Whats with all those demands for the change in Government??

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

Lately, this topic has been the subject of every major or minor political debate and discussion… change the government…down with Sanioura’s govt…etc…

Suddenly, everyone forgot the efforts put up by PM Sanioura during the 34 days of the Israeli onslaught on Lebanon…everyone forgot the important role he played in the making of resolution 1701…everyone forgot the stress and the hardships the man successfully went through to see a cease to the hostilities brought through…the question that comes to mind is WHY???

The way I, and many fellow Lebanese see it, is that the demand for a govt overthrow is an offensive defense… i.e., HA knows that it is cornered, and must submit its weapons sooner or later…having learned from the lessons of the past (I’m sure HN is very weary of the LF experience from the time they unconditionally handed in their weapons until 2005 and is not willing to repeat the same mistakes), HA wants to raise the stakes at the negotiations table as much as possible in order to sell their weapons for the highest political price attainable… so it is all a question of time…

Going to the street, IMO, is not a viable solution because despite all that is said, this would be a replay of 8th march/14th march 2005…HA knows better than to play the numbers game this time…

This would leave them with the other choice, and that is to withdraw their ministers from the govt…here again, I doubt they will venture into such a thing…as for going the long way by having their MPs resign, and forcing a new election, I believe it would take too long a time for it to achieve the desired results…

My first question to those that are calling for a change in govt: who do you have in mind to form the new govt?

  1. Saad el Hariri? IMO, and with all due respect, he is not PM material…neither his age, nor his political expertise warrant the post…
  2. Siniora? what the heck…he is already there…what are they trying to do?
  3. Karami? Well…twice he was selected as PM and twice he was overthrown by public protests…care to go for a 3rd???
  4. Mr. X? what is his agenda? What are his positions towards Syria? I’m guessing that HA’s definition of “national unity” is “anyone who is pro HA” … from what we have seen lately, that includes a whole bunch of ex Syrian henchmen and cronies…are we in front of another attempt to reintroduce Syria??????? I mean just like they have a right to question the “patriotism” of anyone, we, the remainder of the Lebanese people, have the same right…after all, Lebanon is still our land…

My second question is what does HA want from the new “bayen wizari” or governmental agenda?

  • Recognition of its right to bear arms? once the Shebaa farms issue is settled, this right will exist no longer…
  • vetoing power? that would be contrary to any democratic concept…and frankly speaking, a vetoing power in the hands of the likes of HA and aoun is indeed a scary thought, especially after all we have seen in the last two months in terms of political agendas…
  • including major powers in the govt? IMO this is an empty one…in any democracy, parties participate in govts through coalitions with other parties…moreover, what is, in HA’s dictionary, the definition of “major party”? I’m betting they mean the FPM…hey doesn’t the famous “memorandum of understanding” constitute such a coalition? or are there hidden factors no one is aware of?? as for the other political figures, I doubt they deserve to be called a party, well, at best they are a bunch of has-beens who want a spot in the limelight and are ready to do whatever it takes…

My third question is what can be achieved with Lahoud still in power??? basing my analysis on his performance in the last year, as well as his unhidden bias for Syria, he would use delaying tactics to negatively affect the timely formation of the new govt…

This would mean constitutional vacuum, and of course could lead to, among many other problems, a cancellation of the international court…a purely Syrian demand…everyone remembers how HA deputies boycotted all cabinet meetings with the aim of sabotaging the international court project.

Is this another attempt to do so? are we today catering for requests of Bachar in his last speech???

I mean it is clear that the only beneficiary of this cancellation would be Syria and anyone involved in the assassination…

I, as many, have a lot to reproach to this govt…it may not be the best we have, and it certainly committed a lot of mistakes in its lifetime, but overthrowing it now would be a grave tactical mistake…

IMO, the change should start at the top of the pyramid…change the president…it is high time that Lahoud goes…then, with a LEBANESE president, one with only LEBANON’s interests at heart, can we embark in the rest of the journey…changes would include everything from the weapons of HA to main political figures today on the scenes…

As the saying goes, if you want to do it, do it right, or don’t…

The Forgotten Christian Refugees

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

I have been reading in newspaper on the plans the government, Hezbollah and many other institutions and organizations set up to get all the Shiite refugees back to their houses.

Furnished flats are already available for those whose houses were destroyed, financial aid will be provided sufficiently to every family relatively to the damage done.

I was reading and remembering how the government took care of the refugees of the Mountain war back in 1983. Hundreds of thousands of Christian fled their villages through the valleys and mountains to get safely to the coast, leaving their houses behind and all their wealth.

This war happened 23 years ago and till today, many villages were still destroyed, many villagers still cant go back mainly due to political reason and most of all, the government havent done 1 % of what is being done right now.

Both are human and both were forced to leave their houses and both are LEBANESE.
Why werent those refugees helped ? and how come no one is asking for their rights except Patriarch Sfeir who addressed he government saying the help should be just to all communities ?

What happened to the nation reconliation Batrak signed ?
It is shameful that Christian parties nowadays dont ask about the refugees from the moutain war and most specifically the Lebanese Forces who lost hundreds of martyrs defending the villages against the hateful and unhuman Syrian-Druze attack.

We dont want speeches anymore, we need action.
Talks about disarming Hezbollah have led us to war started by Hezbollah himself.

Nasrallah Cheap speech

Monday, August 28th, 2006

It s known that Nasrallah’s speeches are never addressed to his own people since they only follow orders blindly, but to all parties in Lebanon, specially those who oppose him.
He speeches in a such a convincing way that most people fail to see the cheap talks and the threats behind every speech not to mention the lies.

” Again threats and threats that he wont give away his weapons and he s allowed to resist anytime and start another destructive war, even though he clearly states below that he wouldnt have started that war if he knew if it would turn that bad.
This man is a national threat and i hope the government will keep on pressuring him to disarm.

السيد حسن نصرالله: “الجيش اللبناني سيلقى منا كل تسهيل وكل الدعم والمساندة واي شيء ممكن ان يحرج الجيش لن نفعله”
“Few days ago, Joe Sarkis reported that Hezbollah armed men were dressed up as civilians and doing checkpoints, this will really help the army, added to hiding weapons in houses and not giving them away.
Hezbollah must obey to the army’s orders and disarm, not facilitate his mission .. lek malla mas***** and what arrogance !

السيد حسن نصرالله :”لا مشكلة لدي بلقاء الامين العام للامم المتحدة كوفي انان وهناك بعض الاتصالات للتحضير للقاء بيننا ولكن الاشكال الوحيد امني”

Again, its the government that decides and not you Mr.Nasrallah.

1701 asks for applying 1559 which asks for disarmin Hezbollah. Do not insult our intelligence. Hezbollah is the only reason keeping Israel here and not vice versa. Hezbollah is the only illegitimate party according to the 1701 since if you read it well Ya 7assan, u ll see Israeli troops will withdraw when UN troops arrive while Hezbollah MUST disarm now.

Waynak, 3a 2asses Maroun el Rass resisted the Israelies and kept them out?? I saw an Israeli flag there and over 20 villages 2 days ago on the news ..

السيد حسن نصرالله: “لو علمت ان عملية الاسر كانت ستقود الى هذه النتيجة لما قمنا بها قطعا.”

Now if this is a civilized developped country, a man that states such a dangerous quote should be judged and shot. He dragged the whole country into a war he wasnt aware of ??

السيد حسن نصرالله:”اي احد من اليوم وصاعدا يفكر بفتح حرب على لبنان سيعمل «الف والفين حساب”
” I think this applies to Hezbollah too that will think 1000 times before kidnapping more soldiers, so stop lying to urself and others”

السيد حسن نصرالله:”ان الحجم الحقيقي للصواريخ التي سقطت على اسرائيل اكثر من اربعة الاف صاروخ وهذا اقل بكثير من خمسين بالمئة من قدرتنا العسكرية”
” What did u achieve by launching all those rockets ? Did u protect the civilians and villages and bridges ? I dont think so

السيد حسن نصرالله:”الطائف يلزمنا بحكومة وحدة وطنية”

Taef asks for disarming all militias before anything, again stop insulting our intelligence.

Hezbollah is by far the last party that is concerned about Christian rights and have been trying to erupt more fights between Sunnites, Druzes and Christians for months now.
You want Taef, disarm as Taef says and be a political side in Lebanon, nothing more nothing less.

Finally, speech after speech, it is showing that Hezbollah;s only way of surviving politically is through his weapons and his threatening speeches, but diplomacy was the only winner in the last war Mr.Nasrallah and it will crush ur party in few months if the government keeps acting that way, so either accept that fact and join the diplomacy or die slowly.

Lebanon-Israel Round2 could be avoided ?

Sunday, August 27th, 2006

I ve posted earlier that a second round is very probable, and listed the causes for this asumption, but the past few days have shown success of Lebanese diplomacy on many levels which is reassuring and could avoid us a second round or at least could result in a concentrated second round.

The situation in Israel is still the same and is even getting worse with lots of scandales showing up and the different parties asking the government and the army for justifications on the military partial failure they faced.

As for Lebanon, the army is still deploying in the South and the government is taking drastic measures, in fact after the LF minister reported spotting Hezbollah armed men dressed as civilians in several villages, the government ordered the army and security to resolve the issue on the spot and spot those armed men and even Hezbollah ministers admitted their presence. Of course we need time for testing the efficiency of the army and i believe general surety and police members should be sent to help the army.

But what is more reassuring are the 7000 troops coming to Lebanon in 10 days time, along with the help being proposed by Germany to monitor the coasts in order to stop any weapons from getting to Hezbollah, added to the UNIFIL troops that will monitor the borders with Syria along with the Lebanese army.

I strongly support the government’s efforts which are showing that Lebanese diplomacy was the only winner in Lebanon.

We have an international support no country in the world ever had, and if we are stupid enough to spoil this opportunity, then maybe we are not worthy being helped.

The only parties that could trouble this diplomacy are Iran and Syria and their agents (Hezbollah and co ) in Lebanon.

Regards,

Red Alert.

Friday, August 25th, 2006

It is time that someone turns on the Red Alert, before it is too late, before all Christians leave their villages in the South.

History repeats itself, but every time with a higher price. Southern Christian villages are threatened to be deserted, then sold to Shia, then become a copy of Maroun El Ras, a Christian village with Shiaa citizens.

In the Liberation, they paid their large share, Debel for example lost more than 60 % of its citizens running away from Hizbulla’s revenge, now they are in Israel or any other place, and do not have the right to come back, I’ve already discussed this in an earlier article (In The Memory Of The Liberation) and they’ve economically and socially payed and I also already discussed this issue in another article ( The Real Resistance).

Now, once again, Southern are paying the double price, this time it will be a high price, this time their presence is endangered. This time if everybody kept watching, and maximum nagging, in 10 years there will be no Christians in the South.

Their houses are destroyed, heavily destroyed, and no one of them really believes Hizbulla will help them, they might give them some dollars, just for the public reputation, but sure it won’t be enough to rebuild and return to the normal life. One little example, all their water installations are destroyed because of the battles, they all have no water, and even if water arrived to villages, they can’t store it; this is just a little sample.

Berri, himself, set as priority punishing those villages, because they did not vote for his list; Berri can punish them hard since he handles the prices of Tobaco in the South, and those villages live from that agriculture.

Schools there are destroyed. there is a school for the Maronite nuns, that will probably not open, because Shiaas are not there to send their children, therefore Christians will have to go to the cities to get some education; Christians go in a one way trip, leaving behind them destroyed and half destroyed houses, while Shiaas will go, but later come back to live in their rebuilt houses, buy Christian villages lands, and make sure no Christian comes back.

You need a 1 hour with a young man from those villages, to realize his anger towards all, yes all, Christian leaders, for leaving them alone, using them in speeches; they are even mad at the Maronite church, especially at Saida bishop for letting them alone, desperate.

Those young men and ladies started work instead of sitting and nagging, a new institution is formed, named AWFA, we are all urged to help that institution by ALL means, we are all urged, now more than ever, to help them as much as possible, to go to the South, to be beside them, ready for anything they might ask for!! They are now doing a sum up for casualties, later on will start solving the problems one after one, as much as possible.

It is time, if not too late, to wake up, to really work for our real cause, instead of our sick attitudes of running after power and governance. It is a RED ALERT.

To those patriots that hate Israel, why do you still love Syria???

Friday, August 25th, 2006

I was thinking yesterday, after hearing the news that Syria decided to cut off its electricity supplies to Lebanon, and threatening to close its borders, I was thinking that how much more evidence do those so called patriots, for whom Syria is the elder sister, need in order to be convinced that Syria does not want stability in Lebanon…

In an earlier article
I discussed this matter, but today, I wish to ask the anti March 14th alliance, why do they still consider supporting Syria as patriotic? I mean if you want to do something, do it right or don’t do it at all…

Let us recall Syria’s actions in Lebanon…

From 1976 to 2005, Syria was present in Lebanon.

Syria’s mandate when it came in as part of an arab peace keeping force, was to assist the Lebanese government in dismantling Palestinian guerilla fighters that were posing a big threat for Israel, and by so doing, help bring about a stop to the civil war that had erupted a year ago. It over extended this mandate, literally kicked out other members of the peace keeping force, and then as time went by, it strengthened its grasp until the whole of Lebanon was under its control. A presence that lasted for a total of 29 years.

Throughout its stay in Lebanon, Syria has assassinated political figures from all sects and political affiliations (Mufti Hassan Khaled, Kamal Junblat, Bachir Gemayel, Moawad, Rafik Hariri) as well as anti Syrian activists such as Ramzi Irani, Pierre Boulos, Jubran Tueini, Samir Kassir…those two lists are by no means exhaustive…many files for unsolved crimes were either destroyed or archived for “lack of evidence”.

Throughout its presence in the country, Syria interfered with every single political action that occurred. From appointments of simple governmental employees all the way to strategic figures in Parliament, the Prime Minister as well as the Presidency.

Syria tapped freely into Lebanese water supplies, Lebanese electricity and levied taxes on many necessities such as fuel. Syrian workers were allowed to work without any paperwork on Lebanese soil, they were not subjected to any of the laws that govern foreign employees, they paid no income taxes, and most of all they had precedence over more skilled employees from other nationalities such as Egyptian, Sudanese etc…
(more…)

Syria…what more do they want???

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

What many Lebanese are failing to realize, either because they do not see the whole picture or because it does not suit them to see it, its that Syria cannot tolerate a strong Lebanon.

This has its roots far back in history…
Until the 70s, Syria had a very unstable political setup…there was a coup d’etat every other day (figuratively speaking) and most of these were prepared and cooked back in Lebanon.
Hafez al Assad realized this and saw that the key to his firm grasp of the Syrian arena was through controlling Lebanon…we saw what we saw from 1976 all the way to today even…

The next point is that Syria’s economy is very much dependent on Lebanon…many goods are smuggled through the borders into Lebanon and sold for higher prices than they would fetch back in Syria…Also the drug and weapons trade is a very lucrative one for Syrian merchants…All these bring in a large sum of money that helps the Syrian economy stay stable. A UN force on the borders would put a massive dent in this traffic…

The Third point is that a strong govt. in Lebanon ultimately means there are going to be demands for Syria’s accountability in the actions she did during the 29 years it stayed in Lebanon…every single sect in Lebanon at one point or another, suffered from Syrian occupation…we still have hundreds of prisoners in Syrian jails, regardless of what some unscrupulous, so called Lebanese, politicians may say…

The fourth and equally important point is that a strong govt in a stable Lebanon will carry on with the investigation of the Harriri murder and alongside this, there will be an international court…and Syria, more precisely the Syrian regime, ranks very high in the list of suspects…

All those points should explain to you why Bachar el Assad is so keen on destabilizing the country…UN troops on the border will allow the UN Resolution 1701 to be carried out faster, and therefore speed up Israeli withdrawals, which would ultimately mean a light in the long dark tunnel we, the Lebanese,  have been crossing…
Hearing Bachar el Assad on Dubai TV last night is enough to show you his real motives: “any demarcation of the borders in Shebaa farms will cause HA to become illegal…and we do not want that… let the Israelis withdraw, then we will delimit the border…”  translate this as : “ooops looks like the Lebanese are going to get Shebaa farms after all…lets try and stop this…”

The latest threat to reach us from Damascus, came from their minister of foreign affairs, Mr Moallem, and that was to close the borders between the two countries if ever UN troops were deployed between Lebanon and Syria…
IMO, let them close them…lets see who will loose…we are still at war…so I guess suffering for a couple of weeks is much better than to keep suffering for your lifetime and that of your kids…

Lebanon should at last do whatever is in its own interests…for nearly thirty one years, we have been doing whatever suited the others…be it Syria, Iran, Palestine and the list is long… Time now to look into our own interests…

Bashir the Dream

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006

I was attending the 24th memorial for Bash’s presidency organized by the BG Foundation today.
Event was very well organized and the quotes veryyy well picked.

Its amazing how you can relate all the quotes by Bashir to the problems we are facing now, and how sad that we do not have a strong man like him nowadays to handle those issues firmly like he used to do .

I remember one of his quotes saying :
” I wanna build a Lebanon for the year 2000, not keeping on healing the wounds of the 1943 pact and standing still”

We are in a situation worse than back in 1982, and it is because we are still following the same politicians who are short-sighted and corrupted, yet the people still votes for them.

I dont think we ll ever get a president like Sheikh Bashir, and unless we learn from him how to handle issue, we ll keep regretting him forever and destroy his dream of a strong Lebanon.

Fed up with all this….

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006

What’s really sad these days is that one cannot express his or her anger at the situation, at the uncertainties facing the Lebanese people, at the lack of security that the weapons of Hezbollah have generated amongst a large number of Lebanese citizens without being faced with labels of treason and collaboration…

What’s more any conversation you start, is automatically turned into a pro/con Hezbollah dispute…and worse, you become anti Shiite if you dare utter a word against Hezbollah…

I mean what is so complex in there? what is making it so hard for people to finally understand that we are Lebanese just like they are, we care for Lebanon just like they claim to, we shed blood for this country just like they did, we resisted foreign occupation just like they did…

Why is there this denial anytime the subject is approached? Why is there this desire to move the country towards dictatorship, where one part of the population takes all the decisions and the rest must follow without any questions or risk reprisals? Why has it become impossible to talk about the issues that this nation is facing without the dialog being sidetracked?

When the war started, we were told keep any comments we had till after the war because the people had to show unity in front of the problem…so we did…we took the bombings, the ruining of the economy…we accepted the lack of basic human needs, the sad stories coming from relatives in the south about them being used as human shields…till the day the ceasing of hostilities was declared…

When we came to voice our concerns and our anger at the whole thing, we were told that there were dead bodies to burry, and that out of respect we should keep silent…

Yet in parallel, we heard voices calling for an overthrow of the government, for a new government of so called “National Unity”…also in parallel, we saw amounts of money being paid to some of those who were affected by the bombardments as if in an effort to create a wave of public outcry against the government…

When the Syrian president Bachar el Assad made his remarks as to March 14 group being an Israeli product, an MP from Hezbollah came out with remarks yet he retracted them soon afterwards…

This surely looks like one side staying still while the other side is digging a grave for it…

As civilized people, we try to solve problems through diplomacy…yet in the face of blindness and utter arrogance, the most plomatic means sometimes are fruitless: you point out a problem, they come screaming at you that you are heartless…you raise a question, you are either threatened by death or better still, declared as an Israeli agent which amounts to the same thing as legalizing your murder…

Whatever you say, you are replied by “we are the majority”…although what majority is that, I cannot understand…We tried, after the Syrian pullout, to dialog to use the diplomatic way to diffuse the Hezbollah arms issue, and push aside the bitter cup that was raised in the form of Israeli threats, yet it was in vain…

How can a group that beleives in “turning the other cheek” deal with a group fanatically convinced of “an eye for an eye” ???

This can no longer be tolerated…It appears that the more we try to play along the lines of cohabitation the more the other side understands this as fear and weakness…

I can assure you that it is neither…we do not want anymore wars, but if this is the price to pay for this country to regain a similarity of peace and tranquility we will pay it…

How to Wipe Your Ass in Syria?

Monday, August 21st, 2006

Mail from my american cousin who just got to the States.
I thought i share it with you guys.

I can say with clarity that I have a pretty good judge of character. Not just for people, but for all things: plants, animals, rocks, and the nicer-looking ketchup bottles. I typically make a decent evaluation in my head before coming to my once-and-for-all conclusion. Having said that, allow me to expand a bit and state that I could feel dirt and grime start to fuse itself onto my skin as soon as I set foot on Syrian soil.

Yes, Syria. Having no other choice to leave but through there, what else could I do? Now I’m not the biggest fan of these Middle Eastern countries because the people and their governments make them terrible, but surely there must be some redeeming value, right?

Wrong.

Syria, from what I could tell, was just gross. To expand on that point a bit, I’m Lebanese. Now, my country has had the shit beaten out of it for well over 40 years, and it still looks better than Syria. Lebanon, with all its explosions and attacks on the innocent, is still infinitely better-looking than that previously-mentioned shithole. Syria has no grass to speak of and the stench can practically be seen in the air.

Where I was stopped until declared “approved” to get to my next stop from Syria, I was met with resistance. The guards/army men/fucking idiots who run the major Syrian checkpoint were initially very much so against letting me through their checkpoint/border/wherever-the-fuck-I-was and loved to harass me every step of the way. The only reason I’m in America writing this article today is because those sleazy bastards wanted a bribe, which they got.

Aside from their picture-perfect example of the wonderful Syrian law-enforcers, there’s also the country itself. I tapped on it a little bit, but let’s go further in depth. You’d think that professional institutions would be a bit refined. Dignified, even. But that’s not the case with this place (hey, I rhymed!). Upon arriving at the airport, the country’s lack of care showed in even the simplest of things. Take toilets, for example. We all know toilets as a circular bowl that you sit on and do your business. What was I met with in Syria? A hole in the ground. Read that again. If I wanted to take a shit, I would have to collect three or four tissues from a woman sitting on front of the bathrooms, go inside a stall, squat over a toilet, and lose all self-respect.

When asked what the hell was going on with the toilets and the handing out of toilet paper, the woman sadly responded that the country was going to shit and there was nothing they could do about it. Even with all the crap that Lebanon’s been through, it is still infinitely better-looking than the giant toilet-bowl (or hole in the ground, as it were).

I thankfully got the hell out of there as quickly as time would allow, which was only a few hours. As soon as I got to my next destination, I took a ten-hour shower just to get rid of the smell that Syria’s air had inflicted on me.

In short, you wouldn’t jump in a mud puddle in your new expensive shoes. Liken the shoes to you and the mud puddle to Syria. Enough said.

Shiites of Lebanon .. What exactly do u want?

Saturday, August 19th, 2006

Lebanon just went through the second most destructive war of its history after the 1975-1990 civil war. If we simply look at the outcome, we realize the following :

1- Lebanon’s infrastructure was severly hit with tens of bridges and houses and powerplants and stations and highways totalled.
2 -Lebanon’s economy was strongly hit, majorily the services and tourism sectors and lots of foreign investors changed their minds and packed and left.
3- Human losses between injuries and deaths are counted by thousands, added to the tens of thousands of houses destroyed.
4- More than 200 000 Lebanese fled outside Lebanon, among them 30 000 fresh graduates.
5- Over a million Lebanese were displaced from their houses.

The most affected community by this war was the Shiite community, who suffered most of the losses and lost their houses and were displaced, BUT surprinsingly i find them honoring Hezbollah’s so-called victory and careless about what happened to their country !!!!

I understand a people cheering its independance after freeing itself from an invader, similarly to what happened on the 14th of march, but having a militia within a state STARTING a war against Israel and using civilian buildings to defend itself and destroying the country and making its youth leave and putting us in a deeper shit hole politically and economically ??!!@!?

Now can any shiite tell me what did we win ?? Did we disarm Israel so it wont bomb us anymore ? Did we convince the UN we should not be disarmed ? Did we convince our own people about the purpose of this resistance ?

It really hurts to see our own brothers and sisters supporting a party destroying our country and then cheering for him, we all agree Israel is an ennemy, its an external side who wants its interest, but Hezbollah is a problem inside Lebanon, a problem for many Lebanese.

I just have two questions for the Shiites, the non-brainwashed ones:

1- Do you believe in a sovereign free finite Lebanon ? a non-Muslim non-Christian united strong Lebanon ? ruled equally by all its communities ? defended by the Lebanese army and no one else ?

2- What are your priorites as a policial group ? founding ur Islamic Iranian republic in Lebanon or a proxy to Iran ? or working with other communities on founding a strong Lebanon ?

3- Finally, i ask you to clarify your position from Taef and the Lebanese consitution and ur views towards Lebanon for the near future.

What is the Lebanon you want ? or better Do you want Lebanon at all ?

Christians have already expressed this thought through a general meeting in Deir Aoukar back in 1980 and i think this text should be the foundation for the rise of a new Lebanon.

I copied one extract from the opening of the text written by the legendary Charles Malek

” The document sets in motion a fundamental debate among the Lebanese themselves. Tile Christians have formulated their views with the utmost sense of, responsibility. Let tire others now put forward theirs. A fruitful dialogue should then ensue. One hopes that it will also provoke an examination of conscience by tire governments and peoples oj’ the world, both East and West. No one responsibly concerned for the great events unfolding in the Middle East today can afford now to ignore the convictions of the Christians of Lebanon, as authoritatively expounded in this document, about their freedoms arid the destiny and place of their own country. “

Thank you Hakim

Saturday, August 19th, 2006

Hakim was simply great tonight, and even though his speech addresses points which are obvious to most of us LFers, he is the only politician, along with Jumblatt, to talk that deliberatly and freely about all issues and critisize in a constructive way and offer the proper solutions.

Summary of what he said :

- Hezbollah fighters did resist against Israel, but was Lebanon truly the winner ?
- We were against the agreement the government reached since it did not issue vital and complete decisions.
- The army should deploy and Hezbollah must disarm immediatly, there is no point in hiding weapons if you are not gonna use them.
- Hezbollah’s weapons are not a threat for anyone in Lebanon, but their presence is a heavy weight for the country and is inciting foreign powers to get involved here.
- The government should realize any mistake done in the South now will cost us very dearly and hold the government solely responsible.
- Our Youth are leaving because they dont believe in the cause Hezbolah is praising and are endangered here and cant do anything to change, not because they are cowards or cant defend
- Nasrallah should care about Lebanon’s interest, not his own and disarm regardless of the consequences.

The highlights of the interview were posted by a member in LF Forum.

Amidst a wave of a post war rush by some neighboring countries to score cheap points at the expense of the Lebanese sacrifices, we were entertained , a couple of days ago, by the Syrian president giving a speech in front of an audience of so called Arab journalists…

Forty five minutes of spaghetti rhetoric and pseudo logic connoted by blatant falsifications of history. If anything, the speech demonstrated the truth of a famous phrase said by Albert Einstein about the limits of the universe and the infinity of certain aspects of human behavior.

The first impression the viewer gets is that he is watching a show put up by a child apprentice magician who has picked up a couple of tricks and is performing in front of an audience of adults who are too keen not to show any signs of boredom and pretend to follow him so as not to deepen his personality complexes.

I couldn’t help but recall famous words said almost fourteen years ago by Dr Samir Geagea on the occasion of the LF Martyrs’ day:

And they position themselves as judges of history to prosecute the innocent and clear the enemy of all charges”…

I will not bore the reader by diving into an analysis of his speech as it would be more in the area of psychoanalysis than political study. However, it is my duty as a Lebanese citizen, to point out certain facts that Mr Assad seems to have omitted if not altogether forgotten in his frenzy.

I wish to remind his Excellency that:

  • It was through an Americano-Israeli green light that his father was permitted to enter Lebanon with his troops in 1976 with a mission of disarming and dismantling the Palestinian factions that were active on the Lebanese territory at the time. So who is more criminal in this case? A group of people defending their lands against terrorist organizations who are abusing them or a coutry that pretends to defend the Palestinian cause and is willing to sacrifice it in order to gain a foothold in a neighbouring country?
  • It was with an Israeli green light that his fighter planes were allowed, for the first time in nearly twenty years I must add, to fly over the Christian enclave and bombard it , thus opening the way for the Syrian troops to march in and occupy the land. Was this not a form of collaboration???
  • It is thanks to Israel that the Assad regime is still on the Syrian throne, when it was logical that USA would be targeting them after Saddam. Israel feared that toppling Assad could open the way for Islamic Fundamentalists to come to power and this might cause a reopening of the Golan Heights fronts, which by the way were kept quiet through an under the table deal between Israel and the Syrian regime ever since 1973. And yet, we are surprised to hear him accusing the 14th of MArch group of being Israeli products…
  • Mr Assad’s regime harbors or assists most of the terrorist in the region from Al Qaeda all the way to Hamas (who in an ironic way proclaim to be freedom fighters). They are very keen on exporting these messengers of hate, death and destruction to the entire world, more precisely the to the arab world that Mr. Assad claims to have so much love for, killing arab women and children, in order to bring it “Liberation”. Yet one finds it pretty strange that Syria being amongst the countries with the most land occupied by Israel has not lifted a finger to liberate those lands by itself.

Another thing to be said is that I find it quite ironic that Mr. Assad should be talking about resistance and handing out advices and theories about freedom and democracy when his regime is well known for brutally silencing anyone who dares approach these subjects.

The gist of this speech could be summarized by the following: Syria is doing all it can to break out of the isolation it has been cornered in ever since the assassination of PM Hariri in February 2005 and their forced exit from Lebanon. It wants desesperately to regain its old position as a key player in the region, and is even ready to settle for any lower role, because frankly speaking, this regime is built on under the table deals and shady interventions as well as living off the goods of another country such as Lebanon. Without such possibilities, the Syrian regime has no means to breath and would slowly be strangled to death. But I guess Mr. Assad got the reply of the international community through the words of the USA ambassador to the UN Mr. John Bolton who said about the speech: “Meaningless words”.

In conclusion I wish to say that I was very proud of the reactions that came from the Lebanese people and politicians from all the spectrum of the political rainbow in the country. These reactions are enough to make one proud of being a Lebanese in times like this.

Axe Effect

Hezbollah & Iranian deadline

Wednesday, August 16th, 2006

Day after day, the link between the war Hezbollah started and the Iranian Nuclear issue is becoming clearer. After having accepted to disarm and let the army redeploy, Hezbollah got orders from Iran to distract the international community and the Lebanese & Israeli government by refusing to disarm and starting to threaten political opponents in Lebanon and asking for guarantees.

Not only that , Hezbollah is rushing to reconstruct houses before the government so it can fortify its positions yet again and keep controlling the regions.

Iran is celebrating the victory more than Shiites in Lebanon are, with posters and festivities and speeches and a transport cost-free day for everyone.

I really urge Jumblatt, Geagea and other leaders to attack fiercly Hezbollah, Syria and Iran and if possible start preparing for a second 14th of March, one that ll remove all traces of Syrian and Iranian agents in Lebanon and pave the way for a strong united sovereign Lebanon.

Bashar el Assad … Fuck Yourself !

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

Well i have no problem addressing a post to a Lebanese leader, like i did yesterday to Hassan Nasrallah, but to have a Syrian telling us who s good and who s bad in Lebanon and to teach us what to do and talk using the term ‘us’ refering to Lebanon and Syria,
I only have 2 things to tell him,

As Jumblatt quoted : “Arnab Arnab bil Joulan, Assad assad bi Lebnen”

and finally to fuck himself one more time and leave us alone.

Cheers.

A Letter to General Michel Aoun

Monday, August 14th, 2006

Dear General Aoun,

Firstly, allow me to apologize for allowing myself, a simple citizen, to breach all the protocols and rules of etiquette and address you through this letter. But I figured you being the head of a democratic party, and after all democracy means the power of the people (demos = people, cratos = power), you would accept those lines with an open mind, and possibly give them some thought.

You might be asking yourself why a known Lebanese Forces supporter is writing you this letter, but then do you not represent seventy five percent of the Lebanese Christians? Are you not a candidate for the Lebanese presidency?

Like in any democratic country, I believe it is my right to ask the person who intends to represent me in front of the world, a few questions, to demand from him some clarifications.

As the father of two children, and as a person that aims to live in this country as a free man, free to invest and free to reap the fruits of my investment, I have many fears and I guess you are the best person to answer my fears as to the future of this country for the Lebanese and more specifically for the Christians.

I intend to voice, through those lines, my concerns, and they are many, General.

Clarifications and questions more specifically relating to your policies, your decisions, your goals, both short and long term, and finally your plans for this country.

Nasrallah… Fuck Off!

That should be the answer of every Lebanese to this asshole after tonight’s speech. Who does he think he is threatening everyone and telling us what to do?

He claims to have won over the Israelis, well he won, umma and his masters in Iran and Syria won, we all know that, but the Lebanese people lost and Lebanon lost, and we do not wanna see his face anymore.

You wanna teach us about resistance?? Go read some history and learn about the thousands of martyrs we gave away and the tons of armies we defeated on the ground with our heads up high, not hiding in holes and in civilian houses and threatening our own people.

You wanna rebuild houses? Thats easy to say after destroying them but how are you gonna revive the children who died? Do you have a secret katyousha that will bring them back to life?

On top of all that, you still claim that we need the resistance to protect ourselves? How did you protect us? How did you stop the air raids that destroyed our bridges? What if Israel just wants to destroy our country without invading it? How can you stop it from doing so?

You claim the government and the army must be strong before asking the resistance to disarm, but how can a goverment be strong if there is a militia threatening it with its weapons after every political decision it makes?

How can an army be strong if it cannot spread all over the Lebanese soil and must take advices from a guerilla on where to deploy and where not to?

How can Lebanon rise on its feet if a terrorist group is threatening its security all the time??

You end your speech asking for national unity, yet you threaten the government and the Lebanese polticians?? Is this what you think national unity and national dialogue??

Well I urge all politicians to answer you the same way you addressed them, and I will take the initiative by asking you to fuck off and go back and hide in your hole hiding and leave us alone.

I have already bought a champagne bottle for the day you will leave us all, Christians and Muslims in peace and rot in hell.

Hoping we ll have a new sequel of “Na3eeman ya Abbas” for you 7assoun this time.

Cheers
