now some might say this is a selfish approach and that Christian leaders have been asking forever for the army to deploy in the South, and when the time came, no one is willing to go.

I believe the reasons behind this refusal are way deeper than that and are somehow justifiable, even though i do blame some of the Christians for their passive harmful attitude, critisizing and nagging and running away when action is required, and i blame some Christian leaderships for not encouraging the youth to integrate the army and other governmental factions.

First of all, i believe the Lebanese army is one of the most rotten and useless institutions we had, since it never fought any war when needed and never defended its own people and got divided on every occasion. It is run by a rotten chehabist line that i find disastrous.

During the 1950s, it stood between Palestinains and some Lebanese armed factions and the president Chamoun instead of doing its constitutional duty to defend the president.

Later in the 60s, it got divided and joined the armed militias instead of preserving the country’s security. In the 90s, it was responsible for beating up the youth, jailing them, setting checkpoints to harass them and defend the Syrians and Pro-Syrians in Lebanon, 7th of August is a clear proof.

All those incidents cannot but boost the feeling of hatred and disrespect that most of the young men, mainly the Christians who were exposed to all those humilitians during their struggle for freedom, towards the army and justify their choice of running away from their duties cause of their past experience with this institution.

Now given that its a critical situation and that our young men are needed to serve in the South and that its the only way to guarantee Lebanon’s sovereignty and make sure Hezbollah is disarmed and Israel is fully out, i partially blame the Christian leaders for not initiating their followers to join the army regardless of the consequences and help out in resolving this issue, of course while giving them some guarantees for the future.

Similary the government should wisely recall the reservists and not turn this decision into another unpopular one. Everyone was supportive of the government, but in return it must let us believe in it and trust it and to a certain extent, given the history of the army and its pratices, convince the youth in general and specifically the Christian youth of joining the army through fast and pratical methods since we only have a week or two.

What i propose though is that the government asks the General surety and police to help the army redeploy and assist in monitoring the regions since the police is one of the oldest and successfull and efficient institutions in Lebanon and it is well armed too.

Regards,

UN Resolution 1701 was voted yesterday by all members of the security council therefore putting an end to the Israeli-Hezbollah war and paving the way for UN Troops deployement in the South.

One thing is for sure, Lebanon lost but Hezbollah is the biggest loser.
Hezbollah accepted the unconditional Lebanese army deployment, therefore putting an end to his military role, and since his politics depend 99 % on his weapons, he put an end to his regional political role.

Iran and Syria were unable of influencing the decisions taken, Syria was ‘kicked’ out of the Arab league meeting in Beirut and Iran received a warning from the UN and a deadline for stoppping all nuclear activity.

Hezbollah claimed to have started the war to free the Lebanese prisoners in Israel. The UN resolution voted did not mention one word about the prisoners. the Israeli prisoners will be naturally handed to the Lebanese government since Hezbollah will be disarmed and i dont think our government is as reckless as Hezbollah to not give away the soldiers.

Both Israel and Lebanon won equally i believe, Israel by wiping out Hezbollah and giving a clear message to all terrorist groups that it ll attack anyone threatening her security and her people, whether the whole world wants it or not.

Added to that, the resolution asks Lebanon “to deploy their forces together throughout the South and calls upon the government of Israel, as that deployment begins, to withdraw all of its forces from southern Lebanon in parallel; “ which means Israel will keep on monitoring the South and will not withdraw until the Lebanese army completes its deployment, and so if Hezbollah tries something funny during this period, it ll respond without anyone telling her to stop.

Lebanon got rid of the last armed militia in his country and the government proved to be worthy handling crisis periods. We gained world wide support and put ourselves on the right track. Its true we endured major economical and human losses but the after-war period if handled properly will make Lebanon get back on its feet within 3 to 5 years time if not less.

May all those who died rest in peace and lets hope this will be the last war we have .

Regards,

The title that i find more appropriate for this blog, only problem is that its long, is:
Bashir Gemayel’s reaction the 1982 Israeli Invasion: Fatal political mistake or courageous act ?

I was having a debate 2 days ago with friends about the 1982 Israeli invasion and the LF and Sheikh Bashir Gemayel ’s reaction back then.
It is known that the Israeli operation in 1982 was led by Ariel Sharon, who wanted to establish himself as a major political player and planned the invasion without his government’s total approval, hoping he ll take some credit from Christian leader Bashir Gemayel for destroying the Palestinians and be able to force himself in the Israeli political scene.

Sharon’s offer was to ally with Bashir and support the Christians in general in Lebanon, and evenn had in mind of dividing Lebanon, giving the Christians the biggest part and keeping them in full control.

The Advantages for the Christians were immense, a political and military support from Israel and therefore from Americans, a vital alliance with a highly developed country like Israel having an impressive industrial sector. Added to that, the Lebanese lobby would be able to grow stronger working with the most powerful lobby in the world, the jewish lobby.

In sum, Christians will be safe and prosperous on all levels, but will have to sacrifice their arab relations and their country and will be influenced by Israeli’s political decisions since he s allying to a much stronger force.

This package was all in Bashir’s hands, but he was a leader and a fighter and a president that strongly believed in Lebanon and in its people and could not accept allying with another country against his own people.

However, after the Taef agreement and the Muslim political parties siding with Syrians against Christians, and nowadays with the Shiites taking us into a regional war for a cause we never believed in, we feel that our freedom and equal representation are highly threatened more than ever.

My question is,
Wasnt it wise for Sheikh Bashir Gemayel to take this deal and guarantee the Christians freedom and sovereignty, knowing that Muslims groups betrayed us throughout 15 years by obeying the Syrians and persecuting us and weakening us on every possible occasion.

There is no doubt Bash took a very courageous and i consider historial decision back then, but looking at whats been happening latey and in the past 15 years, i dont see why accepting such an alliance would have been the wrong and unpatriotic thing to do.

According to military analysts from DEBKA-Net-Weekly (an online journal with close ties to Israeli intelligence community), the points below mark IDF’s six principal failings in the Lebanon war

1. Israeli elected leaders, Olmert and defense minister Peretz, lack military experience and the skills required for managing a war.

2. The military leadership qualities of chief of staff Lt.-General Halutz, former commander of the air force where he grew up, are questionable.

3. Olmert’s predecessor left him with a flawed legacy. During his six and-a- half years as premier, Ariel Sharon shook up the top levels of the IDF’s general command, military intelligence and the Mossad (although not the Shin Bet) and stuffed them with appointees who subscribed to his political philosophy.

Israel’s top military and security echelons have never before been picked for their political outlook. Sharon’s axe created a monolithic establishment lacking in the motivation burning in their predecessors for developing brilliantly innovative methods of warfare.

4. In six years of counter-terror warfare against the Palestinians, the IDF focused on perfecting small-time tactics for keeping local terror fires under control, but failed to produce methods applicable to a transition from fighting terrorists to waging war. Hizballah has foisted this transition on the Israeli military.

5. Israeli war planners, like the US army in Iraq, came to rely too heavily on air power, firepower and hi-tech weaponry for combating terror. They neglected to draw the lessons of the three-year Iraq war.

6. Hizballah’s tacticians and their Iranian Revolutionary Guards mentors studied every Israeli move in its 2002 Defensive Wall Operation against the Palestinian terrorist stronghold of Jenin, which ended in all the towns of the West Bank falling to the Israeli military. Taking this battle as their master plan, they invented a new war doctrine to fit a Hizballah offensive against an Israeli army which had not revised its doctrines of war in the intervening four years.

Hizballah’s shadowy leader, the long-wanted Imad Mughniyeh, was hurriedly appointed commander of the southern front as a last resort to save South Lebanon from falling to Israel.

Military and counter-terror sources maintain that this appointment raises the conflict to a new and dangerous level on several counts.

Mughniyeh, wanted for a quarter of a century by the FBI for the huge bombing attacks he orchestrated on the US embassy in Beirut and American and French troops, as well as a spate of hijackings and murders, is important enough to take orders from no-one ranking lower than Iran’s supreme ruler, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Those orders come through the Revolutionary Guards commander Gen. Rahim Safavi. Therefore, placing Mughniyeh at the head of Hizballah forces in South Lebanon confronts Israeli prime minister Olmert uncomfortably close to Iran’s supreme leader; ranges defense minister Peretz opposite his Iranian counterpart Mustafa Najer and chief of staff Lt. Gen Dan Halutz opposite Gen. Safavi, while on the warfront, Israel’s war leaders face the formidable Mughniyeh, Tehran’s secret weapon for rescuing Hizballah from collapse.

Informed circles in the West have a high opinion of Mughniyeh’s military, intelligence and tactical skills. His hand was seen in the transformation of al Qaeda’s 2001 defeat in Afghanistan into a launch pad for its anti-US campaign in Iraq and many other ventures in the terror war against America. After the death of Abu Musab al Zarqawi, Mughniyeh is rated the world Islamic terror movement’s most outstanding field commander. Therefore, while the appointment is a measure of Israel’s belated military success in the Lebanese war, it also brings the conflict ever closer to two dangerous orbits – Tehran and al Qaeda.

Mughniyeh is the only undercover agent in the Middle East who enjoys the complete personal trust of Khamenei and Osama bin Laden, on both of whom he is in a position to call for aid. On the diplomatic front, even if the United States and France can get together on a unified UN Security Council ceasefire resolution, DEBKAfile’s military sources report that neither Iran nor Hizballah has any intention of complying with a resolution dictated by the United States, France and Israel.

This article was posted today in Annahar, it reminds us 6 years ago when Martyr Gebran Tueni wrote an editorial asking for the deployment of the army in the South to avoid future conflicts.

Translation of that last sentence :
It is a golden opportunity that the government must not waste and fall in the Israeli trap, because if we fall into that trap, the Middle East table will turn on all its players and God knows how costly the price will be ..

I mean I really think he s doing an amazing diplomatic effort and is exploiting every single second trying to end up this war in Lebanon’s favor, but does he have to cry?

I saw him almost crying during the first meeting with foreign ambassadors, then yesterday he lost it. I understand the pressure and stress and all but come on!! Do we wanna look weaker than we already are?

I just find it weird and unlikely of a prime minister, I keep on thinking he’s playing it emotionally to leave a trace in every country’s representative. Anyway Lebanon is crying its martyrs and its villages, is crying its youth leaving, maybe we should all drop a tear from time to time if it helps to end this ugly war.

I posted earlier on how I am planning to leave Lebanon, but I insisted that i still love my country and feel committed to it more than ever. The only problem is I need to build myself a strong future to support my country later on.

What do i like most about Lebanon? our people refuses to die or more our people r crazy

yes Lebanon is crazy, Lebanese are crazy.. which sort of makes me crazy too. I believe our people went through and overcame so many wars, so many invasions, so many problems that they developped a certain immunity and their reactions are unexplainable, starting with me

We are at war, yet I was in Gemmayze few days ago having my Katyoushya shot with friends. few days before, I was in Broumana where it was so crowded you would think its Monot.

During Syrian invasion, we used to go demonstrate get beaten and laugh our asses off, get interrogated and make fun of the police. I still recall one incident when friends of mine were caught and they started calling the police women names just to piss them off.

I cannot find a better description than crazy. Since war has begun, the main reactions of most of the Lebanese were the following (even for those from the South, and i do know many people from there).

- Where are we gonna party now? Problem was solved since most night clubs moved to Faraya Mzaar, Faqra and Klay3at.

- They polluted the sea, we cannot swim anymore now and we cant get tanned.

- We cannot party till 4 or 5 am since its the bombings time ,so better be home at 3 (or try to get urself a chalet and spend the night there).

- We stay in line for hours on the gas stations, so we can fill up the car to go to the beach or Faraya to party!!

- We get food supplies in case war will take very long, i was at some friend who got pringles, chips, nutella and all sorts of chocolates and sweets to ’stay’ alive.

- Thank God arguileh shops were not affected by the bombings, if we wanna die at least be high and happy.

- Wars and Bombings are nice occassions for exploring the internet world, everyone wants internet connection now to keep in touch (poor folks who buy that while their kids are chatting in every single internet room on the planet exploiting their war situation to attract the girls lol).

- Everyone speaks hebrew and knows all about the IDF and brags about it in front of his friends…

I ve honestly lived an exceptional ‘war’ experience with a person too, listening to the bombings in Dahyeh every night, waking up on voice mails from Israel. It s very hard to explain but its part of the Lebanese craziness and i am sure i wouldnt have experienced what i did if it wasnt for the war.

We feel sorry for the people who died, we really do but somehow we believe our message is to prevail and live normally, not feel bad and stay home.

At least this is how i feel and many of my friends do, and i thought i share it.

We are a people that refuses to die, lost interest in wars and bombings and will live normally under all circumstances and make the best out of it.

Next thing, if electricity is off, we ll have instead of network places ‘Risk & Monopoly’ and cards places and u ll have local championships wou Hekmeh wou Riyadeh etc etc ..

Anyway, cant wait for the war to end for a very specific reason that has nothing to do with politics, am thinking on turning pacifist and demonstrate to end it faster lol.

I am sad for whats happening, and my previous post expressed that clearly, but this is how myself and most of the Lebanese react.

Cheers.

Why was this fat pig even allowed to get into Lebanon ?
Thank You Jumblatt and Hakim for blasting him but thats not enough, this filth should not be allowed here, demonstrations should have been organized everywhere and pressured him to leave.

Coming to Lebanon praising Hezbollah and Lahoud and sending Bashar’s salutes , saying he s ready for a regional war and he ll proudly join Hizbullah and refusing the UN resolution.

Hezbollah supporters destroyed the UN building for no reason and dragged us into this war and thanked Syria earlier for their invasion, yet we allow M3allem to come and visit as if nothing happened ?

Where are our thousands of prisoners in Syria ?
Where s the paper showing Shebaa is Lebanese ?
When are we gonna draw the borders for good ?

We deserve more than this war if we let things like this visit happen without reactions.

2i3raf 3adouwak Al souri 3adouwwak.

For those who are following the news closely, you might have noticed the change in Nasrallah’s speech lately and the change in the timing and quantity of rockets being launched.
After the Baalbeck operation and then the Tyr one, Hezbollah for the first time launched missiles during the night, and for the next few days, has been launching more than 100 or 200 missiles in less than an hour.

Nasrallah was almost begging for a cease-fire during his last interview, as if sensing that his defeat is close.

Now there are two possible explanations :
- Hezbollah is losing drastically and is trying to finish off his missiles before Israeli hits the launchers.
Added to that Hezbollah is launching more rockets into a specific location therefore causing lots of casualties ( 12 israelies killed yesterday in one attack). The aim of such a strategy is to make Israel cause more massacres and turn the public opinion against it and impose a cease-fire.

- Hezbollah is still in control and still intensifying the attacks during the diplomatic talks so that he doesnt show any sign of weakness but on the contrary gain points in talks.

Lets hope he s just going down :)

There is an anti-Syrian demonstration tomorrow organized to denounce the visit of Walid el Mou3allim, the Syrian minister to Lebanon.
Gathering is at the Kataeb office in Achrafieh at 10:30.
